Season 5 Episode #1 Anna Maria Didio is coming from Philadelphia, PA (inform, inspire, & transform)You can find Anna via her website: amdidio.comAbout our guest: When Anna decided to start a family, she was unprepared for the journey ahead. Years of infertility struggles were isolating and sent her into depression. After two miscarriages, Anna and her husband Richard had a beautiful baby girl. Realizing they wanted to expand their family they began researching ways to do so… but adding to their family seemed impossible. Until… they found themselves at an orphanage in Mexico, meeting a beautiful six-year-old girl. They thought they found the missing piece to their family puzzle but were unprepared for the trauma their newly adopted daughter's experience in losing her culture, language, food and everything else that had been essential in her life. Anna knew she had something to say about her family's adoption journey so upon retiring from an incredible career as a Human Resource Consultant, Anna sat down at her desk and started writing. It began with a memoir, Love at the Border and has blossomed into writing children's books with the mission of encouraging adoptive parents and all blended families to acknowledge the trauma, various unknown challenges and to provide hope in moving forward as a thriving family. Anna, thanks for sharing your many gifts with the world, for having the courage to share your story, and for taking the time to capture them on paper with the hope of inspiring families all over the world. “My message to parents is this is okay. These things will work out over time. This is going to happen. This is not personal. That's not a personal attack on your cooking or anything. These are messages. These are ways in which the child perhaps needs to assert herself or communicate her initial reluctance.... (Today) she's a college graduate. She has a wonderful job, and she's a productive member of this community. She's loving and caring. All of these things took time, but these were the hurdles that we were seeing and not reacting very well to.” Hi Neighbor, Today, it's my pleasure to introduce you to my neighbor from Philadelphia, Anna Maria DiDio. We often hear about adoption from the adoptive parent's point of view. Rarely do we get to step into the mind of a child and learn what the experience is for them. Once the actual adoption process is finalized, it's easy to negate all the emotions the child experiences. And while adoption is beautiful, the child often struggles through trauma, separation, and loss. Before children can even explore adjusting to this new life, their emotions around adoption deserve our attention. This author spotlight is on Anna Maria DiDio, MSW. Ana Maria is a writer, speaker, women's advocate, adoption life coach, and mother. Using her own experience, Anna Maria started journaling her adoption adventure to Mexico and writing a memoir and children's book about adoption and blended families. Her book Many People to Love encourages readers to explore what children think and feel about their new family and the family they may have left behind. A sensitive and powerful book that focuses on children's emotions and learning a new culture without losing their identity. Throughout the conversation, we discuss the untold stories of adoption and blended families. Anna Maria shares why it's important to listen to children's voices about their adoption, how to help them process their unresolved emotions and issues, and how to guide and support them on this new journey. She also talks about what led her to adopt, her family's challenges, and her advice to parents considering adoption.Learn more about Anna Maria DiDio>> https://www.amdidio.com/ Grab the book Many People to Love by Anna Maria DiDio, illustrated by Tatiana Lobanova>> https://amzn.to/3oeW6oz Connect with Anna Maria DiDio on:>> Instagram: https://instagram.com/amdidio>> Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/anna.m.didio Watch the full video interview with Anna Maria DiDio>> https://www.facebook.com/AidynsBooks/videos/1201865670649421/ Free gift

My guest this episode is Anna Maria DiDio. Anna Maria decided to write children's books from the point of view of the child. Expressing the pain of separation and loss is an important part of what adopted children need to do. However, many times, it's not something that adoptive parents are able to hear. With her L.I.F.E.* series of children's books, Anna Maria focuses on what children of all blended family types are thinking and feeling as they acclimate to their new families.Anna Marie's Link To Her Book : https://www.amazon.com/Many-People-Love-L-I-F-stepchildren-ebook/dp/B09V1JLW1V/refAlso, you can get a copy of Stan's book FearLESS Parenting at: https://tinyurl.com/FearLESSly-Parenting. Anna Maria DiDio is an international adoption mom whose best intentions and plans couldn't have prepared her fully for the challenges of a cross-border adoption. When we think of international adoptions, we often picture a waif of a child who is unloved and under-nourished with haunting and haunted eyes. That's not necessarily the case as today's guest found out when she and her husband adopted a young child from Mexico. In this episode Anna Maria is candid about the challenges faced by her, her husband, their biological daughter and their adopted daughter as they worked to create a family and find their path forward as a family. Anna Maria's chronicles were adapted into a book Love at the Border, An Adoption Adventure that will reassure other adopting families that their struggles are not unusual, and that they will come out the other end. Anna Maria also writes children's books which feature stories about adoption, foster care, stepchildren, and all blended families from the point of view of the child. As grandparents we Boomers can play as important a role in the lives of adopted children as we do in the lives of our biological grands. Episode 269 - Conversation with Anna Maria DiDio on Adoption 0522 Youtube link: https://youtu.be/tHQQLtdmBpY About Anna Maria When my husband and I began our adoption journey over twenty years ago, we had no idea of what was in store for us. The myth of adoption had us hooked and after the pain and isolation of infertility, we were willing to give it a try. The journey took us to an orphanage in Mexico where we met an adorable and precocious six-year-old girl. Once in the U.S., her pain at being separated from everything she knew and loved prompted my writing and I began to journal our experience. Many years later, I finished my memoir, Love at the Border, An Adoption Adventure. Now, reflecting on how unprepared we were for the emotional tumult of adoption, I decided to write children's books from the point of view of the child. Expressing the pain of separation and loss is an important part of what adopted children need to do. However, many times, it's not something that adoptive parents are able to hear. With my L.I.F.E.* series of children's books, I want to focus on what children of all blended family types are thinking and feeling as they acclimate to their new families. Today is Easter Sunday! Which means that Vacation Kris is coming to a close as we wrap up the spring break. We had all 3 kids over at the house most of the week. Entertaining all the boys with bowling and playing pool. And Kris took all 3 boys all by himself out to dinner at ShoGuns restaurant. Where the boys thought it would be funny to have Kris pretend it was his birthday so he could wear the fun birthday hat and get free ice cream. Speaking of kids, later we are joined by Anna Maria DiDio. An adoptive mother and was inspired to write her memoir, Love at the Border, An Adoption Adventure after her own family journey to Mexico. Now her L.I.F.E.* Adventures children's books feature stories about adoption, foster care, stepchildren, and all blended families from the point of view of the child.
