Cancer is among the most common and feared diseases in the modern world. Dr. Selwyn Vickers—president and CEO of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center—joins host Mark Labberton to discuss how precision oncology, data, and faith are transforming cancer treatment. A distinguished cancer surgeon and pancreatic cancer researcher, Vickers explains how groundbreaking advances in genomics, immunotherapy, and AI are transforming once-lethal diagnoses into survivable and even chronic conditions. Together, they explore not only the cutting-edge science of cancer care but also the spiritual, emotional, and social dimensions that affect every patient and caregiver. Resonating with themes of suffering, hope, and resurrection, this conversation offers clarity, compassion, and courage for all who are affected by cancer—from those newly diagnosed, to medical professionals, to grieving families and curious listeners. Episode Highlights “We're getting to a point where we will, in the next five to seven years, have a much better chance to cure people—and to make pancreatic cancer a chronic illness.” “We are in what's somewhat coined the golden age of cancer research.” “Cancer is a disease that creates an existential threat in ways no other illness does.” “If a tumour forms, it means your body's immune system has made a social contract with the cancer.” “We changed the diagnosis in 10–12 percent of the patients who come to us—sometimes from cancer to no cancer.” “Cancer care is a team sport. And our patients often inspire us more than we help them.” Helpful Links & Resources Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center BioNTech – creators of mRNA vaccines for COVID and cancer CAR T-Cell Therapy Overview (Cancer.gov) Tim Keller on cancer and hope Emma Thompson's Wit (HBO) BRCA1 and BRCA2 Genes and Cancer Risk MSK-IMPACT: Next-Gen Tumor Profiling About Selwyn Vickers Selwyn M. Award-winning actress, history-making supermodel, staunch philanthropist, conscientious activist, author, and loving mom Patricia Velásquez applies an eternal creative spirit to everything she does-whether it be starring in blockbusters a la The Curse of La Llorona or launching the Wayúu Tayá Foundation and participating on the UNESCO Board. Regardless, she makes major strides by drawing on instinct and deliberately paving her own path. Patricia's success represented a turning point in fashion as she drew industry attention to South America for the first time. She experienced a big break upon becoming "the first model Karl Lagerfeld ever photographed" and going on to walk in shows, star in editorial spreads, and front ads for Chanel, Dolce & Gabbana, Fendi, Chloe, Cover Girl, and Victoria's Secret, to name a few. Resonating around the globe, she appeared in Oprah and Ford Models' "Supermodel of the World" contest as well. Not to mention, she graced the covers of Vogue, Bazaar, Marie Claire, and many others. She artfully channeled her dance training during shoots. Simultaneously, she ignited an impressive acting career. Not only did she star in The Mummy and The Mummy Returns, but she also appeared on The L Word, Arrested Development, CSI: Miami, Ugly Betty, List of a Lifetime, Hawaii 5-0 and Rescue Me. Throughout her career, she capitalized on every opportunity to give back. In 2002, she founded the Wayúu Tayá Foundation. This non-profit preserves the culture of indigenous groups throughout Latin America by way of support and the drastic improvement of living conditions. UNESCO invited her to be a celebrity advocate, and the United Nations granted her the 2009 Women Together Award. Want to watch: YouTube Meisterkhan Pod. (Please Subscribe)
There's a moment when we're taught to quiet ourselves. Maybe someone said they couldn't understand your accent. Maybe you were told you were “too much.” Or maybe something happened that made you start playing small just to stay safe. And so your voice - your real voice - gets buried under layers of doubt, conditioning, and fear… But what happens when you decide you're done with that? Today's guest is Jam Gamble, an educator, award-winning media personality, and one of the fiercest advocates for vocal empowerment I've ever met. She's the CEO behind Slay The Mic, a program that helps speakers, content creators, and entrepreneurs transform how they use their voice. In this episode, we talk about reclaiming your voice after it's been silenced, why your story is more powerful than you think, and how giving yourself permission to be heard might just be the most pivotal thing you do. Because somewhere out there, someone is waiting for you to go first. In this episode, we cover: (00:00) Introduction (01:39) Who's Your Kanye? (Framework) (03:04) Who was Jam's Kanye? Show of hands, how many of us have used an Adobe tool in our careers? Chances are, that's most of us. This week's guest, Kylee Peña, is working on marrying AI into our beloved tools, including Premiere and Photoshop. Not only can these integrations make tools easier to learn for new learners, they can also help with ideation and creativity. What sort of challenges are product marketers facing when it comes to putting AI features into existing products? First, Kylee says it's best to be clear about expectations. A way to combat this is to show real live demos. Another way is to be honest about the product and its limitations. And, how can AI messaging be more effective? Resonating and relating to people on an emotional level is the key. If you're a marketer who wants to learn more about how AI is being integrated with your already existing tools, this is the episode for you. Pastoral Reflections Finding God In Ourselves by Msgr. Don Fischer
Gospel Matthew 6:1-6, 16-18 Jesus said to his disciples: "Take care not to perform righteous deeds in order that people may see them; otherwise, you will have no recompense from your heavenly Father. When you give alms, do not blow a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets to win the praise of others. Amen, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you give alms, do not let your left hand know what your right is doing, so that your almsgiving may be secret. And your Father who sees in secret will repay you. ”When you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, who love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on street corners so that others may see them. Amen, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you pray, go to your inner room, close the door, and pray to your Father in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will repay you. "When you fast, do not look gloomy like the hypocrites. They neglect their appearance, so that they may appear to others to be fasting. Amen, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, so that you may not appear to be fasting, except to your Father who is hidden. And your Father who sees what is hidden will repay you.” Reflection What strikes me in this list of things that we should do, is the image of prayer. When you pray, you go to the inner room. Where is that inner room? What is it? And it seems so clear to me, it's our heart where God dwells. We are taught to go to that inner place, and to spend time with God, and to seek his advice and his direction, it's called our conscience. And it's such a gift, such a treasure. And during this season of lent, it seems like nothing would be better than to spend more and more time with God in our hearts and listen. Listen to how he wants us to grow and change. That's his will. That's why he is present. Closing Prayer Father, you make yourself so available to us. Dwelling in our hearts. Resonating love and healing. Bless us with this recognition. Help us never to lose the beauty of your relationship with us as we continue to work for your kingdom. And we ask this in Jesus' name, Amen. Learn more about your ad choices. The truth is, authority isn't given; it's built. It happens when you keep showing up, refining your message, and sharing what you know, even when self-doubt creeps in. Authority isn't about knowing everything—it's about taking up space, speaking up, and leading the conversation instead of waiting for permission. But most entrepreneurs and creators never reach that moment because they're too busy second-guessing themselves. This is the premise for this episode of EDIT HISTORY. Our guest is Latasha James, the Founder and Creative Director of James + Park Creative. She is also the host of the award-winning Freelance Friday Podcast and has taught thousands of people to start and grow their businesses through her courses and content. So. Send us a textIn this episode of Authors Who Lead, Denise Cecilia Frost and I delve into the grueling yet rewarding process of writing a novel. The takeaway is clear: the first draft is not about perfection but capturing a great story's essence. Drawing inspiration from Kurt Vonnegut, Denise emphasizes that every character must have a desire or goal to propel the narrative forward. It's a stage where messiness is not just tolerated but encouraged. Resonating from my experience as a co-writer, I added that revisiting drafts can later refine these raw beginnings into something coherent and compelling.Timestamp:00:00 Interviewing DC Frost, debuting novel with the detective.03:33 Mysteries capture local essence and offer immersive experiences.07:46 Books create intriguing, atmospheric worlds and loneliness.11:39 Commit, stay excited, and seek trusted feedback.15:44 Storytelling involves relationship-building and deep listening.19:21 Struggling with vulnerability in character choices.22:12 First drafts reveal key story elements.25:34 Write, and rewrite frequently; the husband's critique improves specificity.27:58 Female strength, vulnerability, and personal empowerment explored.30:22 Book explores cultural differences, education, and groupthink issues.33:58 Writing fiction allows the sharing of diverse, untold stories.37:20 Stories are vital; writers can revise freely.Full show notesCOMMUNITY PROGRAMS

Bio: Cody Peterson is a recovering alcoholic/drug-addict with over eleven years clean and sober. He has been fascinated by spirituality and religion since adolescence, although he struggled to maintain a spiritual connection, spending many years trying to get clean and sober. Finally, after a six-month stint in prison and a period of homelessness in Las Vegas, Nevada, Cody sobered up for good in 2013. In addition to practicing the Twelve Steps, Cody has rekindled his love of academic literature regarding spirituality and religion, and in 2019 he was led to the writings of C.G. Jung. Resonating deeply with the seminal ideas espoused by the Swiss psychiatrist, Cody felt his own calling to start writing soon thereafter. Today he takes his daily spiritual practice very seriously, believing that his recovery (and his life) depends on it, with his own version of prayer and meditation having evolved over the last thirty years to now include highlighting books and sharing his insights through his writings—the central feature of his day-to-day routine. Cody also feels an urgent need to give back by “carrying the message” to newcomers to the Twelve Steps through volunteering at any number of drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers and detox-facilities every chance he can. cityseamless.com cityseamlessroofing.com cityseamlesspatiocovers.com
In this fiery love story set in equatorial Africa, Peace Corps volunteer David Fields in on mission: to build a medical dispensary in a remote village where he seldom has his bearings and must fight a cocktail of tropical maladies and cultural taboos. He throws himself into work, which he's deliciously distracted from in his pursuit of a gorgeous African lady. In her vitality, Assam rocks with the energy of a dozen women and bye and bye David becomes the hunter captured by the game. And what a rollicking game of love it is with delicious “distractions” keeping the reader spellbound. With its hunting ventures into rainforest and original Bantu folktales recounted fireside, this is a novel that, in its haunting end, will strum elegiacally at your heartstrings. Resonating with Nabokov's truism, “The finest art is not simple and sincere but rather complex and deceitful.” Think of the Mona Lisa's smile. Think of Water Drumming in the Soul ... Your soul.

In this episode of Podtastic Audio, I, Chris, delve into the art of storytelling, a cornerstone of creating a captivating podcast. This is part three of our comprehensive series on how to make a great podcast, and today, I'm sharing invaluable tips and insights on crafting unique and engaging stories that resonate with your audience. Storytelling is more than just recounting events; it's about connecting with your listeners on a personal level. I emphasize the importance of weaving personal anecdotes into your episodes. These personal stories not only make your podcast unique but also help build a strong bond with your audience. One key technique I discuss is storyboarding. By planning your story arc and key moments, you can ensure that your narrative flows smoothly and keeps your listeners hooked from start to finish. Effective sound design is another crucial element in storytelling. Incorporating sound effects and music can enhance your narrative, creating a more immersive experience for your listeners. I also explore the benefits of having a co-host or guest interviews. Conversations and interactions can bring your stories to life, adding different perspectives and making your podcast more dynamic. Promoting your stories is just as important as crafting them. An engaging introduction is key to hooking your listeners right from the start. Aligning your stories with your podcast brand is essential. Make sure your stories are relevant and add value to your listeners. A good podcast knows its audience and understands what they need to hear. It's about getting straight to the point, staying on topic, and using the power of storytelling to make your content memorable. Thank you for tuning in to Podtastic Audio. I truly appreciate you spending your time with me today. I make these episodes especially for you, to help you create an amazing podcast that delivers value, content, and unforgettable stories. If you enjoyed this episode, please leave me a review wherever you're listening. Your feedback helps me continue to make great content for you. Upwards of 200,000 songs or more are uploaded daily to many digital providing streaming services. It becomes a crowded field rather quickly, and in many instances, your music can get lost in all of what is often called “white noise”. As streaming catalogs continue to grow in size and depth of music, DSP's (digital service providers) are beginning to remove music that has had zero impact on listeners. In another words, they want music that will resonate with their audience. As we continue our annual “Music Biz 2024” Conference Series, in the studio with us today is Gitte Bendzulla, who is the C.O.O. of the music platform, Deezer. Deezer is a French founded, French headquartered digital streaming service providing music for the European, African, and South American markets. France (especially Paris) is considered the entrance to the European music market, and Deezer is at the head of the streaming services providing an opening for new music for the rest of Europe, and beyond.
