On this episode I'm joined by Stano for a deep dive into his first album 1983's Content to Write in I Dine Weathercraft. Stano has been a recording artist and composer since the early 80s. He has released over a dozen albums, and numerous singles of startlingly, uncompromising original music. He is regarded as a true innovator, with an intense understanding of sonic structure and always ahead of his time, he has been described as a Sonic Architect. Of the album's 2018 reissue Boomkat wrote: "Content to Write in I Dine Weathercraft is one of those blue moon reissues that, in hindsight, seem to blow away so much other, better known material from the era whence it came. We're left in no doubt this LP is a true, overlooked classic of its time." Episode notes are here.

While playing random tracks from my hard drive full music, I stumbled upon several tunes I hadn't heard in forever. I was filled with feelings of nostalgia. That can happen quite a lot when you're as old as I am, certain albums will always remind me of times and places. I remember wearing out a cassette copy of Tangerine Dream's "Hyperborea" on an old boom box when I first started my current job 30 years ago. I started collecting a few obscure, nostalgia-inducing tracks as I listened to music over the next few months. As I sat down to make a mix from these tunes I noticed that I could separate them into two time periods - one is tracks from roughly 1976 to the late 80s. And the other turned into this mix, focusing on electronic/idm music from the 2000s. The mix starts with three of my all time favorite cuts from that period. It felt so good to hear these again and then work them into a mix. Here are links to all the music used in this mix. Because these are about 20 years old I used Boomkat to source the ones that did not have Bandcamp links. https://boomkat.com/products/views-of-distant-towns https://bfleischmann.bandcamp.com/album/welcome-tourist https://styrofoam-music.bandcamp.com/album/nothings-lost https://boomkat.com/products/far-away-trains-passing-by-2020-remaster https://thealbumleaf.bandcamp.com/album/in-a-safe-place https://boomkat.com/products/trois-gymnopedies https://komeit.bandcamp.com/album/kom-it https://boomkat.com/products/tangled-wool-3c00c3ec-205c-42f1-9fca-e0861673764a https://arovane.bandcamp.com/album/lilies https://renajones.bandcamp.com/album/indras-web https://bfleischmann.bandcamp.com/album/welcome-tourist Enjoy this electronic trip down memory lane.   Cheers! [EN] We retrieve an excerpt from the live that Kareem (Zhark Recordings, Berlin) offered us on a distant October 24, 2015 in Sala Siroco, Madrid. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do. Kareem Live (Zhark Recordings, Berlin) "Kareem aka Patrick Stottrop is the co-founder of Zhark Recordings and its sub-stamp Ramadan. From 1996 to 2007 he signed and published some of the best and darkest industrial-style records, taking electronic experimentation to limits never trodden at that time. His sound melted into black, with techno, hiphop and drone, creating a somber and metallic aesthetic, with the aim of transmitting and recreating in a claustrophobic state. In 2012, thanks to Boomkat's clinical eye, almost the entire Zhark Recordings record label was reissued in digital format. Quite a success, observing the different industrial projects that come to us in the current market. Perhaps that is why, from that year, a renewed Kareem reactivates his own label, in addition to publishing with some outstanding students as Ancient Methods in Fondation Sonore, the label of Amélie Ravalec (Paris / Berlin: 20 Years Of Underground Techno ) or in another underground highlight, Death Of Rave. This pioneer, often unfairly undervalued, will offer us a clinical direct, to recreate ourselves in the dark. An arsenal of sensations that haunted us from the shadows from minute zero.

There were some excellent releases in 2007, so I thought I'd feature some in a new mix. . My favorite ambient recording of the year was Stars of the Lid - And Their Refinement of the Decline. I know there are quite a few people who didn't care for the cd, but I love it. I like the more orchestral feel. I like that SOTL relies less & less on synths. A beautiful record. . My favorite vocal record was PG Six - Slightly Sorry. Snips from the Boomkat review..."a collection of quite unashamedly gorgeous 'proper' songs...'Slightly Sorry' is an album without tricks...'The Dance', the second track on the record - there's nothing necessarily modern about the song itself, it could have come out any time since 1969 and nobody would have batted an eyelid, but it's great music, pure and simple." I played this probably more than any other record this year. . As far as this mix is concerned, I pretty much stayed away from vocal tunes, with one exception in the middle of the mix. The mix opens with four drone tracks, including Paul Bradley, a new discovery thanks to the folks at the Hypnos forum. Some of his stuff gets a bit dark & dissonant for my taste, but his 2007 release "Chroma" features gorgeous, wide open drones. The drones gradually giveway to piano based tunes wich morph into electronics with a little beat then back to ambient to finish it off. . My full best of 2007 list follows the tracklisting for the mix. What were your favorite releases this year? Please leave some comments, I'd love to hear what you think.
