Hi, friends! We've been working hard this month getting back into the swing of things. We spent four days vending at various markets this month and March and April are slated to be busy as well. We also had the official grand opening of our farm store in Hotchkiss and it's been so amazing to connect with people in person when they come in to browse our teas and other herbal products! We're getting ready to jump on our next project, which is getting the greenhouse built next month! We're also getting some seeds going indoors in the meantime, and then they'll move out to the greenhouse which we hope to have done by mid-April at the latest. This will let us get a HUGE jump on the growing season, as we can't really put many plants outside until the end of May. And as we wait for spring to arrive, I'm having fun editing some of the great interviews I've had time to record these last couple months, including today's wonderful convo with Lisa Fazio. Lisa is an Irish/Italian American folklore witch, herbalist, and astrologer, as well as the mother of 4 children and Nonna to 2 grandchildren. Her principal training is in Traditional Western Herbalism, Western Astrology, and the folk ways of her Italian immigrant family. The primary focus of her work is ancestral revival and remembrance within the Italian diaspora as well as with anyone who longs for ancestral connection. She has an academic background in Psychology and Ethnobotany as well as years of study and practice in the traditions of Trika Shaivism and Plant Spirit Medicine. She is also a tracker, a wilderness first responder and has spent 20 years working as a clinical and community herbalist. I'm so honored to have gotten to chat with Lisa about her book, Della Medicina: The Tradition of Italian-American Folk Healing. We had such a wonderful conversation and one thing I really want to emphasize is that you don't need to be of Italian heritage to get a ton of value out of Lisa's work! So much of what she shares crosses different cultures and backgrounds and I hope this will inspire you to dive into your own ancestry as well. Grab your own copy of Della Medicina! Connect with Jill: Instagram * Substack * Website ~*~*~*~*~*~ Our farm shop is full of goodies for you! We have two new offerings in the shop -- our Hot Italian Seasoning, and our Tummy Mender Tea. Our seasonal Lymph Love vinegar is also back in stock to guide us smoothly out of winter and into early spring over the next few months. Your support helps us to keep growing, literally and figuratively
In this episode, Lisa Fazio joins The Modern Witches Podcast to share the purpose and power behind Italian American folk healing. Her principal training is in Traditional Western Herbalism, Western Astrology, and the folk ways of her Italian immigrant family. She has also learned directly from observation and interaction with place, landscape, and the seasonal cycles as well as informal mentorship with elders where she learned tracking, foraging, gardening, and small-scale sustainable farming. Her work is primarily grounded in an animistic view of nature and reality and emphasizes direct encounters with plants, the ecosystem, the ancestors, and the divine. She has an academic background in Psychology and Ethnobotany as well as years of study and practice in the traditions of Trika Shaivism, Folk Catholicism, Witchcraft, and Plant Spirit Medicine. Is Dispensationalism just an innovative idea from the mind of John Nelson Darby? Dr. James Fazio returns to the Bible and Theology Matters podcast to answer that question and more. In November, Dr. Fazio and I were at the Evangelical Theological Society, which is a gathering of evangelical professors and scholars from all over the world. Well over 2,000 are in attendance each year. Various scholarly research papers are presented, after which dialogue ensues. Dr. Fazio presented a paper that addressed the old accusation that Dispensationalism is new, novel, sometimes even called a theological innovation that was masterminded by John Nelson Darby. There is one criticism of dispensationalism that comes up again and again: Dispensationalism is new, it can't be trusted. Is this true? Dr. Corey Marsh and Dr. James Fazio tackle this question. They trace dispensationalism in its kernel form through church history and show how it isn't just a modern concoction. https://a.co/d/b3ciU7N We, Scott and Gabe, need to know if you guys like the content. Wes Forester, PGA Director of Golf at Reynolds Lake Oconee joined Rob Thomas on the Club + Resort Talks podcast to discuss Richland—the seventh golf course at the Greensboro, Ga. property. The new 18-hole layout was created by acclaimed course architect Tom Fazio by combining nine holes from his existing National course with nine all-new holes. This gives Reynolds Lake Oconee two Fazio designs (Richland and The National) along with courses from Jack Nicklaus (Great Waters), Rees Jones (The Oconee), Jim Engh (Creek Club), and two by Bob Cupp (The Preserve and The Landing). The new Richland turns the Bluff nine from the original, Fazio-designed National—with some recent modifications—into holes 1 through 5 and 15 through 18. The new holes, 6 through 14, traverse the peninsula of Reynolds and tumbles down to the Richland side of Lake Oconee. The resulting layout provides plenty of challenge with fescue-lined fairways, numerous bunkers, and dramatic elevation changes. Among the changes to the nine Bluff holes were removing or repositioning bunkers, adding new ones, and combining smaller bunkers to create larger ones. Some greens have been reshaped and/or moved, often bringing the lake more into play. New fescue native areas and low-mow chipping areas were also added on some holes. The new nine utilizes significant elevation change to put an emphasis on club selection and angle of attack. Players will encounter doglegs, a deep valley and big ravine, plus sloping greens and strategically placed bunkering. They'll also have the chance to refresh themselves at a new halfway house – The Turn – between holes 9 and 10. The Turn is a mobile food truck that will serve burgers, sandwiches, wraps and a full array of beverages. Also on this podcast … In the world of golf clubs, resorts, and hospitality venues, delivering unforgettable player experiences is paramount, and effective team communication plays a central role in achieving this. Elle Ferebee, Senior Account Executive at Relay, highlights how the right communication tools not only streamline team interactions but also help transform member experiences into something truly memorable. The Glen Ridge (N.J.) Country Club's planned expansion includes constructing a children's pool and removing 56 trees, raising concerns among neighboring residents. The proposed pool placement—just 13 feet from the property line—requires a variance, as local law typically mandates a 100-foot setback. The Zoning Board of Adjustment was scheduled to review these variance requests Nov. 14. Findings have yet to be announced. One local resident expressed concerns about the impact of the expansion on noise levels in the area. Two years into a significant restoration effort, Asheville, N.C.'s historic Municipal Golf Course, known affectionately as “Muni,” is facing severe setbacks after Tropical Storm Helene. The city was close to completing multimillion-dollar improvements across the course's 18 holes, including upgrades to fairways, bunkers, cart paths, and greens, along with extensive stormwater system repairs. However, after Helene swept through on Sept. 27, the Swannanoa River, which runs beside the course, overflowed to more than 26 feet, submerging the surrounding areas. The resulting floodwaters inundated Muni's front nine holes, with water and debris gushing from drainage inlets, undermining the turf and reversing much of the recent improvement work.

How do you go from being a director of photography to a successful business owner of a film production company starting from scratch? Some people say you have to be a specialist to succeed in this modern world. And there's a lot of truth in that. But filmmaker Daniel Fazio has gone about things differently. In his own words, he's not been amazingly successful at any one thing, but he's been pretty damn good at a lot of things - and that's what has enabled him to build a solid business.Perhaps more interestingly, his capacity to take on new skills and adapt to new ways of getting ahead as a filmmaker, has helped him better understand who he is and what he wants in life. If you're just starting out as a filmmaker, or even if you want more insight into working with creatives, this episode is packed with valuable observations about the process of getting all kinds of film projects off the ground and distributed. Contributor: Ricky Dhaliwal, MD Educational Pearls: Takotsubo cardiomyopathy, also known as "broken heart syndrome,” is a temporary heart condition that can mimic the symptoms of a heart attack, including troponin elevations and mimic STEMI on ECG. The exact cause is not fully understood, but it is often triggered by severe emotional or physical stress. The stress can lead to a surge of catecholamines which affects the heart (multivessel spasm/paralysed myocardium). The name "Takotsubo" comes from the Japanese term for a type of octopus trap, as the left ventricle takes on a distinctive shape resembling this trap during systole. The LV is dilated and part of the wall becomes akenetic. These changes can be seen on ultrasound. The population most at risk for Takotsubo are post-menopausal women. Coronary angiography is one of the only ways to differentiate Takotsubo from other acute coronary syndromes. Most people with Takotsubo cardiomyopathy recover fully. References Amin, H. Z., Amin, L. Russ Fazio has spent his career getting to the bottom of how opinions work. From his first study as a college student in 1974 to a leading expert in basically everything, his work has had a deep impact on the field of social psychology (and communication and political science...) His research over the years has included game-changing work on cognitive dissonance, implicit bias, automatic cognition, negativity biases, and the relationship between attitudes and behavior. How to cover a whole career in one podcast episode!? We stick to a few highlights. Russ shares some of his earliest work that leapt on a real-world challenge to test basic theoretical ideas, how he was able to push the boundaries of technology to examine how opinions spring to mind automatically, and how a creative video game about beans can reveal deep truths about the human condition. This episode was recorded in person at the WOSU studios!
