We are going to talk about nukes since there is so much about a possible WW III in all the media.  President Ronald Reagan created the world's best nuclear deterrent capability in Strategic Air Command as he poured money into the military after years of neglect. The timeframe from when I showed up at the 509th Air Refueling Squadron in 1985 to 1990 when I left Pease as it was closing was a great time to be a KC-135 pilot at Portsmouth New Hampshire. I was flying an airplane I loved, doing a critical Air Force mission that was fun, and got to take a T-37 up whenever I could find another Copilot to go with me. It was a golden age of flying in my career. But still very dangerous as every third week I would go into an underground nuclear-hardened bunker and sit on Single Integrated Operations Plan or SIOP alert with six FB-111As carrying four nukes and five to six tankers to refuel them on their mission of Armaggedon. The SR-71 Blackbird was SAC's very special and very fast reconnaissance platform moving at over Mach 3+! The Okinawans called it Habu, after a poisonous snake on the island because it looked so much like the reptile. The fortress of Megiddo stood on a hill in the largest pass through the Carmel range, strategically guarding the Jezreel Valley. The city was situated on the Via Maris, the main highway between Egypt and Mesopotamia. Many armies used this route, and the site became known as a bloody battlefield. It was here, for instance, that Pharaoh Neco, on his way to fight the Assyrians, killed Josiah (2Ki 23:29). Armaggedon thus became a symbolic term epitomizing the final conflict between God and the forces of evil. (NLT Study Bible) 1. As the End draws near, call on the Name of the LORD. 2. When you are wavering, call on the Name of the LORD. “The Hebrew word translated waver means ‘to be lame’ or ‘to limp.’ Elijah compared the people's hobbling between the worship of the LORD and of Baal to a person who limps awkwardly from one foot to the other. Elijah may have also been referring to the ritual dance performed by Baal's prophets as they attempted to gain the storm god's attention. (NLT Study Bible) 1 Kings 18:26 (NLT) - [26] So they prepared one of the bulls and placed it on the altar. Then they called on the name of Baal from morning until noontime, shouting, "O Baal, answer us!" But there was no reply of any kind. Then they danced, hobbling around the altar they had made. “Elijah placed a clear choice before the people. He drew a sharp contrast between the worship of the Lord and that of Baal to eliminate the apostate idea that people could worship both deities.” (NIV Study Bible) 3. When your heart is divided, call on the Name of the LORD. Psalms 86:11 (NIV) - [11] Teach me your way, O LORD, and I will walk in your truth; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name. Ezekiel 11:17-19 (NIV) - [17] “Therefore say: ‘This is what the Sovereign LORD says: I will gather you from the nations and bring you back from the countries where you have been scattered, and I will give you back the land of Israel again.' [18] “They will return to it and remove all its vile images and detestable idols. [19] I will give them an undivided heart and put a new spirit in them; I will remove from them their heart of stone and give them a heart of flesh. James 1:5-8 (NIV) - [5] If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. [6] But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. I am the only one left, and now they are trying to kill me too.” [15] The LORD said to him… [18] “Yet I reserve seven thousand in Israel—all whose knees have not bowed down to Baal and all whose mouths have not kissed him.” 1 Kings 18:36-39 (NIV) - [36] At the time of sacrifice, the prophet Elijah stepped forward and prayed: “O LORD, God of Abraham, Isaac and Israel, let it be known today that you are God in Israel and that I am your servant and have done all these things at your command. [37] Answer me, O LORD, answer me, so these people will know that you, O LORD, are God, and that you are turning their hearts back again.” [38] Then the fire of the LORD fell and burned up the sacrifice, the wood, the stones and the soil, and also licked up the water in the trench. 53. De basis van de zegen die de heidenen zullen ontvangen is geloof, en niet verdienste. Het falen van Israël is daarom een waarschuwing: ook de heidenen kunnen worden afgebroken van deze plaats van zegen. (Niet als een verlies van het heil, maar als een verwijdering van de plaats van de zegen – zoals de kerken in Europa nu meemaken.)54. De profetie over de derde joodse tempel maakt duidelijk dat geheel Jeruzalem onder joodse controle moet vallen. Uiteindelijk zou Israël ook weer de controle krijgen over de Oude Stad van Jeruzalem die in 1949 verloren ging aan Jordanië; de zesdaagse-oorlog in 1967 heeft die profetie vervuld; uiteindelijk zal de joodse Tempel worden herbouwd.55. In de toekomst zal een Grote Verdrukking plaatsvinden voorafgaande aan de terugkeer van Christus. Twee elementen daarvan houden verband met de Israëlologie.a. De Grote Verdrukking brengt een wereldwijde prediking van het evangelie met zich mee. Dat is de prediking van de 144.000 joodse evangelisten uit de 12 stammen in Openbaring 7. Het resultaat van die prediking is de grote schare die niemand tellen kan.b. De Grote Verdrukking, die volgens Daniel 12 drie half jaar duurt, brengt uiteindelijk een nationale wedergeboorte tot stand waarin allen die zich verzetten tegen de Messias ten onder zullen gaan.56. In de Grote Verdrukking zullen er in Israël vele valse profeten zijn, een wereldwijd antisemitisme zal uitbreken, vele joden zullen Israël moeten ontvluchten, twee derde van de joodse bevolking zal sterven in de grootste vervolging van de joden ooit in de geschiedenis – Openbaring 12:1-17. De overgebleven een derde van Israël zal als geheel de Messias aannemen bij Zijn komst – “en zo zal geheel Israël behouden worden.”57. Op grond van de belijdenis van de nationale zonden van Israël – de verwerping van de Messias – en het gebed om het herstel van het volk en de terugkeer van de Messias, zal de Messias ook daadwerkelijk terugkeren. De gedeeltelijke en tijdelijke verharding van Israël zal dan worden weggenomen en de profetie van Zacharias 12 en 13 zal worden vervuld.58. Het uiteindelijke oordeel over de volkeren zal alle heidenen in twee groepen verdelen: de pro-semitische schapen en de anti-semitische bokken. De betekenis van de heidenen zal mede worden afgelezen aan hun betrokkenheid bij de misdaden tegen Israël: ten eerste, de verstrooiing van de joden in het midden van de Grote Verdrukking; ten tweede het verdelen van het land in de campagne van Armaggedon; en ten derde de slavernij die aan de joden wordt opgelegd volgens Zacharias 12. Dit is het oordeel waarover we lezen in Mattheus 25. De volkeren die handlanger zijn geworden van de antichrist in zijn project van de verwoesting van Israël, zullen op grond daarvan de eeuwige bestraffing ondergaan. (Mattheus 25:46)59. Het fundament van de wedergeboorte van Israël is het Nieuwe Verbond van Jeremia 31. Het is een heel ander verbond dan dat van de Sinaï.60. De geestelijke wedergeboorte van elke jood is de eerste uitwerking van het Nieuwe Verbond.De tweede uitwerking is de inzameling van alle joden vanuit de hele wereld op grond van het Land Verbond van Deuteronomium 29 tot en met 30. Ook het eeuwige en onvoorwaardelijke verbond van het land is verschillend van het tijdelijke en voorwaardelijke verbond van de Sinaï.61. Het bezit van het land zal uiteindelijk ook betekenen dat de volle omvang van het land aan Israël geschonken wordt en daarnaast dat dit land zo vruchtbaar zal zijn, dat het aan een buitengewoon groot Israël voldoende voedsel kan verschaffen.62. Ook het verbond met David zal hier letterlijk worden vervuld, namelijk het herstel van de troon van David. Een eeuwige dynastie, een eeuwige koninkrijk, een eeuwige troon en een eeuwige persoon op die troon waren deel van de belofte. In Christus komt deze belofte tot verwerkelijking.63. We spreken van de drie ambten van Christus: profeet, priester en koning. Bij Zijn eerste komst was Christus profeet. Na Zijn dood en opstanding is Christus priester, totdat Hij terugkeert. Pas in de toekomst zal Jezus werkelijk als Koning optreden, en dat vergt het herstel van de troon van David.64. Tot het ultieme herstel van Israël behoort het volgende: ze worden hersteld als een natie; ze zullen het centrum zijn van aandacht van de volkeren – vanwege de Thora; Israël zal heersen over de volkeren; gerechtigheid, heiligheid, vrede, veiligheid, vreugde en blijdschap zullen het volk kenmerken.65. Een hoge berg in Israël zal de plaats zijn van de Tempel van het 1000 jarig rijk. Daar zullen de offers worden gebracht volgens het door Ezechiël beschreven systeem, die alle terugverwijzen naar het uiteindelijke offer van Christus. Met andere woorden: deze offers zullen worden gedaan tot Zijn gedachtenis – zoals nu ook het avondmaal.67. In het 1000 jarig rijk zal een rivier uitgaan vanuit de Tempel waarvan de oostelijke tak naar de Dode Zee zal vloeien om die tot een zoetwater meer te maken, vol van leven. Ezechiël 47.68. In de toekomst zal Israël het geheel van het beloofde land in bezit nemen; inclusief het Jeruzalem van het 1000 jarig rijk, eveneens beschreven in Ezechiël 48.69. Ook in de eeuwige toestand na het 1000 jarig rijk, blijft er een onderscheid tussen de Gemeente en de gelovigen van het Oude Testament die nu door de rechtvaardiging door geloof en de dood van de Messias volmaakt geworden zijn.
