On today's episode of Beau my God, host Beau Bradley (he/they), sits down with transgender activist and CEO of TRΔCE - a transition recording and community engagement mobile application for Transgender and Non-Binary folks, and their allies; and co-founder of the all volunteer non-profit, Point of Pride, Aydian Dowling (he/him) to discuss all of the things just mentioned. The pair start out by discussing TRΔCE, including what it's for, how conversations began for the app in 2016, taking about three years to conceptualize and build out the platform, and how it was conceptualized out of Aydian's need to document his own Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) journey. The conversation refocuses around the community that the app has been fostering including how the group of folks (trans, nonbinary, and allies) on the app have a general baseline understanding of where you are coming from, allowing it to be a safer space from the get go. Aydian also shares how TRΔCE is the social media equivalent to pride, or a gay club. It is a space where all folks can feel comfortable to ask questions and grow together. “TRΔCE offers: A customizable dashboard that tracks important elements of someone's transition, such as photos, voice, anniversaries, medication reminders and more.A network of fellow Trans and Non-binary folx and allies that can provide support and share experiences in a safe place, unlike current social media platforms where Trans and Non-binary folx experience hate-speech, harassment and harmful anti-lgbt advertising. An opportunity for allies to grow their allyship through thoughtful connection, and support for their Trans and Non-binary loved ones. A Trevor Project study showed that the support of just one affirming adult in the life of a Trans or Non-binary person reduces suicide attempts by 40%. “Aydian then discusses Point of Pride, a 100% trans and nonbinary run non-profit co-founded with his friend Jeff Main that provides life-changing health care access to gender diverse folks. And also shares some insight into what it has been like to become a father! Is money a place of peace in your life or does money cause a great deal of anxiety and stress? Do you have illusions when it comes to money?

Many men equate getting help with weakness and do not seek out mental health professionals. Men tend to rely on their romantic partners for emotional needs while women have separate friend relationships they also discuss stress and mental health in addition to their romantic partners. Does money allow you to experience more fun in your life?
Mike and Aydian dissect the movie, Luca. They dive into the friendship between boys, masculinity in friendship, and queer subtext in the film. Why is it that we don't see more fictional depictions of caring and platonic friendship between boys? What is it about the depiction (or lack thereof) of queerness in a mainstream film that causes the queer community to overlay gay subtext when it is not explicitly stated? Listen in and then let us know what you think.Top Take-Aways: Why is seeing a platonic and caring friendship among boys feel revolutionary? How does our own identity impact the lens through which we view media? Does the prevailing interpretation of popular film support or push back against your own identity? Last June I had the absolute pleasure of standing in the back of the room watching my husband Mike share his heart and wisdom on a panel of incredible men at the BirthFit Summit. I was so freaking proud of him. Mike shared the stage with a man who spoke about something that really touched me. This man was raised as a woman and transitioned to being a man in his early twenties. He shared that he was the only person on the panel who knew both what it was like to be perceived as female during one time of his life and male after a certain point. As a result, he had a unique perspective because he understood the experience of being a woman in our culture in a way that most other men cannot. Aydian Dowling is a transgender man, a trans activist, a speaker, an entrepreneur, a husband, a dad, and someone who is impressively fit, compassionate, and articulate. His wife, Jenillee, is an intuitive, a healer, a (MSW) social worker, a mother, a wife, an entrepreneur, and someone who is impressively empathic and transparent. Together with their son Antler, they're a family. Not everyone understands what it means to be a trans person. Not everyone thinks they're worthy of all of the things that everyone deserves. But everyone deserves to be loved and to feel a sense of belonging and to be a family. We wanted to feature the Dowlings on The Kate & Mike Show for a number of reasons, including that we really resonated with them as parents navigating being independently employed with a young child while also being committed to personal growth and awakening. It's also important to make configurations of family that challenge the status quo more visible, so the world can see that love comes in all forms and configurations and that everyone is worthy of it. Listen in to this week's episode of The Kate & Mike Show to learn: • How Aydian, the first transgender man ever to be on the cover of Men's Health or any other mainstream magazine, first realized who he was. • What Aydian understands about women that many men don't because he was raised female. • What the t-shirt that our daughter Ruby wears says that makes Mike uncomfortable and why. • The love story between Aydian and Jenilee and what baking had to do with it. • How becoming parents has challenged them and made them grow. • What's next for both of them career-wise (they were both beautifully transparent about the moment they're in right now in co-creating the future). Once you've listened in to this important episode, we'd love to hear from you. What did you learn from this episode? How can you apply that to your life and community? You can get your own copy of Do Less and still receive incredible bonuses at http://katenorthrup.com/book! Kate wants to hear from you, and you can post about your #DoLess experiences on Instagram, DM her (@katenorthrup) or email info@katenorthrup.com. Aydian is a husband and father and he loves his family fiercely. He works hard and he works out hard, at times sizing himself up against the other guys lifting at the gym. He loves life and lives it to the fullest. He takes extreme ownership in the situations he finds himself in. He believes in himself and the call he has answered. He is like any one of the outstanding men we follow and emulate. Except for one difference. One. He is a transgender man. Aydian is celebrating 10 years since he started hormone therapy and the incredible journey it set him on. Today he shares his story, wisdom and passion with me. Featuring Aydian and Jenilee DowlingThis episode is close to my heart because Aydian and Jenilee are part of the growing community I have in Eugene. It is amazing to connect with folks who see you, feel you, and can have conversations that surpass the surface, straight on to the cosmos. Jenilee and I had the pleasure of meeting at the yoga studio I currently teach at. We had an immediate connection and loved being around one another. The moments we have together and the time we've spent passes beyond time. Its moments like that, they put into perspective the prismatic layers of life. Aydian is a new friend, yet one whose fierce fire lands me right at home in my heart. The tenacity of their character and what they stand for, as they track everyday the desire to live their purpose and make their gifts visible. I want to express here that there are sacred third(s), something not defined by the way society expresses masculine or feminine straight to gender specific norms. In this episode, the gender binary is expressed through archetypes, though it is not expressed by male and female bodied specific. In short, we can express feminine and masculine archetypes regardless of gender. Do you, if nothing else. Things covered in this episode: Courting the line of divine The origin story of Jennilee and Aydian How society uses gender to define us The way we carry ourselves, how we define masculine and feminine Where the gender liminal realm can live. Hello, and welcome to a bonus episode of The Sewers of Paris! Thanks to the support of everyone on Patreon, I'm able to bring you extra episodes with guests beyond just gay men. This month, we're going beyond the Sewers with a very special guest: Aydian Dowling, the first trans man to appear on the cover of Men's Health. You might know him as the physically fit model who appeared on a special cover of Men's Health a few years ago. Aydian Dowling's made a habit of breaking barriers, refusing to back down, standing up and being seen. But he wasn't always the beaming, confident model on the cover of magazines -- there were dark periods that at times he couldn't see any way to survive. In those times, he found the inspiration to go on in some unlikely places: a soap opera he wasn't supposed to see, movies he wasn't supposed to have, and a pride parade that changed his life. Thanks to everyone who supports The Sewers of Paris with a pledge of a dollar or more a month on Patreon. If you're enjoying the show, click "Support the show on Patreon" to join the folks who make bonus episodes like this possible. Or if you can't pledge, you can still help out by leaving a review on your podcast platform of choice. You can also follow @sewersofparis on Twitter and Facebook -- I post clips of stuff we talk about and chat with listeners about the entertainment that you love. And join us for the next Sewers of Paris livestream on Saturday, April 28 at 2pm Pacific!
