Today's guest deejay is Dan Haines Cohen, founder of Machine Records. Last year Machine Records celebrated 20 years of releasing new electronic/experimental music, mostly from Wales. Described as “Cardiff's number one underground electronic imprint” (Buzz Magazine), Machine was the winner of Best Label at the Welsh Music Awards in 2005 Dan also records as Stereo Minus One since 2001 and currently based in Wellington, New Zealand. As well as recent mixes and remixes, his eighth album will be released in June 2022. I met Dan on Twitter. After he turned me on to new releases from his label, I asked if he'd be interested in sharing a mix on Soundwave. Happily, he said yes. Dan's mix showcases some recent releases and includes exclusive, as-yet-unreleased tracks. Dan's mix also includes a new, never before heard remix by Cape Canaveral of Dan's 2001 track “Alarums' which features on Lodestone, as well as an exclusive track from Cape Canaveral's upcoming new release in 2022 (“Far”). Every morning this week, I've listened to Dan's mix while drinking coffee and beginning my workday. And every morning, while Dan's mix plays, a squirrel will sit on the railing of my roof deck, munching on nuts. Later, a blackbird will swoop down and peck through the succulents in their flower pots. We have a nice routine going. Join us next week when our guest deejay will be James Vella. See you then. Find Scott McKean and Best Label: Website: beerlabelsdoneright.com  // Instagram: @bestlabel_beerlabelsdoneright When it comes to getting your branding and artwork out to the public and on shelves, getting labels printed and applied are one of the exciting parts of the process. Pressure sensitive labels, along with current print technologies, have really opened up new possibilities when it comes labeling. These labels allow breweries to produce shorter runs of labels, which can reduce costs, and allow you to test your labels in the market with less up-front investment. Also, this can allow you to release smaller quantities of certain beers that you may not have considered in the past. These pressure sensitive labels and printing techniques also open the door for numerous unique styles of labels regarding colors and other special printing effects. Anything you can put in your tool belt when it comes to presenting your brand visuals is a big plus and standing out on the shelf is of high importance. On this episode, we are going to explore some great ideas and tips on how you can create unique looking labels. Scott McKean, who works for Best Label, joins us to discuss current trends and ideas for pressure sensitive labels on this episode of Branding Brews.

In this WeSpin Recipes episode, Chris Eckman comments on the "brutally tough" business of running a record label, reminds of the importance of a local market knowledge, shares the things labels look for in artists besides their music, and talks on why this industry doesn't treat artists as VIPs anymore.
