Hey Poddy People! This special edition of the newsletter includes the much-anticipated video podcast and the continuation of the audio podcast! We were given the opportunity to zoom record the And That's Why We Drink hosts during their current tour and book release. At this moment, the editing is done and shipped. It's not perfect and it doesn't need to be. So the length of this newsletter will be relatively short.Updates:* I started tabulating overall click-through rates from readers to read a “full review”. We have that percentage and depending on the month it ranges from 10-20%! 10% was last month because of the viral moment from Reddit. The first 12 days of this month have click-throughs at 18%. If anyone has ideas on what benchmarks are out there in these types of cases, please reply back.* Batman Unburied is trending up in search this week on GP thanks to its release on Spotify (Exclusive) and “dethroning” Joe Rogan for the #1 spot news cycle. It was tedious to sift through the hundreds of articles to find a couple of reviews, but I did it! Personal excitement: It's pretty cool to see the analytics in real-time!* Stuttering Awareness Week in SF - Our pod friend, Maya, has been doing some great work on Stuttering Awareness. Her podcast is here. On to my picks this week…Podcast: And That's Why We DrinkGenre: True Crime, ParanormalPublisher: Em Schulz, Christine SchieferAs mentioned above, we had the opportunity to interview the hosts of And That's Why We Drink, Em & Christine. About: Grab your wine and milkshakes and join us every Sunday for some chilling ghost stories and downright terrifying true crime stories. The world's a scary place. And that's why we drink! They are in the middle of a tour, book release, and recording their podcast. Taking the lead in the conversation was a friend of GP, and independent critic, Keelin, from Mentally? A Magpie. Additionally, Keelin contributed to the interview write-up for the GP Blog! Thanks, you Rockstar!Em and Christine did not disappoint. They were super fun and talkative. Made our jobs much easier. Keelin with great questions that Em and Christine commented on how they normally wouldn't get these types of questions that got them thinking. There are even fun stories on what kind of gifts they've received at meet & greets. 200 human teeth being one of them.Learnings on video podcasting: Seeing everyone's reactions and also dropping in some funny visuals was fun. Hopefully, it works.Natalie Griffin • The Game of Nerds“Overall, And That's Why We Drink delivers some dark and disturbing material in a way that is easier to comprehend and come to terms with.”Shoutout to indie podcasters & behind the mic folks. I've done video editing before, but editing the podcast, zooming windows, framing, and being mindful of the audio is a long process! Thanks, Lisa, from Metro Public Relations, for setting this up.YouTube:Subscribe to the Great Pods Channel! Enjoy and give us feedback!Podcast: Exit ScamGenre: True Crime, CryptoPublisher: Treats MediaThis recommendation came from an unexpected source—my dreams. The current Crypto crash, Dr. Strange's multiverse dreams, and a road trip with Dave Matthew from Dave Matthew's Band all played a role in it. In the end, I woke up to Exit Scam. I dropped it in a blog post if you want the long story.About: In 2018, Gerald Cotten, the founder of Canada's biggest Bitcoin exchange, died under mysterious circumstances during a honeymoon trip to India. His customers were told that the $215 million they'd deposited on the exchange was lost forever — because Gerry had forgotten to leave behind his passwords. But here's the thing: Not everyone believes he's dead. Exit Scam is about what really happened to Gerald Cotten and the fortune that disappeared with him.I looked it up on GP and started listening. It's pretty good so far! The host, Aaron Lammer comes from the podcast, Longform.Nicholas Quah • Vulture“It's kind of a dangerous world that Exit Scam gazes into, and Lammer provides a stabilizing, almost comforting presence throughout.”Just Added:Locked On Celtics - John Karalis, Locked On Podcast NetworkFather Wants Us Dead - NJ.comGhost Church - Cool Zone Media, Jamie LoftusNice To Meet You - Gen-Z Media, WonderyStay Away From Matthew MaGill - Pineapple Street StudiosStay safe, be empathetic, and be kind!Listening with you,Captain RonGreat Pods is your best friend in podcast discovery. We often make the assumption that if something is the biggest or the oldest, it should be trusted or it wouldn't have grown so large. But when it comes to cryptocurrency, this may not always be true.  Today's guest is Aaron Lammer. Aaron is the founder of Treats Media which produces original podcasts and work for clients. Original works include the critically-acclaimed mini-series Exit Scams and multiple seasons of Stoner and CoinTalk. Aaron is also the co-founder of Longform.com and host of the Longform Podcast. Show Notes: [1:16] - If you've heard about a large amount of cryptocurrency being lost, you have heard about hacking. But Aaron shares how it could be a false narrative. [2:56] - There's not as much risk when internally stealing cryptocurrency. [4:04] - Aaron tells the story of Quadriga and its founder, Gerald Cotton. [5:03] - The estimated amount of cryptocurrency lost in 2018 was $250 million. But that money scales up over time. [6:21] - The people who were brought in to help with this case found a lot of things using the only clues they had: financial records. [7:36] - People who knew Gerald Cotton were convinced by him. Bitcoin also appeared more trustworthy than newer companies. [8:39] - Why do people trust the company that has been around the longest? [9:40] - Aaron explains how Cotton simulated fake volume. [11:05] - There is a lot of discrepancy on Cotton's death, but regardless, Aaron explains how his fraud and Ponzi Scheme played out. [12:58] - When the exchange started to crash, Cotton likely feared being found out. [14:20] - For a long time, there was a lot of smoke and mirrors surrounding where the actual money was. [15:30] - There is an unaccounted for amount of money missing from the money taken by Cotton which has created doubt that he is deceased. [17:02] - Chris and Aaron discuss common themes in Ponzi Schemes. [19:24] - Just in the last week since recording this episode, there have been huge drops in cryptocurrency exchange. Aaron believes two of them are exit scams. [20:37] - Aaron shares a recent report about Afri-crypt and how he is suspicious of the figures. [22:19] - Often in Ponzi Schemes, there are inflated daily or monthly returns. [25:32] - The common theme is “otherworldly returns” that leads people down the path of falling victim to an exit scam. [26:47] - What is a safe way to invest in cryptocurrency exchange? [28:02] - There is a difference between “guaranteed” returns and returns over time. [30:20] - There is an issue with panic in cryptocurrency exchange. [31:58] - Aaron recommends going with larger companies regarding cryptocurrency and lists some red flags to look for. [33:27] - Any setting where it is obviously easy for someone to run away with tons of money is problematic. [34:39] - If you have a lot of investment in crypto, tell your partner and family how to access it in a will. [36:10] - Be careful and don't put all your eggs in one basket. If something happens to one wallet, it isn't catastrophic. [36:57] - Cryptocurrency is not necessary to invest in. It is risky. Thanks for joining us on Easy Prey. Aaron Lammer, an experienced crypto podcaster, took on a tricky task to tell the QuadrigaCX story to people who might not know about crypto but definitely can learn a thing or two from this thriller story. He walks us through what we know and don't know about QuadrigaCX and its founders, and how the centuries-old history of scams and financial fraud got a new life in crypto. But that meant the only way I was able to do that was I had to kind of do this really often depressing slice of Black life. And there’s so much more. And there’s so much beauty in the lived experiences of Black people. … There are so many stories that just never get told about Black life. One, I have a connection to being a Black person, but then being a Black person who has the benefit of a really good education, and I’ve been given some shots here and there… it feels like a duty. The Turnaround with Jesse Thorn Interviewing with Aaron Lammer To offer your own advice, call Zak @ 844-935-BEST TRANSCRIPT: ZAK: It's The Best Advice Show where every weekday, someone I like offers one morsel of advice. Ideally, something you can start practicing today. On this episode, I'm gonna talk interviewing with one of my favorite interviewers. JESSE: I'm Jesse Thorn and I'm owner of the podcast network, Maximum Fun and also among other things the host of the NPR show, Bullseye. ZAK: Jesse' gonna talk about interviewing an iconic interviewer on his podcast about interviewing. And for those of you keeping tracking at home, this is my second interview with an interviewer about interviewing. The first one was with Longform podcast host, Aaron Lammer. There's a link to that in the show notes. Ok, here's Jesse talking about an essential piece of interview advice you can try at home, even if you don't have a talk show. JESSE: Like, the thing that I think about all the time that I learned from...I did a show called The Turnaround where I interviewed famous interviewers and I just did it because I never went to journalism school or had a mentor or anything. I just was like, doing my college radio show until I was 40. And, we sort of were surprised that Larry King said yes to coming on the show. Like, basically, we just made a list of every famous we could think of, sent out one email to each of them and saw who said yes. Cause it was a low-budget show. ZAK: But you had for people that haven't heard it, you had Ira Glass, Brook Gladstone, Larry King, did you get Terry Gross? JESSE:Yeah, that was the first time I talked to Terry Gross and I was very gratified. I'm a huge fan. But Larry King I was not a huge fan of, may his rest in peace. I wasn't against him or anything, I just never had cable tv as a kid so I never saw him, you know? And I never listened to overnight talk radio. But, I went into his house and he had this big house in Beverly Hills. ZAK: Did someone answer the door or was it him? JESSE: Yes, his assistant just a really sweet, obviously, intensely competent man. His assistant offered me a bottle of water and I was like, what is this gonna be like? And he sat us down in Larry King's trophy room which was like, the trophies were like structural to the room. There were so many trophies and prizes and pictures of him with Hank Aaron or whatever and he came in and he just Larry King right away. The moment he walked in the room, I understood why he was Larry King. Cause you're like, oh, this guy is the most engaged person ever. He locked eyes on me. He was completely present with me and the question that he said he was really proud of when I asked him about this, he said, one time a pilot came on my show... LARRY: And I said when you're going down the runway do you know it's gonna take off? And he said I never think about it. Yes, it will take off but it may not stay up. An engine could go. Birds can fly into the plane. But if I'm going 160 MPH down that runway, it has to take off. Now it may take off for five feet and crash but it will lift off the ground. But he never thinks about it. JESSE: And to me, that's like the perfect question because Larry King doesn't care that it makes him look dumb or makes him look like he doesn't know about pilots. ZAK: Yeah, there's narrative in that question. JESSE: Yeah, and it's like go so much emotional content, you know? ZAK: I spend my entire life not trying to sound dumb. Trying not to sound dumb. Not trying to sound dumb. See? And so, to know that one of the keys to really engaging and asking good questions is to not worry about sounding dumb. This is the work.

Aaron Lammer (@aaronlammer) is co-host of the Longform Podcast. To offer your own advice, call Zak @ 844-935-BEST TRANSCRIPT: ZAK: I love a good question. When I listen to interviews or watch them or read them for that matter, I'm often more impressed with a move the interviewer makes than with the answer given in response. One of my favorite interviewers is Aaron Lammer. He co-hosts a podcast called Longform where he interviews writers. His questions often surprise me and therefore his interviews go in places I'm never expecting.  AARON: My advice about interviewing...I heard an interview I think on Marc Maron with Seth Rogan and he was talking about how they would prepare for the Ali G show. He was a writer on the Ali G show and he was like, we don't know what's gonna happen in one of these but there's only so many possible ways these can go and I'm just gonna play out a bunch of scenarios and we're gonna write jokes where if it goes this way...we're gonna write hundreds of jokes. They're not all gonna happen but he's gonna be armed with a bunch of these sort of forking path, choose your own adventure style. AARON: So my advice about interviewing is to kind of pre-visualize a conversation that way. Less like a list of questions and more like a forking tree of possibilities and themes. That kind of gives you the power to, like, steer the conversation but not steer the conversation too much. You're giving yourself enough forks that it can go a variety of ways and you can still have some degree of, like, preparation. And people actually...there aren't that many possibilities, even to a wide-open scenario, short of just walking in and being like, hey, what do you want to do talk about, you kind of know some places a conversation can go and I found that much more helpful than having way too many questions which is what I did as an interviewer when I was starting...was like, I'll just prepare by having hundreds and hundreds of questions and then, of course, it doesn't land on those questions or you can't side-track your brain quickly enough to pick up on them. The thing I like about the forking tree is that you don't have to refer back. You're always moving forward. If you pass a point, if you pass a question, well of course that was gonna happen, you couldn't possibly take all the forks of the tree. ZAK: Thank you for listening to my interview with an interviewer about interviewing. Aaron Lammer is co-host of the Longform podcast. If you have some advice for me, I always want to hear it. When I was invited on this 150km hike in Spain with 10 people, I didn’t know most of them. But I did a little googling ahead of time so I would get a sense of the sorts of characters I’d be stuck with for a week. One of them was Aaron Lammer, who was easy to get-to-know because he has three podcasts. One of them is on cryptocurrency, one of them is about weed, and one of them is about long-form writing. I only listened to the crypto ones and I was immediately impressed by his approach to the subject matter. What impressed me the most was his openness in his understated approach of “I don’t know anything about Crypto, but let’s figure this out as we go along by talking with other experts and funny, strange stories from the crypto world.” Note that isn’t an exact quote, but that was basically his pitch for the show. I didn’t cover it, but you might have noticed that this week, bitcoin did indeed cross that magical $10,000 mark, in fact, got to $13,000 a coin only to flash crash back down again almost to $10,000. But look, seemingly the crypto spring is upon us and I was just curious as to why, so I asked Aaron Lammer, co-host of the only crypto podcast I listen to, CoinTalk to try to find out what is behind this rally. TLDR, it’s a little bit market cycles and a little bit Facebook Libra. Sponsors: HappyCog.com/ride Wix.com/podcast Subscribe to the CoinTalk podcast!

It has elements of startup technology media world, but it also has some game theory, and some like . . . just like gambling-y stuff. And I also think that people who are like, say, investing their own time and resources in startup technology are doing a form of gambling.” 4:41 —Paul: “It’s healthier to see it as gambling; if you see startups as a business, you’re an idiot.” 8:17 — Aaron: “There are a lot of currencies in the world that are less stable than Bitcoin.” 8:53 — Aaron: “I believe really strongly in like experiencing these things…like you don’t want to get lectured about Twitter by someone who’s not on Twitter. You really have to like experience technology to get it.” 14:36 — Rich: “I think today [bitcoin] is nonsense. Eventually there has to be a dotted line to actual value, whether it be services or resources. Bitcoin is in a vacuum, as I see it today, and eventually somebody is going to want to trace that line. It leads to nothing today.  17:45— Aaron: “It could potentially be a post-national project, in the same way that many opensource software projects are post-national. The blockchain is really just the lowest layer. Once you take that idea of an immutable server that everyone can access without anyone controlling it, whether the project succeeds or fails is whatever people can build on top of that. And the first thing that they’ve built on top of it that’s truly been viral is money.” 26:16— Aaron: “Is your religion art or is your religion technology? And where will it be in a hundred years? Welcome to Ledger Cast, hosted by me, Brian Krogsgard (@ledgerstatus on twitter), and in this episode I'm joined by  special co-hosts, Jay Kang and Aaron Lammer. Ledger Cast is a cryptocurrency trading and blockchain ecosystem podcast. You can subscribe to new episodes of Ledger Cast on iTunes, on Google Play, on Stitcher, on YouTube and via RSS. The information in this podcast should not be construed as investment advice, it is purely educational material and you should always do your own research before buying. In this episode of Ledger Cast, I talk to Jay and Aaron about the state of the market with the current downtrend, investor psychology during down trends, what we're all feeling right now, and also about the US Senate hearing this week. Topics of the week The market hit lows below 6k, and we talk about how we feel about it The stock market had a large crash, do crypto and the regular market correlate? Catching the middle of a move versus trying to sell the exact top or buy the exact bottom Following bitcoin versus alt coins during down trends The US Senate held a hearing about crypto currency and ICOs, and we discuss what was said and how we felt about it. Jay and Aaron and the Coin Talk Show Aaron Lammer runs the Longform podcast -- where they interview non-fiction writers. It's one of my personal favorite interview podcasts. Jay Kang is a Vice News correspondent on HBO and a Writer at Large for the New York Times magazine. Here's a segment Jay did for Vice News on crypto: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WOUZxG1JcGI They are both super interested in crypto, and started the Coin Talk Show to translate crypto to the rest of the world. It's a really great show, and while it's appropriate for non-technical listeners, I think they are doing a great job covering the industry in general. They are really funny and great conversationalists. I was actually a guest on Coin Talk for episode one, if you want to check that out. But every episode has been good in my opinions. Be sure to subscribe to it by searching your podcast apps, or via their Medium page. Ledger Status links and information Ledger Status Learn is launching really soon, which will offer educational material, community, and more My free Telegram channel where I distribute charts and analysis that's a little more in depth than Twitter Follow @ledgerstatus on Twitter Interested in sponsoring? We'd love to talk to interested parties about sponsorship opportunities. We are open to suggestions, but are not seeking deals that include promos for ICOs, etc. But if you do something interesting in the space and want to chat, contact us. They look at his career through the lens of product management and entrepreneurship—and Aaron’s tendency to downplay success, like going on tour with Chance the Rapper.
