Send us a textPicture this: a boxing event that promised fireworks but left us feeling like we watched a sequel that didn't quite live up to its original. We start with the much-anticipated Fulton versus Figueroa 2, which, despite the hype, was a bit of a letdown, akin to a movie sequel that should've stayed on the cutting room floor. However, Stephen Fulton's choice of attire, resembling jorts and Timberland boots, provided a comedic silver lining to an otherwise forgettable fight night. While some fans found moments to cheer, we couldn't help but commiserate with those left underwhelmed by the outcome. But just when we thought the night couldn't recover, the undercard bouts came swinging with excitement! Kumail Moton, the 18-year-old prodigy, brought the house down with his skillful performance against an older opponent, evoking memories of a playful yet fiercely competitive match. Cuello's astounding comeback from a knockdown to win by knockout against Olivo added another layer of thrill. And who could forget the spirited clash between Jesús Ramos and Jason Rosario? We couldn't resist comparing the bout to a quirky "monkey versus banana" scenario, which brought a much-needed dose of humor to the night's festivities. As the main event featuring David Benavidez and David Morel rolled around, the stakes soared higher. We dive into the controversy of the 11th round, where Morel's late punch and subsequent point deduction stirred up debates. It was a bout filled with emotional intensity and strategic mishaps, but we found moments of levity by likening the referee to Colin Jost's father. Despite the heated exchanges, the post-fight sportsmanship reminded us why we love this sport. To our listeners, thank you for your unwavering support as we continue this boxing journey together, and we invite you to share your thoughts on these thrilling matchups. Despite using ai to write a description that makes us sound smarter, as always, we will break down the best in boxing... with a sense of humor.

Every act of creation is a journey. A writer's journey can often feel like a lonely venture, and Theatre of Heels was no different for me. As I penned the edges of this story, self-doubt lurked behind every shadow, ready to pounce. These are some of the people that helped me realize Theatre of Heel's potential and took up their proverbial sword against my doubts. First off, I wanted to thank my wife, Erin. Beautiful, you make this journey possible. Hand in hand, as we weave our thread through this life, your love holds back the ever-present chaos. Thank you. You are my everything. Thank you to my fabulous beta readers, Jen Wright and Deborah Rock. Thank you for diving into the deep end of the pool in the early stages of this story. I know the water was murky then, but your input helped me clear the way. My editor Gabe Cole Novoa, Your insight into my plot, pace, and characters was truly instrumental. You helped me avoid inadvertent pitfalls that could take the story down useless paths. The words you instructed kept floating before my vision on this project, and the ones that followed, show don't tell. Words to live by. Please show Gabe support by checking his work HERE. To Pam Sandy, your generosity knows no bounds. I am honored and humbled by your belief in me and this story. Who would have thought our crazy days working in the ER would lead us to our own creative journeys? Thank you for being my friend. Jason Rosario, dude, you are the best. Whether it's talking about anime, life, our Dungeons and Dragons characters, or this story, the conversations are always lively and fun. Thank you for your belief in this story. As always, thank you to my friends and family whose support is far too encompassing to mention name by name. Please know that I love you all. Thank you, gentle reader and listener. Dr. Elizabeth Cohen, a/k/a The Divorce Doctor returns to the podcast for the third in the blockbuster series of episodes focused on mental health, divorce and trauma.  In this episode, Susan Guthrie and Dr. Elizabeth delve into the culture of toxic masculinity that has been pervasive over centuries in our world and explain the untold cost of these societal mores on men AND women and how we all can begin to change the paradigm. “Man up.”  “Be a man.”  “Shake it off, there’s nothing to cry about.”  We have all heard, and perhaps even said or thought these phrases ourselves.  They seem innocuous enough but when you delve into the culture of what it means to be a man, the huge cost, in emotional and physical health to men becomes clear.  That cost carries over into the lives of women as the men we love are unable to express their emotions and suffer the health challenges that stem from society’s unwillingness to allow men to be vulnerable.  This episode was inspired by an email from listener, Mark Whorle (THANK YOU MARK!), who wrote in asking for guidance in finding emotional support and resources for divorce that are geared toward men, or are gender neutral.  This outreach from Mark exemplifies the culture of toxic masculinity that impacts women as well as men.  Toxic masculinity feeds the patriarchy – it is a vicious cycle that we all need to break. Dr. Elizabeth and Susan explore the myriad ways that toxic masculinity pervade our lives and how it is manifested during divorce as well as how we each can start to change the conversation.  Start here, listen and be a part of the change! Join us as we conclude a three part series on vulnerability from audience feedback.Hat tip to Steph McCoy for the great topic suggestion! How To Embrace Vulnerability As Your Greatest Strength“Vulnerability is not winning or losing; it’s having the courage to show up and be seen when we have no control over the outcome. Vulnerability is not weakness; it’s our greatest measure of courage,” affirms research professor and author Brené Brown in Rising Strong.Your association with vulnerability requires a shift in awareness in order to strengthen your emotional well-being.You must accept your vulnerability if you wish to live a wholesome life. Even the smallest act of letting down your guard is a commitment to your personal growth.“When we experience a great loss or hurt that feels like ‘broken heartedness’, we now realize that our heart is not broken. It’s actually the heart’s protective shell of defences breaking open to allow us to feel all emotions fully,” writes author Loch Kelly in Shift into Freedom: The Science and Practice of Open-Hearted Awareness.Vulnerability is an act of courage because you merge with your authentic self, instead of hiding behind a facade to appease others. It is within the unknown where your greatest potential lies. Human nature is imperfect, yet the paradox is that we are whole within that sphere of imperfection. To embrace vulnerability as your greatest strength, you will need to become aware of your pain points. Retaliation leads to suffering, since you are likely to defend your pain like a wounded animal.Every person has pain thresholds. If left unchecked, they become inflamed and dominate your emotional landscape, not to mention your physical health.Suffering ensues when you focus on your sorrow, instead of appreciating the beauty and richness of your complete self.[Similarly,] …be wary of the ego and its aversion to being vulnerable. The ego likes to protect its image and vulnerability is a crack in its armour. How Vulnerability Can Be a Leadership SuperpowerGood leaders bring mentally healthy values to their teams and organizations. And that means showing weakness, at times, and facing the resulting risk of being perceived as a weak leader. But accessing that vulnerability is harder for some leaders than others.Jason Rosario, founder of The Lives of Men, discusses how mental health, vulnerability, and masculinity intersect at work. The Anxious Achiever / Season 2, Episode 5Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/allaroundgrowth)

We talk about about our "cool" heroes and interrogate if we still think they're cool or not.   This episode is heavily inspired by bell hook's book entitled, "we real cool" which shares the same name as the Gwendolyn Brooks poem. In "we real cool" bell suggests that real cool is...”defined by black males daring to self define rather than being defined by others.” Do you agree?   We also talk about how because of how Black men are positioned in media, is that level of coolness possible for all of us? Is cool available for just anyone? What does cool even mean? Tune in and then tell us what you think.   Watch this episode on our youtube channel: From We Real Cool to We Just Real | What Makes Us Enough as Black Men?   Do you have any questions for us? Writing and journaling can be a very healing, therapeutic, and self-reflective process, but sometimes it's hard just staring at 2 blank pieces of paper in your notebook. We'll get you started with Howard University English professor Kyr Mack in this masculinity and manhood journaling discussion + workshop.   This week's show is a journaling workshop and throughout the episode we talk about the power of writing down our thoughts and processing our feelings through the exercise of journaling. What's the story you tell yourself about your life? Through journaling we're able to reflect on the past, meditate on the current, and create the future.    We discuss the following prompts: What are three major emotions that you’re carrying right now? What’s one thought that has been getting the best of you lately? How has it been influencing your behavior? What are some of the earliest messages you can recall receiving about masculinity? Who were/are some of the key influences in your understanding of masculinity? How did these messages impact you? Do you still believe in these messages? Why or why not? What are you grateful for at this moment? What do you love most about yourself?   So get your pen and pad out, your phone's note app or use a word document and join us in today's workshop.    Watch this episode on our youtube channel: I Put My Lifetime in Between the Paper's Line's Journaling Workshop (YouTube)   Register to the rest of our Live Shows!   From We Real Cool to We Just Real w/ Jason Rosario - 5/21 @ 7PM EST Creativity, Imagination, & Mental Health w/ Expressions Untold - 5/26 @ 7PM EST Creating Freedom in Confinement [Virtual Support Group - Black Men Only] w/ Jarrick the Floating Yogi - 5/28 @ 6PM EST   Resources for today's episode: Kyr's Journaling Advice from This Session My Son Keeps a Daily Gratitude Journal — Maybe We All Should - Level Mag James Baldwin’s Advice on Writing Audre Lorde Questionnaire to Oneself What’s All This About Journaling? - NYTimes May is Mental Health Awareness Month

If you're experiencing bouts of exhaustion, despair, stress, or anxiety during this pandemic you are not alone. We got you. We talk about maintaining mental health and self care during this pandemic with friend of the show Dr. Justin Hopkins.   In this week's show we discuss how to address the uncertainty of living during this pandemic.  The anxiety that arises due to the fear of contracting COVID 19, navigating an uncertain job market and the strain of less physical connection with the ones we love.     As men, we're groomed to always be in control, but right now that's simply not an option. That's something to be conscious of.  So we also discuss the importance of addressing our anxieties, fears, and feelings by being mindful about what our thoughts and body is telling us.  That and a little self care can go a long way.   Register to our Live Shows!   I Put My Lifetime In Between The Paper's Line's [Discussion + Intro to Journaling Workshop] w/ Kyr Mack - 5/14 @ 7PM EST Quarantine Kuts with Eric "KleanKut" Dixon [Discussion + Virtual Shape Up Workshop] - 5/18 @ 7PM EST From We Real Cool to We Just Real w/ Jason Rosario - 5/21 @ 7PM EST Creativity, Imagination, & Mental Health w/ Expressions Untold - 5/26 @ 7PM EST Creating Freedom in Confinement [Virtual Support Group - Black Men Only] w/ Jarrick the Floating Yogi - 5/28 @ 6PM EST   Resources for today's episode:   Let’s Talk Bruh’s Rona Mental Health Survival Guide Let the Pandemic Be a Wake-Up Call — and Take Control of Your Health - Level Mag Just When We Think We're Adjusting, We're Hit By A Coronavirus Dip Day - Huff Post UK Protecting your mental health during the coronavirus pandemic - John Hopkins Stress and Coping - CDC 5 signs your coronavirus anxiety has turned serious, threatening your mental health, and what to do about it - CNN Marriage Wasn’t Built to Survive Quarantine - Level The coronavirus pandemic is pushing America into a mental-health crisis - Washington Post What One Doctor’s Suicide Taught Us - NY Times Open Collective - Affordable Therapy Options Text 'TEAM' to 741741 for free mental health support - NBA Cares Do you have any questions for us? This week we're bringing you something a little different in our weekly conversation. Ever since the #metoo movement and the uncovering of the toxic masculinity embedded in almost every layer of our society, masculinity has been up for scrutiny, and rightly so. Some men feel scared to open their mouths or have meetings with women one on one at the office. Some are questioning everything they learned about what it is to be a man to decide if they want to carry those beliefs forward or embody something different. And no matter your gender expression, this conversation affects all of us. Whether you're raising boys, you're a grown man yourself, or you're simply in relationship with men as a sister, co-worker, partner, or friend, this conversation is one we all need to be engaged in. What is a version of modern masculinity that we want to be supporting and living into? We brought Jason Rosario, founder of The Lives of Men and host and executive producer of the Yahoo original show, Dear Men, on The Kate & Mike Show to share his perspective on modern masculinity. When I was too sick on the day of the recording to be part of the interview, Mike and I both agreed it was a blessing because we knew the conversation about masculinity would be different with two men talking about their lived experience than it would be with me there. So, we tried something new and had Mike host the episode himself, and after listening to it, I knew we definitely made the right decision. Listen in to this week's podcast episode for: • An incredible piece of wisdom about what to share with our kids (and what not to) • The one thing we shouldn't do as co-parents if we want to be supportive of our kids' journeys • The critical piece that fathers bring to the table (and it isn't being around all the time as you might assume) • How to deal with your partner making more money than you (especially if you're in a heterosexual relationship and you're a man) • An updated concept of masculinity that our world very much needs After you've listened in, Mike, Jason, and I would like to know: What did this episode bring up for you? What did you learn or are you now considering differently after listening? Here's to being, raising, and/or loving great men. Living your best life is more than just a song by Lil Duval. It's a real thing. But how exactly do we get there? Yeah sure we all want to get the bag and level up, but what does that really look like? How do we become our best and most authentic self in a world that constantly tells us as Black men what we are and what we aren't?  Jason Rosario believes it's through something called: Self-Actualization This week on Let's Talk Bruh I was joined by Jason, Founder of The Lives of Men to break down what it means to become self actualized.  We talked about why it's difficult and why we may run from becoming our truest self when approached with the opportunity.  We also talk about our differing perspectives on toxic masculinity. It’s the biggest championship fight card since the resumption of the sport from the Covid 19 pandemic, as Showtime gets set the broadcast a unique “split doubleheader” Pay-per-view on Saturday. And Stephen Espinoza, President of Showtime sports, made very clear that World Champion twin brothers Jermall and Jermell Charlo were gracious and understanding to take less money because they were “wanting to bring a big event to the fans,”” Espinoza was a guest on the most recent addition of the “Big Fight Weekend” podcast and discussed further what it took to get the two dynamic champs from Houston, TX, to go along with their idea of having them both headline on the same day pay-per-view. Saturday afternoon/evening cards will have five total World Title fights in all, featuring the likes of Luis Nery, John Riel Casimero and Brandon Figueroa all battling for World Championships. However, the most intriguing fight will be 30-0, Jermall Charlo defending his WBC Middleweight Championship against previous World Title challenger Sergeiy Derevyanchenko. While the argument can be made that this will be Jermall Charlo’s toughest fight to date, our Sr. Writer for BFW, Marquis Johns, said on the podcast that this is the most dangerous fighter Derevyanchenko has been in the ring with to date also. The nightcap of fights will be culminated by twin brother Jermell Charlo, 33-1, going for the Unified 154 lb. championships against Puerto Rico’s, Jason Rosario. Jermell Charlo, the WBC Jr. Middleweight Champ, avenged the only loss of his career to get his WBC belt back with a TKO stoppage of Tony Harrison last December. Meanwhile, Rosario pulled a shocking upset the next month knocking out Julian “J-Rock” Williams to capture the WBA and IBF World title version of the Junior Middleweight belts. Also on the podcast, hear from Antoine Williams from “Greatest of All-Time Boxing Promotions” in Houston. Antoine has frequently been around the Charlos in their hometown including being at Jermall’s decision win (photo at top) in June of 2019 over Brandon Adams. Williams gives insight on what Jermall Charlo will have to do to beat the rugged Ukrainian, Derevyanchenko. Finally, Marquis and I go over the odds on both of the Charlo World Title fights and make predictions, including Rosario being a very attractive underdog against Jermell Charlo. We also preview to other world title fights taking place in Europe on Saturday. Those includes a battle between Maris Briedis of Latvia and Yuniel Dorticos for the Cruiserweight Championship of the World. That fight is being held in a TV studio in Munich, Germany. And also in England, Scotsman Josh Taylor defends his Unified Junior Welterweight (140 lb.) championship in a London TV studio in a mandatory title defense against a Thai opponent.
