Sneaking in at the last possible moment, it's the No Tags best of 2025 show! As is tradition, we're joined by Henry Bruce-Jones to look back on the year in tunes and spotlight some lesser-feted records that you need to hear.We tried to avoid going over the same releases that we covered on the Best Music of 2025 So Far episode from July, so if you're wondering where the love is for Smerz, aya, Jim Legxacy or numerous other albums from the first half of the year, we probably talked about them back then.Scroll down for a time-stamped rundown of the episode – the full version is available on Substack, along with our personal Best of 2025 lists. But we want to hear your highlights as well! Tell us your most loved (and hated) releases, films or trends of the year, and let us know if we missed anything crucial via the comments. In case you forgot, our second book is out now. We've been running No Tags for over two years now. We do it around other jobs, we have no corporate backing, no sponsorship and we don't even run ads on the podcast. If you'd like to show your thanks, it really helps if you leave us a positive review over at Apple Podcasts. You can also like or share this post on Substack, which makes a big difference – and if you really love the pod, you can subscribe to our paid tier for £5 per month.Happy new year!Running order:People Making Music In A Room: feeo, The Necks, Water From Your Eyes, Kelela, Shell Company & Older Brother, Rat Heart, Blawan, DJ Travella, Dijon, Alex GDance Corner (33:16): Slikback - 'Data', Beatrice M - ‘Midnight Swim', Facta - ‘Jets', K-Lone - ‘Someone Else', Anthony Naples - ‘Compact', Efdemin - ‘Signal to Noise', Car Culture - ‘Nothingburger', Jump Source - ‘On' (ft. Alan Duggan Borges, the guitarist in Gilla Band, released his debut self-titled EP as The Null Club on April 4. Comrprising three tracks, 'Frameshift' features the rapper ELUCID (one half of Armand Hammer), '14 Hours' features Faris Badwan (The Horrors), and 'Slip Angles' has vocals by Valentine Caulfield (Mandy, Indiana). We talk about how the Null Club began and what it was like making the tracks with those contributors and what the future holds. We also discuss Alan's previous 'other' band, The Claque, and topics from Fontaines DC to Gilla Band's cover of Blawan's 'Why They Hide Their Bodies Under My Garage', which felt like a turning point for them, techno music, and supporting Iggy Pop at In The Meadows on June 7. Buy The Null Club EP: https://thenullclub.bandcamp.com/album/the-null-club-ep The Null Club live dates: May 2: The Workmans Club - Dublin May 13: Corsica Studios - London May 14: Rough Trade - Bristol May 16: Yes, The Basement - Manchester --- Press release: Spending time over the last few years learning about synthesis, production, and how to record has been an incredibly rewarding experience for Alan. This project has created an opportunity to explore genres and styles of music outside of Gilla Band that he's never done before, as well as being completely in control of the production and instrumentation. It's also been an opportunity to work with incredible artists who Alan truly admires and have had a massive influence. Getting the caliber of talent on the EP happened very naturally and somewhat unremarkably. He reached out to Val from Mandy, Indiana via Instagram and she thankfully agreed. Faris and ELUCID had both reached out to Gilla Band to say hey and he jumped at the opportunity to get them involved in the project. The EP will be released on a limited run of 500 12” white label records, each hand stamped by Alan and released independently on a label ran by his wife and himself. The EP was mixed by Daniel Fox (Gilla Band), and mastered by Jamie Hyland (M(h)aol). with vocals contributed by the artists. All instrumentals were performed and recorded by Alan in his home, and rehearsal studio in Dublin, Ireland. with vocals being recorded in a mix of places – NYC, London, and Manchester (sometimes in studios, sometimes in the artists homes). There will be a number of solo shows across Ireland and England where Alan will be reworking the tracks from the EP live along with a number of unheard pieces of music. There will be numerous synths, noise machines, guitars, and many pedals on stage all being looped into different amps to bring the songs to life in a live setting. Tickets on-sale now.
TECH CLUBBERS PODCAST W/ DAHRAXT DAHRAXT is the techno project of the electronic music artist Alessandro Mannella ( formerly known as Mannella ). Italian-born and Berlin-adopted, he expresses his multi-faceted talent producing music, DJing and performing live. Apart from being heavily influenced by the UK techno sound, DAHRAXT's musical narratives oscillate between industrial techno and distorted electro soundscapes, all the way to the more mental techno textures. Moving at a young age to Ibiza, he crafted his DJ mixing skills performing regularly at important venues like Space and throwing illegal parties around the island. Not long after, he moved to Berlin and immediately caught the attention of many, playing at the iconic Tresor basement and shaking the dancefloors of other major clubs such as About Blank, Arena and Suicide Circus, as well as hosting events at the former Griessmühle. Eventually, as one of the founders of the multidisciplinary event project ENIGMA, he brought a brand-new event concept at Tresor Club. Besides Germany, DAHRAXT has made appearances at other influential venues across Europe such as Gare (Porto) and FOLD (London) among others. Touring overseas and taking part in the underground festival circuit, DAHRAXT has performed with the likes of Ancient Methods, Ben Klock, Detroit Techno Militia, Nene H, New Frames, Tommy Four Seven, Scan7, Sunil Sharpe and many more. His unmatched dexterity in bringing the crowd into his own visionary trip and the intensity of his DJ sets allowed him to also gain a residency at the techno party Vocoder in Mexico City (2018) and most recently at ARIA, London. As a long-time vinyl collector and supporter, in 2015 DAHRAXT founded two record labels: “Jtseries”, (a techno dancefloor-oriented imprint) and “PicNic34” (having a more experimental direction). On those, he has collaborated with Blawan, Cristian Vogel, Charlton, Kucera, Santiago Salazar, Tobias, Vladislav Delay and VSK to name a few. With an arsenal of music ready to hit some of the most important music platforms out there, DAHRAXT's ever mind-expanding DJ and studio experiments are bound to be experienced by many. *The Mix was live recorded at Tresor Berlin* Follow DAHRAXT here: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/mannella.dahraxt Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/dahraxt/ Soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/dahraxt

This week's episode begins with Ian telling Steven about his recent experience seeing The Cure in concert. Turns out they are playing a lot of new songs live, and they sound a lot like Disintegration. Steven reveals that Jason Isbell said something similar about his experience seeing The Cure in New Orleans (5:06).Next, they address the most hyped release in the indie world of late, The Sex EP by NYC throwback dance-punk act The Dare (15:39). A lot of people are talking about this four-song release, and a lot of that talk is negative. But for Steven, what's interesting is that a collection of dumb tunes about sex and drugs is being treated as a novelty, when "dumb songs about sex and drugs" sum up a lot of popular music from the past 50 years, from rock to rap to country to basically every other genre. Is there a reaction brewing to the Trump/Covid era of music? From there, Steven and Ian have a wider conversation about indie sleaze and whether it's a real phenomenon or a trumped-up fantasy by shadowy "Brooklyn-based trend forecasters" (32:29). Speaking of fantasies, the guys also addressed reunion rumors surrounding two very different bands: Oasis and Modern Baseball (44:55).In Recommendation Corner (50:42), Ian talks about two electronic acts, Blawan and Overmono, while Steven brings up the catchy French indie pop En Attendant Ana.New episodes of Indiecast drop every Friday. Today we premiere new rolling techno coming from straight from Research residents Aeron XTC & Taint for Free Download. The Dublin based DJs and producers showcase a blistering locked groove that leans on trippy soundscapes and thunderous low-end power. Research residents and co-owners Aeron XTC and Taint are two of Dublin's most seasoned techno DJs, having played in most venues across the capital as well as being festival favourites, the pair live and breathe techno music through every aspect of their life. Alongside playing regular show's together across Index, Farrier & Draper, Wigwam, Cellar, AVA Festival, Electric Picnic, Life Festival and more, the pair have been busy crafting a unique sound within the studio. The duo's workflow both behind the booth & within the studio complements each other greatly, each adding their own flavour to a unified sound which oozes out in an oddly satisfying yet contradictory manor. Having respectively played alongside some of the titans of the techno scene including; Karenn, Paula Temple, Perc, FJAAK, SPFDJ, Blawan and many more, the pair are well versed in the art of warming up a room – an often forgotten art of DJing in Dublin City. Their latest offering comes in the form of a ferocious loop driven slice of Dublin techno. The pair showcase an uncompromising taste of dynamic and rhythmic techno, that growls from the belly up. Intricate synth swells snarl through the mix as they play off a mind-bending lead sequence to nauseating effect. This is proper loop-driven techno, that packs a punch relentless flurry of punches. Irish-born, Manchester-based Kerrie is a multi-disciplinary artist, incorporating live sets, DJing, producing and running her label Dark Machine Funk across her repertoire of work. Having garnered a rich musical education through working at and holding a DJ residency for one of the UK's most respected record shops Eastern Bloc, Kerrie's in-depth knowledge and unwavering dedication to music shines through her notable back catalogue and bolshy, unforgiving DJ and Live sets. Honing her craft for over a decade, Kerrie has played worldwide in celebrated venues such as Tresor, Berghain, fabric, FOLD, Elsewhere NYC and festivals including Freedom Medellin, Freerotation, Drift and Basilar. First learning to mix via her brother's turntables in the early 2000s, it wasn't until 2009 that Kerrie invested in her own set-up and built an extensive record collection, covering everything from ambient, electronic, house, EBM, acid, electro, and her go-to genre, techno. Kerrie delivers tough moods from the turntables, as conveyed in her mixes for Reclaim Your City, Bassiani, SLAM and Crack, where she carefully blended high-energy styles of UK, Detroit, and European techno, many of which stem from the 90s and the 00s. It's frequent to hear Kerrie weave broken elements into her mixes too, chopping up the 4/4 groove at just the right moment to keep things propulsive. Kerrie's Live sets are fast becoming renowned for their trippy motifs and high impact on the dancefloor, applauded by Berlin's long-running club Tresor, where she made several appearances with her Elektron machines. Kerrie's Live set at Freerotation in 2019 was one of the festival's most talked-about debuts, and this year, Kerrie will return to and debut at multiple festivals and clubs across Europe and the Americas. Following well-received releases on labels such as Don't Be Afraid, Cultivated Electronics, I Love Acid and Symbolism, Kerrie launched her imprint Dark Machine Funk [DMF] in 2020. The label homes her distinctly raw aesthetic and honours her love for dark, gritty, metallic and industrial sounds melded with elements of funk, heavily influenced by second-wave Detroit artists, UK techno and music by some of her favourite artists; James Ruskin, Blawan and Surgeon. Kerrie's first release on DMF, "Inner Space PT1", was praised by Resident Advisor, who credited her ability to make "lean, fierce techno that knows how to groove." 2022 was a watershed year for Kerrie's productions. She debuted on the monumental UK techno label Blueprint with her EP "Raw Regimen", which landed acclaimed reviews. Truly welcomed to the Blueprint family, Kerrie will share her second EP on the label in May 2023 and join the crew at Blueprint showcases around the globe. This year marks the release of Kerrie's 10th EP on vinyl, and considering her consistent output on DMF, Blueprint and many more labels, the producer shows no sign of slowing down. Coming to international prominence in more recent years, regardless of her decade-long tenure in Manchester's vibrant scene, Kerrie is deeply invested in the culture of electronic music, starting from her teenage era as a raver in Ireland up to her innovative projects today. In 2017, she founded Eastern Bloc's in-house event space to nurture local talent, which remains at the heart of Manchester's music community. Kerrie is forging a long-lasting path fuelled by drive, passion, authenticity and a community-first way of thinking. Alexandra to młoda DJ'ka z południa Polski. Absolwentka w klasie gitary oraz fortepianu. Od małego związana z muzyką, lecz swoją karierę pokierowała w całkowicie inną stronę. Z zamiłowania do muzyki postanowiła spróbować swoich sił za DJ'ką. Razem z wrocławską ekipą The Visions przemierza Polskę organizując liczne eventy.
@rhyw's take on electronic music is full throttle and high definition. The Welsh-Greek DJ and producer co-runs the Fever Am label with Mor Elian, where he releases alien club sounds with sci-fi details, industrial textures, cyborg vocals and syncopated beats. His densely detailed output has also come on the likes of Avian and Seilscheibenpfeiler where it goes from minimal to broken beat to electro, but always with plenty of sonic surprises. His "desire to sound different" has really come to the fore since his live Cassegrain project alongside Hüseyin Evirgen went on pause, and he proved that most recently with a new EP on Blawan and Pariah's Voam label. All of this play out over a kinetic 65-minute mix served up for us this week. It's a lithe and lively workout with sleek sound designs and a future feel from start to finish. Each track brims with exquisite detail while the contrast of heavy drums and light-emitting synths brings a real sense of space. The whole thing adds up to artful body music with natural emotional intelligence.
We're back from our holidays with a real bang. We may have been away from a few weeks, but our absolute favourites Melt-Banana have been away for the best part of a decade. Their return is everything we hoped for too… apart from a full album! Elsewhere we have our usual mix of eclectic and extravagant experimental music. Starting with the superb cold wave of Grotto Terrazza, moving through to the truly sublime collaboration between Pariah and Blawan as Persher, and then finishing with a stunning 20-minute piano record from Natalie Rose LeBrecht. Other than that, brutal metal, thrashing grind core, modern classical, experimental percussion and loads more. Tracklisting Grotto Terrazza – Der Zaubergeselle (Maple Death Records, Italy / Cut Surface, Austria) Persher – Man With the Magic Soap (Thrill Jockey, USA) Chloe Kim 김예지 – My Dearests (Phantom Limb, UK) Enablers – Phone Blows Up (Wrong Speed Records, UK) Melt-Banana – To Raffle or Not to Raffle (Adult Swim, USA) Concentration – Grün im Gesicht (Avon Terror Corps, UK) Pye Corner Audio – Pocket Disco (Polytechnic Youth, UK) FRET – Rhino Patch (L.I.E.S. Today we premiere a track from a new Irish techno label with a track coming from Dublin techno boss, Mode_1. Robbie Kavnagh aka Mode_1 has contributed deep and driving techno track with howling synth lines, pounding kick-drums and eery atmospheres throughout. This is not to miss from one of Dublins most consistent producers. Mode_1 has been busy in the studio, supplying a wealth of music within recent times. Mode_1's carefully crafted DJ tools lye in tangent with his well orchestrated DJ sets which have caught the attention of many through his time as a Subject resident, playing regularly in Dublin and on the festival circuit. Mode_1 produces clean and powerful peak time techno and his DJ sets would be best described as fast and trippy with a groove. The Dublin based selector has shared the stage with some of technos most formidable figures including; Ben Klock, Slam, Ben Sims, Dave Clarke, Paula Temple, Blawan and more. In the studio Mode_1 has been constructing well oiled techno records and releasing them on highly regraded techno imprints including; Naked Lunch Records, Knotweed Rec, Fiedeltwo, Truncate and more. Mode_1's track Recourse is classic rolling techno. Recourse is a tough, trippy and sinister. Shrieking synths take centre stage of the track as atmospheres swirl around the track. Pounding kick drums and gnarly percussion give the track a real peak time feel, yet it still feel's utterly spaced out. The is grat work from one of Dublins finest techno producers. Our first local selection mix of the year comes from one of Ireland's most prolific DJ's & producers, Nathan Jones aka, Snakebite 616. The Dublin native has pieced together a blend of jackin' & menacing techno rhythms, from bonafide techno anthems to niche grooves. Only a trickle of techno selectors in Ireland have a resume that comes even close to Snakebite 616's fka Nathan Jones. The seasoned selector has held his own alongside Jeff Mills, DJ Pete, Ben Ufo, Blawan, Chris Libeing, Cari Lekebusch, Shifted and a many more, as well as holding it down in Berlin and The UK on numerous occasions, once again on immense lineups. Since Nathan settled upon his fresh alias, Snakebite 616 the DJ & producer has received great success and seem's to be reaching his great magnum opus. His track ‘Right Of Passage' released on the newly born ‘Ogham Records' is ageing like a fine wine, as we run further away from the release date, the track seems to be garnering even more applause. Receiving support from DJ's all through Ireland and Europe, and has been an absolute staple in any set I was lucky enough to play last year. For the inaugural Local Selection Mix of 2022, we present Snakebite 616 as he's dispensed a top-tier, high octane techno workout. If you've been missing the dance floor I would suggest you stay far away from this mix, as it's got echoes of dark dance floors displayed all over it. Brisk mixing, top selections, billowing baselines and skills to match them, this is a memoir to your dance floor respite. Tracks coming from DJ Rush, Binny, Jeff Mills, Planetary Assault Systems, The Horrorist and more.
