Down in southwest Colorado at the end of a box canyon in the San Juan mountains sits Telluride. Rumor has it that the name “Telluride” actually derived from the phrase “To Hell You Ride”, which described the treacherous journey to get to this remote mountain town. Skiing started there in 1972 with a few runs emptying into town, the skiing has expanded to include some of the best and most varied skiing in the world. Supported by a newer mountain village, the town itself remains historic, quaint and awesome with restaurants, bars and hotels catering to everyone. Bob Gleason, known for his bootfitting skills honed over 40 years, has been skiing, living and working in Telluride for 27 years. Last year Bob skied over 3.1 Million vertical in all conditions - he knows the mountain and the area very well. Ogden, Utah - From the 1930's to the 1950's Henry Garcia Allred detected his way through and around Two-Bit Street, putting down a number of high profile burglaries and robberies. Born in Chihuahua Mexico and ultimately migrating back to Ogden. On his off-duty time he sang in musicals, acted in plays, and was in a barbershop quartet. How does a man possess the dichotomy to track down heinous murderers on a Friday and then sing in a play on a Saturday? Well, it turns out, unbeknownst to him, that his great-great-grand nephew is doing the same thing (minus the singing). We profile renowned Detective at the time HG Allred and sit down with his family member in an interview to discuss what being raised in a polygamous colony means in terms of real-world application to policing. On top of that we explore the culture from a polygamist colony in Old Mexico to the streets of Ogden, mixing that kind of upbringing with policing, and there's a couple of laughs along the way. NOTE: Neither of the Allred's involved in the episode engage or engaged in the polygamous lifestyle, but they were raised with that background with the modern Allred leaving that lifestyle and family to make his own way. Two family members raised under similar circumstances, doing the same job, in the same town, separated by 100 years and I find that fascinating. We hope that you do too.

I've been reading Mike Allred comics pretty much since I got into comics, he's as classic to me as ska and ska/punk. He's a guy that makes me still love superhero comics, while bringing his indie idealism into the fold. Kinda like a lot of these bands. Kill Lincoln and Bite Me Bambi are taking that ska/punk sound and totally elevating it! And there's also great tracks from Shandon, King Kong 4, the Skajects, and Smoke Like a Fish rounding out this episode like Laura Allred's colors round out Mike's line work! And that Rude Boy George track? It can't be a tribute to the Allreds and "Madman" with out a bit of Bowie! (Also, that songs from the upcoming charity album "Block Buster : a Tribute to Glam Rock" Go pre-order it!) 00:00 - Shandon ft. Mr. T-Bone - Wrong Note (Back on Board '16) 02:47 - Kill Lincoln - Greetings from Inner Space (Can't Complain '20) 05:50 - Bite Me Bambi - This Love is Dead (Hurry Up and Wait '20) 09:32 - King Kong 4 - Going a bit Mad in Our Own Way (There's Not Much You or I Can do About It '17) 12:07 - the Skajects - Taken from the Start (Taken from the Start '20) 15:38 - Smoke Like a Fish - Ready of Not (Smoke Like a Fish '02) 18:35 - Rude Boy George - Moonage Daydream (Block Buster: a Tribute to Glam Rock '20) Visit the website at http://www.23Ska.com to find links to band websites and songs featured in this episode. A lot of fun stuff here this episode, we call TONY STARK to see how he is doing, but the corporate synergy just ain't there like we thought. But moving on...we got casting news for BLACK ADAM! Aldis Hodge (INVISIBLE MAN, STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON) is HAWKMAN! Finally! This is great news and continues the hype for the DC FILMS train we been on of late! Jumping to the other side, MISS MARVEL has been cast as well! Young, unknown Iman Vellani is Kamala Khan! We are moving forward friends! But keep wearing them masks...Finally, we smell some floppies! 1st up is X-RAY ROBOT from the Allreds! Check out their THREADLESS STORE here. Anyway, so much fun, like comic books should be! Then we go all-in on THREE JOKERS book two. GEOFF JOHNS, JASON FABOK and BRAD ANDERSON continue to create a modern classic. Book two throws horror, psychological thriller, a bit of romance and heartbreak, and still throws some curveballs! Suffice it to say, we love this book. Episode #2 Professor Charles “Chuck” Coletta lends his pop culture expertise to a discussion of one of the most popular and influential comic strips of all time, Chester Gould's Plainclothes Detective Dick Tracy. While Chuck & Frank give an historical overview, the emphasis is on the character's stories since the 1990 Disney/Buena Vista Pictures film, including The Complete True Hearts and Tommy Guns Trilogy by John Moore & Kyle Baker, Dick Tracy: Dead or Alive by The Allreds & Rich Tommaso, and Dick Tracy Forever by Michael Avon Oeming. [paypal-donation] We're continuing our conversation with Anne Wilde. She's a modern-day polygamy expert. In this next conversation we'll talk about the FLDS Church. Many of you are probably familiar with them and their prophet Warren Jeffs who is currently serving time in a Texas prison. We'll also talk about another group called Centennial Park. These two groups: FLDS-Centennial Park are closely related and are actually neighbors in their community. Anne: Centennial Park, they now have about 2,000 members, they separated from the other main [group]—they weren't even called FLDS until after Centennial Park separated. So that's why they don't like to say, “oh we separated from the FLDS,” because it wasn't even called the FLDS at the time they separated, but technically you get the picture. GT: Ok, so Centennial Park really was the one that came out and FLDS separated from them? Anne: Well that's what Centennial Park might say, then FLDS would say the other. It's whoever you're talking to. In other words, they separated. Two of the members of the priesthood council in Colorado City started the priesthood council that became Centennial Park. Many of them started a new community another mile or two south there in Arizona, and many of the Centennial Park people had homes in Colorado City/Hilldale, so they stayed there. They are there to this day but they are considered the Centennial Park group. Did you know there is quite some animosity between these groups? I have no idea what the population is of the followers of Warren Jeffs or even those that live in the town. I guess you could find out what the population is in town by talking to the mayors of Colorado City and then the mayor of Hilldale, but it's just really in a sad state of affairs. GT: Ok, so just ballpark. Do you think it's one half of what it used to be? Anne: I couldn't even begin to tell you. I did read an article in the paper. They interviewed one of the former members of Warren Jeffs group and she said that she felt there were more members ex-FLDS than there were followers of Warren Jeffs oe FLDS. GT: Have they joined with other groups like Centennial Park? Anne: No. Oh no, they will not join the Centennial Park, unless it's a very rare occasion. Centennial Park has been there to help their teenagers. They've offered their homes, opened them up if they needed a place to stay, but to followers of Warren, that's the enemy because they broke away from, in their idea, from their priesthood so they don't have priesthood. They are apostates. They consider Centennial Park, “the enemy”, whereas Centennial Park has opened up their homes if they would take advantage of it. We'll also talk about black polygamists. Is there such a thing? GT: Ok, I've also heard regarding the FLDS and let's throw the AUB in that and Centennial Park in there as well, we have the 1978 revelation of opening the priesthood to all male members of the church. Is it true that the FLDS don't recognize that revelation? They still believe a lot of the old Curse of Cain, Curse of Ham doctrines? Anne: That's a tough question to answer for some other group. I can't answer for FLDS or Allreds. I think generally speaking, this is really general, fundamentalist Mormons do not believe that the time has come for the black race to receive the priesthood... Don't forget to check out our conversation about the AUB group. Check out our conversation….. https://youtu.be/KkDZ4jNm1ho [paypal-donation]

A bit out of order, Monday's Marvel is Silver Surfer 6 (or 200) by Dan Slott, Mike Allred, and Laura Allred, from Marvel Comics. Slott and the Allreds have been writing a very different kind of Silver Surfer story, and @TwoPlai offers analysis of how the epic drama of Surfer retains its high stakes when the story is "domesticated" by the new relationships Norrin Rad has with earth, Dawn Greenwood, and his newfound cultural attachments. But the focus of analysis is how those stakes are elevated even in scenes of talking heads between to normal ol' human characters. Let's dig deep.
