The Postscript Show podcast is a truly valuable resource for anyone seeking to deepen their understanding of the Bible and grow in their faith. With discussions ranging from ministry and theology to family and scripture, this podcast covers a wide range of topics that are applicable to all areas of ministry. As a listener, I have been incredibly blessed by the insights shared by pastors, missionaries, and leaders who take the time to engage in these important conversations. It feels like a glimpse into courses at Living Faith Bible Institute and provides seminary-level training for free.

One of the best aspects of The Postscript Show is the depth and breadth of topics covered. From leadership and church planting to Bible translations and doctrine, each episode carefully explores these subjects through the lens of what the Bible says. This ensures that listeners receive sound theological teaching that is rooted in Scripture. The guests on the show bring unique perspectives and expertise, making each episode informative and insightful.

Furthermore, this podcast has had a profound impact on my spiritual walk. As a new believer in Jesus Christ, it has guided me in understanding God's Word and has edified me in ways that other podcasts have not been able to replicate. The teachings are clear, practical, and applicable to everyday life. It has not only shaped my understanding of Scripture but also how I view relationships with other believers and live out Christ's love.

However, one aspect that could be improved is the length of the episodes. While they provide convenient bite-sized chunks of wisdom, I often find myself wanting more as they leave me hungry for further discussion. Nonetheless, this format does allow for smaller amounts of information to be considered at a time without overwhelming listeners.

In conclusion, I highly recommend The Postscript Show podcast to anyone seeking a Bible-centered, theologically sound resource. Whether you are a seasoned believer or someone exploring Christianity, this podcast offers valuable insights into living out the Christian faith based on solid biblical teachings. The conversations are engaging, the topics are diverse, and the impact on one's spiritual walk is immeasurable. Give it a listen and be prepared to be challenged and encouraged in your journey of faith.

In today's episode, we're tackling a topic that challenges cultural norms and theological assumptions: polygamy. What was once considered a fringe practice in the U.S. is now gaining more visibility, prompting questions about marriage, ethics, and faith. What does the Bible say and how should Christians understand this subject? In the Old Testament we see polygamy in practice among patriarchs and kings who had multiple wives –but how did God perceive that? Are there instances in which God condones the practice? To help us navigate this topic, we're joined by missiology professor James Fyffe, a missionary himself, who spent time ministering in cultures where polygamy is a longstanding tradition. Today we will look to God's word to find out not only what the Bible says about polygamy, but how this question may impact people in ministry and on the mission field. Play Episode Listen Later Apr 21, 2025 64:05

The Old Testament tabernacle was meticulously crafted according to divine instruction and served as the central place of worship and communion between God and His people during Israel's wilderness journey. Far more than a portable sanctuary, the tabernacle was the tangible manifestation of God's presence dwelling among His covenant people. Its detailed construction, from the outer court to the Most Holy Place, was imbued with theological significance, providing the nation of Israel with rich symbolism in their worship. The alter of incense was a sacred piece of furniture in the tabernacle used for burning incense as a daily offering to the Lord. It was located just outside the Holy of Holies. For the New Testament believer, the altar of incense has tons of typological significance, with layers of prophetic meaning, holding truths that find their fullest expression in Christ. The tabernacle wasn't just for Israel but it testifies to the divine design that culminates in Christ's redemptive mission and relationship with mankind. To discuss the typology behind the altar of incense specifically, we have invited Brian Hedges, pastor at Heartland Baptist Fellowship in Harrisonville, MO and president of Word First Publishing.Visit https://www.lfbi.org/learnmore

Whether it's due to witnessing a leadership failure, experiencing cultures of legalism, exclusion, or spiritual abuse - church hurt can leave lasting scars that challenge not only a person's trust in others, but also their relationship with God.How do people who have experienced these things overcome their feelings? How do we grieve the failures of people we respected and loved? How do we confront bitterness and what in some cases may be justification for personalsin? How do we find the strength to forgive and move on in our pursuit of Christ? In this episode, we're joined by Jonathan Kindler, professor of Biblical Counseling at the Living Faith Bible Institute, who has both experienced “church hurt” firsthand and dedicated much of his work to helping others navigate it. Play Episode Listen Later Mar 31, 2025 49:11

Tithing has long been a fundamental practice among Christians as an act of faith and obedience. Many churches today continue to emphasize tithing as a means of supporting ministry, aiding the needy, and demonstrating trust in God's provision. No doubt about it though, when money is involved, there will be bad actors. With the rise of televangelism and the seed-faith gospel, many Christians have grown cynical about giving. Even in local churches, there is a growing sentiment that the Christian is not responsible for the tithe, but that it is an Old Testament practice, done away with in the New Testament. Is that true? What does scripture reveal about the practice of the tithe? Is it relevant today?Brandon Briscoe, Provost of Living Faith Bible Institute, has invited Pastor Chris Best, Missiology instructor at the Living Faith Bible Institute onto the show to address this subject from a biblical perspective.Visit https://lfbi.org/learnmore

Ministry is often portrayed as a calling, as it should be filled with purpose, impact, and divine fulfillment. Yet the reality for many pastors, missionaries, and church leaders is that gospel ministry comes with seasons of deep discouragement and often failure. Learning to recover from errors in judgment and feelings of failure and fruitlessness is absolutely crucial for someone's leadership, not just for our own personal well-being, but also for sustaining long term faithfulness in the work of the ministry. Too often, leaders internalize their setbacks as a sign that God has rejected them, but failure does not mean the end of ministry. Failure can be the very place where growth and deeper faith in Christ begins. In today's episode, we talk with Pastor Mitch Dobson, Biblical Studies Instructor of the Living Faith Institute, to explore these difficult yet transformative moments, turning to the Scriptures to remind us of God's promises during these critical times in life and ministry.Visit https://www.lfbi.org/learnmore

“WWJD?” It's a virtuous aim for Christians to behave like Jesus Christ. Feeding and clothing the poor, caring for the orphan and widow are the command of Scripture, and a righteous pursuit of any disciple of Jesus Christ. But what about other social injustices like economic equality or racial equity? Is it the aim of the Christian to fight against child labor or unjust wars, or advocate for environmental protections or public education? If so, in what way and in what context? What are the boundaries of Christian responsibility? Is our primary goal as Christians to pursue the establishment of a Christian ethic in our world? Or is it to preach the gospel in order to see souls saved? Today, provost of Living Faith Bible Institute, Brandon Briscoe, has invited Pastor Allen Shelby of Harvest Baptist Church, dean of the living Faith Bible Institute, to chat about the Social Gospel, a movement that has influenced the church for over 150 years now. Pastor Shelby expounds key Bible passages in the gospels pertaining to the aim of the Christian, showing from Christ's own words how the social gospel has led the church away from a scripturally faithful approach to ministry and world missions.Visit https://www.lfbi.org/learnmore

Since that time, the department of defense has received over 5,000 reports of unidentified aerial phenomenon (UAP). To make matters worse, government officials have been anything but transparent about what's going on and have downplayed what appears to the American public like either a security threat or an alien invasion. Many of the reports, even from the experts, are suggesting that the size of these UAP's is much larger than common drones, many reports suggest they are the size of cars. Their peculiar movements are also inexplicable and not like common aircrafts.Social media and talking heads have had a field day with this of course, but on today's show, want to look at the history of this technology and then look for instances within scripture where we find examples of “UAP's” and then try and draw some hyposthesis about what we are seeing in our news cycle and in our skies.Pastor Brandon Briscoe, the provost of Living Faith Bible Institute, has invited Brian Bustos on the show for today's conversation. In the song “With God on Our Side”, Bob Dylan famously criticized the American predilection to confidently claim that our personal and political endeavors are touched by God, “Oh, my name, it ain't nothin', my age, it means less. The country I come from is called the Midwest. I's taught and brought up there, the laws to abide. And that the land that I live in has God on its side.”Now Dylan is no theologian, but he does highlight an interesting dilemma, and he causes us to ask some serious questions. What do we make of claims in politics and culture, that God favors a particular side or position? What makes these claims credible and what makes them dangerous? How does a Christian truly discern if God has providentially aligned himself with a man, a movement, and institution or a cause.Today on the Postscript we will be discussing this subject from the perspective of history – what can be learned from observing historic instances in which people, Christians in particular, have made the claim that God was on their side.To have this discussion, we have invited Dr. Thomas Kidd, Research Professor of Church History at Midwestern and the John and Sharon Yeats Endowed Chair of Baptist Studies. To be “filled with the Spirit” is a biblical phrase, often used but rarely understood. Some would use the phrase to describe either another Christian's character or a moment when someone seems to have divine inspiration. Most commonly, the term “filled with the Spirit” is used to describe sudden ecstatic behavior. What is clear is that the church struggles to understand what the Bible means when it says:Eph 5:17 Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord [is]. 18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; 19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;Today on the Postscript, we have Pastor Brian Clark, church planter, author, and Biblical studies instructor at LFBI, to discuss this topic with Brandon Briscoe, provost of LFBI. Can you imagine the fears that he and his parents had to overcome to get to that place? What did Timothy have to risk in order to see God use him in such a mighty way? We have become risk averse in the evangelical church today. We fear what we can't see, and we are prone to dreaming small. We prefer comfort to victory. Many of us are stagnant in our ministry because we fear saying yes to the call of God on our lives. But what makes us risk averse? How is it that we've gotten to this place? There are what can feel like an overwhelming amount of skeptics today concerning New Testament scholarship, even within evangelical and Baptist circles. Today on The Postscript we demonstrate a few apparent contradictions in Jesus's miracles across gospel writers Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, showing how many so-called contradictions in the Bible are dismantled with simple Bible study principles such as context and key words, which illuminate a more holistic picture of the scene than one account could alone. There is purpose behind every apparent contradiction in the Bible that only the earnest and honest student of God's Word will go the length to understand. Instructor of Biblical Studies at the Living Faith Bible Institute Mitch Dobson and Provost of LFBI Brandon Briscoe walks us through some of those doctrinal insights which are useful for Christian life and ministry as they examine a few apparent contradictions in an exegetical fashion.Visit: https://www.lfbi.org/learnmore

Today, Provost of Living Faith Bible Institute Brandon Briscoe discusses a new book with author John Wright, Prodigals: Hope for Lost Sons and Daughters, Regretful or Longsuffering Parents, and Bitter Brethren. Whether you're a parent, sibling, or friend, you've likely felt the sting of a loved one abandoning you or the faith for a life of wandering in the world. There are complex emotions tangled up in this hurt—anger at the offense, confusion at the decision, bitterness at the rejection, and grief at the loss, among many others. It is a great comfort that this phenomenon is not estranged from God, and He has laid out stories and principles in His Word that can guide us in this process. Prodigals uses the story of the prodigal son to walk through a biblical perspective of loved ones' hurtful decisions but also a biblical perspective of our own hearts as we learn to reckon that hurt rightly. Using Luke 15 as the guiding passage, we follow along with the prodigal son as he rejects his father's provision, seeks fulfillment in the world, is greatly humbled, and returns penitent to a welcoming father. This story outlines for us the typical trajectory of a prodigal, and in so doing, it offers hope to those who, like the father, are patiently waiting at home for their loved one's return. Prodigals also addresses other heart postures woven into this story, speaking specifically to those who may be wrestling with bitterness, envy, and skepticism at a prodigal's decisions, or to those who may be prodigals themselves. Through God's Word we come to learn that God's heart is one of grace, longsuffering, and reconciliation, and as believers in Jesus Christ, we get to adopt that same heart towards our children, siblings, and friends who have wandered. View all Living Faith Book titles here: https://lfbi.org/books Purchase Prodigals here: https://a.co/d/dK4CwqM Visit https://www.lfbi.org/learnmore

Episode 202: The Imminent Return of Christ & Pretribulation Rapture Theology

Since the beginning of the church, Bible believers have discussed the return of Christ. The Apostle Paul admonishes the church in Rome to prepare for the return of Christ in Romans 13:11, “And that, knowing the time, that now [it is] high time to awake out of sleep: for now [is] our salvation nearer than when we believed. 12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.” And yet, despite Paul's appeal to Christ's imminent return, theologians still debate if and when Jesus will return and under what circumstances. Today Brandon Briscoe, Provost of Living Faith Bible Institute has invited Pastor Sam Miles, President of LFBI to discuss the imminent return of Christ, a pretribulation rapture, and to ask the questions like, “What is the order of the end times events? What is the rapture?” and, “Why is the topic of the ‘rapture of the church' so significant to Christians?” Visit https://www.lfbi.org/learnmore

Episode 201: What is Biblical Fasting & Why Do We Do It?

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 5, 2024

Throughout the Old Testament, we find holy men and women who committed themselves to the work of prayer and fasting. People like Moses, King David, Ahab, Daniel, Ezra, Nehemiah, Esther, and the Jewish people. Fasting was employed as they sought forgiveness from egregious sins that they'd committed or when loved ones needed restoration for health issues, when people needed protection from danger or needed protection from their enemies. Fasting is not just a phenomenon of the Old Testament. Fasting continues to be recognized as an important way to draw near to God and to seek his face in times of hardship and trouble. Today, Provost of Living Faith Bible Institute Brandon Briscoe has invited Pastor James Fyffe to discuss what the Bible says about fasting. James is a professor of Missiology at the LFBI, as well as professor of nursing at Rockhurst University. Visit https://www.lfbi.org/learnmore
