I sit down once again with Francis Weller to explore the cultural collapse we are living through and what it means to navigate "the long dark". We delve into how modern individualism and market-driven growth strip us of primary soul satisfactions, leaving us increasingly abstracted from nature, community, and our own inner lives. Francis shares profound insights on reframing grief, defeat, and vulnerability, offering a path to move beyond chronic self-obsession and return to true reciprocity with the living world.SHOW HIGHLIGHTS00:00:00 - 11 Years of ManTalks and Welcoming Back Francis Weller00:01:02 - Cultural Collapse and Navigating "The Long Dark"00:05:07 - Living Culture vs. Disparate Society00:08:00 - Individualism, Capitalism, and Primary Satisfactions00:15:04 - The Illusion of Constant Growth and Systemic Deficit00:17:56 - Artificial Intelligence and the Abstraction of Human Life00:26:28 - Original Instructions: Reciprocity with the Living World00:32:00 - "Wetiko" and the Psychological Toll of Disconnection00:36:08 - Understanding Soul as Depth, Vulnerability, and Terrain00:44:00 - Moving Beyond the Hero Myth to Embrace Defeat00:50:43 - Transforming Shame: From Contempt to Compassion00:59:39 - Re-encountering Otherness and Reclaiming Wild Soul Life01:02:40 - Closing Thoughts and Where to Find Francis Weller***Tired of feeling like you're never enough? 2017 års Game of the Year.

Francis Weller (psychotherapist, bestselling author + “soul activist”) believes we have entered a “Long Dark”, a multi-decade (century?) period of collapse and psychological pain that will demand we learn to grieve deeply, messily, fully. In this episode, I ask Francis whether grief is the missing piece of the impasse we're at. If we finally drop into our grief, will we wake up, will we finally let ourselves move into a new way of being that ditches the destructive soul-sucking paradigms, and prioritises our aliveness? Because that's what I think we all know we're aching for.Francis has worked for more than four decades, bringing together psychology, anthropology, mythology, alchemy, indigenous cultures and poetic traditions to educate communities on how to metabolise loss and grief. He's also written a bunch of books, including The Wild Edge of Sorrow, which Anderson Cooper repeatedly raves about. As he is famous for saying, “The work of the mature person is to carry grief in one hand and gratitude in the other and to be stretched large by them.”SHOW NOTESYou might also enjoy one of my all-time favourite episodes, this one with James Hollis: The Jungian take on 2021I really loved this chat with death walker Stephen Jenkinson, too. New Workshop! Feel More Regulated In Your Relationship For folks who sometimes feel crazy or dysregulated in our relationships. April 17th, 2026 —> Get on the waitlist. Emily got into therapy at age 27 when everything on the outside was looking good, but she was feeling miserable. Her therapist welcomed her big emotions and tears, and a new path opened up. She realized that she wanted to be a therapist herself. She also wrote her first poem, and tapped into a way of healing that she still engages in decades later. In our conversation today, you'll hear about how she used poetry and other things to heal depression, misery and other constraints. Emily G Barrett is a queer radical mystic poet and psychologist tossing seeds in the Long Dark*. She is in love with grief, healing and embodiment and wants to live in the culture created through them. For maintenance, her life requires deep crying and dancing at least every few days, often at the same time. I know her as an Internal Family Systems therapist colleague. I love the way she thinks and expresses herself, so wasn't surprised to find out she's a poet. We first met when we were both in The Free Joy Experience hosted by Thea Monyee and Ebony Janice Moore. *thank you, Francis Weller for this language Here's some of what we talked about: Getting into therapy at age 27 and a whole new path opening up (including a career as a therapist!) Working through a crisis of her sister's and the line between codependency and loving support Writing that first poem that described depression "some days are like ice" and bringing it to therapy Writing a manifesto / poem for living her life Starting SSRIs and experiencing profound difference in the way she feels about time Engaging in Authentic Movement How her poems describe and deepen her dreams Show notes at https://anniezam.com/podcast/257
This week on Critical Arcade, Dave and Nick bundle up, strike a match, and step into the frozen wilderness of The Long Dark. After a mysterious plane crash leaves them stranded in the Canadian wilds, survival becomes the only goal—and nature isn't playing fair. With no zombies, no monsters, and no one coming to help, it's just man versus the cold. Managing hunger, fatigue, and freezing temperatures, every decision matters as they scavenge, hunt, and try not to become wolf food. What starts as a simple search for answers quickly turns into a tense, methodical fight to stay alive. But here's the twist—despite scoring it a C+, this game completely hooked them. Is The Long Dark proof that immersion matters more than individual parts? Or are Dave and Nick just one bad blizzard away from losing their minds?Light the fire… if you still can. Hosted on Acast. Ep. 211 (Part 1 of 2) | Zaya and Maurizio Benazzo are not only the founders of the longstanding and highly regarded Science & Nonduality Conference (SAND), but also brilliant filmmakers, producing stunning documentaries about the injustice and suffering occurring in Palestine and elsewhere, as well as films that feature the eternal wisdom of elders from Indigenous communities around the world. Zaya and Maurizio are clearly passionate about their work, and co-host Roger Walsh points out they do a beautiful job of intertwining the personal, professional, and spiritual into an offering that meets the needs of our time. As Maurizio says, “There is no spiritual work. Period. Everything is spiritual work! It's life.”In Part 1 of this episode, lively and inspired, Zaya and Maurizio share what they've learned about life, spirituality, trauma, healing, guidance, and the deep-time perspective of the Maori. They relate the trajectory of SAND's evolution from featuring male-dominated nondual teachings to include an understanding of trauma, somatic healing, feminine, earth-oriented teachings, and Indigenous wisdom. “Healing never ends; it's a lifelong journey—there's no modern solution that will ‘fix' you,” Zaya tells us. Also, “We are constantly being guided if we just listen.”In Part 2, Zaya and Maurizio describe the making of their 2021 documentary about the tragic mistreatment of Palestinians in the West Bank, a beautiful, heartbreaking film called Where Olive Trees Weep. Also their film The Eternal Song, an ongoing project to bring forth Indigenous teachings, so valuable and timely for us now in our chaotic, disconnected world. This whole conversation is thought provoking, delightful, profound, paradigm shifting, and inspiring all at once. On September 24, 2025, I celebrated ten years of continuous sobriety from all mind-altering substances. A full decade. In this episode, I reflect on that journey—alongside the grief, uncertainty, and overwhelm so many of us are navigating right now. From global instability to personal heartbreak, we're living through what therapist and writer Francis Weller calls “the Long Dark.” I share insights from his newest book, In the Absence of the Ordinay, and explore what it means to drop into the underworld with presence, not panic—to become immense and remember the ancient rhythms of soul. You'll hear reflections on: – Deep listening as a practice and spiritual tool – Collective grief and the disorientation of our times – Listening without fixing – Conversations across political and emotional divides – Tending to your soul through ritual, stillness, and creativity I also announce the opening of enrollment for Autumn's Wise Circle—my 5-week small group series beginning October 28. All the details are on my website.

Francis Weller has spent his life restoring the sacred work of grief and deepening our connection to the soul. A psychotherapist, writer, and soul activist, Francis weaves together psychology, mythology, alchemy, and indigenous wisdom to show us how grief is not just personal but profoundly communal. His bestselling book, The Wild Edge of Sorrow, has guided thousands in embracing loss as a path to renewal. Through his organization, WisdomBridge, and his work with the Commonweal Cancer Help Program, Francis helps others navigate sorrow with ritual, story, and deep remembrance. In this conversation, we explore how grief can serve as an initiation into a richer, more connected life—and why reclaiming lost rituals of mourning is essential to healing both ourselves and the world. For more information about Francis visit: https://www.francisweller.net/ For more information on the MythMaker Podcast Network and Joseph Campbell, visit JCF.org. After a disastrous showing in 2023, Geoff Keighley and his team put together arguably their best show for the 10th anniversary of The Game Awards! While not perfect, major issues with pacing, presenters, and speech time seemed to be ironed out. It also doesn't hurt that the show was chockful of insane announcements. Of course, we get into The Black Rock who is delivering not just one, but two massive RPGs in a single year thanks to The Outer Worlds 2, but also a staggering list of other games. An Okami sequel is real as is Naughty Dog's new sci-fi IP. Onimusha is back as is a new IP for Yakuza developer, RGG. They're not just working on Project Century at RGG, but also reviving Virtua Fighter. Borderlands 4 and Mafia: The Old Country, massive showing in their own right, end up as footnotes due to the seismic amount of announcements packed into this show. The list goes on much longer than that, but we'll leave you a little something to listen to now. Enjoy! Please keep in mind that our timestamps are approximate, and will often be slightly off due to dynamic ad placement. 0:00:00 - Intro 0:43:25 - What We're Playing 1:17:26 - General thoughts on The Game Awards 1:28:51 - Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound 1:31:39 - Thick As Thieves 1:32:38 - Shadow Labryrinth 1:33:48 - Steel Paws 1:38:14 - Rematch 1:41:16 - Solasta 2 1:44:38 - The Witcher 4 1:50:00 - Elden Ring Nightrein 1:54:20 - Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth goes to PC 1:55:22 - Untitled Project from Ico, Shadow Of Colossus, Last Guardian devs 1:57:11 - The Outer Worlds 2 2:12:25 - Split Fiction 2:14:36 - Killing Floor 3 2:15:30 - The Long Dark 2 2:16:38 - Borderlands 4 2:23:42 - Clive Rosfield to Tekken 8 2:26:29 - Splitgate 2 2:26:49 - Virtua Fighter announcement 2:29:04 - Project Century by RGG 2:31:38 - Turok Origins 2:32:54 - Helldivers 2 2:33:14 - Warframe 1999 2:34:04 - Palworld Feybreak 2:36:11 - Onimusha Way Of The Sword 2:38:05 - The First Berserker 2:39:54 - Arad: Dungeon & Fighter 2:43:15 - Dying Light: The Beast 2:45:55 - Fortnite Ballistic 2:46:25 - Squid Game Unleashed 2:48:47 - Stage Fright 2:49:37 - Game Of Thrones Kingsroad 2:52:29 - Double Dragon Revive 2:54:21 - The Last Of Us 2 on PC 2:54:43 - Den Of Wolves 2:56:04 - Sonic Racing Crossworld 2:58:04 - Mafia: The Old Country 3:00:45 - Dispatch 3:02:48 - Okami Sequel announced by Capcom and Hideki Kamiya 3:05:48 - Crimson Desert 3:08:24 - Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet Learn more about your ad choices. Francis Weller is a psychotherapist, writer, and expert on grief, blending depth psychology with ancient wisdom. Known for his book The Wild Edge of Sorrow, Weller emphasizes the importance of community, ritual, and nature in healing. His work advocates for embracing grief as a vital part of life, and so he has dedicated a lot of time to guide grief rituals amongst diverse communities. If we can't acknowledge the descent and the depths, how are we going to walk into this time that is upon us? In this episode we explore the profound importance of acknowledging and embracing the darker side of our life as individuals and as civilization. Francis discusses how our culture's focus on ascension and progress often neglects the necessary and transformative experience of descent. He emphasizes that true healing and connection arise from engaging with the depths of our emotions, particularly with grief, and so, communal rituals are fundamental to deepen our relationship with life in all its levels and flavors.

Kolmandal Eesti mängude kuu nädalal on külas Karel Airapetjan, kes väikese tiimiga teeb juba veidi kuulsust kogunud mängu Digested, kus mängija peab põgenema Aegna saarel teda jahtiva hiigelmao eest. Ka on mõned uudised suhteliselt otse seotud külalise teemadega - The Long Dark lisab mängijat jälitava kolli ja üks Eesti mäng läheb lõpuks kinni. Ja EA reklaamilubadusi ja kõlakaid Red Dead'i PC versioonist oleme kuulnud juba aastaid. Rein tegi mõneks ajaks World of Warcraft Classicuga lõpparve ja Rainer on mänginud You Are Peter Shortsi, Indikat ja räägib, kuidas üks retromäng on ta elu muutnud. Soovitusi on mitmeid: Epicus tasuta Dragon Age Inquisition, Steamis Marathon Classic ja ka Reinu mäng on Steamis alla hinnatud!
