This week, Dr. Kim is talking with Bret Iwan, the voice of Mickey Mouse! Bret Iwan has loved the legacy and story of Walt Disney for as long as he can remember, but never dreamt he would one day voice Walt's most iconic character, Mickey Mouse. Iwan decided to pursue his love of art at Ringling College of Art and Design. Shortly after, he moved to Kansas City, to begin a career at Hallmark Greeting Cards. After learning of auditions being held to understudy with the third voice of Mickey Mouse, Wayne Allwine, Iwan wasted no time submitting his high pitched performance. Since 2009, Iwan has been the official voice of Mickey Mouse, providing the famous falsetto for Disney theme parks around the world, video games, toys, promotional material, game shows, live shows, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse (2009-2016), Mickey and the Roadster Racers (2017-2019), Mickey's Mixed Up Adventures (2019), and Mickey Mouse Funhouse (2021) television series. When Iwan is not performing behind the microphone, he continues his passion for design, as well as wood working, restoration, and steam locomotive engineering. Since 2017, Iwan has worked as a steam mechanic, and engineer on several railroads, and is currently building his own steam locomotive, much like Walt Disney did. The opportunities presented by the role continue to surprise him, and he looks forward to “fillin' in for the boss” far into the future. Iwan resides in Los Angeles, California.

Russi Taylor and Wayne Allwine were the voices of Minnie Mouse and Mickey Mouse, respectively, beginning in 1977 for Wayne and 1986 for Russi. They voiced these iconic characters until they passed away, ten years ago for Wayne, and this year for Russi. They also found love with each other while voicing these romantically-linked cartoon characters, and got married themselves. Here is their story. Bret Iwan has been the official voice of Mickey Mouse for the last 10 years and is only the fourth voice actor in Mickey's lifetime to officially play the role (first was Walt Disney, then Jimmy MacDonald, then Wayne Allwine). Whether it's Disney on Ice, a new attraction in the Disney Parks, a video game, TV show or animated short, Bret is the one who gets to bring Mickey's voice to life. This week, Team Mousetalgia welcomes Disney historian and author Jeff Kurtti back to the show to help us celebrate Mickey Mouse's 89th birthday by sharing some stories about his good friend Wayne Allwine, who was the voice of Mickey Mouse for many years. Jeff talks about how Mickey Mouse's voice progressed through the years, and shares about how Wayne's connection with the character developed over time. Jeff also talks about the creation story of Mickey Mouse, and we discuss the legendary tale told over the generations, and see how it compares with the likely true history of the Mouse's genesis. Then, we share some of our experiences from the recent Mouse-con convention held in South San Francisco, and recount our first Mousetalgia Disneyland history slide show. Also: our favorite Disney animal moments, Tiny Tinsel checks in - and more.

This week we have the honour of chatting with Goofy himself! We are talking to Bill Farmer who has voiced Goofy and Pluto for the last 29 years! Farmer's very first voice over audition was for Goofy. When he auditioned for the voice, he studied the way the original actor Pinto Colvig performed as Goofy in the 1930s and 1940s cartoons. He studied the hilarious laugh and the distinctive "gawrsh". He inherited the voice of Goofy (as well as Pluto), around the same time Tony Anselmo inherited Donald Duck, and Wayne Allwine and Russi Taylor did likewise for Mickey and Minnie Mouse, respectively. Farmer also played Goofy in A Goofy Movie (1995), its sequel, An Extremely Goofy Movie (2000), the Kingdom Hearts series of video games, Goof Troop (1992), which centered around the character and his son, Mickey Mouse Works (1999), House of Mouse (2001), Mickey Mouse Clubhouse (2006). He originated the voice of Horace Horsecollar in Disney's version of The Prince and the Pauper and has played him ever since.[4][5] Farmer also performed additional voices on The New Adventures of Mighty Mouse (1987), and Astro Boy (2004). Other significant characters he has played include Yosemite Sam, Sylvester, and Foghorn Leghorn in the movie Space Jam (1996). He has also done several guest voices, both on TV, including The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy and in video games, including the Destroy All Humans! series, Namco's Tales of Symphonia, where he voiced Governor-General Dorr, in Square Enix's Kingdom Hearts series reprising the role of Goofy, Detective Date in the SEGA game Yakuza, Captain Wedgewood and Frill Lizard in Ty the Tasmanian Tiger, many voices on EverQuest II, Cletus Samson, Floyd Sanders, Jeff Meyers and Ryan LaRosa in the video game Dead Rising[6] and Sam and others in the cult classic adventure game Sam & Max Hit the Road. Farmer has also played Secret Squirrel on Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law, Stinkie in Casper: A Spirited Beginning and Casper Meets Wendy, Willie Bear in Horton Hears a Who! and Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck in Robot Chicken in both the animated series and its spin-off video game. He also voiced Gaston in one part of Beauty and the Beast, when Gaston eats eggs. As of 2014, he plays Doc, the leader of the title characters in Disney's animated television series The 7D.[5]
The crew discuss Disney's Diamond Celebration announcement, Disney's stellar earnings report, Star Wars, Marvel, Fresh Off the Boat, old school DCA, their favorite resort hotels, remember Wayne Allwine and more. This week we welcome Marissa Gordon, Glenn Whelan, and Ryan Wilson back to the show as we have a roundtable dining review of the new restaurant that just opened at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge Kidani Village, Sanaa. The Kidani Village is the newest DVC location to open in Walt Disney World and it's new full service dining experience, Sanaa, is a unique experience that you can't get at many other places around Walt Disney World. The food is a blend between African and Indian flavors and we were all able to try out this new restaurant during it's opening weekend. We'll talk about it's theming, the story behind the restaurant, what we liked about it, what we didn't and even about the new DVC portion of the Animal Kingdom Lodge. We also continue our Disney Feud series with a friendly round between Team Those Darn Cats and the Disney Dudes. In the news this week: The voice of Mickey Mouse, Wayne Allwine, passes away, more members only events are announced for D23, Star Wars Weekends gets ready for opening weekend with a brand new logo, some small additions and closures to Walt Disney World and much more. We'll add many more listeners to the AllAbouttheMouseketeer Roll Call and even feature an All About the Mouse exclusive listener review of a special Work in Progress screening of Disney's The Princess and the Frog. So sit back, relax, and enjoy the show.
