We were trying to figure out what to do to celebrate Halloween on the podcast and fortuitously Dark Horse marketing reached out and asked if we had anything planned. I cooked up the idea to have an episode featuring horror movie recommendations from some of the best comics writers in the business chatting about the movies that have inspired and scared them the most, plus to promote their new books of course. Both Kyle Starks (Peacemaker Tries Hard, Sex Castle, Where Monsters Lie) and John Harris Dunning (Wiper, Summer Shadows, Ripperland) have been on the show previously but we brought in a sacrificial... I mean newbie, award winning horror writer and filmmaker David Ian McKendry (Barstow, Found, All The Creatures Were Stirring) into the fray. I don't think I've ever had this much fun hosting an episode which was honestly more like herding cats, but it was an absolute blast and a privilege to get a glimpse into how the genre has influenced them and their work. Make sure to check out their projects: Kyle's Those Not Afraid A new crime series from three-time Eisner nominee Kyle Starks for fans of true crime and murder fiction.  Two serial killers discover they are within reach of the state record for kills and enter a terrible competition to see who gets there first. Featuring amazing and stylish noir art from Patrick Piazzalunga (Monsters Are My Business) and incredible covers from the legendary Glenn Fabry (Preacher, Hellblazer). John Harris Dunning's Ripperland The year is 2188 and Jack the Ripper has returned to London. For the last century, a shattered post-Brexit England has operated as a massive Victorian theme park in exchange for American military and financial protection. But when an American mogul's grandson is killed in the heart of London, the delicate status quo is threatened. Is the killer a brilliant maniac? Americans taking advantage of their superior technology? Or the English Underground Resistance, wishing to throw off the yoke of American oppression and re-join the modern world? American Special Agent Jesse Holden and local British Police Detective Edwin Fogg must overcome their clashing ideologies in order to find the truth in the foggy streets of 22nd Century London. David Ian McKendry's Barstow At the center of the Mojave Desert, at the crossroads between hell and gone, lies Barstow. Agent Miranda Diaz is in this godforsaken land on the trail of a missing agent. He's a man she's never met, and yet her name was the only clue he left behind. Something dark . . . something demonic . . . lurks beneath this oddball town, but can Miranda unravel the mystery before all hell breaks loose? • Award-winning horror writing and filmmaking team David Ian McKendry and Rebekah McKendry team-up with Eisner-nominated artist Tyler Jenkins for this all-new comedy-horror series! NEW PATREON CryptidCreatorCornerpod Our episode sponsors From Within on Kickstarter From Within is a martial arts revenge graphic novel about a slave fighting his way through a deadly tournament where the rules shift at the whims of a tyrannical emperor. Here we go. It's finally here! Episode 54! It's huge for us, so we are absolutely delighted to do it in the company of such esteemed guests. SHE is one of the co-hosts of the Blumhouse podcast ShockWaves and the new Fangoria podcast Nightmare University while HE is one of the co-hosts of Dungeons & Dragons podcast Fear Initiative and they are BOTH co-directors of Christmas horror anthology, All The Creatures Were Stirring... it's Rebekah and David McKendry!  Their chosen film? Slugs! It's finally here! The podcast has finally come full circle with this, Slugs, the film that began it all! Yes! Over a year ago now, Andy subjected Mitch to the film after several bottles of wine and a podcast was born. Now, this horror power couple have selected it for defence. Does it need defending? Perhaps. Should you watch it? 100%.  Directed by JP Simon, who also brought us the wonderfully batshit Pieces, Slugs delivers insanity, gore and goo by the bucketload and somehow manages to become a film the belies its budget to become a riotous, urgently paced experience.  The Synopsis is as follows: The townsfolk of a rural community are dying in strange and gruesome circumstances. Following the trail of horrifically mutilated cadavers, resident health inspector Mike Brady is on the case to piece together the mystery. He soon comes to a terrifying conclusion giant slugs are breeding in the sewers beneath the town, and they're making a meal of the locals! The second film is THE HARROWING from director Jon Keeyes, featuring a rogue detective on the hunt for a demonic secret tucked deep inside an asylum.  Doc Rotten and Vanessa Thompson from Horror News Radio along with Jeff Mohr from Decades of Horror: The Classic Era share their thoughts about this week's awesome collection of streaming horror films. Gruesome Magazine Podcast - Episode 048 ALL THE CREATURES WERE STIRRING - THE HARROWING All The Creatures Were Stirring When an awkward date on Christmas Eve leads a couple into a strange theater, they're treated to a bizarre and frightening collection of Christmas stories, featuring a wide ensemble of characters doing their best to avoid the horrors of the holidays. From boring office parties and last-minute shopping to vengeful stalkers and immortal demons, there's plenty out there to fear this holiday season. "A Christmas horror anthology? I loved it. I had so much fun watching this!" - Vanessa "I liked this. I liked anthologies in general and the trouble with anthologies most of the time is that they’re uneven. … This one, at least for me, 4 out of 5 are thumbs up and the fifth one, I really liked the idea, but I wanted to see a lot more." - Jeff "It certainly is successful for what it is, what it sets out to do. I really like the tone and the feel and the execution of the interstitials, the little theater scenes. … Of course, as much Maria Olsen as you can put into your film, do it!" - Doc Director: David Ian McKendry, Rebekah McKendry Cast: Graham Skipper, Matt Long, Megan Duffy, Constance Wu Release: Currently available on SHUDDER The Harrowing Haunted by the ritualistic killing of his best friend, a vice detective determined to discover the truth goes undercover into a forensic hospital and is plunged into his own personal Hell where demons might be real. "It does a really good job at keeping you unsure as to what’s going on because you get two stories here and you have to decide who’s telling the truth and who’s not." - Vanessa "This is a really complicated character to play and … I thought Matthew Tompkins did a really good job. I was impressed with what he did." - Jeff "It’s a solid entry. It’s an impressive introduction to a new director (Jon Keeyes). It will be interesting to see what he does next." - Doc Director: Jon Keeyes Cast: Matthew Thompkins, Arnold Vosloo, Michael Ironside Release: Available on VOD and on Demand December 25, 2018 from Clay Epstein’s Film Mode Entertainment.

Now we have some catching up to do on a lot of these movies as several of them haven't  hit our area. just take them with a grain of salt, folks. It's all in fun anyway.  Once that's all said and done we move on to our reviews. We've both watched All The Creatures Were Stirring and discuss that in detail. But then, people.... We talk Aquaman. BOY do we talk Aquaman. However, while we do get into it quite a bit, for the most part this is a spoiler-free review. Strap in. We wrap things up with some strong feelings about Alfonso Cuaron's Roma and Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse.   People, we've been wanting to bring you a longer show for quite some time and we brought it.
