Ambassador from Canada compares Trump's remarks about the Golden Dome to a ‘protection racket' The Canadian ambassador to the UN, Bob Ray, on Wednesday likened President Trump's recent remarks about the “Golden Dome” missile defense program to a kind of “protective racket.” Trump had stated that he was offering Canada free protection from the Golden Dome program if it agreed to become the 51st state of the U.S. If Canada refused and opted to remain a separate, yet “unequal” nation, he claimed the cost of protection would rise to $61 billion. https://totalnews.com/ambassador-from-canada-compares-trumps-remarks-about-the-golden-dome-to-a-protection-racket/ Letitia James Tries to Explain Her Way Out... Get ready for clever wordplay, deadpan humor, and hilarious absurdity with Bob & Ray, the iconic radio program that turned everyday situations into comedic gold. Hosted by the brilliant duo Bob Elliott and Ray Goulding, this long-running series delighted listeners from its debut in the 1940s, quickly becoming a staple of radio comedy. What set Bob & Ray apart was their unique blend of improvisation and subtle satire. Whether poking fun at corporate America, radio clichés, or societal norms, their humor was both timeless and razor-sharp, offering clever commentary while keeping the laughs rolling. This episode was originally broadcast December 21st, 1949 on WHDH Boston.
People, I can't believe I never posted this one three years ago! And we're coming up on the anniversary of the original launch date, too, September 3rd, 2021. I'm sorry to unintentionally hold back on ya, gang! This is actual Bob & Ray material, unlike the show four entries down from this one, which was written by Yr Obdt Svt. OK, enough apology, read on... Not too many stars from the OTR era have also hosted Saturday Night Live and a Broadway show, but comic geniuses Bob & Ray did it - and so Project Audion salutes them with a re-creation of the offbeat, deadpan humor that aired on radio networks across the country for years starting in the early 1950s. John Bell in Alabama, and Pete Lutz in Texas take on the many characters created by Bob Elliott and Ray Goulding in an assemblage of sketches - both familiar and obscure - designed to replicate the kind of free flowing absurdity they did so well. Larry Groebe is there as well, handling the production aspects from Dallas. In case you're a stubborn type who doesn't want to scroll down to find the aforementioned "other Bob & Ray", here's a handy link to help you get there, ya ol' curmudgeon: https://naradaradio.libsyn.com/project-audion-58-matinee-with-bob-ray
Project Audion invites you to some light summer fare. This Audion Original -- "Matinee with Bob & Ray" -- is Bob Elliott and Ray Goulding like you've never heard before, because it's made from fresh sketches in tribute to "The Two and Only." If there is such a thing as mid-century-modern comedy, Bob & Ray are the leading example - a comedy team formed (legend has it) by accident in the mid-1940s when a baseball game broadcast was rained out and these two young men were thrown together to ad-lib on the air. That began a five-decade partnership that saw them on every radio network, on TV, films, and even Broadway. Their wit and deadpan characters influenced many later funnymen, including Bob Newhart, David Letterman, Jay Leno and many others. Also Pete Lutz, who wrote this half-hour of new absurdly satirical routines to bring back to life a "Matinee with Bob & Ray!" ENJOY! Bob Elliott - John Bell, Alabama Ray Goulding - Pete Lutz, Texas Organ - Ross Bernardt , Texas Production - Larry Groebe, Texas

Soulard Farmer's Market is one of the most treasured and historic spots in St. Louis. It's been in operation since 1779, when farmers would gather in the area to sell their goods. Fast forward to now and there are 146 stands with a waitlist of dozens of people who want to sell at the market in the heart of the city. This week, we sat down with the market manager Bob Ray and the co-owners of Soulard Spice Shop, Miriam Schnur and Dana Frenzel. The spice shop is one of the long-time vendors, selling spices since the 1920 and it's always got a line on weekends when Soulard Market sees 10 thousand shoppers. We talk about the past, the present and the future of the market. The Soulard Farmer's Market is open Wednesday – Saturday.
This week, the randomizer goes all the way back to 2019 to pick yet another NatGeo special! And since it's become abundantly clear that every NatGeo special is exactly the same, I'm gonna devote the rest of this description to talking about the life of actor/comedian Chris Elliott. Born in 1960 in New York City as the fifth and youngest child of Bob Elliott of Bob & Ray fame, Mr. Elliott was hired as a production assistant on Late Night with David Letterman and soon began playing various wacky characters on-camera. This led to supporting roles in such films as Manhunter, The Abyss, Groundhog Day and There's Something About Mary, as well as starring roles in his own FOX primetime sitcom Get A Life and the feature film vehicle Cabin Boy. More recently, in the 2010s he had his own Adult Swim series Eagleheart, and a regular supporting role on Schitt's Creek. Chris Elliott's surreal, offbeat style of humor has been a comedy staple for over forty years and counting, and he continues to be an always-welcome character actor to this day. In most cases, the folks that help start a great restaurant concept are not the folks running it at scale. Most leaders within a startup fail to meet the new challenges they're presented with in a larger organization. But not Bob Ray. Bob went from managing a single restaurant location to COO, overseeing the massive growth of the Margaritas Mexican Restaurant chain over the last 30 years. In our conversation today, we discuss the kind of leader Bob was and what kind of leader he had to become to scale a small restaurant into a big company. Frank's friend Kira Cupp is filling in for Kathryn Frady. Frank says Easter Tuesday is still part of the octave of Easter. He has Marshmallow Peeps that he wants to toast over a fire. Kira jokes that Frank should plant the Peeps to grow more. Last week Frank joked that another deejay named J.J. Jeffries planted jelly beans hoping to grow a candy garden. He also joked that J.J. tried to import chocolates for Valentine's Day but was now trying to re-mold them as chocolate Easter eggs. Frank based the joke on an old Bob & Ray routine called “Chocolate Wobblies.” Kira is in a Facebook group called the “Aldi Aisle of Shame.” That's where they sell household items and other limited-time products. Frank watches The Deal Guy's videos about what to buy at Aldi each month. Frank went to Aldi to get bottled water, which meant he would need a shopping cart. He had never rented an Aldi cart before and had to watch someone else do it first. Frank felt like he was wandering around while everyone else in the store knew exactly where everything was. He was looking for coffee, water and lamb meat. The cashier complimented his choice of lamb. Kira has been doing some modeling. The website for Kira's videography and photography business is https://www.nothingrhymeswithorange.net/ Kira posted a video on TikTok modeling a new bathing suit that covers her belly button. However, it created a new problem by accentuating her rear. She got several direct messages from guys commenting on the video. Last week Kira mentioned that she is vegan and that she bought a fig tree. Frank heard from someone who asked about fig wasps that die inside a fig while fertilizing it. The plant digests the dead figs, causing some people to say that figs are not vegan food. Frank says that the variety of fig plants that he has and that Kira bought are analogous to seedless grapes and don't attract fig wasps. This episode is sponsored by Steve's Tree Service. MasterMind Minutes - One Guest, One Question, One Answer in Minutes not Hours. I had a great discussion with Bob Ray, COO of Margarita's- We talked about Supply chain, Labor and other issues impacting not only the Margarita's brand but the restaurant industry in general. Bob Ray, who has been with Margaritas since 1992 in a wide variety of positions, became an owner and board member assuming the role of Chief Operating Officer. The brand also expanded its leadership team to include a star-studded mix of owners and board members with decades of experience managing and growing successful restaurants. Alongside founding brothers John and Dave Pelletier, the Margaritas leadership team includes Larry Cates, who served as President of Applebee's International; Anthony Ackil, the founder of B.GOOD, a trendsetting, healthy fast-casual restaurant chain; Hexagon Hospitality LLC founder Mitch Kahn; and Paul Twohig, the former president of Dunkin Donuts and former president of MOD Super-Fast Pizza Holdings LLC. During the pandemic, Margaritas re-engineered its business model focusing more on high-profit dayparts like dinner and late-night, reducing labor and food costs and simplifying operations without sacrificing fun or quality. “By removing lunch and opening later in the day for dinner and evening bar, we significantly increased efficiency and improved economics of the restaurants,” said Margaritas COO Bob Ray. “It's resulted in happier team members, which all together contributes to a better guest experience. We did all of this without compromising our scratch kitchen cooking or our craft margaritas. We've got the successful formula down to a science.” The renewed franchising efforts, being led by Vice President of Franchise Development Tom Radomski, will focus on expanding Margaritas beyond the Northeast. “Ideal candidates would be highly experienced, multi-unit operators that have the infrastructure in place to support high-volume, full-service restaurants in markets throughout Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, Georgia and Florida,” Radomski said, noting the total investment for a full-service Margaritas Mexican restaurant ranges from $1.5 to $2.5 million, depending on location on square footage. Margaritas Mexican Restaurants has delighted guests since 1986 with colorful, authentic décor and atmosphere, delicious Mexican recipes, 20+ hand shaken, made-to-order margaritas, and an inviting, fun experience for any occasion. In order to keep the brand special, founder John Pelletier made countless adventures to Mexico to seek out and purchase carved chairs, furnishings, artwork, and colorful tile from local artisans, ultimately using this décor to highlight Mexican culture in the restaurants. Today, that spirit lives on with managers and staff taking organized trips to central Mexico to visit artist communities and manufacturing towns to immerse themselves in the food and culture. ABOUT MARGARITAS MEXICAN RESTAURANTS Founded in 1986 by John Pelletier, Margaritas Mexican Restaurant Group has 25 locations throughout Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, Connecticut, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. From colorful and authentic décor to a commitment to community relations through field trips and visiting artist demonstrations, Margaritas provides an atmosphere rich with the culture and flavors of Mexico. Margaritas Mexican Restaurants have earned numerous awards and honors, including being named the Best Mexican Restaurant in both New Hampshire and Connecticut.
