In 1989, Kristen Gilbert started her nursing career at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Northampton, Massachusetts. She impressed medical staff for her quick and skilled reactions to emergencies on her ward and in the ICU. But over the following seven years, so much death occurred during her shifts that she gained the moniker “The Angel of Death.” Was it a coincidence, or was Kristen Gilbert killing her patients? Lucy Letby, The Lainz Angels of Death, Kristen Gilbert, and Michael Swango. All of these people have two things in common. They are all former. medical professionals and they are all killers. In today's chapter, Courtney had the honor of sitting down with Bruce Sackman, former Special Agent in Charge, U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs (VA), Office of Inspector General, Criminal Investigations Division, Northeast Field Office who began his career investigating crimes in VA hospitals such as fraud and narcotics crimes, until he got a call about a doctor killing patients in a VA Hospital. Dr. Michael Swango. Bruce sat down and told us all about the investigation and how he and his team spent years digging up all of Swango's secrets as he traveled to other hospitals as far as Zimbabwe taking more lives until they could finally bring him up on charges. Kristen Gilbert was a high performing, popular nurse at the VA hospital. Under större delen av 90-talet arbetade Kristen Gilbert som sjuksköterska på ett veteransjukhus i Massachusetts. Hon var ung, smart, kunnig och omtyckt bland sina kollegor. Däremot blev hon senare tilldelad smeknamnet “The Angel of Death” eftersom att väldigt många av Kristens patienter avled under hennes arbetspass. Något som till en början verkade som en olycklig slump, men tids nog skulle den betydligt mörkare sanningen komma upp till ytan.Detta är sista avsnittet för säsong 8. Nurses often take what they call the Florence Nightingale Pledge at graduation. It goes, in part, like this: “I solemnly pledge myself before God and in the presence of this assembly, to pass my life in purity and to practice my profession faithfully. I will abstain from whatever is deleterious and mischievous, and will not take or knowingly administer any harmful drug….With loyalty will I endeavor to aid the physician in his work, and devote myself to the welfare of those committed to my care.” A solemn promise, from caregiver to patient, to protect the lives in their care—and above all, to do no harm. Most nurses work hard to stick to that promise. But a few, often managing to slither under the radar for years before they're caught, do just the opposite. They chose nursing not because they wanted to heal, but because it's a target-rich environment for them to hunt for prey. This is the story of one of those nurses: Kristen Gilbert. We all know those people who love and/or possibly need to be the center of attention at all times. Sometimes they may exaggerate or even flat out lie just to get some more attention. It's a drug to them. But some people are willing to go much too far to satisfy their deeply narcissistic tendencies. This week we tell you about a woman like this who's need for love and attention could never be truly satisfied. And because of her own selfishness, many United States military veterans have paid the ultimate price. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app
This episode, much like all the Mad Hatter episodes, will be exploring some graphic stories and details that may be a trigger so please consider your own trauma stories and experiences when deciding to listen. Mad as a Hatter. Do you know the story behind the phrase? The insanity behind the character? The phrase was used to describe someone who's crazy or prone to unpredictable behavior. Between the 18th and 19th centuries, hatters used Mercury in their creations. The Mercury poisoning resulted in what was believed to be insanity and chaotic behavior; thus, “Mad as a Hatter”, was born. The following stories are my picks for further discussion. How the impact of mental health, relationship challenges, and circumstances can lead to murder. While it goes without saying that a mental health diagnosis does not create a murderer. However, in these cases, a diagnosis left untreated, the opportunity, and the right catalyst can create a monster. Won't you come with me as we enter Wonderland After Dark? Don't worry, it won't hurt. Episode 2 - Kristen Gilbert This episode is dedicated to the victims, known and unknown. Kristen Gilbert was a nurse who committed at least four murders at a VA hospital in Massachusetts. But, authorities believe she could be responsible for many more deaths, maybe upwards of one hundred. This comes from the fact that during her time at the hospital, Kristen was on duty for more than 100 deaths.Join Mike and Gibby as they discuss Kristen Gilbert. Kristen had a good childhood and many people who knew her had positive things to say about her. The one thing that has come up was that she craved attention and would lie and manipulate people to get that attention. Authorities believe this constant need for attention also had something to do with her murders. Did she murder to get the attention of a man in her life? Or, did she murder while trying to set up emergency situations where she could swoop in and get attention by being the savior? You can help support the show at patreon.com/truecrimeallthetimeVisit the show's website at truecrimeallthetime.com for merchandise, contact, and donation informationAn Emash Digital productionSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

The Case of Beverley Allitt is a familiar one to kristin gilbert in the sense that Beverley Allitt was also known as the Angel of Death in Great Britain. It is also familiar to the case of gypsy rose because it is thought that she suffered from Munchausen syndrome by proxy. Beverley Allitt was responsible for attacking children in the same way Kristen Gilbert attacked adults in the hospital, similar way but this in my mind is worse because its kids man.. come on. Hello and welcome to Episode 17 of Smoke Til It’s Gone or Die! This week, we’ve got quite the body count...Rylee tells the wicked tale of Catherine Monviosin, a woman from 1600s France who dipped her toes in many different pools. A high-priestess in the Catholic Church, a con-artist, poison-maker, and attempted assassin of The Sun King; Catherine taught us a valuable lesson. And that is: Poison First Prison Later! Going along with this theme, Patty covers the story of Kristen Gilbert. The Wicked Nurse of Western Mass, armed with epinephrine and a battery-operated voice-changer, wreaked havoc on the C Ward of a VA Hospital in Northampton MA in the 80s and 90s. Like we said...quite the body count. Rylee’s Probable Cause this week is Feeding America, please read up and donate at https://www.feedingamerica.org/. Their mission is to feed America’s hungry through a nationwide network of member food banks and engage our country in the fight to end hunger. Patty’s Probable Cause this week is The American Nurses Association’s dedicated Coronavirus Response Fund. Please consider making a donation at https://www.nursingworld.org/foundation/programs/coronavirus-response-fund/ The Fund has four focus areas: Supporting the mental health of nurses – today and in the future. Ensuring nurses everywhere have access to the latest science-based information to protect themselves, prevent infection, and care for those in need. Driving the national advocacy focused on nurses and patients. Provide direct financial assistance to nurses facing hardship due to a COVID diagnosis. Thanks for listening!
