Have you heard of Goussainville? It's an abandoned village right next to the Charles de Gaulle airport and it has quite the unusual back story. I paid a visit with a film crew to find out more. What's actually there and why is it abandoned? Does it live up to the romanticized hype of bloggers and urban explorers? And the ultimate question: is it worth visiting? Find out all the answers to these questions in this week's episode, with special guest Lovely Lina. Australia's Covid battle has significantly worsened in the past 24 hours, as multiple states and territories respond to new cases and expanding contacts. The Northern Territory, Western Australia and Queensland have joined New South Wales in implementing restrictions as health authorities battle surging Covid cases.Four new cases connected to an infected miner in the NT has sparked a snap 48-hour lockdown in Darwin, Palmerston and Litchfield, with residents only allowed to leave their home for five reasons: to seek medical treatment, to purchase essential goods and services, for essential work, to undertake one hour of exercise or to give care.In WA, a traveller from Sydney has also tested positive for what authorities believe is the Delta variant. As a result, the state has reinstated new restrictions across the Perth and Peel areas. Meanwhile, NSW has recorded a further 30 cases, with the total number of infections in the state currently at 102. Despite this, Premier Gladys Berejiklian said larger daily figures will likely be reported in the coming days. “We do anticipate that in the next few days, case numbers are likely to increase even beyond what we have seen today,” she said.“We are seeing that people in isolation, unfortunately, would have already transmitted to all their house contacts.”Listen above as Australian Correspondent Murray Olds talks with The Weekend Collective live from Sydney's lockdown

In the works for almost four years, reporter Kevin Donovan's five-part series “Death in a Small Town” explores the death of a child and the turmoil it plunged his family into. Nathaniel McLellan was 15-months-old and acting strangely at his daycare when his parents, Rose-Anne and Kent McLellan, were summoned to take him to the hospital. What followed was a tumultuous journey of a seemingly tunnel visioned investigation, conflicting medical reports and a family's ongoing fight for justice. Kevin Donovan joins “This Matters” to discuss the story and add some personal commentary to the investigation.
May was the busiest month along the US-Mexico border since President Biden took office. Every day 6,000 illegal immigrants are flooding the border, and entire communities in Texas are being over-run by the surge. Capitol Hill correspondent Abigail Robertson was invited to visit the border as part of a congressional delegation. One representative told her that the crisis at the border is no longer just a Texas problem, immigrants are being transported throughout the US. She shares her experience on today's CBN News Daily Rundown. Another big story this week, Virginia Democrats cast their votes in the gubernatorial primary, choosing former Governor Terry McAuliffe to represent them in the November election. He'll face off against Republican nominee Glen Youngkin. and on today's episode, senior Washington correspondent Jennifer Wishon says there's more than one reason to keep an eye on this race.

The truth is out there... On this episode we diving into not only the world of the unexplained but also of the CBC Docs POV and CBC Gem world to talk about 'UFO Town' streaming on CBC Gem now... The documentary follows this UFO case that came out of West Carleton, Ontario in the early 90s when a declassified document and video emerged that appeared to show a spaceship crash-landing in a field in the area. The case went viral in a pre-YouTube and TikTok era when the X-Files was making aliens a hot pop-culture topic. The UFO case attracted tourism to West Carleton and also the attention of the hit 90s TV series, Unsolved Mysteries, coming from the U.S. to Canada to cover the case in an episode. In the doc, filmmakers go back to the scene of the crash to find out more about who started this alien frenzy and interview longtime local residents who claim they saw a lot of alien activity in the area throughout the early 90s. This case is controversial because many people believe it was an elaborate hoax that spread like wildfire, sparking government cover-up conspiracy theories. The documentary examines both sides of the story and includes interviews with a former UFO investigator (who followed the case in the 90s) as well as local residents who tell their personal UFO experiences with such conviction. For any fan of the unexplainable...this one is for you and we got to talk with producer Nick Crowe about going into this journey of the unknown...

Our Score - 8.5/10 (A-) Rotten Tomatoes - 92% IMDB - 7.5/10 Chosen By: Michael Lucas The is a top notch crime-thriller, that showcases Ben Affleck's talent as an actor and as a director. Two great performances, from Affleck and Jeremy Renner, and a tense atmosphere make this a must watch.

Our conversation was recorded across three continents and is, in places, subject to the vagaries of inter-continental wireless communications. My undergraduate degrees had a strong emphasis on child development and psycholinguistics. I also studied NZSL. This lead to a student job as a teacher aide for Deaf children, and after graduation, as a researcher in universities in New Zealand and abroad. At the Deafness, Cognition and Language Research Centre, I ran the UK stream of an international study on Theory of Mind development in deaf toddlers."

You can find the essay in question online or in your propaganda sleep pod. The Flight 93 Election September 5, 2016 by Publius Decius Mus (former Bush administration speechwriter and current senior national-security official Michael Anton) 2016 is the Flight 93 election: charge the cockpit or you die. You may die anyway. You—or the leader of your party—may make it into the cockpit and not know how to fly or land the plane. There are no guarantees. Except one: if you don’t try, death is certain. Late last month, journalist Janet Malcolm had a conversation with New Yorker writer Ian Frazier at The New Yorker Festival. Malcolm's writing has been appearing in The New Yorker — as well as in other outlets — for almost 50 years. From her first piece published in the magazine (a poem, followed by a monthly column entitled "About the House"), to the keenly descriptive, long-form investigative articles that have become her trademark, Malcolm's career trajectory can be very clearly plotted in the pages of the The New Yorker. In the recording above, Frazier, another longtime New Yorker writer, holds court with Malcolm — discussing topics such as the journalist/interviewee relationship, the impact of technology on their work, and the challenges facing young writers. The two also gave writing advice to the audience. One audience member asked, "I wrote a profile over the summer, it was my first ... Where do you start, or any advice you have, for [young] journalists?" "I used to write 'Talk of the Town' a long time ago with an older writer who was there named George Trow," said Frazier. "George would go out and take notes on an event and then he'd go back and circle the things that he really liked in his notes. And then he'd take those things and put them in order — to the thing that he liked absolutely the most." Malcolm added: "I had started by writing about design and shops ... you've just made me think about what I was doing when I was your age. I think I was writing easier subjects than profiles. I was going and looking and describing things. And I've been grateful for that apprenticeship..." Another audience member posed this question: "Do you use a computer, how has that affected your writing process?" To which Malcolm said to Frazier, "You still use a typewriter, right?" "Janet and I used to be the only two people to use manual typewriters," he replied. "I wrote a profile — I went down to get my typewriter fixed. And he was the only guy that still fixed typewriters. I wrote a profile of him. Janet wrote me a letter because she knew the guy, too." Bon Mots: Frazier on Malcolm: "Janet Malcolm describes chaos better than anybody." Malcolm on opening lines: "That's my criteria for beginnings. If they kind of peter out, you haven't got the right one." Malcolm on the real thing: "This is the beauty of this work. There are these surprises that come to us all the time. These are the gifts from actuality." Frazier on doing what you have to: "I would often be in situations where I'd be interviewing someone and they'd say, 'I really need a ride to the clinic.' Or some crisis would come up. Someone would need my car to take them somewhere. You had to judge by a case by case, but I usually did it. A lot of those cases involved giving people, like, $40. Someone described it as ATM journalism, because I was always going off to the ATM."

Welcome to another episode of The Behind The Scenes Show with Eric Fell and Shaun Stewart. This week we take a special long look at Cannes and check out the 'UP' premiere with ace correspondent Phillip Nakov! Cannes isn't only for movie premieres though, aspiring directors will go there to present their projects and try and get them funded, as was the case with Iron Sky. Finally we take a look 'Wrong Side of Town' starring WWE superstars Rob Van Dam and Batista, check it out! First off we are in Cannes for the premiere of 'UP', correspondent Phillip Nakov was AT the premiere! Its the first time an animated movie has opened the festival and its gotten pretty good reviews. Its the movie about Carl Fredricksen. He spent his entire life dreaming of exploring the globe and experiencing life to its fullest. But at age 78, life seems to have passed him by, until a twist of fate (and a persistent 8-year old Junior Wilderness Explorer named Russell) gives him a new lease on life. Next we have 'Iron Sky'. This one is a bit of an enigma because its still in pre-production without funding! But it looks HILARIOUS so we'll give it a shot! Towards the end of World War II the staff of SS officer Hans Kammler made a significant breakthrough in anti-gravity. From a secret base built in the Antarctic, the first Nazi spaceships were launched in late ‘45 to found the military base Schwarze Sonne (Black Sun) on the dark side of the Moon. This base was to build a powerful invasion fleet and return to take over the Earth once the time was right. Now it's 2018, the Nazi invasion is on its way and the world is goose-stepping towards its doom. Finally we end the episode with 'Wrong Side of Town' which is a movie that MovieSet has Exclusive access to the set. Check out all our videos of behind the scenes footage and the teaser trailer.
