The Titanic sinks again on this Whad'ya Know from Milwaukee's Pabst Theater on April 11, 1998-
And we're back! After taking the last week off, Jean returns to the show and we heard all about her holiday celebrations. We also spoke with Colin Mochrie from "Whose Line Is It Anyway" about his upcoming live shows at the Pabst Theater & the Pablo Center. Lots of horrific news this morning, including updates on the terrorist attack in New Orleans, the Cybertruck explosion at the Trump hotel in Vegas, a shooting outside a nightclub in NY, and an update on the shooting in New Lisbon. In sports, we recapped yesterday's College Football Playoff bowl games, including the wild finish between Texas & Arizona State, and we took a look ahead at the rest of the upcoming bowl schedule. Also, the NBA came down hard on the Miami Heat & the Houston Rockets for their recent on-court dust-up. The new year has begun and if you're looking for some healthier eating options, maybe some delicious watercress? Apparently, it's the most nutrient-dense veggie out there. A new "Karen of the Day" is apparently a big fan of the movie "Titanic" and also really wants to drink some water. Cool story about a kid who had to have his spokes on his bike cut after his foot got stuck in them. And check out this ref who ate a few punches during a recent kickboxing match. Dude's got an IRON jaw! During today's "Bad News with Happy Music", we had stories about a #FloridaScumbag who slammed a puppy to the floor, a #FloridaWoman who stole someone's credit cards & made a bunch of purchases, a possible Airbnb ban for Lily Phillips, and AI robots learning to do surgery by watching videos! Another foggy start to the day with much colder temps ahead! In the news this morning, former President Jimmy Carter died over the weekend, a Wisconsin man killed a woman in Kentucky, a plane crash in South Korea killed 179 people on board, a Colorado man attacked a news reporter, and another update on the plane crash in Kazakhstan last week. In sports, the Packers made it interesting, but lost to the Vikings yesterday, and the NFL playoff picture got a bit clearer after this weekend's games. Plus, the NHL Winter Classic is scheduled for tomorrow in Chicago, and we took a look at the upcoming College Football Bowl games. How many "lazy days" do you need in a year? The average American says they need 60…seems a bit low. Brian recapped his trip to Milwaukee this weekend to see "A Christmas Story" at the Pabst Theater along with a meet-n-greet with the film's star, Peter Billingsley. Cool story about Lowe's donating a bunch of tiny homes to areas of North Carolina still reeling from the destruction caused by Hurricane Helene. Today is National Bacon Day, so celebrate by eating all the Bacon! Maybe stop by Buffalo Wild Wings & try their Bacon Day special. 2nd Floor Sarah stopped by just after 8am to let us know what's happening in the area this week, and the world of Chess has a new scandal involving someone's jeans! In today's edition of "Bad News with Happy Music", we had stories about a goat murder, a couple of guys who died while trying to find a Sasquatch, a man with a machete in the parking lot of a Family Dollar store, and a mom who abandoned her baby to go gambling at a casino. Hello everyone and welcome to another edition of Interviewing the Legends I'm your host Ray Shasho. Spirit of Unicorn Music are delighted to announce a brand new album from District 97, Stay For The Ending. Featuring 10 brand new tracks, the album is the culmination of everything this Chicago-based prog rock ensemble has worked towards during their last 15 years. Formed in Autumn 2006, the band draws influences from a diverse array of musical styles, from heavy metal to avant-garde jazz. This broad appreciation of musical genres has continued to inform the band's latest work and sees them further develop their sound and songwriting to ambitious new levels: upping their game in the areas of composition, performance, arrangement, production and sonics. A friend of the band, BILL BRUFORD (KING CRIMSON, YES, GONG, BRUFORD) agrees. In response to hearing the new album, he said, “Quality, expertise and passion – ‘Stay For The Ending' is a massive piece, of which District '97 should feel justly proud.” The Autumn sees the band undertake a number of live shows in the US and Europe, including playing The Bedford in Balham, South London on Sunday 10th September. SCHANG continues “I can't wait for the music world at large to hear it both on record and on stage.” The album can be pre-ordered from Cherry Red Records here: https://www.cherryred.co.uk/product/district-97-stay-for-the-ending-cd/ PLEASE WELCOME DRUMMER/COMPOSER AND FOUNDER OF DISTRICT97 JONATHAN SCHANG AND LEAD SINGER LESLIE HUNT TO INTERVIEWING THE LEGENDS… PREORDER THE NEW ALBUM BY DISTRICT 97 entitled STAY FOR THE ENDING The album can be pre-ordered from Cherry Red Records at https://www.cherryred.co.uk/product/district-97-stay-for-the-ending-cd/ “‘Stay for the Ending' by District 97 is a brilliant album by a profound American Progressive Rock Group. Leslie Hunt's stunning vocals are haunting and enchanting, which magnify the essence of the group. The band's intricate musical styles are mind-blowing, performing frequent changes in tempo reminiscent to some of the methods used by Brit legends Gentle Giant.” Their musical styles are forthright and awe-inspiring! …By music journalist Ray Shasho FOR MORE INFORMATION ABOUT DISTRICT 97 VISIT www.district97.net official website https://www.facebook.com/District97/ Facebook https://twitter.com/District97 twitter https://www.youtube.com/user/D97Music YouTube https://www.instagram.com/district.97/?hl=en Instagram https://open.spotify.com/artist/3NAglwfZgBGcdvm7QUuhSC Spotify http://district97.bandcamp.com/ (Exclusive Music Available for Download) Bandcamp https://www.lesliehuntmusic.com/ Leslie Hunt music DISTRICT 97 TOUR 2023 08/18/2023– Martyrs', Chicago, Illinois, USA 09/2/2023– 2 Days + 1 Festival, Veruno, Italy 09/07/2023 – Das Rind, Russelsheim, Germany 09/08/-09/09/2023– Steve Rothery Band Weekend, Poppodium Boerderij, Zoetemeer, Netherlands 09/10/2023 A SUNDAY IN SEPTEMBER 2023 FESTIVAL London, UK 09/09/2023 Steve Rothery Band Weekend @ De Boerderij Zoetermeer, NL 09/08/2023 Steve Rothery Band Weekend @ De Boerderij Zoetermeer, NL 09/07/2023 Das Rind Russelsheim, DE 09/02/2023 2 Days Prog + 1 Festival Veruno, IT 08/18/2023 Martyrs' Chicago, IL 03/30/2023 Martyrs' w/Consider the Source Chicago, IL 03/10/2023 Arcada Theater w/The Winery Dogs St. Charles, IL 03/09/2023 Pabst Theater w/The Winery Dogs Milwaukee, WI 10/13/2022 Mahall's Lakewood, OH DISTRICT97 DISCOGRAPHY 2010: Hybrid Child 2010: Live at CalProg (CD-R, Download) 2012: Trouble with Machines 2012: Live at WFPK FM (CD-R, Download) 2012: Live at Rites of Spring (Download) 2014: One More Red Night (Live with John Wetton) 2015: Inside Vaults 2019: Septennial Return to ROSfest 2019: screens 2020: Two of a Kind: A Tribute to Bill Bruford & Allan Holdsworth 2021: Screenplay (Live) 2022: Many New Things 2023: Stay for the Ending Support us on PayPal!

What it's like to go from computer programming in 1975 to touring the world as Air Supply, opening for Rod Stewart, a year later? What's the best term for their music? How have they been able to ride the roller coaster of music and touring all the way to successful shows in 2019? Soaring tenor Russell Hitchcock, one of the two anchors in Air Supply, talks about all that and more in advance of a Milwaukee show (September 7th, Pabst Theater) with Eric in this EricCast.
This week’s guest is Sarah Vos of Dead Horses. The singer, guitarist, and founding member of the up-and-coming Americana/bluegrass outfit continually tours the country to play concerts at bars, theaters, festivals, amphitheaters, and everywhere in between. Prior to hitting the road yet again and before September’s Dead Horses show with The Who at Alpine Valley and headlining outing at Pabst Theater, Vos managed to squeeze enough time out of her perpetually-packed schedule to meet up with My First Band host Tyler Maas at Milwaukee Record headquarters to talk about what her modern day musical happenings, and everything that came before. Vos talked about new happenings and spending roughly 150 days a year on the road before telling Maas about growing up in Oshkosh, playing her first open mic at a religious venue in middle school, starting a high school band called Ocean View, and how the start of Dead Horses came at just the right time in her life. Along the way, the two Fox Cities expats made some pretty specific Oshkosh references, cracked a few cans of Boulevard’s Jam Band, and had some fun asides. My First Band is sponsored by Boulevard Brewing and is edited by Jared Blohm. You can listen to My First Band on iTunes, Stitcher, Spotify, and wherever else you get podcasts. Music used in this show comes courtesy of Devils Teeth (“The Junction Street Eight Tigers”) and Dead Horses (“Birds Can Write The Chorus”).

At the end of 2016, Precious Lives will shift gears. We’ll wrap up our radio series and focus on a traveling live show. The Precious Lives team will attempt to reach all corners of Milwaukee to harness diverse energies to combat the problem of gun violence. Performers will bring their stories of gun violence directly into churches, schools, offices and so on. We’ve tried this a few times already: most notably to a sold out audience at the Pabst Theater over the summer and recently at an event at the Rotary Club. We’re aiming to do 25 shows throughout 2017. For this episode, Executive Producer Brad Lichtenstein talks with a few of the performers, Khary Penebaker and Damien Smith, about their experience sharing their stories, how their experiences change based on the crowd and what they hope different audiences will gain from the live shows. If you’re interested in learning more or booking an event, please email our Engagement Director Paul Kjelland at paul@371productions.com .

Ryan Matteson is the former editor-in-chief and founder of the popular music blog Muzzle Of Bees and he's currently employed by C3 Presents, where he manages a wide-range of bands including The Mountain Goats, Bully, Toro Y Moi, The Dismemberment Plan and Strand of Oaks. Both a devout Milwaukee Brewers fan and native Wisconsinite like myself, Ryan and I discuss how he went from blogging to artist management (with a few years of public relations work for Milwaukee's renowned Pabst Theater in between), as well as his vinyl white whales. We also delve into how we both personally held the birthday cake featured on the cover of Wilco The Album, how complete luck snagged him one of the rarest Pearl Jam vinyl releases there is, the thrill of booking bands on late-night TV, and lots more! *Well... sorta. Although if you close your eyes, I think you'll be pretty well blown away. I kick myself for passing on a chance to see the super group in Vegas a few years ago when Glenn Frey was still alive. And I'm sure I'll see the Frey-less Eagles proper someday before they stop printing money performing live. But for a lot less money, you can join me in Milwaukee at the Pabst Theater this Saturday for Eaglemania. I talked to the band's founder Frank Marino about the challenges of assembling musicians who can duplicate the band's iconic vocals and intricate instrumentals.
