“I had to watch it 3 or 4 times to finally get there…” Ahhh, the 80's. A time when people could actually afford to live, back when Taco Bell was both super cheap and equally delicious, horror movies were genuinely scary and often boasted incredibly “special” special effects, and terrified parents everywhere were completely “freaking the motherfrickin' frick out” over heavy metal and the ensuing “Satanic Panic” that followed. (Remember, we're talking about the 80's here…) “I kinda feel like Satan probably listens to Air Supply nonstop…or Gino Vanelli…” Not to worry though, because Tipper Gore was on the case, going out of her way to ensure that the future prosperity of heavy metal would be secure forever with the PMRC seal of approval (PARENTAL ADVISORY – EXPLICIT CONTENT) plastered on the cover of everything that would be deemed essential listening. Thanks to the diligent efforts and painstaking research of Tipper Gore and her Parents Music Resource Center, the PMRC lovingly crafted “The Filthy Fifteen” for American parents to ensure that their children would only be exposed to the finest audio artistry the heavy metal genre (and somehow, also Satan) had to offer. One of the bands included on that fateful list were the founders of black metal, VENOM (ironically, rated “O” … for “Obviously” …as in “Obviously, your kids should be listening to this!”). Hailing from probably the fanciest, most upper crust sounding city in all of England, Newcastle upon Tyne's 3-piece of evil VENOM came blasting out of the gates of hell with what would become the foundation for the black metal genre that would begin its ascent into heavy metal culture around the same time as thrash metal in the early 80's, with a sound combining the rawness of Motorhead, the darkness of Sabbath, and the speed of thrash with an imagery reminiscent of KISS if they were actually satanists. If Black Sabbath are ground zero for the formation of heavy metal as we know it, then VENOM is no doubt the Black Sabbath of the black metal genre. With a dark, detached creepiness that sounds like something recorded in an underground mausoleum, VENOM are the originators of extreme metal and were out in front, scaring the hell out of parents everywhere and delighting young and impressionable metalheads the world over. Happy Halloween everyone!!! It's time to celebrate spooky season the way we did back in the 80's, by going through your kids trick-or-treat plunder and picking out all of that “good candy”. On this episode, my pastor, whom I call Wit, tackles one of the biggest FAQs I've received over the last two years—the issue of whether modern Christian women should physically cover their heads, especially while in corporate worship. As always, he looks to Scripture as his guide and does a great job of addressing this sometimes contentious issue with clarity and compassion. We also talk about a biblical argument for the confidence that babies who die in the womb or very small children who die before they are able to comprehend the gospel are granted eternal life with Christ in heaven. As someone who has experienced four miscarriages, I found Wit's explanation of his conviction in the mercy of God in this area to be well-expressed and comforting. Whatever your stance on either topic, I know you'll be edified and encouraged to dig deep into God's Word for Truth. Despite being born without the lower half of his left leg, it didn't really occur to Don Elgin or his parents that he had a 'disability' until he was in high school. In fact, when he told his parents about a thing called the Paralympics - a big event called for people with disabilities - his dad told him in no uncertain terms that he didn't have one. Well three Paralympics, four World Championships and one Commonwealth Games later, we catch up with the one-legged bloke who doesn't have a disability. It can't only be ME who's felt exhausted by the constant need to create content, right? We all know it's something we 'need' to do & 'should' do - to grow our business, create trust with our audience, blah blah blah. But what happens when you feel BLAH about creating content? Whaddya do you do when you're on the edge of "I just don't wanna anymore"? It's a reality for anyone marketing their business. Because sometimes it's incredibly hard to stay motivated and keep going. This is why I invited Linda Perry to speak with us on today's episode of Content Creation Made Easy. Linda not only has a background as a former attorney, copywriter, and coach for over a decade, but her expertise with the "Why Assessment" will help us identify what motivates EACH of us… As a mindset coach & business strategist, Linda sheds light on the 9 different motivational types. What she teaches today helps you lean into yours and positively affect how you approach your marketing. "Hey guys, I've been working on tracks for a potential solo album and came up with this idea. Whaddya think?!" "Well, Freddie wrote a cat song, Rog' is on about cars again, and I don't really have anything that I'm super pumped about, so I guess we could try it........" said John. Probably. Well, maybe. Actually, almost certainly not. But it's a strange one to include on a Queen album and Kev and Randy were pretty much on exactly the same page with this one! If Randy were to title this episode, he'd probably call it "I can live without you" or possibly "Why can't we live without you? I need more! Gimme more!"Today's episode looks at another track from Innuendo that was originally intended to be a Brian May solo song, "I Can't Live With You"NOTE: Skip forward to 14:22 if wanna get straight into the manifestations and wheel spin. The music at the end of the episode is a work in progress by the Cardinal titled "Drumming for Jesus"!If you want to hear The War and Treaty (and you really ought to), check this out: https://youtu.be/k4blAHy2lUkAlso, go check out our merch store, here! https://tinyurl.com/2e23nkk6Thanks to everyone who tuned in to the last episode and left us some comments on Twitter, Facebook, and Discord! On this episode, we're trying something a little different by doing a podcast version of the Q&A I do every week on my social media. I tackle serious questions (like how to turn a bad day around when you've lost your cool) as well as lighthearted ones (could either of our sets of twins fools us by switching places??). I'd love to hear your thoughts and whether you'd like to see this as a regular installment of the podcast. Enjoy! Whaddya know? There's a forest here! Our study of the Bible can become very atomized - fragmented. We can easily focus on one verse, or even a single phrase, and miss the forest for the trees. From time to time it's good to be reminded that there are colossal issues and cosmic timelines under consideration in the Scriptures. Jim will do that for us in a series called, New Testament Insights. And we'll start at the beginning, in Matthew's Gospel. Listen to Right Start Radio every Monday through Friday on WCVX 1160AM (Cincinnati, OH) at 9:30am, WHKC 91.5FM (Columbus, OH) at 5:00pm, WRFD 880AM (Columbus, OH) at 9:00am. Right Start can also be heard on One Christian Radio 107.7FM & 87.6FM in New Plymouth, New Zealand. You can purchase a copy of this message, unsegmented for broadcasting and in its entirety, for $7 on a single CD by calling +1 (800) 984-2313, and of course you can always listen online or download the message for free.
