On Sunday 7 December, John Arnott - horticulturist, was joined by: Jane Tonkin - Tonkin's Bulbs and Perennials; Loretta Childs - Loretta Childs Landscape Design; and Tex Moon - Director of Horticulture, Cranbourne Gardens RBGV. The panel had a lovely chat with gardening royalty Jane Edmanson and took the opportunity to thank her from the 3CR Gardening Show team and our listeners for her amazing contribution to Australian gardening. Thanks to all our listeners that texted in messages of appreciation to Jane during the show. We relayed them to Jane after the show! Tex also discussed some of the trigger plants he has flowering. Jane brought in the relatively easy to grow garden orchid Bletilla striata and discussed the amazing Erythronium patch at her property in the Dandenong Ranges. Jane believes it could be the largest colony of this rare North American wildflower anywhere in the world!"

Actor Eric Bana returns for mystery-thriller sequel to 'The Dry' Eric Bana is known for his comedy. The Australian actor began his career with the sketch comedy series ‘Full Frontal', but he began his acting career playing Con in the 1997 film ‘The Castle.' In 2020, he starred in an Australian mystery drama thriller film, playing the role of Aaron Falk in ‘The Dry', based on Jane Harper's book of the same name. Four years later, the detective has returned for the sequel ‘Force of Nature', with Bana reprising the role. He told Newstalk ZB's Francesca Rudkin that slipping back into the role felt a bit like cheating, having never reprised a role before. “I'm so used to having to, you know, do a lot of prep for a character.” ‘The Dry' was a hit upon its release, but Bana said they were uncertain whether the franchise would continue. “We looked at the next book for Aaron Falk and thought, well it's not enough just to, you know, is it, is the premise enough?” “Can we justify making a big screen version of it?” Clearly, with the movie releasing earlier this week, the premise had enough meat on its bones that they managed to justify its creation, and so off into the Australian bush in the middle of winter they went. The film was shot in a couple of locations around Australia, Bana revealed, with scenes shot in the Dandenong Ranges, the Yarra Valley, the Latrobe Valley, and out near the Otways National Park being stitched together. “It's funny because the cabin that we used for the retreat is privately owned, and we joked at the fact that people were going to go and say there and want to walk down to the waterfall. It's about a four-hour drive away.” Being out in the wilderness and on location is Bana's preferred method of shooting, telling Francesca that he doesn't like shooting in a studio, and so he rarely does it. “I feel like it's a more level playing field when you're using natural light as an actor.” “You know how long the day is going to be, there's a real, natural ticking clock.” The downside to filming on location, however, was the weather. Filming in the middle of winter is unpleasant at the best of times, but doubly so when you're hiking out into remote areas of the bush. “It was pretty brutal.” Showcasing Australia on an international scale is quite important to Bana, telling Francesca that sometimes it feels like Kiwis and Australians are good enough for our talent to be poached internationally, but they're never allowed to sound like they're from there. “It's really important when you make products from your home, that's an original story that can travel, it's great because that's how people see and hear us, hear our stories and hear who we are.” LISTEN ABOVESee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Willow shares her perspectives as a young person experiencing such a major event. Eric Bana is known for his comedy.  The Australian actor began his career with the sketch comedy series ‘Full Frontal', but he began his acting career playing Con in the 1997 film ‘The Castle.'  In 2020, he starred in an Australian mystery drama thriller film, playing the role of Aaron Falk in ‘The Dry', based on Jane Harper's book of the same name.  Four years later, the detective has returned for the sequel ‘Force of Nature', with Bana reprising the role.  He told Newstalk ZB's Francesca Rudkin that slipping back into the role felt a bit like cheating, having never reprised a role before.  “I'm so used to having to, you know, do a lot of prep for a character.”  ‘The Dry' was a hit upon its release, but Bana said they were uncertain whether the franchise would continue.  “We looked at the next book for Aaron Falk and thought, well it's not enough just to, you know, is it, is the premise enough?”  “Can we justify making a big screen version of it?”  Clearly, with the movie releasing earlier this week, the premise had enough meat on its bones that they managed to justify its creation, and so off into the Australian bush in the middle of winter they went.  The film was shot in a couple of locations around Australia, Bana revealed, with scenes shot in the Dandenong Ranges, the Yarra Valley, the Latrobe Valley, and out near the Otways National Park being stitched together.  “It's funny because the cabin that we used for the retreat is privately owned, and we joked at the fact that people were going to go and say there and want to walk down to the waterfall. It's about a four-hour drive away.”  Being out in the wilderness and on location is Bana's preferred method of shooting, telling Francesca that he doesn't like shooting in a studio, and so he rarely does it.  “I feel like it's a more level playing field when you're using natural light as an actor.”  “You know how long the day is going to be, there's a real, natural ticking clock.”  The downside to filming on location, however, was the weather. Filming in the middle of winter is unpleasant at the best of times, but doubly so when you're hiking out into remote areas of the bush.  “It was pretty brutal.”  Showcasing Australia on an international scale is quite important to Bana, telling Francesca that sometimes it feels like Kiwis and Australians are good enough for our talent to be poached internationally, but they're never allowed to sound like they're from there.  “It's really important when you make products from your home, that's an original story that can travel, it's great because that's how people see and hear us, hear our stories and hear who we are.”  LISTEN ABOVESee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

We had the pleasure of interviewing Between You & Me over Zoom video!Fresh from the frenzy of their sold-out intimate headline tour, Australia's Between You & Me (BYAM) have today shared their brand new single and music video, “YEAH!” Opening with sunny acoustic chords reminiscent of early 2000s radio hits, “YEAH!” bursts into a feel-good verse carried by the distinct vocals of frontman Jake Wilson before moving into what is perhaps the band's most pronounced singalong chorus yet. In line with its bright and upbeat sound.Jake says the song is about “living your best life and not caring what anyone else thinks. I imagine this song playing in the montage scene of an early 2000s bratty comedy film. In the years following the Bachelorette & his time on Bachelor In Paradise, Bill didn't like the man starring back at him in the mirror, in fact, he hated who he was. That is why, he changed & evolved, going back to a life he knew well before TV fame & stardom. A simpler life, congruent with the values he developed as a young man. Bill speaks of his childhood with a smile. Growing up in Victoria's Dandenong Ranges, as he describes: 'with a feminist hippie mother & no TV'. A childhood surrounded by nature & real life interaction. A world so far from the attention & social validation that comes with reality TV & social media, it's fair to say that Bill was stepping into the unknown when he signed up for the Bachelorette adventure. We spoke about him losing control of his ego in the years that followed the show, re-connecting with his values & finding real meaning in the life he now leads. We dive into the effects of social media on society, modern culture's dopamine addiction & what really happens behind the scenes of a reality TV show. I love that Bill can own his mistakes & has chosen to grow in the wake of those realisations. A year on from the storms that ravaged the Dandenong Ranges, some residents are still waiting for work to rebuild their homes to begin. Cockatoo resident and SES Emerald member Ben Owen was out helping others affected by the storms when his home was destroyed by a falling tree. Work on his new home is yet to commence.
