In hour two, freestyle music takes Jimmy, Donno, and Dan Day back to the good old days. We find out why Toronto's hockey team is called the Maple Leafs and not the Maple Leaves. Also why, pressure is on the Maple Leafs in this round against the Florida Panthers in the city of Toronto? The Lakers announced LeBron James suffered a Grade 2 MCL sprain in his left knee after colliding with the Minnesota Timberwolves' Donte DiVincenzo. What do the Miami Heat need to be successful next season? Would Heat fans be happy if Jimmy Butler's Golden State Warriors played against the Houston Rockets? The Stanley Cup Finals match-up, Dan Day would be happy in avoiding to face the Florida Panthers. Is there rust for Marlins starting pitcher Sandy Alcántara's struggles lately? Miami Hurricanes baseball is red hot, winning 9 of the past 10 games as they face a great NC State team this weekend, and the latest new Mark Light Shake. Donno and Dan Day are thrilled they're bringing the NHL Winter Classic to Loan Depot Park in Miami. The Miami Hurricanes football expectations this season are with Carson Beck as the new QB replacing recently drafted #1 overall Cam Ward, and the latest recruits, including players from the transfer portal.

A new year sets off an explosive podcast as I commence another year of sports talk. On deck: (6:35) Sending well wishes to you and yours for a prosperous, happy and healthy New Year. Which can't be said if you're Boise State, Arizona State and Oregon. The three bye teams fail to reach the semifinals in the college football playoff. Boise State played a poor game (their head coach didn't think so. Seriously?), but give credit to Penn State in thwarting the Heisman Trophy runner up Ashton Jeanty as they upset the Broncos. You had a classic finish to a not so classic game (I'll explain) as Texas shows grit and toughness to beat Arizona State in 2 OT's. As Oregon failed to show up vs. a game Ohio State team as they blew the doors off of the Ducks perfect season in the Rose Bowl. We still have another game (Notre Dame-Georgia) that was postponed last night due to the senseless act on the streets of New Orleans the night before. I'll rehash all that took place as we inch closer to the final four next Thursday and Friday. (31:20) We've reached the final week of the NFL regular season. I'll unpack the very little drama that we should expect over the weekend when it comes to playoff possibilities for Miami, Cincinnati & Atlanta. I'll share my thoughts on why Saquon Barkley should've started vs. the Giants in pursuit of the all time single season rushing record. And is this the end of Aaron Rodgers's NFL career as it could possibly be his last game vs. the Dolphins on Sunday? Will the owner bring him back? Should they just blow it up? (48:10) The hot topics in the Association over the past few days have been LeBron James turning 40, saying he can play 5-7 more years, but won't. How long will he play? Is he doing this to cement his Laker legacy? Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is your MVP of the league, said T'wolves All-Star guard Anthony Edwards. Is it too early to discuss this? Is there truth to this? What kind of year is defending MVP Nikola Jokic having to this point? I'll see which teams are hot (Cavs, Knicks, Thunder) and peek at an interesting schedule of games over the weekend. (59:35) On the ice, the NHL had their Winter Classic on New Year's Eve, which ended up being a dud. St. Louis easily beats Chicago at Wrigley Field in a 6-2 win. Meanwhile, the Rangers continue to spiral out of control. Not only are they in the midst of a four game losing streak, but they'll miss their goaltender Igor Shesterkin for at least three games with an upper body injury. Could the head coach be on his way out? I'll also peruse what else is going on in the standings and schedule over the next three days leading into next week. Let's close out this year in grand style as the latest podcast has arrived. On deck: (6:48) With 2024 winding down, I open with the latest headlines heading into the final week of the NFL season. I'll uncover the Vikings shocking season behind QB Sam Darnold as they're in control of their own destiny for the top seed in the NFC, battling the Lions for supremacy in the conference. Who'll come out with the #7 seed in the AFC between Denver, Miami and Cincinnati? What about the NFC South with Tampa Bay currently ahead of Atlanta, but the Falcons have the tiebreaker if they end up with the same record? Does Saquon Barkley break Eric Dickerson's single season rushing record? What about his former team, the Giants, winning their first home game this year but lose the chance for the #1 pick in next years' draft? The NFL is gloating about having 65 million people watch at least one minute of the two Christmas Day games on Netflix. You know I have to dump cold water on that. I'll also send my condolences to the Gumbel family as Greg passed away on Friday at the age of 78 due to cancer. (33:00) The second round of the college football playoff commences tomorrow night. I'll get into the top storylines of what to expect, from Boise and Arizona State's chances to move on after gaining first round byes. Will Ohio State exact revenge from an early season loss to Oregon? Can Penn State continue their magical run? How about the Fighting vs. Georgia? I'll have every bit of what the quarterfinals will look like and play out over the next couple of days. (50:03) Is the NBA becoming the WWE? There were a couple of brawls over the weekend with suspension handed down, which begs the question, is physical play in the Association a necessity? A trade was made between the Lakers and Nets as D'Angelo Russell heads back to Brooklyn where Dorian Finney-Smith moves west. The Sacramento Kings canned coach Mike Brown. Was it warranted? Jimmy Butler will stay put in Miami as per president Pat Riley, but what's with this competitive reconditioning phrase because of Butler's absence from the lineup. Is this the new load management? I'll check around the league for the latest as both OKC and Cleveland continue their torrid streaks in the West & East. (1:07:26) Anyone psyched for the NHL Winter Classic? It's on January 1st, correct? It is not and who is playing in the game? The league has dropped the puck on not truly showcasing its signature game as it'll be played on New Year's Eve in Chicago (Wrigley Field) where the Blackhawks will play against the Blues. How about Alexander Ovechkin? He returns from a fractured leg where he scores two goals in two games, is 25 goals away from Wayne Gretzky's all time scoring record. Is this man bionic at the age of 39? I'll see what else is happening around the ice as the New Year is on the horizon. (1:17:38) Another big MLB free agent is off the books as pitcher Corbin Burnes signs with the Arizona Diamondbacks. Did his former team, the Orioles, put up an offer? Actually what is going on in Baltimore as they haven't added anyone of note this offseason to compete with the Yankees and Red Sox in their division. Also, what's the latest with Pete Alonso? Is that Met offer of 3 years for $90 million legit? Gleyber Torres signs with the Tigers for one year. And Teoscar Hernandez re-ups with the Dodgers on a three year deal. (1:25:28) I want to shout out YOU, the followers, subscribers and fans of the podcast. Thank YOU for all of your support. Thank you of banging with me for another year, even if it's your first time, keep coming back as I have LOTS on the board for 2025 that I can't wait to share. Another foggy start to the day with much colder temps ahead! In the news this morning, former President Jimmy Carter died over the weekend, a Wisconsin man killed a woman in Kentucky, a plane crash in South Korea killed 179 people on board, a Colorado man attacked a news reporter, and another update on the plane crash in Kazakhstan last week. In sports, the Packers made it interesting, but lost to the Vikings yesterday, and the NFL playoff picture got a bit clearer after this weekend's games. Plus, the NHL Winter Classic is scheduled for tomorrow in Chicago, and we took a look at the upcoming College Football Bowl games. How many "lazy days" do you need in a year? The average American says they need 60…seems a bit low. Brian recapped his trip to Milwaukee this weekend to see "A Christmas Story" at the Pabst Theater along with a meet-n-greet with the film's star, Peter Billingsley. Maybe stop by Buffalo Wild Wings & try their Bacon Day special. 2nd Floor Sarah stopped by just after 8am to let us know what's happening in the area this week, and the world of Chess has a new scandal involving someone's jeans! In today's edition of "Bad News with Happy Music", we had stories about a goat murder, a couple of guys who died while trying to find a Sasquatch, a man with a machete in the parking lot of a Family Dollar store, and a mom who abandoned her baby to go gambling at a casino. The New Year always opens with one of our favorite productions of the year: the NHL Winter Classic. This year, the event visited the Pacific Northwest and T-Mobile Park in Seattle as the league's two newest franchises – the Vegas Golden Knights and the Seattle Kraken - met up outdoors. This is now the third year that the NHL on TNT and the team from Warner Bros. Discovery Sports have handled the production and, as usual, it was a feast for the eyes. On this episode of The SVG Podcast, we reflect on the broadcast with Lee Estroff, Director of Technical Operations at WBD Sports to get his take on what made this baseball stadium a beautiful place to broadcast a hockey game from, what advice he would give to someone working on a live sports production in a unique locale, and much more. Wrapping up another year of the podcast as I present the final episode of 2023 with all that's happening in sports. On deck: (3:03) I have to start off with saying THANK YOU to those who've listened, followed and supported me over the past year and beyond. 2024 will be an epic one! That's a promise! (3:53) With Monday being the first of the year, I'll produce and post a podcast as of right this moment. Stay tuned to my YouTube channel (link below) for any scheduling changes. (4:39) This is an enormous week if you're the Miami Dolphins. They pay a visit to Baltimore in what will be a battle for the top seed in the AFC. Can the Dolphins finally get the respect and win a big road game? There's an interesting development that took place in Denver with the benching of Russell Wilson. Is this the last time we'll see the former Super Bowl winning QB in a Broncos uniform? I'll get into the other key matchups, what to look forward to in Week 17 as we're just ten days away from the conclusion of the regular season. (29:50) The College Football Playoff is on the horizon. I'll delve into the top storylines heading into the doubleheader with Michigan-Arizona being the first game, followed by Texas-Washington in the nightcap. How much pressure is on the Wolverines to finally get to a championship game? Is Alabama playing with house money? Will Washington-Texas be a high scoring shootout? (36:19) In the Association, the Detroit Pistons made history. They broke the all time losing streak of 26 games with a loss to Brooklyn on Tuesday night. Is it possible that they could break the all time record (9-73) by the 1972-73 Philadelphia 76ers? I'll see what else is going on throughout the NBA as we're still a few weeks away from the halfway point of the season. (43:28) The NHL will have their day in the sun as they'll have their annual Winter Classic in Seattle on January 1st. Will anyone watch? Does anyone care? Plus, there was a Stanley Cup Final rematch last Saturday between the Vegas Golden Knights-Florida Panthers. Why didn't the league showcase or highlight this game? I'll have that and anything else that's happening on the ice. (49:05) MLB has had a rather ice cold offseason (despite the Juan Soto trade to the Yankees and the Dodgers signing of Shohei Ohtani & Yoshinobu Yamamoto) There have been a few transactions over the past few days (including the Yankees trading another young, promising prospect), but little to no news about top free agents Blake Snell, Cody Bellinger and Jordan Montgomery, to name a few. Then finally they discuss All Elite Wrestling, Ring of Honor's new signing post The Elite, Impact Wrestling moving to another unknown television station and then finally WWE's "shakeup" over the holidays. All that and more in a jammed show to start off 2019.
It's 2018 and the guys are back in action. The show opens with an in depth conversation about NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 12 and discuss the WWE Mixed Match Challenge. Then Blake and Mark argue about Star Wars: The Last Jedi (SPOILERS) and get into Ferdinand and Pitch Perfect 3, why Winter Finales are a thing and a listen to Oprah's speech from the Golden Globes. Welcome back to the home of sports talk to the average joe! We start off the episode with an update on the Harrisburg Stampede on the signings, and their sales on merchandise. From there we get into the Major League Baseball Hot Stove Season, we get into the Phillies keeping Aaron Nola for 7 years and $172 Million, we talk about Blake Snell probably going for similar money and length but is more questionable physically. The length of the contract is discussed and what that looks like for the last three years of the contract. Rhys Hoskins time as a member of the Phillies is brought up, and why his time with the Phils came to an end. However, we also talk about his worth to other teams and why we think he could move on to. We move into discussion of the rumored trade between the Padres and the Yankees for Juan Soto, if he will be worth the money, he was looking to command two years ago when he was traded from the Nationals to the Padres. Also, discussed is the issues within the Padres front office and clubhouse. We wrap up the discussion with talking about Shohei Ohtani and where he could potentially land. We decided that the Dodgers make the most sense after consideration of the teams who are still in the running. We discuss why the rumors of the Blue Jays selling out talent to sign him is a terrible idea for both parties. Why the Cubs are the dark horse in this and could potentially sign him. In the second half of the show we discuss this years National Hockey League Winter Classic uniforms for the Seattle Kraken and the Las Vegas Golden Knights. We talk about the history in Seattle hockey that the Kraken are pulling from and we get into why the Golden Knights uniform is a fauxback jersey similar to the Tampa Bay Rays uniform from the early 2010's. We also talk about a few uniforms from prior Winter Classics that we thought were absolute stand outs as far as overall look and being a fairly accurate depiction of a uniform from the era of hockey it was representing. We get into why most of the Flyers uniforms look exactly the same no matter what era the uniform is from. The Nashville Predators Stadium Series uniform is brough up again with how bad it was. Why hasn't a Penguins vs Flyers game hasn't happened at Beaver Stadium at Penn State University. Then we tossed around locations that would be cool for a Winter Classic or a Stadium Series game All this and so much more https://linktr.ee/Naspod Our newest sponsor is Ballsy! click the link to get a great discount on your personal grooming needs.
