Getting Kids to Listen, Happy Home, Speech Therapy, Family Connection, Communication with Kids, Coaching Are you tired of repeating yourself with your children or wonder why they don’t listen? Are you frustrated that your kids argue, whine or debate with you? Are you afraid you are doing the wrong thing to manage behavior but you are not sure what to do? Hey parents, you don’t need to stay overwhelmed, exhausted, and triggered by the fuss. In this podcast, you will find solutions to …get kids to listen better with clear communication and boundaries that benefit kids. All while enhancing your relationships! My mission is to help puzzled, busy, worried parents read their child’s behavior as communication. When we understand what they are communicating, WE start to communicate differently. This is true of children with normal language development, children in dual language homes, and children with language delay. When your Language is Playful, you use words that allow for discovery, creativity, curiosity and exploration, which empowers and encourages. Connection is born. Connected kids are courageous and listen better. Connected kids have fewer meltdowns. Listen in to learn strategies for teaching and listening so that your child feels seen and heard and you build resiliency. Hello, my name is Dinalynn Rosenbush, mom, grandma, Speech Language Pathologist of over 25 years. I’ve worked with hundreds of children with speech & language delays and personally, navigated divorce and single parenting. Through training and my own struggles, I learned to use specific language in specific ways to build connection. I learned to teach AND USE better communication. Our communication is not only our words, but it is the feeling our children have when we speak with them. Let’s create a home where exploration is welcomed, mistakes are stepping stones, and practice is expected. Your kids know you are on their team. And, eventually, they will join your team! Because, what works for speech and language disabled children, simply works! I believe all parents should have access to these skills, not just specialists. It is my hope to give small nuggets of information in each episode to build your communication toolbox. So, if you are ready to build deep, meaningful connection AND create a more peaceful, productive and happy home. Listen in! Let’s interrupt the way you have been parenting. so that you CAN BECOME THE PARENT you WANT to be. I’m glad you are here! Dinalynn CONTACT: hello@thelanguageofplay.com

Hey Friends~  Speech confidence is important for adults and kids.   Whether you are speaking in public or saying your name in front of a class, we all want to speak with confidence and certainly that what we intend to say is what will come out.  Fluency is one area of speech and language development. Many, many kids stutter when they are rapidly expanding their vocabulary and language skills.  Many parents come to me and ask - what do I do?  Does my child stutter?   Today's guest discusses fluency issues from a personal perspective.   So whether you have a toddler with a developmental stutter  or a teen who has been diagnosed with a fluency issue, this episode is for you!    Always cheering you on!  Dinalynn CONTACT the Host, Dinalynn:  hello@thelanguageofplay.com   ABOUT THE GUEST:   Jason Heffler is an author whose stories help young readers overcome speech disorders and fears around speaking. Drawing from his own childhood experiences growing up with and getting bullied for a stutter, he writes uplifting tales that build confidence in kids who lack self-esteem. His book 'Tongue Tied' is a resource to illustrate how speech issues do not define children. Doctors, parents and people who stutter have connected with the book's unique message: that they do not need to be "fixed." Instead of chasing a cure, they've shared how liberating it is to embrace the truth that their voice—exactly as it is—can carry them through a life filled with all the same possibilities as others. Hey Friends~  We experience play with our children in a variety of ways. One of those ways is Free Play.  Free Play is completely imaginative and it is entirely directed by the child. Another way we play is Structured Play is when we use play to help our children go in the direction we want them to go. That may be learning, movement, practice, or anything really.  In Structured Play, we have an INTENTION for our kids. That is why sometimes people call it Intentional Play. Kids need both to develop well!  When we don't provide enough play, our kids suffer.  Today's Guest tears apart some of the issues that are happening and what we can do about it for our children.   Get out your Pen & Paper, or whatever you use to take notes, because you will learn a lot in this episode!  Always cheering you on!  Dinalynn CONTACT the Host, Dinalynn:  hello@thelanguageofplay.com   ABOUT THE GUEST:   Leroy Slanzi is an experienced educator with a remarkable 25-year career in education. Always cheering you on!  Dinalynn CONTACT the Host, Dinalynn:  hello@thelanguageofplay.com     ABOUT THE GUEST:    When Bob's children Andrew Wood and Erin Katherine were young, Bob made up "Woody and Katie Stories" based on their middle names. Fast forward a few decades and Drew's son Arlo asked "Bear King" (the name he calls Bob) to tell him a "wind story." That prompted Bob to create this podcast series, drawing on the arc of the adventure books he loved as a kid and continuing the tradition of naming characters loosely on children's names. Grandsons Arlo is "Loar" and Oren is "Roen." Grandnieces Aurora, Delaney and Allessandra are featured, too. They visit neighborhoods where family members live. Before he retired from the TriMet transit agency, Bob oversaw the architectural design of the Tilikum Crossing Bridge of the People over the Willamette River. Hey Friends~  Is your child using past tense mistakes like “I maked it,” instead of “I made it” ?    Do they use present tense instead of past:  “I cook,” when it was actually this morning when they helped with breakfast?   Past tense errors are a common indicator showing a child needs some help with language development. A common mistake parents make is thinking the child will simply figure it out.  While that can be true sometimes, waiting also allows them to create habits that later need to be undone and re-learned.   If you'd like to know how to help your child with using better language NOW, listen in for 4 simple steps to make the correction easy.  Why not help your child early, along the way, as they are developing!  Always cheering you on!  Dinalynn CONTACT the Host, Dinalynn:  hello@thelanguageofplay.com RESOURCES from The Language Of Play: Sign up for my newsletter! Hey Friends~  When our kiddos are out of control, it's tempting to scream, “Stop it!!” What if? … you could look at it differently and narrate what's going on? What would that look like? Today will discuss the effect Narration has on language development as well as emotional regulation. When we narrate what is happening for our children, we give them a gift. It's a powerful tool to help with behavior and give language to the experience. And when you use this kind of tool, it helps you step back from the experience and not be so triggered!   Always cheering you on!  Dinalynn CONTACT the Host, Dinalynn:  hello@thelanguageofplay.com   Time-Sensitive Resources from The Language Of Play: ** SUMMER 2024 ONLY!   Free & Available this summer!
