Another foggy start to the day with much colder temps ahead! In the news this morning, former President Jimmy Carter died over the weekend, a Wisconsin man killed a woman in Kentucky, a plane crash in South Korea killed 179 people on board, a Colorado man attacked a news reporter, and another update on the plane crash in Kazakhstan last week. In sports, the Packers made it interesting, but lost to the Vikings yesterday, and the NFL playoff picture got a bit clearer after this weekend's games. Plus, the NHL Winter Classic is scheduled for tomorrow in Chicago, and we took a look at the upcoming College Football Bowl games. How many "lazy days" do you need in a year? The average American says they need 60…seems a bit low. Brian recapped his trip to Milwaukee this weekend to see "A Christmas Story" at the Pabst Theater along with a meet-n-greet with the film's star, Peter Billingsley. Cool story about Lowe's donating a bunch of tiny homes to areas of North Carolina still reeling from the destruction caused by Hurricane Helene. Today is National Bacon Day, so celebrate by eating all the Bacon! Maybe stop by Buffalo Wild Wings & try their Bacon Day special. 2nd Floor Sarah stopped by just after 8am to let us know what's happening in the area this week, and the world of Chess has a new scandal involving someone's jeans! In today's edition of "Bad News with Happy Music", we had stories about a goat murder, a couple of guys who died while trying to find a Sasquatch, a man with a machete in the parking lot of a Family Dollar store, and a mom who abandoned her baby to go gambling at a casino. Bo and the crew talk about National Bacon Day, Jason's weekend in Dallas, and the recent news from Mississippi State football practices in the third hour of the show live in the BankPlus Studio. The guys look at National Bacon Day and Bo talks about what he needs to complete his Tito's Bloody Mary. Jason talks about shooting basketball at the party he went to over the weekend and challenges Bo to a 1v1 game again. The guys look at Florida vs Utah and start talking about Anthony Richardson in regards to possible QB busts that have come into the league in the past. Bo and the crew talk about training kids to be long snappers and how it is the back door to playing college football. Mississippi State insider Steve Robertson joins the show on the Farm Bureau guest line talking about takeaways from the Bulldog's scrimmage, the most electric playmakers and the latest recruiting news live in the BankPlus Studio. Steve talks about the steps that Vanderbilt transfer Mike Wright has taken at backup quarterback and how his talent style compares to Will Rogers in the run game. Steve talks about Wright as being solid insurance if anything were to happen to Rogers. Bo and Steve talk about the biggest takeaways from the scrimmage and Steve mentions the reassurance the offense gave with their continuity and the loaded running back room. Steve breaks down the 5 possible running backs and mentions that Seth Davis has separated himself as different from the rest of the pack. Steve goes on to talk about the most electric player on offense and believes Tulu Griffin is #1 but Zavion Thomas could land at #1B. Steve goes on to talk about Tulu as an important slot receiver and how wide receivers coach Chad Bumphis has used his experience with route running in high school and college to help the talented receivers take the next step. Bo and Steve start talking about the offensive line and how Cole Smith is the sure-fire center for the Bulldogs. Steve talks about Cole's leadership and progression on the offensive lien and what he brings to the unit. Bo and Steve look at the biggest weakness on the offense and Steve believes the left tackle position brings up a lot of question marks but the line itself is a solid group. Steve talks about the cornerback battle settling and that depth concerns with the two upfront on defense have been settled through scrimmages and practice. Bo wants to know if Trevion Williams will have a breakout year and Steve isn't ready to go that far just yet. Steve talks about Ole Miss landing recruits recently and how Mississippi State is now turning their head more towards junior college and transfer portal candidates. Learn more about your ad choices. Welcome to December 30, 2022 on the National Day Calendar. Today we celebrate the power of ordinary ingredients. With only 24 hours left till the new year, it's time for a quick science lesson. Trust us, you'll wanna remember this. If you plan to tie one on for New Year's Eve remember that not all hangover cures are made equal. Some swear by the hair of the dog, or an over the counter remedy like Alka Seltzer, but a magical ingredient is waiting to be discovered right in your own kitchen. If you guessed baking soda you are correct. It turns out that products like Alka Seltzer contain only a few active ingredients and bicarbonate of soda is one of them. Add in some aspirin and you are totally prepared for a wicked hangover. On National Bicarbonate of Soda Day discover this mighty wonder and please celebrate responsibly. “Bringing home the bacon” is a saying that goes back to 12th century England, when married men would swear an oath that they had not argued with their spouse for a whole year and a day. Upon taking this oath they were rewarded with a side of bacon. The phrase then referred to men who were seen as exemplary citizens and husbands. This might be a good day to make a similar resolution for the coming new year, although it's much easier to simply buy bacon these days. It's true that few people can resist the smell of bacon frying up in a pan, so it's bound to lead to a harmonious home. On Bacon Day we celebrate a food that is delicious no matter who brings it home. I'm Anna Devere and I'm Marlo Anderson. Thanks for joining us as we Celebrate Every Day. It's National Bacon Day. Pictured...the ORIGINAL Bacon Bits! (Amanda, Audrey, and Angela) Happy New Year folks!
Welcome to December 30, 2021 on the National Day Calendar. Today we celebrate the power of pork and other ordinary ingredients. If you've ever made a volcano at home then you already know the magic of bicarbonate of soda. In 2017 the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry decided to make the world's largest baking soda volcano to best the record of an elementary school in the U.K. OMSI's volcano was constructed from pipes, tarps and scaffolding that was filled with 66 gallons of vinegar, along with 50 gallons of baking soda mixed with water. 3,000 people witnessed the event at the site with another 72,000 viewers watching the livestream. You may be planning your own epic celebration of New's Years Eve, but on National Bicarbonate of Soda Day, remember that baking soda also makes a good hangover cure. Most people think that the phrase “bringing home the bacon” refers to a paycheck, although actual bacon is worth cheering for as well. But it turns out that the saying goes back to 12th century England, when married men would swear an oath that they had not argued with their spouse for a whole year and a day. Upon taking this oath they were rewarded with a side of bacon. The phrase then referred to men who were seen as exemplary citizens and husbands. Another story says that the phrase came about in 1906, when boxer Joe Gans got a telegram from his mother before fighting for the world lightweight championship. Her message was simply to “bring home the bacon,” which he did, though not literally. On Bacon Day we pay tribute to a food that receives a hero's welcome, no matter who brings it home. I'm Anna Devere and I'm Marlo Anderson. Thanks for joining us as we Celebrate Every Day. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
