Join our upcoming 5 day keto virtual event for FREE: https://www.ketokamp.com/keto-challenge [05:19] Addressing the Root Causes of Chronic Diseases: A Wake-Up Call for Modern Medicine ·    Mainstream medicine often treats chronic diseases with drugs that alleviate symptoms but do not address the root causes. ·    Chronic diseases extend beyond the well-known four and include obesity, type two diabetes, cardiovascular disease, heart attacks, strokes, cancer, Alzheimer's disease, and aging. ·    Stents and medications like statins do not adequately address the underlying damage to blood vessels, which continues to progress. ·    Lifestyle changes are crucial because they tackle the root causes and can slow down or even reverse these chronic diseases, unlike prescription drugs that mainly manage symptoms. [11:07] Decoding the Significance of mTOR: A Key Player in Health and Longevity ·    mTOR, a crucial biological molecule, regulates cell growth and repair based on nutrient availability. ·    mTOR is linked to numerous chronic diseases and is pivotal in determining longevity and aging. ·    Balancing mTOR activation and deactivation is crucial for overall health. Modern civilization and food availability have disrupted this balance, with mTOR often remaining constantly active. ·   Excessive mTOR activation, primarily due to frequent carbohydrate consumption, is associated with chronic diseases and accelerated aging. ·   Understanding mTOR's role offers insights into preventing chronic diseases and promoting longevity through lifestyle and dietary choices. [21:39] Rethinking Weight Loss: Why Conventional Approaches Aren't Working ·    The traditional "eat less and exercise more" approach is ineffective in combating weight gain. ·    Weight gain is primarily driven by the hormone insulin, not just the total calorie intake. ·    Insulin signals the body to store fat, so certain macronutrients like carbohydrates and glucose play a significant role in fat storage. ·    Reducing calories from these specific macronutrients, rather than simply reducing overall calorie intake, can be more effective in promoting weight loss. [33:42] The Impact of Insulin and Other Diabetes Drugs on Longevity ·    High insulin levels, primarily caused by dietary factors, contribute to various chronic diseases and health risks. ·    While insulin is life-saving for people with type one diabetes during acute episodes, it has long-term adverse effects related to chronic diseases like cancer, heart attack, and Alzheimer's disease. ·    The manipulation of glucose levels in the body through certain drugs such as Metformin, Rapamycin, and Acarbose highlights their potential for impacting longevity and preventing chronic diseases. However, further research is needed to fully understand their mechanisms and effects on humans.   [43:58] Reevaluating the Relationship Between Dietary Fat and Cardiovascular Disease ·    Blood cholesterol's role in heart attack risk is relatively small compared to factors like type 2 diabetes, insulin resistance, metabolic disease, and smoking. ·    Statins, drugs designed to lower blood cholesterol, slightly reduce heart attack risk, but other factors have a more substantial impact. ·    The low-fat dietary experiment that began in the 1960s and 70s, along with increased sugar consumption and seed oils, may have contributed to the current epidemic of chronic diseases and obesity. Today's guest deejay is Dan Haines Cohen, founder of Machine Records. Last year Machine Records celebrated 20 years of releasing new electronic/experimental music, mostly from Wales. Described as “Cardiff's number one underground electronic imprint” (Buzz Magazine), Machine was the winner of Best Label at the Welsh Music Awards in 2005 Dan also records as Stereo Minus One since 2001 and currently based in Wellington, New Zealand. As well as recent mixes and remixes, his eighth album will be released in June 2022. I met Dan on Twitter. After he turned me on to new releases from his label, I asked if he'd be interested in sharing a mix on Soundwave. Happily, he said yes. Dan's mix showcases some recent releases and includes exclusive, as-yet-unreleased tracks. Dan's mix also includes a new, never before heard remix by Cape Canaveral of Dan's 2001 track “Alarums' which features on Lodestone, as well as an exclusive track from Cape Canaveral's upcoming new release in 2022 (“Far”). Every morning this week, I've listened to Dan's mix while drinking coffee and beginning my workday. And every morning, while Dan's mix plays, a squirrel will sit on the railing of my roof deck, munching on nuts. Andrea Toyias is one of the world's most successful video game casting directors and voice directors. Her credits include Overwatch, World of Warcraft and Diablo. Andrea is also a highly sought after teacher with her prestigious Monsters and Creatures workshops. She has been a speaker at Get Your Game On and a contributor to The Buzz Magazine. Andrea believes there's no such thing as a small role. For her, acting is reacting and it's not always about the voice. It is about the heart and soul of the actor and the connections that they bring, using experiences from their own lives. She believes even a two-line character can have a profound impact on the players. Andrea tells us about the challenges of the casting process and shares the difficulties involved in listening to over 500 auditions for each role. She says that the actors who get the roles are not always the ones with the best voices – it's the ones who find a way to connect to the heartstrings of the characters. She demands vulnerability from her actors as she is looking for visceral and palpable performances and she shares some hacks to achieve powerful results under pressure. FREE REGISTRATION TO THE 7 DAY EVENT HEALTH LONGEVITY SECRETS: https://robert-lufkin.mykajabi.com/a/2147494261/463CbhYu TAKE HOME POINTS: Keto Flexing is a novel approach to ketogenic nutrition which involves ketosis, fasting, and flexible choices to optimize the health value of this strategy. Ketosis is a normal state in our bodies that we do less and less of because of the American diet, which forces us into the glucose side. So returning to ketosis is not a fad or a particular diet, but it's a way of living. It has health advantages compared to when we burn glucose. For ketogenic diet we add fats and oils. It is best to avoid seed/vegetable oils. They are [3 C's] canola oil, corn oil, cottonseed oil, [3 S's] soybean oil, sunflower oil, safflower oil, and two others rice bran oil and grapeseed oil. They're very unstable and highly inflammatory. We prefer stable fats, saturated fats, monounsaturated fats such as coconut oil, real olive oil, avocado oil, butter, ghee, duck fat, and lard.  *** CONNECT WITH ROBERT LUFKIN MD ON SOCIAL MEDIA ** Web: https://robertlufkinmd.com/ Twitter:https://twitter.com/robertlufkinmd Podcast: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/health-longevity-secrets/id1585563694 FREE REGISTRATION TO THE 7 DAY EVENT HEALTH LONGEVITY SECRETS: https://robert-lufkin.mykajabi.com/a/2147494261/463CbhYu ---------------------------------------------- Order Keto Flex: http://www.ketoflexbook.com -------------------------------------------------------- / / E P I S O D E   S P ON S O R S  PureForm Omega Plant Based Oils (Best Alternative to Fish Oil): http://www.purelifescience.com Use ben4 for $4.00 off. Dave asked Kula's bassist, Eric Fortier to play with the band for the gig. In a few days and one rehearsal, Eric had learned a show's worth of material and they played a successful gig together. After that night, the current incarnation of the band came into being - Ian McCulloch on guitar and vocals, Dave Rundell on drums and Eric Fortier on bass. Stonefeather recorded and released 3 singles in 2013-2014 and recorded a new EP, which will be released in August of 2014. He is the salty voice of road worn grit fresh off the streets of the Oklahoma panhandle. Employing a coy lyricism as he crafts love songs with abstract tangents of astral inquiry, he says his subversive writing style is inspired by the astronomical depths of culture, creativity and cosmic energy that fills the streets of Los Angeles - all combined with the human struggle of a young man who has loved, lost and learned so much on his journey to see his visions of global, political and cultural cohesion come to fruition. He has found that kundalini yoga has developed his capacity to connect with the world around him and says that this new practice in his life has significantly evolved his writing style and energy on stage - all of which is embedded in his new album that is currently under development. Josh has immersed himself in the new age concepts of yoga, vibrational energy and healthy eats in the heart of West Hollywood and hopes to bring these evolutionary principles to his audience through passionate, bluesy licks and a rock n' roll attitude - changing the world with music as he travels across the globe.
