Actor Eric Bana returns for mystery-thriller sequel to 'The Dry' Eric Bana is known for his comedy. The Australian actor began his career with the sketch comedy series ‘Full Frontal', but he began his acting career playing Con in the 1997 film ‘The Castle.' In 2020, he starred in an Australian mystery drama thriller film, playing the role of Aaron Falk in ‘The Dry', based on Jane Harper's book of the same name. Four years later, the detective has returned for the sequel ‘Force of Nature', with Bana reprising the role. He told Newstalk ZB's Francesca Rudkin that slipping back into the role felt a bit like cheating, having never reprised a role before. “I'm so used to having to, you know, do a lot of prep for a character.” ‘The Dry' was a hit upon its release, but Bana said they were uncertain whether the franchise would continue. “We looked at the next book for Aaron Falk and thought, well it's not enough just to, you know, is it, is the premise enough?” “Can we justify making a big screen version of it?” Clearly, with the movie releasing earlier this week, the premise had enough meat on its bones that they managed to justify its creation, and so off into the Australian bush in the middle of winter they went. The film was shot in a couple of locations around Australia, Bana revealed, with scenes shot in the Dandenong Ranges, the Yarra Valley, the Latrobe Valley, and out near the Otways National Park being stitched together. “It's funny because the cabin that we used for the retreat is privately owned, and we joked at the fact that people were going to go and say there and want to walk down to the waterfall. It's about a four-hour drive away.” Being out in the wilderness and on location is Bana's preferred method of shooting, telling Francesca that he doesn't like shooting in a studio, and so he rarely does it. “I feel like it's a more level playing field when you're using natural light as an actor.” “You know how long the day is going to be, there's a real, natural ticking clock.” The downside to filming on location, however, was the weather. Filming in the middle of winter is unpleasant at the best of times, but doubly so when you're hiking out into remote areas of the bush. “It was pretty brutal.” Showcasing Australia on an international scale is quite important to Bana, telling Francesca that sometimes it feels like Kiwis and Australians are good enough for our talent to be poached internationally, but they're never allowed to sound like they're from there. “It's really important when you make products from your home, that's an original story that can travel, it's great because that's how people see and hear us, hear our stories and hear who we are.” LISTEN ABOVESee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

We had the pleasure of interviewing Between You & Me over Zoom video!Fresh from the frenzy of their sold-out intimate headline tour, Australia's Between You & Me (BYAM) have today shared their brand new single and music video, “YEAH!” Opening with sunny acoustic chords reminiscent of early 2000s radio hits, “YEAH!” bursts into a feel-good verse carried by the distinct vocals of frontman Jake Wilson before moving into what is perhaps the band's most pronounced singalong chorus yet. In line with its bright and upbeat sound.Jake says the song is about “living your best life and not caring what anyone else thinks. I imagine this song playing in the montage scene of an early 2000s bratty comedy film. Stylistically it's a big shift for BYAM, but we wanted to bring beachy summer vibes to a fun and carefree song.”The band teamed up once again with Canadian producer Sam Guaiana (Armageddon - 2021), who flew to Australia earlier this year to record with the band at Beveridge Road Recording Studios in Victoria's Dandenong Ranges.“YEAH!” is the band's second independent release, and follows their addictive February single “Nevermind” which, on their recent run of intimate headline shows, proved to be a new fan favorite. Sonically “Nevermind” earmarked a new era for BYAM, and according to the band perfectly captured “the spirit of our band and our live show.” The single was swiftly added to rotation on triple j, and arrived ahead of a massive stint in the USA supporting Knuckle Puck and Real Friends, followed by an Australian tour joining Slowly Slowly on the road upon their return. BYAM also joined You Me At Six and Set It Off on their recent Australian run.In 2021, Between You & Me's acclaimed record Armageddon (Hopeless Records) took the band to new heights, featuring hit singles “Deadbeat”, “Butterflies”, “Change” and “Go To Hell” ft. Mikaila Delgado of Yours Truly. The electrifying 10-track record landed as triple j's Spotlight Album on release, alongside an interview on the station's Breakfast program, and has since clocked up over 13.5million global streams in addition to support from BBC Radio 1 (UK), Spotify, and more. To celebrate the album, Between You & Me stepped out on their biggest headline Australian tour in 2022, finishing with a milestone sold-out hometown show at Melbourne's The Corner Hotel. As the year drew to a close, the band took to the USA, joining American pop punk outfit State Champs on an extensive month-long run. With new singles “YEAH!” and “Nevermind” minting BYAM's newly independent era, the band are more motivated than ever to continue their global takeover. Fans both at home and abroad can expect more new music and touring news to come.We want to hear from you! Hard Place / Good Place is a project developed by the Yarra Ranges Regional Museum following a devastating storm that swept through the region in June 2021. It was thoughtfully designed in collaboration with the fEEL lab at the University of New South Wales as a way to work with young people in the region aged 15 to 25 to give voice to their experience as part of the recovery process. The work focusses on lived experiences of being in a ‘hard place' or a ‘good place' through a collection of personal and community stories, told through Augmented Reality. It was exhibited in the museum in Lilydale from September - November as part of The Big Anxiety - a mental health and arts festival. On this episode, Scotia is joined by two of the key people behind the project: Megan Sheehy, Director of the Yarra Ranges Regional Museum; and Volker Kuchelmeister, lead immersive designer and Senior Research fellow at the University of New South Wales' Felt Experience and Empathy Lab.We hear about the process of developing the work and the importance of centering the participants' experience. We also discuss the broader opportunities for the future of digital storytelling as well as the crucial role that local government and local cultural institutions play in supporting communities through disaster recovery in regional areas. Floral Remnant, a track from Alex Albrecht's new album 'Coles Ridge,' is a mesmerizing composition that showcases the artist's musical ingenuity and inspiration drawn from his explorations of the Dandenong Ranges in Melbourne's east. The track features a dynamic interplay between the rumbling drum groove and the lush piano melody. The drumbeat provides a solid foundation for the piece, while the piano melody floats gracefully above it, creating a charming and hypnotic ambiance. Coles Ridge LP, which features Floral Remnant, is due to release on April 2, 2023, on Analogue Attic, the record label founded by Alex Albrecht and Sean La'Brooy. The album promises to be a musical journey that reflects the artist's deep connection with nature and his passion for field recordings. write up by https://soundcloud.com/gilleswasserman https://soundcloud.com/melquiadesmusic https://www.instagram.com/alex_albrecht_music/ https://soundcloud.com/analogueattic https://www.instagram.com/analogue_attic/ http://www.analogueattic.com www.itsdelayed.com www.instagram.com/_____delayed/ www.facebook.com/itsdelayed

All that we see or seem - Is but a dream within a dream. - Edgar Allen Poe, Poetry Foundation. Picnic at Hanging Rock is more than just a book/film/story. I've experienced several paranormal anomalies in conjunction with my discovery of this content that make me extremely curious to find out more. It wasn't enough to see the recently updated series. I ordered the book and then added the posthumously published follow-up publication of the 18th chapter, The Secret of Hanging Rock, Amazon. (Still on the way, the Biography of the author, Joan Lindsay.) In the previous segment I talked about a perfectly timed Valentine - delivered via misdirected text. Valentine's Day was Joan's favorite holiday. Not only have the time related anomalies continued, I witnessed something I had never seen as I was uploading audio to a site. The time was out of sync. A glitch, no doubt - but a glitch I saw happen in real time. The other issue? An amazing find in the commentary included with The Secret of Hanging Rock. One of the contributors offers an Indigenous perspective. That was what I needed to see - and a truly wonderful surprise. The commenter is Mudrooroo, Colin Johnson. Deceased, 2019. Obit. “He was the premier Indigenous poet, novelist, essayist, playwright, and academic of the generation that created Aboriginal literature and an Aboriginal rights movement in Australia. He suggests the missing girls and their teacher had a UFO encounter...a topic that might have been too fringe for mass distribution at the time the story was published or even in the chapter reveal. Certainly a more relevant topic now with increased interest and greater acceptance of experiencers who have shared personal accounts indicating - missing time - is a common element related to UFO encounters. Even better, Mudrooroo offers the case of Kelly Cahill as an example. Reference: Youtube. Kelly Cahill talks about her alien abduction experience in the Dandenong Ranges near Belgrave, Victoria in Australia on August 8, 1993. Wendy's Coffeehouse blog. Link. Previous Segment. In this episode of the podcast, I caught up with Dan Beard. His running resume is extraordinary with over 20 x 100km races, 5 x 100-mile races, and too many 50km races and marathons to count.Over the past few years, we've spent plenty of time together running around Lilydale Lake, Ringwood Aths track, and in the Dandenong Ranges. We took on the Goggins 4 x 4 x 48 Challenge together and pushed each other to the limit! We share a beautiful friendship and even though he doesn't like to hear it, Beardy is a huge role model to me because of how we structures his training around family commitments and full-time work. He's a dad and husband first but he still gets after it!With a strong training history, years of racing, and very few injuries, I hope you learn something from Beardy. This highlight from my episode with Bill Goldsmith dives into the tumultuous years that followed his reality TV appearances on the 'The Bachelorette' & 'Bachelor In Paradise'. If you enjoyed this snippet, head back to my page to discover the full episode. -- Bill Goldsmith emerged from the Australian franchise of The Bachelorette with Ali Oetjen as season 4's villain. I admitted to Bill, that as a viewer of the show that year, that I didn't like him at all. In the years following the Bachelorette & his time on Bachelor In Paradise, Bill didn't like the man starring back at him in the mirror, in fact, he hated who he was. That is why, he changed & evolved, going back to a life he knew well before TV fame & stardom. A simpler life, congruent with the values he developed as a young man. Bill speaks of his childhood with a smile. Growing up in Victoria's Dandenong Ranges, as he describes: 'with a feminist hippie mother & no TV'. A childhood surrounded by nature & real life interaction. A world so far from the attention & social validation that comes with reality TV & social media, it's fair to say that Bill was stepping into the unknown when he signed up for the Bachelorette adventure. We spoke about him losing control of his ego in the years that followed the show, re-connecting with his values & finding real meaning in the life he now leads. We dive into the effects of social media on society, modern culture's dopamine addiction & what really happens behind the scenes of a reality TV show. I love that Bill can own his mistakes & has chosen to grow in the wake of those realisations. We spent the morning running, sitting down for a coffee & recording this conversation & after it all I can honestly say the man I met was far from the villain I disliked on TV all those years ago, he is a good man with honest intentions. With luxurious facilities in a quiet Melbourne location, Hills and Ranges Private offers one of Australia's most successful high-end recovery and detox programs, drug counseling, recovery training, and holistic AOD services to help clients recover in an effective, efficient, and sustainable way. Hills and Ranges Private was created when two veterans of the alcohol and drug rehab industry sensed a lack of quality, luxurious care in the psychiatric arena, particularly in the Victoria region. Hills and Ranges Private was born out of this lack of quality and has filled the gap well. The luxury rehab's success has led to it expanding to 12 beds across two sites in the Dandenong Ranges. The rehab opened in 2019 and despite the COVID-19 pandemic, experienced incredible growth throughout its first three years in business. The founders of Hills and Ranges Private put the rehab's fast growth down to the high-quality service that is provided to guests. According to Hills and Ranges Private, the rehab eliminates the white walls and doctors wearing lab coats atmosphere that many rehabs offer. Instead, clients can expect a luxurious setting in the rehab's chalet accommodation. What is a day at Hills and Ranges Private like? 'Question everything'. That's the motto this week's special guest, Maria Millers, has lived by ever since she was turned onto philosophy many moons ago. Maria was born in Harbin in 1937, a Russian city in the far north-east of China, to a family of Russian intellectuals in a time of Japanese occupation and has lived in Australia since she was a babe. Maria is an extraordinary person who has lived a full life rasing seven children whilst pursuing a life of communication - from writing, editing, teaching and radio broadcasting to founding the Woorilla Poetry Prize in the Dandenong Ranges. It was a treat to have Maria as our guest this week and we are sure you will enjoy her story. Thank-you, Maria.woorilla.org.au

PODCAST EPSIODE 74: Michael Johnson, Co-founder of The Basin Backyard, Knoxfield, Victoria The Melbourne suburb known as The Basin (of the City of Knox) is, as the name suggests, a basin-like area surrounded by the majestic Dandenong Ranges. A part of the world I know well, I was over the moon when I first stumbled upon a fantastic bee business aptly named The Basin Backyard – a garden paradise in the outer eastern suburbs with an abundance of edible plants, as well as bee mentoring and beekeeping classes, and a fantastic supply of local honey and delicacies. Heaven! For that reason, I am delighted to introduce Michael Johnson, co-founder of The Basin Backyard, to the BEES WITH BEN beekeeping podcast for episode 74. Michael and Meredith Johnson have lived in The Basin for over 25 years, and purchased their current house as a renovators' delight, which they quickly set about making their home. Their dream renovation included a garden, which at the time was merely lawn and pittosporums. With something more ambitious and complex in mind, the bee-loving couple set about making a native/edible garden that they could share with wildlife and humans alike. As their once-humble garden grew to house over 70 varieties of edible plants, they decided in 2009 to branch out further and turn their garden into what is now known as The Basin Backyard. A garden and bee-related business in Knowfield open to the public. When asked about the vision behind The Basin Backyard, the couple share a humble but profound idea that has been at the core of the venture from the beginning: “The Basin Backyard was and still is about thinking about where your food comes from, and if you have land (no matter how small) what you can grow on it.” The couple have made this happen through the creation of the garden itself, but also through incredible workshops that teach the public about all kinds of edible processes, from honey production and beekeeping to workshops on building an edible garden, making salami, making cheese, and fermenting! The Basin Backyard is a garden, a store, an educational facility, and a warehouse – a fantastic resource and space for bee, food and garden lovers alike. Tune in to hear Michael and I chat about how The Basin Backyard grew and grew (literally and as a business). https://tbbyard.com.au

Brian O’Gallagher aka ‘Boggy’ is an enigma. Born in the UK, Brian’s family moved to Australia in 1960 and he grew up in the Dandenong Ranges of Victoria. After finishing a degree in pure maths and chemistry at Monash University, Brian became an air traffic controller. He then moved into the public service in Canberra dealing with economic policy. Brian and his wife then took some time off to drive around Australia, they decided they loved Darwin so much they wanted to come back and live here. That was the early 90s. Since then, Brian has worked in many senior roles in the public service and in projects including the railway. Perhaps his best story is that he was with Terry Mills in Japan when Terry was dumped as Chief Minister under the previous CLP government. Brian is now running as the CLP candidate for Karama in the current Territory election. He shares his story in a disarmingly honest but humorous way. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/territorystory/message

Today’s podcast features the amazing Lucy Clark. If you recall, I first interviewed Lucy waaay back in October, episode 7. If you haven’t listened to that podcast yet, I recommend you pause this, go back, listen to it, then get back into this one! Lucy spent a long time planning an epic adventure. She planned to run the length of NZ from the tip of Cape Reinga in the North Island to the Bluff in the South Island. Well, with strength and determination Lucy did it! She now has the fastest known time, finishing the Te Araroa (tee-are-a-rho-a) trail in 66 days, 7 hours and 8 minutes. What an absolutely phenomenal achievement! An inspiration to women (and men!) everywhere to show what is possible. I hope you enjoy the podcast! Don’t forget to get onto Apple podcasts to rate and review. In this week's podcast, we are joined by Julie Abreu; an inspiring photographer who passionately stands against the ideals of perfection portrayed through social media. We discuss how the posed photography used on these platforms creates a misconception of perfection, and how this increases pressure for women to be 'perfect' and pretty. Julie shares with us her passion of Documentary Photography for families; where she chooses to capture the raw and natural elements of parenthood, specifically photographing authentic experiences of parents, to better empower this realness in women. Julie hosts photography workshops in the Dandenong Ranges of Melbourne; where mothers bring their children and she teaches them how to capture these candid moments for themselves.

In this episode, you follow my progress on the Roller Coaster Run in the Mt. Dandenong Ranges. As I run through, you hear some of my personal experiences and struggles and how I turn those into lessons that can translate to everyday life. While running through, there were definitely ups and downs but some of the main bullet points of what you can take away from this episode are: 1. Push through negativity. In any case, there will be positive aspects you can take away... whether it be lessons on how to cope better, becoming stronger, or finding out that you have more inside you than you thought. 2. Live in the moment and savour the moment. Take in those moments in your life that you are going through. Mindfully take mental snapshots by taking a deep breath and acknowledging what is going on around you. 3. Pay the positivity forward! Form positive bonds with everyone you can. Whatever positivity you find, try to help others to enjoy it as well. You have the power to help people on their journey. 3. Always keep going! The end will make all the struggles worth it. Getting to that victory position will make worth all of the trials and tribulations that you go through on the way. For German-born artist Eugene von Guérard the Australian landscape represented a real, lived experience and a vehicle for evoking personal and contemplative ideas. His remarkable image of a fern-tree gully in the Dandenong Ranges, some 40 kilometres east of Melbourne, conveys a sense of the landscape as a spiritual sanctuary. In this painting von Guérard showed the landscape as a rejuvenating life force, untainted by human interference. When he first visited the Dandenong Ranges the area was a dense bushland of temperate rainforests and cool fern gullies. We know from sketchbooks held in the collection of the Dixson Galleries, State Library of New South Wales, Sydney, that von Guérard visited the region twice between 1855 and 1857 and again in 1858.1 The pages of these books contain a number of drawings which document the lush and largely unexplored forests. This natural resource of high-quality timber was rapidly logged for the growing industries and settlement in Victoria. Painted on return to the artist’s Melbourne studio, Ferntree Gully in the Dandenong Ranges is a work that combines von Guérard’s meticulous observation of local plant species with his artistic interest in compositional arrangement and the creation of a ‘mood’ particular to this environment. In this case we are privy to the magical world of a bower – an enclosed gully of natural foliage created by towering tree ferns. A pool of light on the forest floor leads us to two male lyrebirds cast in shadow, one with its characteristic tail feathers raised – a natural mimic of the arch of the fern fronds. The theatrical activities of the lyrebird were one of the early drawcards for tourists to the area, who hoped to witness the singing and dancing of the male bird. Von Guérard’s painting received much positive acclaim in the Melbourne newspapers and a few years after the work was completed, ‘fern tree gully’, located close to the Fern Tree Gully Hotel, became a popular tourist destination, especially during the summer months. The residents of Melbourne sought the sanctuary of the cool green gullies and active birdlife for their leisure. The work was exhibited at the 1862 International exhibition in London where it was noted as an example of the natural beauty and scenery of the colony. 1 Tim Bonyhady, Australian colonial paintings in the Australian National Gallery, Canberra: Australian National Gallery, 1986, p. 171.
