Their valuations were pushed to extreme lows during 2024, and now in 2025 these same countries are roaring back with enormous gains across their economy and stock markets. We discuss the specifica stocks that have seen big gains and also include some 'bonus countries' that may rally into the rest of 2025. We also talk about crypto markets, which seem to be waking up. Asha Mehta is Managing Partner and Chief Investment Officer at Global Delta Capital, where she has a thematic focus on Emerging and Frontier Markets as well as Sustainability Investing. She was previously Lead Portfolio Manager and Director of Responsible Investing at Acadian Asset Management and prior to that an investment banker.  She has traveled to over 80 countries and lived in six, and recently released a book, The Power of Capital: An Adventure Capitalist's Journey to a Sustainable Future. Our conversation starts with her upbringing and her parents' immigration story, and winds its way through Asha's college years and her early interest in biological sciences.  A setback to funding of a vaccine distribution project in India, led to her finding work experience in Microfinance, and there a belief in impact and the power of capital was born. Asha then takes on a world tour, first through an investor's lens - we hear about her travels around the world and the areas where technology is enabling leapfrogging of existing infrastructure and breakthroughs that improve living standards and ultimately create impact. We travel from Nigeria to Saudi Arabia, from Tunisia to Cambodia, and apply also the lens of sustainability, examining what meaningful ESG data looks like and how it can be used to fashion investment decisions. We spend some time speaking about Asha's book, The Power of Capital, which is written in the spirit of a true Adventure Capitalist, and the labor of love that that entailed.  Another labor of love was Asha's founding of her own firm Global Delta Capital, and we discuss the "adventure" of entrepreneurship and capital raising. “The ordinary traveler, who never goes off the beaten route and who on this beaten route is carried by others, without himself doing anything or risking anything, does not need to show much more initiative and intelligence than an express package." Welcome back to another episode of Made You Think! In this episode, we're discussing The River of Doubt by Candace Millard, a story that follows the expedition of Theodore Roosevelt as he explores the Amazon river in Brazil. Though faced with many hardships along the way, Roosevelt finds purpose in this monumental journey after losing the 1912 election. We cover a wide range of topics including: The explorer spirit and the drive to explore the unknown Theories of how long humans have been in the Americas How the crew was able to form relationships with uncontacted tribes The progression of travel methods in comparison to the early 1900s What were in the cards for Roosevelt and Rondon after they returned And much more. After losing the 1912 election, Roosevelt traveled to Brazil to explore the Amazon river, which was largely unknown at that time.  (4:17) The explorer spirit and the urge to explore something that people haven't seen before. While there's not much else for us to discover for the first time on earth, there are still many unique things to go see that only few have. (8:52) Roosevelt and the crew seemed to underestimate what they were getting into, and though underprepared, it ended up being an overall success.  (14:21) We talk a bit more about Rondon and his backstory, as well as what life looked like for him after the expedition. He had contact with tribes that were otherwise cut off from the rest of the world.  (18:26) The relationships with the tribes they came across and how the tribe leaders had to mutually agree before a course of action was taken on Roosevelt's crew. At the time, it was not known that the tribe they had contacted were cannabalists.  (22:37) There's a theory that the Amazon is man-made or at least man-influenced. While there's evidence of humans in the Amazon from at least 13,000 years ago, how long have humans really been in the Americas?  (27:50) Seafaring canoes and the possibility of natives reaching new land via canoe tens of thousands of years ago. It's also a mystery how many journeys have failed throughout time, as there is likely no record of their expedition at all. (31:29) The drive to explore is in our DNA. Do we feel that need for evolutionary purposes?  (37:40) We talk about the description of the surgery on Roosevelt's leg during the journey and the backstory behind it. (42:07) Sickness and the prevalence of malaria during the trip. We give some stats on the fatalities of malaria, and the lethality is less than we expected.  (44:19) Roosevelt brought his son, Kermit. Though Kermit didn't want to go, he went so he can watch out for his dad. Back in this time, going on a trip for months or even years meant you wouldn't have any contact with people back home for that whole span. (48:55) Stories of Roosevelt when he was visited by ambassadors in the White House, and other humorous presidential stories.  (52:32) There have been several amazing stories and documentaries describing the journies of different adventurists and mountain climbers. It goes to show just how important pacing yourself is and knowing how to pack the appropriate supplies.  (1:00:51) Why the crew hardly saw any wild life during their time in the Amazon. Though you're surrounded by them, they're extremely hidden. (1:05:58) Rondon's leadership along the way and how he managed to keep order, despite one of the crew members causing trouble.  (1:14:19) When we think about Roosevelt's journey and compare it to today, we see how far we've come. We can now reach the other side of the world at much quicker speeds and have the potential of seeing more growth in this area during our lifetime, too.  (1:19:53) Stay tuned for our next episode... A book mentioned many times over on ILAB throughout the years is "Adventure Capitalist" and we were finally able to speak to author Jim Rogers on this episode! Sam and Derek kick off the show both talking about the influence of the book and then jump into the interview. Sam interviews Jim where he touches on his experiences visiting nearly every country in the world, even ones at war during the time. Jim then speaks of his views on the current state of the economy, what markets you should be looking to invest in, the importance of history to the economy, and where he plans on traveling to next. Sam and Derek wrap up the show with travel experiences of their own and what they think about Jim's thoughts on the future, especially with regards to China.  Jim Rogers, a native of Demopolis, Alabama, is an author, financial commentator, adventurer, and successful international investor.  He has been frequently featured in Time, The Washington Post, The New York Times, Barron's, Forbes, Fortune, The Wall Street Journal, The Financial Times, The Business Times, The Straits Times and many media outlets worldwide.  He has also appeared as a regular commentator and columnist in various media and has been a professor at Columbia University. After attending Yale and Oxford University, Rogers co-founded the Quantum Fund, a global-investment partnership.  During the next 10 years, the portfolio gained 4200%, while the S&P rose less than 50%.  Rogers then decided to retire – at age 37.  Continuing to manage his own portfolio, Rogers kept busy serving as a full professor of finance at the Columbia University Graduate School of Business, and, in 1989 and 1990, as the moderator of WCBS's 'The Dreyfus Roundtable' and FNN's 'The Profit Motive with Jim Rogers'. In 1990-1992, Rogers fulfilled his lifelong dream: motorcycling 100,000 miles across six continents, a feat that landed him in the Guinness Book of World Records.  As a private investor, he constantly analyzed the countries through which he traveled for investment ideas.  He chronicled his one-of-a-kind journey in Investment Biker: On the Road with Jim Rogers.  Jim also embarked on a Millennium Adventure in 1999.  He traveled for 3 years on his round-the-world, Guinness World Record journey. It was his 3rd Guinness Record.  Passing through 116 countries, he covered more than 245,000 kilometers, which he recounted in his book Adventure Capitalist: The Ultimate Road Trip.  His book, Hot Commodities: How Anyone Can Invest Profitably In The World's Best Market, was published in 2004.  Another of his books A Bull in China describes his experiences in China as well as the changes and opportunities there. His recent book A Gift to My Children is a heartfelt, indispensable guide for his daughters (as well as for all adults and children) to find success and happiness. His latest memoir Street Smarts: Adventures on the Road and in the Markets was published in February 2013. Recently in January 2018, his book A Gift to My Children, 2nd edition which was published in Chinese, was launched in China. And in October 2018, another of his book The Next Big Wave, published in Complex Chinese, was launched in Taiwan. Rogers had two number one bestsellers in Japan namely The Future of Japan and A Warning to Japan that were published in January and July 2019 respectively. This was one of our favourite episodes and felt the advice Derek offered on the show was some of the most powerful. He's a lovely guy and has a great perspective on life, business and friendships. We cover how he's been able to set up multiple successful revenue streams and how his friends have been very successful in the ventures that they do. This guy is great - you can find him at wanderingearl.comSend more feedback and questions to adcapspodcast@gmail.com - we answer every email we get (just like wandering earl)thanks again to Derek for joining us, this is what being an Adventure Capitalist is all about. We're brought to you by onthejobmarketing.comIf you're a tradesperson, you need a website and marketing to get more customers. In this episode Luke and I discuss our favourite entrepreneurial books from the last ten years of educating ourselves each in the space. We heavily caveat this episode to say that if you really want to start a business, don't bother reading all or any of these books - better to start actually doing business and get better at that rather than reading the rule book inside and out before getting started. If you are interested in finding out our favourite picks and a summary of what makes them great then this is a good episode for you. If you're too busy and just want the list now, then here it is: 1. Shoe Dog - Phil Knight - The best solo entrepreneur book and a bit of the inspiration behind the title of this podcast, as Phil Knight pretty much embodies the best aspects of an Adventure Capitalist. Top book, more like a movie than an educational book. 2. The Snowball - Warren Buffet. Biography of Warren Buffets journey from selling coke and pepsi tops to buying out companies and stripping out their assets and making the last few bucks having fired the entire workforce. That little guy has got some pretty ruthless stories in the vault, but also tells you how you could see business as a functional capital creating machine rather than people's livelihoods. He's currently the 4th richest person on earth so it's packed with value, he's also very straightforward in his advice in general. If you want to learn the fundamentals of value investing this is a good read. 3. The Personal MBA - Josh Kaufman. This is like a cheat sheet for an entire MBA course, good set of theory and principals for business. Very academic and a little bit dry but Alex read this back to back and got a lot of value from it. 4. Atomic Habits - James Clear. How can you build new productive habits and break bad ones. Worth a read and could spell the difference between building a future you want and shrugging off elements of your personality you'd rather not live with. 5. Critical Business Skills for Success: the Great Courses. (Audible) This is a 36 hour long lecture series and covers everything from Marketing, Strategy, Operations, Finance and Accounting for people wanting to learn the full suite of what it takes to run a business. Honestly, Alex listened to most of this as he was driving to and from work, in hindsight he should have been taking action at this point and not just theorising all day long. (his words)6. 4 Hour Work Week - Tim Ferris. It's a classic, if you haven't read this it's worth a quick read. All about how outsourcing can build the fundamentals for a life without work. He's the ultimate work-life balance guru and it's inspiring stuff. 7. 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. An old one with some still very relevant and good advice. Enjoy. We're brought to you by onthejobmarketing.comIf you're a tradesperson, you need a website and marketing to get more customers. On this, the epic 27th entry in the odyssey of the Home Row podcast we welcome Alpacapatrol, our esteemed guest and nobleman. Slow news week – but that won’t stop KOJIMA KORNER!! The DICE Summit will feature talks from Kojima and Guillermo Del Toro about the creative process as well as Gearbox Software’s Randy Pitchford – check out some of the cool past talks from what is basically TED talks for games here (there’s one with JJ Abrams and Gabe Newell!) : http://www.dicesummit.org/ Brian went to PAX South – which was awesome and saw a TON of great games. Gushing about games like Umbrella Corps, Street Fighter V, Moving Hazard, Dead Star, Ultimate Chicken Horse, Stories: Path of Destinies, Marble Mountain, Enter the Gungeon and Omnibus. We learned there’s a thriving and passionate bus simulator community, Re/Core developers are hard at work on a really cool space game in the interim, and SF:V has some incredible artwork.Brian also got to try the HTC Vive with the aforementioned Marble Mountain, and this spawned a chat about VR yet again, which Alpacapatrol had some unique observations on what could happen that we’ve not heard before, while Doxy and Joe are still hype – Brian is showing his first signs of apprehension, or perhaps major bummage that VR might be a bit price prohibitive.Alpacapatrol has been playing Darkest Dungeon in the not-so-patient wait for XCOM 2. We found out that Alpacapatrol has about the same gripes that Brian did, finding a few things a little annoying, but realizing the game is overall very solid. He’s also been on some Adventure Capitalist as mobile fix for the time being. Doxy has been all over Might and Magic III – and everyone agrees it is awesome. While she wants more time, and finds it a bit brutal, it’s awesome and she can’t wait to get more going.Joe gushes about The Division after admitting he has a Battlefield and Halo problem again. The Division is shaping up to be something great after Joe got about 20-ish hours on two different platforms and is utterly impressed. Also impressive is that Joe went all tactical speak just like the stupid Ubisoft videos from the past few years. Alpacapatrol - www.twitch.tv/alpacapatrol / http://www.youtube.com/alpacapatrol

Kerry and the Swearbear join Ben in an attempt to review AdVenture Capitalist (http://store.steampowered.com/app/346900). The gang struggle to find much to say and find themselves on many a tangent while discussing this very simplistic title that the Swearbear chose. Will Reversion have met its match? Will Diddly have chosen wisely this time? Will Kerry's American optimism carry the miserable Brits through? I guess we'll never know.... well unless we listen.

Tommy and Tyler discuss idle games, like AdVenture Capitalist and Time Clickers, along with Until Dawn and a few other games.  It's actually kind of a "lost" episode, because Tyler thought he had released it, but it was found "in the vault" after the recording of episode 227. The official MGP re-launch is finally here!We celebrate by inviting Patreon sponsor and long-time community member Paul (@PAB1986 on Twitter) to takeover the show for the week. Which is just as well, because he's the only one of the four of us who made it along to EGX Rezzed in London last weekend.Meanwhile Steve keeps himself occupied in the corner with a new Final Fantasy game (Type-0), Kev is trying to master cheesy voiceovers and Anna has a cold so doesn't really say much. But she has played Episode Two of Tales From The Borderlands. In amongst all of that, we also discuss 8-Bit Doves, Cities Skylines, AdVenture Capitalist, Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris, New Retro Arcade and lots more...You can follow the show on Twitter @mgukpodcast, find us at Facebook.com/MatureGamerPodcast, email us mgp@geekcultureradio.com or check out our forum at geekcultureradio.com/forum.
