On today's episode of the Cosmic Chronicles Podcast we explore H.P. Lovecraft's At The Mountains of Madness and Ridley Scott's Prometheus. At the Mountains of Madness is one of Lovecraft's most beloved and most influential works in both the horror and science fiction genres. Prometheus has many similar elements and expands on certain themes also explored in Lovecraft's work. As big fans of both works, your hosts Quinn and James take you on a journey to explore what both pieces of media have to offer, examining the themes and ideas present in each one and comparing them to one another! Dyer Expedition is a first-person, lite-horror puzzle/adventure game inspired by the short novel "At The Mountains of Madness" by Lovecraft. In this episode we will discuss making a game based on a piece of literature, cutting features, balancing story and puzzles in a story-driven game, puzzle design, 3D modeling and texturing, implementing a pixelization slider, choosing a game engine, markerting, participating in SteamNextFest, and much more. Remastered with rolling thunderstorm as ambience. ASMR soft spoken reading of Hp Lovecraft's At The Mountains of Madness. This is the complete story, presented with a thunderstorm in the background for listeners with tinnitus or who do not experience ASMR from soft spoken language alone. At the Mountains of Madness by HP Lovecraft, written in 1931. The tale was originally rejected by the magazine Weird Tales for publication, but was eventually published in 1936 when an editor picked up Lovecraft's tale for Astounding Stories. The story takes place during September 1930 where a group of wary explorers find themselves in disastrous conditions during an expedition in Antarctica. Told from the perspective of Dr. William Dyer, the tale is reflective of Lovecraft's fascination with the Antarctic continent and his unfulfilled desire for exploration. Now sit back, close your eyes, and relax as I read HP Lovecraft's At the Mountains of Madness to you. ASMR atmospheres are useful for people who have difficulty sleeping, studying, or relaxing. The peaceful sounds have been carefully created for easing tinnitus and symptoms of ptsd and anxiety. Cthulhu Fhtagn!
At The Mountains of Madness (Chapter 1): This story was featured on the cover of Astounding Stories Magazine in 1936 and was offered as a 3 issue series in the horror- sci-fi genre. In the story, Miskatonic's Dr. Dyer, a geologist, recounts the previously untold saga of what really happened to his expedition with hopes of preventing a second disaster before the University decides to embark in their footsteps. Chapter one sets up the original expedition with horrors to follow in the remaining 11 chapters. 1001 Radio Days right here at Google Podcasts FREE: https://podcasts.google.com/search/1001%20radio%20days 1001 Classic Short Stories & Tales at Google Podcasts https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9mZWVkcy5tZWdhcGhvbmUuZm0vQURMNzU3MzM0Mjg0NQ== 1001 Heroes, Legends, Histories & Mysteries at Google Podcasts: https://podcasts.google.com/search/1001%20heroes 1001 Sherlock Holmes Stories (& Tales from Arthur Conan Doyle) https://podcasts.google.com/search/1001%20sherlock%20holmes 1001 Ghost Stories & Tales of the Macabre on Spotify: https://podcasts.google.com/search/1001%20ghost%20stories 1001 Stories for the Road on Google Podcasts https://podcasts.google.com/search/1001%20stories%20for%20the%20road Enjoy 1001 Greatest Love Stories on Google Podcasts https://podcasts.google.com/search/1001%20greatest%20love%20stories 1001 History's Best Storytellers: (author interviews) on Stitcher https://www.stitcher.com/show/1001-historys-best-storytellers APPLE USERS Catch 1001 Heroes on any Apple Device here (Free): https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/1001-heroes-legends-histories-mysteries-podcast/id956154836?mt=2 Catch 1001 CLASSIC SHORT STORIES at Apple Podcast App Now: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/1001-classic-short-stories-tales/id1078098622 Catch 1001 Stories for the Road at Apple Podcast now: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/1001-stories-for-the-road/id1227478901 NEW Enjoy 1001 Greatest Love Stories on Apple Devices here: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/1001-greatest-love-stories/id1485751552 Catch 1001 RADIO DAYS now at Apple iTunes! https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/1001-radio-days/id1405045413?mt=2 NEW 1001 Ghost Stories & Tales of the Macabre is now playing at Apple Podcasts! https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/1001-ghost-stories-tales-of-the-macabre/id1516332327 NEW Enjoy 1001 History's Best Storytellers (Interviews) on Apple Devices here: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/1001-historys-best-storytellers/id1483649026 NEW Enjoy 1001 Sherlock Holmes Stories and The Best of Arthur Conan Doyle https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/1001-sherlock-holmes-stories-best-sir-arthur-conan/id1534427618 Get all of our shows at one website: https://.1001storiespodcast.com REVIEWS NEEDED . H. P. Lovecraft, Cosmic Horror, and its influence on cinemaThe popularization of H. P. Lovecraft and Cosmic horror has been sweeping horror media over the last decade. From the 90s through 00s it had almost completely disappeared from horror movies, but was taking over comics and books, keeping it alive. Even still, masters of horror like John Carpenter, Clive Barker, and David Cronenberg were keeping the genre with their creature features and body horror which were deeply influenced by H. P. Lovecraft. Indeed, Carpenters Lovecraftian influences can be see in many of his movies such as my second all time favorite The Thing (1982) which seemed a lot more like At The Mountains of Madness than Who Goes There?, the book it was based on.The 2010's have seen a sudden uptick, not just in cinema, but even in comics and books which, at one point, seemed to be Lovecraft last bastion. Cosmic Horror fandom has been taking over horror and sci-fi conventions alike, nowadays seeming to be almost as popular as Zombie Survival Horror. Indeed, even I got swept up as a writer in the craze, all three of my cosmic horror novellas getting picked up for publication for three consecutive years in a row. In the Shadow of the Mountain (2019), In The Beginning (2020), and Parabiosys (2021).With the 2020 release of Color Out Of Space, featuring Nicolas Cage, this trend shows no sign of slowing. For me, it's a good time to be a cosmic horror writer. For fandom, it's just a great time to be live.In the coming weeks, NightmareFeed will explore the Lovecraftian genre of Cosmic Horror. We'll take a look at some of the works of H. P. Lovecraft, how they've influenced the media, fandom, and even us here at Nightmare Feed. We'll look at Color Out Of Space (2020), and the tumultuous horror career of Nicolis Cage. I'll also be dropping a review of Color Out Of Space (2020), as well as recommending dozens more Lovecraftian movies, starting with my Top 5 Lovecraft Inspired Movie List.

THE DOOMED & STONED SHOW ~Season 5, Episode 52~ This has got to be one of the strangest disasterpieces of underground horror we've yet encountered. I speak of the 1977 B-movie The Demon Lover (aka The Devil Master), a central Michigan production from directors Jerry Younkins and Donald G. Jackson, who went on to be involved in no less than 40 other films (though arguably none as charmingly bad as this!). The main antagonist is Laval Blessing, leader of a coven of curious occultists who don't realize just how serious Laval is about the Craft. When he is spurned by his followers, Laval summons a hideous demon who goes on a bloody rampage, killing the former coven members one by one! The show features audio excerpts guiding the listener through its narrative, with musical interludes inspired by the film. Happy Halloween! Delve into the darkly lit world of horror literature with us! For our first episode, we discuss At The Mountains of Madness by HP Lovecraft.
This episode is a special treat. Guillermo Del Toro's script for At The Mountains of Madness is a wonderfully written horror adventure that must be discussed, so the host Jeremy Meyer sat down with returning guest Eric Ziselman to break down a movie that could have been. Put on hold due to the release of Prometheus Guillermo Del Toro felt they were too similar and set his passion project aside but what Jeremy and Eric find is a wonderful read that is worth hearing out. Writers: Guillermo Del Toro and Matthew Robbins. Logline: In the 1930's an expedition to Antarctica goes awry when the team stumbles upon an ancient mystery lost to time. As always be sure to follow the show on Twitter @shelvedpodcast. You can email the show at shelvedfilmpodcast@gmail.com. Be sure to leave an iTunes review to help the show!

Turns out, ancient aliens have been on Earth all along. HP Lovecraft tells their history in his harrowing tale "At The Mountains of Madness" drawing from his Cthulhu mythos, which Aaron lays out for us. Nick gets scared and Ellen talks the movie.

Has anybody drawn a correlation between the worm creatures in "Challenge from Beyond" and the worm-like creature in "Haunter of the Dark"? Both seem to have some sort of relationship to an artifact that activates when stared into. Lovecraft's narration of the history of the Old Ones in "At the Mountains of Madness" seems to parallel his view of the history of the American colonies. The Shoggoths might stand for African slaves, then "unsavory" immigrants, etc. Is this racist subtext really present in "At The Mountains of Madness," or am I, myself, mad? Are you familiar with the Lovecraftian tales of Stephen King ("Jerusalem's Lot," "Crouch End," THE MIST? And what are your thoughts on them? How about Alan Moore's Lovecraftian work? Could you discuss how Lovecraft came to ghostwrite "The Mound" and how much Zealia Bishop contributed to it? I was wondering if you knew of any completed Sci-Fi/Lovecraftian crossover stories, if you have any familiarity with Lovecraftian comics, and if there were any favorites you could share. Are you familiar with the great adaptations of "The Call of Cthulhu" and "The Whisperer in Darkness" by the HP Lovecraft historical society? What do you think of other HPL movie adaptations? Do you think Lovecraft could have done well as a comedy writer? In "At the Mountains of Madness," it is revealed that the Elder Things created the Shoggoths as a slave race. It is also revealed that the Elder Things had a great war with the Deep Ones eons ago. However, in the story "The Shadow Over Innsmouth" the Deep Ones are said to have Shoggoths as well. Is there any explanation as to the change of ownership? Did I hear you correctly when you stated on a recent Lovecraft Geek that the protagonist of the "The Shadow Over Innsmouth" was named "Olmstead"? Has it been remarked that this name reminds us of the Olm, the European cave dwelling amphibian that retains gills all its life and is wholly aquatic? Might Robert E. Howard's Conan have been influenced by the barbarian hero Ursus in Henryk Sienkiewicz's 1896 novel "QUO VADIS"?
