This week we try a new AA game from former Ubisoft developers called Clair Obscur Expedition 33. It's inspired by Belle Époque France and JRPG's. This is the best game we've played this year. From the art style, to the music to the complex turn-based combat, this game has it all to make for a great game. The storytelling is incredible and the world they built is stunning. You have to see it to believe it. It will be hard to beat this game this year!We also review Split Fiction, the follow up to the 2021 Game of the Year: It Takes Two. In Split Fiction, you play either Mio or Zoe. Both are writers, one of science fiction and the other fantasy who end up in a simulation of their own stories. They have to work together to escape. It has great gameplay, gorgeous graphics and is a fun ride start to finish.Brett also gets his hands on the tech test for the extraction shooter Arc Raiders from Embark Studios. Embark is known for the game Brett is obsessed with called The Finals and this is their take on an extraction shooter genre. This game is hard but full of style. The graphics are incredible, the performance is outstanding and the world is very immersive with great sound design. We can't wait for this one to release later this year.Lastly, we talk about Borderlands 4 and our hype from the State of Play. It is going more open world than before and we can't wait to see what's around the corner. It looks great! We also have some not so fun news from Xbox where they have announced price increases for their consoles and video games later this year. Will this make it harder to sell new games? In today's Daily Fix:Embracer, the mega conglomerate that owns the Tolkien license and publishes a slew of games from Factorio to Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed, has provided a financial update on their recent games. And it's not good. The Epic Mickey remake sales were "slower than expected." Return to Moria, a Lord of the Rings survival crafting game, did well on PC, and was released on PS5 this year to decent sales, but it wasn't enough to stop the company from selling off Borderlands dev Gearbox Software, or Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 dev Saber Interactive. In other news, Infinity Nikki, an open-world dress up game, has a release date of December 5th. The game comes from former Zelda director Kentaro Tominaga. And speaking of release dates, Atomfall, the "British Fallout," will hit PlayStation and Xbox consoles and PC on March 27, 2025. It's also a day one game for Game Pass.

Robert Winfree, Jason Teasley and Mark Radulich present their Borderlands 2024 Movie Review!Borderlands is a 2024 American science fiction action comedy film co-written and directed by Eli Roth, based on the video game series developed by Gearbox Software. It stars Cate Blanchett as Lillith, an outlaw who forms an alliance with a team of misfits to find the missing daughter of the most powerful man in the universe. The ensemble cast also features Kevin Hart, Jack Black, Édgar Ramírez, Ariana Greenblatt, Florian Munteanu, Gina Gershon and Jamie Lee Curtis.The film was announced in August 2015, with Lionsgate Films developing it with Ari and Avi Arad producing, and Leigh Whannell in talks to direct. By February 2020, Erik Feig had joined as a producer and Roth was attached to direct from a screenplay by Craig Mazin. Casting took place from May 2020 to April 2021, with Blanchett cast first and others the following year. Principal photography began in April 2021 in Budapest, Hungary, during the COVID-19 pandemic, and wrapped in June. Two weeks of reshoots took place in early 2023, directed by Tim Miller due to Roth's commitments to Thanksgiving (2023). That June, Mazin removed his name from the project and was replaced by Joe Crombie.Borderlands premiered at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles on August 6, 2024, and was released in the United States by Lionsgate on August 9. I have never really had much interest in the games but from reading the premise, I always thought a movie adaptation could be fun. That being said, the behind the scenes nightmare that we've heard this film turned into and the constant delays (the movie BEGAN PRODUCTION in April 2021) kind of killed any excitement.
