Hour 1 Willie Colon is sitting in with Gio today and the guys agree that, while Kyler Murray can help the Giants or another QB-needy team, the Giants can't give up the third overall pick to get him. Gio is not a fan of Ryan Seacrest as the new host of Wheel of Fortune. Jerry's update covered a busy day of NFL moves and Gio heard Sauce Gardner say he expects an extension from the Jets this offseason. They also discussed Jose Iglesias officially signing with a new team. Gio introduces Willie to playing the Google autofill game. Hour 2 Willie sparked a passionate debate: should you wash chicken or not? Sauce said that Buffalo is the hardest place to play but wouldn't explain why and added “if you know, you know”. So, Gio wonders, does Willie know? Gio isn't worried about someone finding out what's on his phone. Jerry's update covered NFL moves and golf frustrations. The guys broke down how players feel about the franchise tag. The hour concluded with Willie sharing what he's heard on the street: more married men are getting male enhancements. Hour 3 The Knicks play the Lakers in LA tonight. Gio and Willie discuss the Knicks' season and agree it feels disappointing. Jerry returns with an update and they discuss the Cowboys and a song by Better Than Ezra. Adam the Bull rants about Nick Chubb, Pacman Jones admits to cheating, and Jerry plays calls from LIU Brooklyn's win. A caller asks if Gio was campaigning for Boomer to pay for a male enhancement procedure. Hour 4 Gio and Willie explore the top QB options for the Giants: Cam Ward, Shedeur Sanders or a veteran. They disagree on the decision the Giants made in last year's draft. Jerry's update began with a conversation about Groundhog Day and the end of winter before moving to Sauce Gardner's future with the Jets. Gio teaching Willie about a Google autofill game was highlighted as the "Moment of The Day." The show concluded with a discussion about favorite chips to snack on.

Scoot also talks to Attorney Stephen Rue about his thoughts on not being able to march as a Zulu Tramp on Fat Tuesday this year due to severe winds. On this episode of Prisoners of Rock and Roll, we're jumping in our musical memory machine and going back 30 years to 1995. Rock and roll still ruled the charts and alternative music was still a thing. We got great albums from Alice in Chains, No Doubt, Mad Season, Oasis, Ozzy, and White Zombie. SIlverchair, the Foo Fighters, the Deftones, Jewel, Radiohead, Alanis Morissette, and Garbage all released their debut albums. TLC warned us against chasing Waterfalls. Coolio was living in a gangsta's paradise, and groups also released a handful of songs that we still hear today: Hey Man Nice Shot, Peaches, and those songs by Spacehog, Better Than Ezra, Elastica. Several members of the Wu Tang Clan released solo albums. R&B kinda sucked with a few exceptions. And there was weird stuff like the Macarena, Scatman John, and Cotton Eye Joe were on the radio. Michael Jerome had been drumming in a post-industrial metal band when he auditioned for Richard Thompson in 1999, little knowing he would be this brilliant guitarist's percussive foil for the next 25 years and counting. Jerome also has played with Charlie Musselwhite, the Blind Boys of Alabama and, for several years, John Cale. He's been Better Than Ezra's drummer since 2009 and played and toured with Slash for his latest album—and what started as an experimental side project is now moving center stage: The Third Mind, the improvisatory psychedelic band assembled by Dave Alvin and Victor Krummenacher. As thoughtful in conversation as he is dazzling behind his kit, Jerome tells how he developed his unique style and adapts it for each project—and he relates what it's like to be in Los Angeles now as he tries to help friends and others who have lost almost everything in the catastrophic wildfires. After a weekend of eye-opening experiences, I found myself reevaluating the role of ego in personal growth. Picture this: at a Boardroom Mastermind Group meeting, I crossed paths with Leon, the Wall Street Trapper, whose humility in the face of massive success challenged my own perceptions. His story of rising from humble beginnings to triumph in the stock market was fascinating, but it was his graceful approach to learning and growth that left a lasting impression. This encounter, coupled with the inspiring energy at a Better Than Ezra concert, where the band skillfully blended new material with classics, left me pondering the virtues of staying grounded and continuously evolving. Throughout this episode, we explore the pitfalls of ego, drawing insights from Ryan Holiday's seminal works, "The Obstacle is the Way" and "Ego is the Enemy," and examining how unchecked ego can stifle success, using Steve Jobs as a poignant example. We unravel the complexities of the Dunning-Kruger effect and the critical importance of maintaining a service-oriented mindset. The cautionary tale of Elizabeth Holmes and Theranos serves as a sobering reminder of the catastrophic outcomes that ego can unleash. By the end, it's clear that embracing humility and a lifelong commitment to learning are more valuable than any facade of perfection. Join me as we embark on a journey of self-reflection and growth, one that prioritizes authenticity over artifice.
One hour just didn't seem long enough to chat with accomplished drummer, touring musician, author, teacher, percussion coach and session player - Rich Scannella. A friend of Diane's from their high school band and orchestra ... they recently re-connected at Musikfest where Rich was performing with the band Tonic. During our conversation, Rich shared stories, advice, and lessons he learned from his experiences and journey as a full-time musician. The list of bands he's played with is long and distinguished but if we must name just a few, how about Bruce Springsteen, Bon Jovi, Lady Gaga, Tonic, Brian Fallon, Nicole Atkins, Gary US Bonds, Debbie Harry, John Eddie, and so many more! Rich has toured all over the world, played the biggest stages, worked with dozens of famous producers, teaches at Rider University, and wrote a book called Ghost Notes which takes a deep dive into the many behind-the-scenes' stories he has! When you listen to this podcast you'll realize that the key to Rich Scannella's continued success is built upon more than just his amazing talent. He credits the genuine habits of hard work, punctuality, being a consummate professional, and adapting to each situation as fundamental to making his mark on the industry. He is truly a chameleon who adapts and applies himself to any situation, and all musicians would benefit greatly from listening to his perspective and insight! Rich will be on tour in January with Tonic playing on the Rock Boat out of Miami to South America. He'll also be playing the Montage Mountainfest Outdoor Winter Music Festival on Saturday March 1st with Better Than Ezra. The Ain't No Sunshine Showdown could be coming to a TV set near you in late November! As Florida State stares 0-2 overall, and in ACC play, down the barrel, it has been a barrel of monkey business for Billy Napier at Florida. With their powers combined, 0-3 never looked so sad. While Michigan won't back down from sitting atop its high horse, Texas might mess with them. The big question is will they wreck them before the dog walk them in The Big House? Also, John Buhler (Staff Writer, FanSided.com) and Cody Williams (Content Director, FanSided.com) reacted to the second AP Top 25 Poll of the season.Plus, the boys got Antonio a burner phone before his game of the week. If that wasn't enough, stay for some Just Like Novocaine that tastes Better Than Ezra. That's some good pepperoni. You could say this episode of False Start was Juicy!

Despite three hit albums and the #1 song “Good,” Better Than Ezra was dropped from its label. Lead singer Kevin Griffin faced a choice: quit music or reinvent himself within the industry. He chose the latter, and decades later Kevin, and the band, are thriving. If you enjoy this episode, please consider leaving a rating and a review. Todd Ault interviews Kevin Griffin, a creative entrepreneur and best-selling author who is known far and wide as the lead singer and founding member of Better Than Ezra, the platinum-selling 90's alternative rock band who achieved massive success with their number 1 hit song "Good". If you agree that Bob Dylan helped write the soundtrack to the tumultuous 1960's, then similarly, Kevin Griffin helped write the soundtrack to the epic summer of 1995! Tune-in to hear Kevin reveal the one quality that he believes all successful musicians have in common. Learn how his massive success as a songwriter inspired other musicians like Taylor Swift to also record his songs. Don't miss this 45-minute interview with Kevin Griffin to hear what sparked the idea to write his newest book “The Greatest Song: Spark Creativity, Ignite Your Career and Transform Your Life", a business parable that is loosely based on his occasionally turbulent, yet charmed life and career. "The one thing that still bubbles to the top is authenticity - a good product, a good idea, a good song." - Kevin Griffin
Ian Moore may have been born in Berkeley, California, but the sound from his eponymously named debut studio album reflects Austin, Texas, the place he called home. Moore began playing violin at a young age, but switched to guitar as a teen under the influence of artists like Albert King and Stevie Ray Vaughan. Moore's influence runs well beyond the blues genre, however, from Curtis Mayfield to Stevie Wonder, and from Sly & the Family Stone to the Rolling Stones. Moore's debut album is based in the blues and roots rock. Comparisons to Stevie Ray Vaughan, another Austin guitarist, come naturally with Moore's songwriting lyrics and his obvious guitar skills. The album's success was a testament to Moore's ability to bridge the gap between traditional blues roots and contemporary rock sounds. While Ian Moore got his start in blues rock, he has been hard to pigeonhole into a single genre. The record company wanted Moore to be a continuation of Stevie Ray Vaughan's legacy, but Moore had other ideas. After his third album submission reflected a more power pop and roots rock sensibility, Capricorn Records dropped him. Moore would continue a career as a touring musician and singer-songwriter, giving up greater fame for greater freedom as an artist to pursue his own path. Rob brings us this lesser known blues album for this week's podcastNothingThe bluesy southern rock opening track to the album is a call back to a far-away love, perhaps reflecting life on the road. “Miles and miles from nowhere but it's always someplace new. My time is spent with strangers but my mind is spent with you.”RevelationThis funky song reminds us of the Black Crowes. Even the background singers are eerily similar, but beautiful. It chronicles the discovery that the singer's girl is lying to him, and the revelation of her true character. Unlike other lovers, the singer is going to break free of her trap.HarlemInspired by the energy of Harlem, Moore's lyrics explores the ways we are separated from each other by neighborhoods and experiences, even through physical barriers when you're “riding through Harlem in my bulletproof car.”How Does It FeelThis song tells a story about a girl who continues to break up with a guy only to come back over and over. It was one of the songs that received airplay at the time the album had been released, along with “Nothing.” It starts slowly and builds to the chorus. ENTERTAINMENT TRACK:Main Theme from the motion picture “Wayne's World 2”“Party on, Wayne!” “Party on, Garth!” This second outing from Mike Myers and Dana Carvey dropped in December 1993. STAFF PICKS:Good by Better Than Ezra Wayne kicks off the staff picks with a hit from the indie band Better Than Ezra. The band came out of Baton Rouge where they attended LSU. The song is about the positive things that come from the end of a relationship. While there is always drama and hurt feelings, there are also good things on which to reflect when the dust settles. She Hates Me by Puddle of MuddLynch was able to find a clean version of this song for the podcast. Wes Scantlin wrote this song along with Jimmy Allen, the original guitarist. By the time the demo tape was heard and a decision was made to sign the band, the original group had broken up. Scantlin was set up with new bandmates when signed to Flawless Records, and people didn't hate the song or the band.Purple Haze by The Cure Bruce brings us a cover of a famous piece by Jimi Hendrix. A tribute album called “Stone Free: A Tribute to Jimi Hendrix” was released in 1993, and The Cure provided this take on Purple Haze. It went to number 2 on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart.Like the Weather by 10,000 Maniacs Rob closes out the staff picks with an acoustic rendition of this song recorded for “MTV Unplugged.” The song originally came out in 1987 on their third album. Natalie Merchant would leave the group for a solo career shortly after this live performance. NOVELTY TRACK:(I Know I Got) Skillz by Shaquille O'Neal featuring Def JefCelebrity rap songs were in vogue at the time, but we think Shaq's skills were better exhibited on the basketball court. But that's not all – Kevin has an amazing new book titled "The Greatest Song," and we'll be delving deep into it. This episode is hilarious... you'll never think about Gavin Rossdale the same way.
