The Boston Red Sox drafted Frank Rodriguez out of high school with their 2nd round pick in the 1990 amateur draft, but he elected to go to junior college in 1991. Rodriguez led the JUCO ranks in home runs (26) and pitching strikeouts (139), and was named MVP of the Junior College World Series, when Howard College beat Manatee Community College in the title game. The Red Sox signed him nine hours before they would lose his rights and he would enter the 1991 amateur draft. Boston promised to let him start his career as a shortstop. Rodriguez's other 1991 major career highlights include being named college player of the year by Baseball America; being the Texas state regional tournament MVP; being named MVP of Howard College's baseball team; receiving an invitation for the Team USA Pre-Olympic tryouts; establishing new records for victories and strikeouts in a single season; establishing new records for home runs and RBI's at Howard College; leading the nation in homers with 26 and RBI's with 90; being nominated for the Dick Howser Trophy. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/baseballbluebook/support

Many readers have no doubt watched “Perry Mason” on television, either the original version or currently as re-runs. If you notice the closing credits, you will see the series was produced by Gail Patrick Jackson, a female in a maledominated industry. Not only was she an acclaimed actress, but she was the first female executive producer of a primetime television show. And, importantly, she had Alabama roots. Born Margaret Fitzpatrick in Birmingham, she graduated from Howard College (now Samford University) and remained there after graduation as acting dean of women. She completed two years of law school at the University...Article Link

The show kicks off with the normal intros but then dives into the brawl that was started between Michigan head coach, Juwan Howard, and Wisconsin head coach, Greg Gard. The Pistons had one game before the All-Star break and in a shocking development they won. The Red Wings faced off against the New York Rangers and no surprise this one went to overtime. To celebrate the two year anniversary of the podcast the boys wanted to do a fun segment with Sports Jeopardy.

Could you imagine him doing a post grad year at South Kent, playing in the back-court with Isaiah Thomas?! What was practice even like when he played JUCO at Howard College with NBA's own Jae Crowder? After transferring from Howard, the Harlem Native (known for his impeccable handles and signature spin move) faced some obstacles back in Utah. With all the articles written on him - whether it be ESPN, Salt Lake Tribune, his school paper, etc., Jiggy never spoke on why he was dismissed from the team. What really happened? Jiggy Josh opens up about his departure and how he felt during those times. He even seen things from his teammates he didn't quite agree with. He will examine how the state failed to fulfill its own moral vision, and how that failure crippled the state. At the same time he will suggest positive aspects of the e. state, focusing on its attachment to tradition, community, family, honor, and endurance. Wayne Flynt has lived in Alabama most of his life, growing up in Birmingham, Dothan and Anniston. He holds degrees from Samford University (formerly Howard College) and Florida State University. Flynt is Professor Emeritus, having served as chairman of the History Department at Auburn University. He is the author of eleven books, including Alabama in the Twentieth Century and the Pulitzer Prize‐nominated Poor but Proud: Alabama’s Poor Whites. He is co‐author of Alabama: A History of a Deep South State, which also was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize. He also serves as the editor‐in‐chief of the o nline Encyclopedia of Alabama.
