Scooby Doo 2 Monsters Unleashed Reaction • SCOOBY-DOO 2: MONSTERS UNLEASHED (2004) IS... After watching the James Gunn versions of Scooby-Doo (2002) & Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed, it's time for a totally different vibe—one of the most beloved, darker takes on Mystery Inc. ever: Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island! Greg Alba and Aaron Alexander dive into this cult classic from 1998, which redefined what a Scooby-Doo movie could be. Produced by Hanna-Barbera and Warner Bros. Animation, Zombie Island brings Fred, Daphne, Velma, Shaggy, and Scooby back together for a reunion that quickly turns into a spine-tingling supernatural mystery—this time, the monsters are real. We react to the darker animation style, gothic atmosphere, and surprisingly mature themes that took fans by storm. From the creepy New Orleans setting to the terrifying cat creatures, voodoo lore, and unforgettable twist with Simone and Lena, this film is a fan-favorite for a reason. We break down the story, voice cast (Billy West, Mary Kay Bergman, Frank Welker, B.J. Ward, Scott Innes), and how Zombie Island led the charge for a series of darker Scooby-Doo animated films. Plus: how it compares to James Gunn's live-action movies, what makes it so effective, and why it's still a go-to Halloween rewatch. ...You're a WINNER! Today, Matt, Todd, and Mike dive into 1986's animated Sci-Fi action slugfest: Transformers: The Movie, directed by Nelson Shin, and featuring an all-star voice cast: Orson Welles as Unicron Leonard Nimoy as Galvatron Judd Nelson as Rodimus Prime Robert Stack as Ultra Magnus And of course... Frank Welker as Megatron & Soundwave Peter Cullen as Optimus Prime & Ironhide Written by Ron Friedman, this movie brought us many unforgettable moments. If you know & love the movie, you already know where this is going. Talk to the right person, and mentioning this movie might just bring back some deep childhood trauma. If you don't know it yet, you're about to delve into one of the most effective and disturbing 'war films' an '80s child could watch—something akin to "We Were Soldiers" but, you know, with toys, set to some of the most rocking '80s glam you'll ever hear. We're talking about a bunch of toy-heroes getting systematically slaughtered, genocided, tortured, and dipped in acid... So grab your nearest action figure and jump in for a fantastic, fun-filled ride of family adventure. Transformers: The Movie is far more 'adult' than one would ever have expected, and the impactful death of some of the biggest stars is remembered forever. Many recall tearful theaters and leaving in shock. Maybe you were never a fan, and maybe the Michael Bay movies didn't help. But this is different—more akin to "Heavy Metal" than a Saturday afternoon with some trucks and lasers. Check this classic out! America doesn't make too many animated films quite like this, so it's no surprise that the Transformers' origins lie thousands of miles away in Japan. Till all are one... and as always, thank you for listening. Matt rolls out his favorites on Letterboxd and BlueSky @MovieMattSirois. Witness Matt dispense Quintesson justice on the black fog of despair that is $1-budget action nonsense at the Movie Asylum of the Weird, Bad and Wonderful. This month, we are joined with a special guest, Tim Ryan, the King of Janitors, for a watch of Michael Bay's Arthurian epic, Transformers: The Last Knight, in which Mark Wahlberg teams up with a hot Oxford don who is apparently the last descendent of Merlin, and a selection of Autobots, to take on a corrupted Optimus Prime, using Excalibur. This week Erin and Brennan visit the library to continue their trek of rewatching the films that gave them trauma as children. In "the Pagemaster" we run into Patrick Stewart, Whoopi Goldberg, and Frank Welker as Adventure, Fantasy, and Horror. Not to be confused with the sections they also represent. Let's be real, Erin is a book nerd and she loves this, apart from all the times she was scared in this film. We get solid Star Trek representation, cool lightning fairies, and acid martinis!! In the end, we find the EXIT and learn that we should love books more, duh. Get a library card, kids!

In the before times... before CGI... before Michael Bay gave us racist Transformers... before Pacific Rim... there was another giant 80s style robot beat-em-up movie that brought the Saturday Morning Cartoons of our youth to life! That movie is ROBOT JOX! Joining me to review this cult classic is a podcaster who's seen his fair share of 80s robots... Ozzie from The Frank Welker Wonder Hour. Go give them a follow and tell 'em Matt and Mark sent you. Ozzie and I discuss the film and praise its director, Stuart Gordon... but along the way, we also chat Charlie Band, the nostalgia of discovering movies on VHS, and what exactly in the fresh hell is going on in the many subplots of this movie when giant robots aren't beating the crap out of one another. The 1980s gave us an explosion of new cartoon shows. But with so many new shows and characters, someone had to voice them all. It was even better if you could have the same person perform multiple voices. If you don't know the name Frank Welker--but grew up in the 80s--you've definitely heard his voice. This is a look back on the incredible career of the man who was the voice of the 80s, and is in more TV shows and movies than you could even imagine... Bonus 1980s content: Patreon.com/80s

Katie and Bridget do NOT go swimming in the Amazon as they re-watch the iconic creature feature: Anaconda! It's a movie all about how Jon Voight ruins a documentary crew's good time... Oh and also there's a giant anaconda out there eating people. Sorry scratch that - there's at least TWO anacondas out there!? Come along as we follow the documentary film crew who really just should have said no to helping others. When their boat gets attacked by snakes, wasps, boars, anacondas, and Jon Voights, it's up to JLO, Ice Cube, and some guy who really just sleeps the entire time to save the day! While it may feel like you're on a Universal Studios theme park ride, this snake will in fact eat you and doesn't mind getting set on fire - seriously what are the physics with that!? Released in 1997, it stars some well-know actors including: Jennifer Lopez, Ice Cube, Jon Voight, Jonathan Hyde, Owen Wilson (wow!), Danny Trejo, and most importantly - Frank Welker who played the VOICE of the Anaconda!!! (???!?!?!?)!!

Animation is popular among Autistic children and adults alike. Listen in, as Matt Lowry, LPP gives his co-host Dr. Angela Lauria a delicious infodump on voice over actors featured on Futurama, Ren and Stimpy, Ghostbusters, Transformers, DragonballZ, Street Fighter, Rick & Morty, and more! Many famous voice actors are officially in Club ‘tism!Hyperconnected mirror neurons and echolalia often results in impressive skills at copying people's accents and movements which, along with bottom up processing, leads autistics to being great actors and replicators of all things.Specific voice actors like Corey Burton, Frank Welker, Billy West, and Kyle Hebert are highlighted as on the autism spectrum. Their prolific roles in cartoons and anime are mentioned. The community of voice actors is described as close-knit and supportive, which creates a neurodiversity-supportive environment that allows Autistic talents to thrive.“I think one of the big payoffs of having a special interest and having a monotropic focus and being able to really master an art. And there are a lot of autistic people in this space who have mastered the art of voiceovers and animation.” —AngelaThe podcast hosts discuss animators like Tim Burton, Jorge Gutierrez, and Genndy Tartakovsky are discussed as openly (or just likely) Autistic. Their singular focus aids in animation. Burton struggles working within the neurotypical Hollywood system while producing Autistic-coded films like Edward Scissorhands.“We are taught all the way through school that we need to sit down and be quiet and fit in. We are taught our entire lives that we need to fit in, but we spend the rest of our lives trying to stand out.” —MattOn this week's virtual culture trip, hosts emphasize the importance of special interests in finding Autistic community, even if not as a career. Shared interests like specific fandoms can lead to meeting fellow Autistics and forming authentic and nourishing relationships. The creative fields of voice acting, animation, and related passions are discussed as areas where Autistic traits are beneficial and abundantly represented within the culture.Do you love animation?
