Well, the fundraising for Clyde's appeal does not seem to be going very well. Mama Griffiths has vowed to raise the necessary cash to free her boy from the jaws of death. We are starting to learn a lot more about what OpenAI's rogue super-model/agent did last week when it broke out of its testbed, hacked onto the Internet, invaded Hugging Face's databases, and exploited its way to solving the prompt-challenge it was presented with, "... to use a complex attack vector to see if it could exploit a computer system." Apparently, it can. Along the way, OpenAI's model made dozens of different decisions and exploited several other networks as it moved to complete the goal it was given. Meanwhile, Anthropic's Mythos has found critical vulnerabilities in HAWK, a cryptography algorithm that was thought to be a quantum-resistant. It's important to note, Mythos didn't break HAWK, it just found ways to make breaking the algorithm simpler. While the feat does negate the value of the algorithm, it does not mean Mythos is capable of actually decrypting it. Yet.Open AI is revealing its vision of the future of computing with its line of external devices to communicate with the ChatGPT all the time. Imagine a broach, much like the StarTrek communicator badge, that hooks you into an AgenticNet that knows your needs and facilitates a lot of your life for you. Open AI is certainly imagining that sort of future. As it turns out, that dump of Claude user conversations available through Google were there because Anthropic made a basic SEO error and didn't properly protect sensitive files from crawlers. Jim and Kristine have fun breaking down how they could have dealt it.There is much much more in a fast paced episode. We move from Google Play's interesting privacy proposals to Elon Musk's Xmoney system to dealing with Ghost-Citations. This was a fun show that tries so hard to cut past the hype and just talk about advanced levels of weirdness like adults.Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Northwest Bible Church - July 26, 2026 - Isaiah - Daniel Deeds Isaiah 61:1-4 The Myth of an Indifferent God Isaiah 61:1 The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me, Because the LORD has anointed me To bring good news to the afflicted; He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to captives And freedom to prisoners; 2 To proclaim the favorable year of the LORD And the day of vengeance of our God; To comfort all who mourn, 3 To grant those who mourn in Zion, Giving them a garland instead of ashes, The oil of gladness instead of mourning, The mantle of praise instead of a spirit of fainting. So they will be called oaks of righteousness, The planting of the LORD, that He may be glorified. John 16:1 "These things I have spoken to you so that you may be kept from stumbling. 2 "They will make you outcasts from the synagogue, but an hour is coming for everyone who kills you to think that he is offering service to God. 3 "These things they will do because they have not known the Father or Me. 4 "But these things I have spoken to you, so that when their hour comes, you may remember that I told you of them. These things I did not say to you at the beginning, because I was with you. John 16:33 "These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world.” John 16:16 "A little while, and you will no longer see Me; and again a little while, and you will see Me.” 17 Some of His disciples then said to one another, "What is this thing He is telling us, 'A little while, and you will not see Me; and again a little while, and you will see Me'; and, 'because I go to the Father'?" 18 So they were saying, "What is this that He says, 'A little while'? We do not know what He is talking about." 19 Jesus knew that they wished to question Him, and He said to them, "Are you deliberating together about this, that I said, 'A little while, and you will not see Me, and again a little while, and you will see Me'? 20 "Truly, truly, I say to you, that you will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice; you will grieve, but your grief will be turned into joy. 21 "Whenever a woman is in labor she has pain, because her hour has come; but when she gives birth to the child, she no longer remembers the anguish because of the joy that a child has been born into the world. 22 "Therefore you too have grief now; but I will see you again, and your heart will rejoice, and no one will take your joy away from you. Isaiah 40:1 "Comfort, O comfort My people," says your God. 2 "Speak kindly to Jerusalem; And call out to her, that her warfare has ended, That her iniquity has been removed, That she has received of the LORD'S hand Double for all her sins." … 9 Get yourself up on a high mountain, O Zion, bearer of good news, Lift up your voice mightily, O Jerusalem, bearer of good news; Lift it up, do not fear. Say to the cities of Judah, "Here is your God!" 10 Behold, the Lord GOD will come with might, With His arm ruling for Him. Behold, His reward is with Him And His recompense before Him. 11 Like a shepherd He will tend His flock, In His arm He will gather the lambs And carry them in His bosom; He will gently lead the nursing ewes. 12 Who has measured the waters in the hollow of His hand, And marked off the heavens by the span, And calculated the dust of the earth by the measure, And weighed the mountains in a balance And the hills in a pair of scales? 13 Who has directed the Spirit of the LORD, Or as His counselor has informed Him? 14 With whom did He consult and who gave Him understanding? And who taught Him in the path of justice and taught Him knowledge And informed Him of the way of understanding? 15 Behold, the nations are like a drop from a bucket, And are regarded as a speck of dust on the scales; Behold, He lifts up the islands like fine dust. 16 Even Lebanon is not enough to burn, Nor its beasts enough for a burnt offering. 17 All the nations are as nothing before Him, They are regarded by Him as less than nothing and meaningless. 18 To whom then will you liken God? Or what likeness will you compare with Him? 19 As for the idol, a craftsman casts it, A goldsmith plates it with gold, And a silversmith fashions chains of silver. 20 He who is too impoverished for such an offering Selects a tree that does not rot; He seeks out for himself a skillful craftsman To prepare an idol that will not totter. 21 Do you not know? Have you not heard? Has it not been declared to you from the beginning? Have you not understood from the foundations of the earth? 22 It is He who sits above the circle of the earth, And its inhabitants are like grasshoppers, Who stretches out the heavens like a curtain And spreads them out like a tent to dwell in. 23 He it is who reduces rulers to nothing, Who makes the judges of the earth meaningless. 24 Scarcely have they been planted, Scarcely have they been sown, Scarcely has their stock taken root in the earth, But He merely blows on them, and they wither, And the storm carries them away like stubble. 25 "To whom then will you liken Me That I would be his equal?" says the Holy One. 26 Lift up your eyes on high And see who has created these stars, The One who leads forth their host by number, He calls them all by name; Because of the greatness of His might and the strength of His power, Not one of them is missing. 27 Why do you say, O Jacob, and assert, O Israel, "My way is hidden from the LORD, And the justice due me escapes the notice of my God"? 28 Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth Does not become weary or tired. His understanding is inscrutable. 29 He gives strength to the weary, And to him who lacks might He increases power. 30 Though youths grow weary and tired, And vigorous young men stumble badly, 31 Yet those who wait for the LORD Will gain new strength; They will mount up with wings like eagles, They will run and not get tired, They will walk and not become weary. Hebrews 12:5 and you have forgotten the exhortation which is addressed to you as sons, "My son, do not regard lightly the discipline of the LORD, nor faint when you are reproved by Him. 6 for those whom the LORD loves He disciplines, and He scourges every son whom He receives." Hebrews 12:11 All discipline for the moment seems not to be joyful, but sorrowful; yet to those who have been trained by it, afterwards it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness. 1Peter 4:12 Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal among you, which comes upon you for your testing, as though some strange thing were happening to you; 13 but to the degree that you share the sufferings of Christ, keep on rejoicing, so that also at the revelation of His glory you may rejoice with exultation. Psalm 37:1 Do not fret because of evildoers, Be not envious toward wrongdoers. 2 For they will wither quickly like the grass And fade like the green herb. 3 Trust in the LORD and do good; Dwell in the land and cultivate faithfulness. 4 Delight yourself in the LORD; And He will give you the desires of your heart. 5 Commit your way to the LORD, Trust also in Him, and He will do it. 6 He will bring forth your righteousness as the light And your judgment as the noonday. 7 Rest in the LORD and wait patiently for Him; Do not fret because of him who prospers in his way, Because of the man who carries out wicked schemes. 8 Cease from anger and forsake wrath; Do not fret; it leads only to evildoing. 9 For evildoers will be cut off, But those who wait for the LORD, they will inherit the land. 10 Yet a little while and the wicked man will be no more; And you will look carefully for his place and he will not be there. 11 But the humble will inherit the land And will delight themselves in abundant prosperity. 12 The wicked plots against the righteous And gnashes at him with his teeth. 13 The Lord laughs at him, For He sees his day is coming. 14 The wicked have drawn the sword and bent their bow To cast down the afflicted an d the needy, To slay those who are upright in conduct. 15 Their sword will enter their own heart, And their bows will be broken. … 34 Wait for the LORD and keep His way, And He will exalt you to inherit the land; When the wicked are cut off, you will see it. 35 I have seen a wicked, violent man Spreading himself like a luxuriant tree in its native soil. 36 Then he passed away, and lo, he was no more; I sought for him, but he could not be found. Ps 94:1 O LORD, God of vengeance, God of vengeance, shine forth! 2 Rise up, O Judge of the earth, Render recompense to the proud. 3 How long shall the wicked, O LORD, How long shall the wicked exult? 4 They pour forth words, they speak arrogantly; All who do wickedness vaunt themselves. 5 They crush Your people, O LORD, And afflict Your heritage. 6 They slay the widow and the stranger And murder the orphans. 7 They have said, "The LORD does not see, Nor does the God of Jacob pay heed.” 8 Pay heed, you senseless among the people; And when will you understand, stupid ones? 9 He who planted the ear, does He not hear? He who formed the eye, does He not see? Proverbs 1:32 For the aimless wandering of the thoughtless will kill them, and the smug overconfidence of fools will destroy them; Isaiah 54:9 "For this is like the days of Noah to Me, When I swore that the waters of Noah Would not flood the earth again; So I have sworn that I will not be angry with you Nor will I rebuke you. 10 "For the mountains may be removed and the hills may shake, But My lovingkindness will not be removed from you, And My covenant of peace will not be shaken,” Says the LORD who has compassion on you. Isaiah 54:11 "O afflicted one, storm-tossed, and not comforted, Behold, I will set your stones in antimony, And your foundations I will lay in sapphires. 12 "Moreover, I will make your battlements of rubies, And your gates of crystal, And your entire wall of precious stones. 13 "All your sons will be taught of the LORD; And the well-being of your sons will be great. 14 "In righteousness you will be established; You will be far from oppression, for you will not fear; And from terror, for it will not come near you. 15 "If anyone fiercely assails you it will not be from Me. Whoever assails you will fall because of you. 16 “Behold, I Myself have created the smith who blows the fire of coals And brings out a weapon for its work; And I have created the destroyer to ruin. 17 "No weapon that is formed against you will prosper; And every tongue that accuses you in judgment you will condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, And their vindication is from Me," declares the LORD. Isaiah 49:14 But Zion said, "The LORD has forsaken me, And the Lord has forgotten me.” 15 "Can a woman forget her nursing child And have no compassion on the son of her womb? Even these may forget, but I will not forget you. 16 "Behold, I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands; Your walls are continually before Me. Isaiah 41:8 "But you, Israel, My servant, Jacob whom I have chosen, Descendant of Abraham My friend, 9 You whom I have taken from the ends of the earth, And called from its remotest parts And said to you, 'You are My servant, I have chosen you and not rejected you. 10 'Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, Surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.' 11 "Behold, all those who are angered at you will be shamed and dishonored; Those who contend with you will be as nothing and will perish. 1 2 " Yo u w i l l s e e k t h o s e w h o q u a r r e l w i t h y o u , b u t w i l l not find them, Those who war with you will be as nothing and non-existent. 13 "For I am the LORD your God, who upholds your right hand, Who says to you, 'Do not fear, I will help you.' 14 "Do not fear, you worm Jacob, you men of Israel; I will help you, declares the LORD, "and your Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel. 15 "Behold, I have made you a new, sharp threshing sledge with double edges; You will thresh the mountains and pulverize them, And will make the hills like chaff. 16 "You will winnow them, and the wind will carry them away, And the storm will scatter them; But you will rejoice in the LORD, You will glory in the Holy One of Israel.

In this episode of On The Mark, Mark Immelman returns from Scotland with fresh insight from a week of Links Golf, the Genesis Scottish Open, and Open Championship week. Mark breaks down Tom Kim's impressive victory at the Genesis Scottish Open and shares what golfers of all levels can learn from his patience, maturity, shot-making, routine, and renewed approach to the game. After a period of searching, coaching changes, and mental clutter, Tom Kim found his way back by simplifying his swing, trusting his process, and accepting that even great work does not always produce immediate results. Mark also dives into the unique demands of links golf: firm fairways, tight lies, pot bunkers, wind, trajectory control, creativity, patience, recovery, and attitude. Whether you are preparing for a golf trip, watching The Open Championship, or simply trying to improve your everyday game, this episode is packed with practical lessons you can apply immediately. In This Episode, You'll Learn: What Tom Kim's Scottish Open victory teaches golfers about patience and maturity. Why good practice does not always guarantee good results. How expectations can hurt your performance. The “Golf Life Cycle” of good, indifferent, bad, indifferent, and good play. Why you should not panic when your game starts trending downward. How to identify your strengths, habits, and tendencies as a golfer. Why short game and recovery skills are essential when your ball striking is off. What Tom Kim changed in his swing to create more consistency. How quiet wrists can help stabilize the club face. A simple centered pivot drill you can do at home. Why “Operation 30” can help golfers stop overthinking. How to play firm, fast links conditions. Why the chip-and-run is so valuable on tight lies. How to vary trajectory and club selection in changing conditions. When to use the putter from off the green, and How to better understand and manage wind on the golf course. Key Takeaways: Golf improvement is holistic. Fitness, energy, walking endurance, mindset, and swing mechanics all affect performance. Links golf rewards patience, creativity, recovery, and smart decision-making. Tom Kim's win was a lesson in maturity, patience, conviction, and simplifying the mind. When your game gets shaky, return to your fundamentals instead of trying every quick fix. Great players make their bad days decent by relying on short game, putting, and smart course management. Quiet wrists can help improve club face control and ball striking consistency. A centered pivot can help improve contact, especially in wind. Doubt creates tension, and tension wrecks golf swings. A confident swing with the wrong club is often better than a doubtful swing with the right club. Wind hurts more than it helps, so plan accordingly, and Practicing different trajectories, uneven lies, and wind conditions can prepare you for real golf. This podcast is a one-stop shop where you will get game improvement insights, Links Golf insights and a nugget or two on how to deal with the inevitable slumps in golf. CHAPTER 4Ithe greatest love seems indifferent: Because it has no preferences.A good father loves all his children equally, whether they turn out to be thieves or carpenters or messiahs. As Jesus of Nazareth said, "Love your enemies [i.e., treat them with generosity and compassion], so that you may be children of your father in heaven: for he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends his rain on the just and on the unjust."www.Startearlytoday.com
Seventeen foreign universities have set up campuses in India in two years. Most can't fill their seats. And a Rs 1,000 crore scholarship push launched last month is the most visible sign yet that something isn't working. The pitch is this: a western degree without the visa hassle, at Rs 15 to 25 lakh a year, which is roughly what Ashoka and Plaksha charge, but without the research environment or the actual campus. Students who wanted to leave India aren't particularly interested in a single-floor setup in a Gift City corporate building. So why are so many foreign universities suddenly this desperate for Indian students?Tune in to find out.*Correction: The host mentions that Emeritus is the parent company of Eruditus. Eruditus is the company that has partnered with seven schools for a revenue-sharing model, not Emeritus. Emeritus is a brand under Eruditus. *Clarification: The profit Eruditus posted of $400 million is independent of its partnerships with the universities. Classes under this partnership are yet to start and has made no revenue yet.Daybreak is produced from the newsroom of The Ken, India's first subscriber-only business news platform. What's up Bros? Kyle and Amanda continue to butt heads at the summer house, but the rest of the crew is unaffected. Summer is very fun right now. West and the rest are all having a good time and seemingly unbothered by Kyle doing Kyle stuff. Jesse and Ciara have a cute friendship but is there something more there...? We personally prefer West and Ciara and their vibes but hey as long as summer is fun we dont really care. We get to know KJ some more and about his upbringing. Things get serious at the beach when Kyle takes Amanda to "apology dune". Just one problem... he didnt apologize. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

I am a public philosopher, it is my only job. I am enabled to do this job, in large part, thanks to support from my listeners and readers. You can support my work, keep it independent and online, at https://stoicismpod.com/members Looking for more Stoic content? Consider my 3x/week newsletter "Stoic Brekkie": https://stoicbrekkie.com In this episode, I take up a question that seems settled, orthodox, and uncontroversial: can indifferents be preferred or dispreferred? Most Stoics would say yes and move on. But there is a serious ancient challenge to that position, and understanding it matters more than most people realize. I begin with the standard Stoic account, drawing on Zeno as recorded by Stobaeus and Cicero. Virtue alone is good, vice alone is bad, and everything else is indifferent. Still, some indifferents are naturally preferred or rejected because they align with our rational nature. Health, social cooperation, and material sufficiency are not goods, but they are “according to nature.” I then introduce the provocateur: Ariston of Chios. Ariston rejects the very idea of preferred and dispreferred indifferents. In his view, calling something a preferred indifferent is just calling it a good under another name. For Ariston, everything between virtue and vice is radically neutral, and any preference only arises situationally, never because the thing itself has standing within nature. I explain why this disagreement is not merely semantic. Ariston's position is inseparable from his rejection of Stoic physics and logic. Once those are removed, there is no rational structure of nature to ground stable preferences. Ethics collapses into a stark minimalism where virtue alone matters and everything else is interchangeable depending on circumstance. This is why later Stoics saw Ariston as a dead end rather than a reformer. Without physics and logic, Stoic ethics loses its ability to guide action across time, roles, and recurring human situations. The philosophy becomes thinner, not sharper. Finally, I connect this ancient dispute to a modern problem. Contemporary Stoicism often tries to keep the ethics while quietly discarding the physics and logic as unnecessary or outdated. That move repeats Ariston's mistake. Stoicism can evolve, but it cannot survive if its foundations are simply removed without replacement. You cannot pull the columns out from under the Stoa and expect the roof to hold. If we want Stoicism to remain coherent, actionable, and philosophically serious, we need to understand why preferred indifferents exist and what architectural commitments make them possible in the first place. Heiko and Sabine grew up in Germany in homes that did not foster relationship with Christ. Together they tell the story of their journey towards Christ. Before conversion, they experienced love from Christians which pointed to the truth of Christianity. After conversion, Scripture became a powerful force for change in their lives, and Jesus' redemptive work saved their marriage.Special thanks to Credo Schloss Unspunnen for the filming location and hospitality. Welcome to the Via Stoica Podcast, the podcast on Stoicism. In this Stoic Quotes edition, we reflect on Seneca's On Anger, Book III, where he reports Aristotle's concern that, without anger, the mind becomes “indifferent to great endeavors.” Seneca, Dialogues and Essays, On Anger, 3Seneca introduces this idea to question it. For the Stoics, anger is not a source of strength but a disturbance of reason. It clouds judgment and pulls us away from deliberate, ethical action. The greatest endeavor is not an external achievement, but the cultivation of character. Virtue does not need anger to motivate it.This view runs throughout Stoic philosophy. Epictetus urges us to examine impressions before giving assent, and Marcus Aurelius reminds himself to act without bitterness. Through the three Stoic disciplines, anger reflects misplaced desire, unexamined assent, and impulsive action. In practice, this means noticing anger early, pausing before reacting, and questioning the judgments behind it. Calm commitment to virtue proves far more powerful than anger ever could. For more, check out this related article with quotes on anger and self-control:https://viastoica.com/10-seneca-quotes-on-anger/And if you're looking for more Stoic sayings, visit viastoica.com, where you'll find hundreds of quotes with full references to the original texts:https://viastoica.com/stoic-quoteshttps://viastoica.com/marcus-aurelius-quoteshttps://viastoica.com/epictetus-quoteshttps://viastoica.com/seneca-quotesMake sure to subscribe for more Stoic Quotes episodes every Friday, as well as our Tuesday interviews and longer discussions.Support the showhttps://viastoica.comhttps://viastoica.com/stoic-life-coachinghttps://viastoica.com/benny-vonckenhttps://x.com/ViaStoicainfo@viastoica.comProduced by: https://badmic.com

Episode 258How 2 B IndifferentSensers! Safe to say a lot of shit bothers us to the point we have to defend or feel the need to say something on a particular matter if it interferes with what we believe about the subject. Some of us also tend to let pettiness eat at our minds and we want to do something about it in our own way; be it retaliation or vengeance towards our deemed enemies. What would happen if we remained indifferent on things sent to get a reaction out of us? Rarely do you hear a man complain about not getting enough gifts for Christmas from families and those we love. How important are gifts to a man on the holidays? I tend to believe that the gift is being able to give gifts for those that we value. I want to talk about gifts and how me as a man deals with the holiday season when it comes to gifts.Christmas time is here and what does that feel like to you today? I can tell you growing up Christmas was an event, all the activities and actions leading up to December 25th. Constant pestering parents for the latest toy on market I saw on a commercial, trying to keep up with my classmates in fashion, or listening to my parents' favorite Christmas albums in the car. I'd like to take you back to that Christmas feeling we once shared as kids with this topic. May God and His Universe remove any negative energy you may have stored from reading this. Government Against GodI used to be proud I can honestly say.To live in this great land, the U.S. of A.When I went through divorce court those feelings changed. From that time on life will never be the same.God said for adultery that we must all pay, Yet government says for women it's okay. They ignore God's word, and do just the other, Punishing dads and kids for sins of the mother.Divorce for them is all the money that they make, Indifferent to fathers and children they forsake.Women today are aware of reality.Men and kids pay for their infidelity. Most crimes these days are from kids of fatherless homes.Yet still today the injustices go on; They pay back tenfold the money that they make. For crimes committed by children they forsake. For pain and sorrow that we suffer these days, We can thank our governments' one-sided ways. When asked, “Whom do I give my loyalty to?”I'll choose God over government. my invited talk at the first Stoicon-X Brasil online conference. Due to technical issues, I provided a live presentation (translation provided by participants) to the conference. In this presentation, I briefly present the Stoic doctrine of the indifferents (adiaphoria), namely that Stoics view many things as neither good nor bad, but are indifferent. Some indifferents may be "preferred" or "rejected", which means that they have some positive or negative value, but not the sort of that makes us virtuous or vicious, happy or miserable. The Stoics teach that we should not be entirely indifferent to the indifferents, for several important reasons. The use (khresis or usus) of indifferents is not something indifferent, and as Epictetus tells us, is something we ought to be careful about. The virtues, as Seneca and Cicero clarify, bear upon indifferents. Why don't unchurched people attend church? It's not because they're mad or too busy. The top reason is simple: they just don't see the point. Indifference is the enemy of engagement. In today's episode, Josh and Sam share why that's actually good news—and how the combination of spiritual conviction and a personal invitation can break through the apathy. The All Blacks have held the Bledisloe Cup since 2003, so has that dulled their desire for more success against the Wallabies? And what about New Zealand fans, do they care as much as they used to, or have years of winning made them indifferent? Rugby reporter Joe Porter is in Auckland ahead of tomorrow night's test at Eden Park and tried to find out.
In this episode, I respond to a challenging and emotionally heavy listener question: how can Stoicism claim that only Virtue is Good and only Vice is Evil, even in the face of horrific acts like rape? This isn't a theoretical exercise in cruelty—it's a serious inquiry into Stoic ethical nuance. The heart of the issue is understanding what Stoicism means when it calls something "indifferent," and why it insists that moral value resides not in actions themselves, but in the moral character of the person choosing them. I explain the two definitions of indifferents in Stoicism: one refers to things that don't affect our own character (if we're not the actor), and the other refers to things whose moral value is undefined until context is applied. Through that lens, I show how horrific acts like rape are always unjust—and thus always vicious—not because of the physical actions involved, but because of the context in which they occur. This episode isn't easy listening, but it's essential for any serious student of Stoicism who wants to understand how Stoic ethics holds together even in the hardest moral cases. NO MEDITATION CITED THIS EPISODE THREE TAKEAWAYS — Stoicism distinguishes between actions and contexts; moral value is always determined by context. — Rape is not an indifferent in the moral sense; it is always an act of injustice, and thus always vicious. — Virtue and Vice remain the only true Good and Evil because context—not action—defines moral quality.
