Forums "Womex" – etniskā mūzika un tīklošanās iespējas ar pasauli. Par Latvijas pieredzi, piedaloties forumā un sadarbojoties ne tikai ar Baltijas valstīm, bet arī ar kaimiņiem Ziemeļos, pārrunājam Kultūras rondo.  Par gatavošanos un līdzdalību šī gada forumā "Womex", kas šogad norisinājās Somijā, Tamperē, stāsta etnomuzikoloģe Lauma Bērza, kura veidoja latviešu etniskās mūzikas izlasi, kas bija Latvijas vizītkarte forumā, etnomūzikas grupas „Oga” mūziķe Igeta Ozoliņa, etnomūziķe un dziedātāja Liene Skrebinska, kura studē Tallinas Mūzikas un teātra akadēmijā, un mūziķe Elī Ellere, kura forumā reprezentēja tradicionālās dziedāšanas grupu "Saucējas", kā arī dažādus citu etnomūzikas projektus.

„Black Rooster Kapelye” nosaukumā liktais „melnais gailis” tas pats mūsu mūzikas folklorists Emilis Melngailis vien ir. Nesen iznākušais „Black Rooster Kapelye” albums ir stāsts par jaunākās paaudzes folkloras pētniekiem, kurus ieinteresējušas Latviešu folkloras krātuvē rodamās liecības par Latvijas etnisko daudzveidību. Otrs stāsts ir par ebreju mūziķiem, kuri ieinteresēti holokaustā iznīcināto Austrumeiropas ebreju kultūras izzināšanā. “Vos mir zaynen” jeb “Kas mēs esam” ir „Black Rooster Kapelye” izdotais mūzikas albums, kurā apvienojušies latviešu folkloras kopas “Banga” un kādreizējie “Forshpiel” ebreju mūziķi. Mēs esam, kas mēs esam. Mēs esam ebreji. Mēs ēdam beigeļus, biezpiena blinces, un kūgeli. Šo Emiļa Melngaiļa 1899. gadā pierakstīto ebreju dziesmas melodiju nomaina latgaliešu dancis un Žīdudancis, ko Melngailim uz stabules nospēlējis Alsungas tautas muzikants Nikolajs Heņķis. Iznākušajam albumam un klātpievienotajai grāmatai ir vistiešākais sakars ar komponistu un mūzikas folkloristu Emili Melngaili, arī kapelas nosaukumā  liktais „melnais gailis” tas pats Melngailis vien ir. “Black Rooster Kapelye” projektā satek kopā tik daudzi stāsti. Tos stāsta latviešu un ebreju tautas mūzikas mijiedarbes projekta “Black Rooster Kapelye” mūziķi Ilga Vālodze-Ābele, Saša Lurje un Iļja Šneiveiss. Emilis Melngailis dziesmām nepierakstīja vārdus, parasti tikai pirmo rindiņu kopā ar melodiju. “Black Rooster Kapelye” dalībniekiem nācies patapināt vārdus no līdzīgiem, Melngaiļa laikā veiktajiem folkloras pierakstiem, tāpat fantazēt, kā nošu pierakstu ietērpt tautas mūzikai raksturīgajā skanējumā. “Black Rooster Kapelye” albums un klātpievienotā grāmata ir lieliska dziesmu komentāros iepazīt ebreju tautas mūzikas īpatnības. Mani aizrauj deju niguns - bezvārdu melodiju žanrs, ko ebreji dziedājuši laikā, kad saskaņā ar Halaha – ebreju likumu – mūzikas instrumentu spēle bija aizliegta. “Black Rooster Kapelye” pagājušā gada noslēgumā veica koncerttūri, Emiļa Melngaiļa 150. jubilejas gadā dodoties uz viņa dzimtajiem Vidrižiem, uz Ludzu un Ķēdaiņiem, kur Melngailis veica daudzskaitlīgākos ebreju mūzikas pierakstus. Savā ziņā tas bija arī veids kā turpināt iesākto pētījumu. Ilga Vālodze Ābele saka, ka neesot satikuši Emiļa Melngaiļa palīgu pēctečus. Jāpiebilst, ka Emils Melngailis savos pierakstos bija skops ne tikai ar dziesmu vārdiem, reizēm aizmirsa norādīt arī pieraksta vietu, teicēja vārdu. Mūzikas albumam pievienotajā grāmatā var novērtēt to detektīva darbu, kas bija veicams, lai noskaidrotu iesaistīto precīzus uzvārdus. Kas tālāk jau pavēra iespēju tomēr satikt tos, kas glabā atmiņas par Melngaiļa laika Ķedaiņiem. “Black Rooster Kapelye” jau uzstājusies koncertos Vācijā – Drēzdenē un Brēmenē. Nesen notikusi jaunā mūzikas albuma atvēršanas svētku koncertturnejā Latvijā un Lietuvā. Ar mūziķiem runājam par to, cik dažādi klausītāji šo albumu uztver Latvijā, kur klausītāji meklē atpazīstamas melodijas, Vācijā – kur tā ir jidiš atdzimšanas kustības daļa. Kapela sapņo šogad doties uz pasaules mūzikas gadatirgu "Womex", kas rudenī notiks Somijā. Šāds kultūras krustpunkts ir lielisks veids, kā pasaulei stāstīt arī par Emili Melngaili un latviešu folkloru. Planet Afropop closes out 2023 with a focus on celebratory music from the Democratic Republic of Congo. First, Mukwae notes some of the year's trends in global African pop. Then we go to the streets of Kinshasa with live music from Kin'Gongolo Kinyata, recorded at WOMEX 2023 in Spain. And we end at the 35th Anniversary Dance Party at SOB's in New York City, with Samba Mapangala and Soukous Stars. It's a rollicking finale to an eventful year in African music.

The 2022 global music exposition, WOMEX, went down in Lisbon, Portugal. For the second year running, most of the African-related showcases featured bands led by women. In this episode we meet Selma Uamusse from Mozambique and Portugal, Djazia Satour from Algeria and France, Pilani Bubu from South Africa, and hear 78-year-old Lia de Itamaracá, Brazil, positively blow away this tough-to-please crowd. And we'll hear from some guys as well, Fra! with highlife funk from Ghana and Aywa fusing Moroccan, French and Spanish grooves. Produced by Banning Eyre.

This year, we are launching a new tradition: a year-end episode that looks forward rather than back. We'll ask artists and others to tell us about something new they discovered in African music this year, something that points to the future. The answers range from rising- star artists, to changes in the industry, to revelations about artists and styles that have been around, just not noticed. Nem lesz meglepetés az est közönsége számára, hogy Herczku Ágnes lelkében fontos helyet foglal el a jazz. Amellett, hogy énekesként és gyűjtőként is éltető közege a Kárpát-medencében élő és a velünk szoros viszonyban álló népek autentikus népzenéje, a népzenével érvényes kapcsolatot létrehozni képes műfajok is kezdettől vonzották. Dolgozott Borbély Mihállyal, Dresch Mihállyal, Herbie Mannel, Juhász Gáborral, Bornai Tiborral és DJ Palotaival. A végeredmény mindig kiemelkedő színvonalat képviselt. E színvonalat többek közt eMeRTon-díjakkal, Fonogram-díjjal, Kodály Zoltán és Bartók Béla Emlékdíjakkal, Magyar Művészetért díjjal, Érték-díjjal és Liszt Ferenc-díjjal ismerték el. Nyitottságához hozzájárulhatott, hogy civilként került művészi pályára. Először táncosként állt színpadon, tagja lett a Honvéd Együttes tánckarának, és ezzel párhuzamosan indult el énekesi karrierje. Szintén a többféle érték iránti nyitottságának, meg persze csodás énekhangjának és lenyűgöző színpadi jelenlétének köszönhette, hogy rövid időn belül vezető egyénisége lett a hazai nép- és világzenei színtérnek. Nyolc éven át a Fonó Zenekar tagja volt, 2002-től a Magyar Állami Népi Együttes szólistája, dolgozott Szalonnával és bandájával - és természetesen Nikola Parovval, akivel 1999 óta társak, és aki közel tíz éve a Herczku Ági és a Banda motorja. Biztosan szívesen mesél majd a WOMEX-en átélt sikerekről, a kortárs zenéhez fűződő élményeiről, zene és vers kapcsolatáról - és persze legkedvesebb jazz-zenéiről.
