Where do I start as to first thank everyone listening to the Faqs project in 2025. Today's Pod I talk about not only the Comics that moved me for 2025, but also some of the news stories that moved the needle on the industry. Creator owned comics may have not seen as much trickle down dollar wise as their mainstream predecessors, but there were many great stories to choose from whether you frequent Image, Boom, Mad Cave, Oni Press, Dark Horse, or even Kickstarter Indies. There are many standouts that I know I may have missed a few and they are substantial. There was so much to choose from as we look forward to 2026 as you take those meaningful trips to your local comic store and not just treat the comics as a collectable but read and enjoy these stories.Thank you from the Faqs ProjectSupport this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/the-faqs-project-hosted-by-james-grandmaster-faqs-boyce/donations

Recorded live from the floor of New York Comic Con, this episode of The Comic Source features Jace in conversation with artist and co-creator Pablo Raimondi about his work on Ghost Box, the acclaimed ComiXology Originals series written by Mike Carey. Raimondi explains how the story centers on an ancient artifact capable of capturing the souls of the dead, allowing ghosts from across time to inhabit its current owner—offering him the chance to design a wildly diverse and visually stunning world. He discusses collaborating with colorist José Villarubia to create the book's spectral atmosphere and the balance between its sweeping fantasy elements and its deeply human core focused on family and emotion. With the Mad Cave print edition arriving November 18 — including an exclusive ten-page epilogue — Raimondi encourages listeners to experience what he calls some of Carey's best fantasy writing paired with his own most varied and expressive artwork yet.

[rating: 2.5/5] DISCUSSION BATMAN AND ETRIGAN Etrigan first appeared in The Demon #1 (September 1972) and was created by Jack Kirby. He created him at the behest of DC, who saw it as likely to be more commercially successful than the Fourth World and cancelled New Gods and Forever People to facilitate work on the new title. According to Evanier, Kirby had no interest in horror comics, but created Mark Etrigan in response to DC's demand for a horror character. Kirby was annoyed that Etrigan's popularity forced him to abandon the Fourth World titles before he was done with them. Etrigan returned for a four-issue miniseries in 1987, written and illustrated by Matt Wagner. Alan Grant followed this with an Etrigan feature in Action Comics Weekly #636-641 and a second ongoing title in 1990. The 1990 series lasted 58 issues, two Annuals and one #0 issue. Garth Ennis took over the title beginning with issue #40. Ennis' run included the first appearance of his character Hitman. This series was followed by a miniseries, Driven Out. Following this, John Byrne's Blood of the Demon lasted 17 issues, and ignored much of the continuity that took place after Kirby's initial run. While his first monthly comic book series was short-lived, and his second was canceled after five years, Etrigan remains a popular supporting character with occasional additional miniseries. Series in which Etrigan has appeared include Alan Moore's Swamp Thing, Neil Gaiman's The Sandman, Kevin Smith's Green Arrow and Batman: The Widening Gyre, Garth Ennis's Hitman, and Cosmic Odyssey by Jim Starlin and Mike Mignola. Comics writer Mark Russell joins me for a wide-ranging conversation about his brand-new Mad Cave series spotlighting Racer X from Speed Racer. This isn't just high-octane racing—it's a crime-noir thriller that digs deep into the ex-racer's mysterious past and explores how he became the legendary masked driver. Mark shares how he blended the danger of the track with the grit of noir storytelling to reimagine one of anime's most iconic characters. We also preview his upcoming collaboration with Mike and Laura Allred on Wonder Woman Golden Age, where Russell puts his spin on Diana's earliest stories through a 1985 crisis alternate earth  lens, paired with the Allreds' unmistakable pop-art visuals.Along the way, Mark and I revisit highlights from his past work: the biting satire of his AHOY comedy comics (Second Coming, My Bad, Billionaire Island), his sharp reinterpretations of Hanna-Barbera icons (The Flintstones, Snagglepuss Chronicles), and his heartfelt take on DC's Wonder Twins. Plus, he teases a bold new sci-fi anthology series coming from Mad Cave Studios—Vanishing Point.
