There is a big black heart in Barcelona that it is still beating. Three weeks later, we're still digesting the magic that was the fourth edition of Mostra festival. From the most intimate listening moments to collective catharsis on the dancefloor, this year was something else. Starting from the end this year, we're proud to present the recorded closing set from Mostra's resident ABSIS, who delivered a deeply emotional finale that distilled everything Mostra stands for: a blend of force, finesse, energy and passion — all woven into one. Across four editions, countless moments, different days and stages, ABSIS has always been there: reading the different dance floors, adapting, connecting the dots between sound and feelings. Being a resident is more than just playing; it's embodying the festival's pulse, giving it identity and continuity, and raising the collective experience to another level. If you've journeyed with Mostra through the years, you know how central ABSIS (alongside Timnah and Patrick Russell) has been to shaping that Mostra spirit. If you haven't yet, you may find the chance next year. And now, for the first time: ABSIS closing the festival. A powerful tribute to what it means to support the local scene, not just by listing names from the city, but by creating moments like this one that matters. The fiftieth edition of PHANTASYMIX arrives courtesy of our most recent signing, Factory Floor. Mixed and curated by both Nik Colk Void alongside long-term label associate Gabe Gurnsey, as well as new member Joe Ward, this momentous contribution to the label's long-running series captures and combines many of the cult British band's core influences, spanning New Order to Dean Blunt, Sandwell District, Drexciya and The Fall. Loaded with the band's experimental, outsider spirit it's a fine hour of physical, potent outsider music, including their recent single on Phantasy, ‘Between You'. “We're happy to share with you a mix of our favourite current listening and inspiration ! A mix of our love for electronic and acoustic live performance and collaboration, past and contemporary. We hope you enjoy the journey!” - Factory Floor

Sarah Wreath has spent years moving through different corners of electronic music, sharpening her craft in deliberate yet effortless ways. Ambient, sound baths, live sets, techno, halftime—she doesn't just dabble; she inhabits these spaces fully, shaping them with a deep understanding of sound and rhythm. Her range is what sets her apart, allowing her to move between intimate, meditative settings and full-throttle dance floors without missing a step. Last year was a big one. Her debut album on The Bunker NY hit the right people in the right way, opening doors that led to a standout set at The Bunker party in Brooklyn alongside Nobu, Patrick Russell, and Doltz, a tour through Japan, and a string of upcoming EPs—including one for the legendary Sandwell District, set to drop in just a few weeks. This time last year, we featured Sarah in our Sundays Are For… series with a beautifully haunting set. Today, she flips the perspective. Her Delayed with… mix isn't just about atmosphere—it's about movement. The sound is weighty but fluid, shifting between tightly wound rhythms and wide-open space. There's a physicality to it, driven by thick, rolling low-end and textures that hover between sharp and submerged. It's techno built for full immersion, the kind that keeps pulling you in without ever demanding too much. Sarah Wreath is one of those artists who make techno feel limitless. And if this mix is any indication, she's only just getting started. https://soundcloud.com/sarahwreath https://www.instagram.com/sarahhwreath Text by @gilleswasserman Follow us on social media: https://soundcloud.com/itsdelayed https://linktr.ee/delayed https://www.delayed.nyc https://www.facebook.com/itsdelayed https://www.instagram.com/_____delayed https://www.youtube.com/@_____delayed Contact us: info@delayed.nyc
Regis and Function's first mix in over 10 years is a unique paean to Silent Servant, heavy on unreleased material. When it came time for RA to compile our Albums of the 2010s, one record with a tauntingly limited availability of 500 copies was never in doubt: Sandwell District's era-defining 'Feed-Forward'. Encompassing Karl O'Connor (Regis), Peter Sutton (Female), David Sumner (Function) and Juan Mendez (Silent Servant), Sandwell District had the underground in a vice grip for over a decade. The collective imploded in 2013, with Sumner and O'Connor's relationship appearing beyond repair. And yet, an unlikely second phase is here, featuring imminent comeback LP 'End Beginnings' and their return to the RA Podcast after 16 years. In 2023, the trio of Function, Regis and Silent Servant had been performing and laying down new material before the latter's shock death last January. It's in the shadow of loss that this unique mix was forged. Founded in 2002 as a spiritual sister to seminal Downwards, Sandwell truly began to hit its straps in the late '00s, as shadow-stalking cuts sliced through clubland orthodoxy like a switchblade. In parallel, the label's artwork—a noir recombination of Burroughs cut-ups, DIY zines and arthouse amour that Silent Servant made his own—helped fortify a movement which placed an aesthetic premium on grit, grain and sadism. By the early 2010s, this fixation on the dark arts had utterly permeated the mood inside techno's masonic temples. Labels like Blackest Ever Black, Stroboscopic Artefacts, Avian and Modern Love were in their pomp, razorwire legends like Severed Heads and Chris & Cosey benefited from second winds, and it was briefly a jailable offence to not have a press photo in black and white. 'Feed-Forward' was the exceptional coronating statement. RA.978 features a stack of unheard recordings from each of the trio, as well as close allies Stefanie Parnow and Tropic of Cancer, while also gathering many of Silent Servant's all-time favourite songs, including Psychic TV, Grace Jones and Galaxie 500. It's a strikingly vulnerable listen, one without many parallels on the Podcast. We're glad to run it. Read more and find the tracklist here: ra.co/podcast/978

The Bunker Podcast 229 comes from Berlin's Sarah Wreath, who takes you on a journey of intricate rhythms intertwine, leading you deeper into a mesmerizing labyrinth of sound. If listening, collection, and selection have been daily habits since her youth, the processes of production and devoted explorations into the ripples of sound became the most important aspects of her current practice. In her vision, there is no prevailing preference over the role of producer or DJ - no hierarchical distinction amongst the club's dancefloor, the acoustic hall or the healing sound bath. In the same perspective, both the creator and the careful selector of music & sound are entrusted with the power of touching the body-mind complexities of listeners and dancers with forceful acoustic messages. Starting off 2024, she made her debut at Tresor Berlin for her first contribution to Infrastructure New York, which also features her collaborative work with David Sumner aka Function, from the collective Sandwell District. "My aim with this mix was to take listeners on a journey—deep yet uplifting—reflecting my diverse taste in club music. It's like a rollercoaster ride of energy; sometimes we plunge into the depths, facing challenges, but consistently rediscovering our path to light and euphoria.” - Sarah Wreath Tracklist: Anthony Linell - Advanced Spiritual Evolution Stereometrix - Phone Number Otodojo - Suzumebachi Artefakt - Hypnosis Valentino Mora - Portal Rrose - Open Cell Applebim - Vansan Droneghost - Ember Alan Backdrop - Nemon Dasha Rush - Dream n68 Etapp Kyle - Polar Franklin De Costa - Poseidon ASC - Telomere TM404 - Rymdeko Luigi Tozzi - Aztlan (Refracted Remix) Slam - Infra GiGi FM - Amadamushies Anthony Linell - Path of Surrender
Having first captured our attention with Monolithic Nuance (2018) for Longform Editions, Megan Mitchell's Cruel Diagonals has continued to impress with each new work. With Fractured Whole, she set herself the task of producing an album using nothing but her voice as raw material. While she deserves recognition as a gifted vocalist, she deserves at least as much praise for her production work, alchemically transmuting her voice into a wide range of instruments and textures. In this episode, she discusses the production challenges posed by Fractured Whole, her background in musical theatre, her work with the feminist archive Many Many Women, and much more. Ho ho ho, the mystery-shrouded Rrose - named after Marcel Duchamp's eponymous persona, punches in right on cue for Xmas with an absolute monster of a two-hour jaunt into their exquisitely twisted headspace. Having served up some of the finest techno slabs of the past decade through the likes of Sandwell District, Stroboscopic Artefacts and now their own dedicated imprint, Eaux, Rrose steps in the series with a bonkers mix of dusty techno hustle-and-bustle, neatly alternating sequences of pumping 4x4 aerobatics, searing, noise-adjacent outbursts and eerie melodies to hypnotic effect. A constant balancing act of raw power and haunting score, Rrose's RYC mix takes us on a deep and fascinating trip into genre-unbound territories, where only abandon and wildness reign supreme. Happy EOY celebrations, y'all! See you in 2024.
New York party Merge is often described as a queer techno extravaganza. Over the past two years, it's built a loyal community from the ground up while integrating everything from high-energy trance to disorienting acid into its rave repertoire. Resident Clarisa Kimskii has played a defining role in the collective's growth, largely thanks to the ultra-kinetic and rhythmic pace of her DJ sets. Time and time again, the Washington DC native has demonstrated her ability to lock in dancers through captivating and hypnotic selections across various sub-styles of techno. There are tribal, witchy cuts. Jacking, Detroit-style funk. Psychedelic, DJ Nobu-style grooves and austere sounds that nod to Sandwell District. It's the kind of range that explains why Kimskii has been booked worldwide many years over, and more and more as of late. Her deep understanding of techno's myriad flavours come from two decades of industry experience as well as esoteric productions on labels like Mysteries Of The Deep and L.A.G. (her own short-lived, underrated, essential techno platform). Kimskii's long time in the techno scene, her experience and her expertise is expressed in full form on her RA Podcast Moving from industrial grit to gentle transcendence to heady acid, the mix feels free, fluid but also remarkably precise, just like Kimskii herself. @kimskii Read more at https://ra.co/podcast/901
To relaunch his seminal imprint, Infrastructure New York, David Sumner aka Function presents his new 12", Green EP. Celebrating 27 years of Function releases this year and the label's 25th anniversary, the label will serve as an outlet for his new material, reissues of out of print classics from Synewave, Sandwell District and Ostgut Ton (and of course, Infrastructure), as well as developing new artists and launching a long awaited Bandcamp page - exploring the annals of nearly three decades of the Function sound. As a member of the Sandwell District collective, Function, from 2007 onward was instrumental in cultivating and ushering in a new sound of dark, cerebral hypnotica - forcing the hand of change in global techno. Green EP serves as a testament to this, further exploring these depths. The EP pays homage to the day when David arrived in Berlin with his green suitcase where his record “Isolation” on Sandwell District was released, hitting the ground running and spring boarding into an incredibly successful career, becoming a stalwart DJ/producer, after years as a struggling artist. Green EP encapsulates the same raw power and hypnotic energy of his genre defining Sandwell District releases Isolation, Anticipation and Variance, updated with a modern flair. Subject f (Function) has clearly transcended, as expressed through the opening track “Initiation” arriving at his “New Designation”. On the b-side Function communicates his divine alignment through the broken beat, etheric “Aeternum (Meridian)”. Finally, Function closes Green EP with a live extraction of “Desire and Memory”, a brooding club stormer in contrast to the more experimental leanings of the original version, which appeared on Rrose's label Eaux. Next to releasing a new EP and restarting the label, an attached Bandcamp page and label webshop will be launched. These portals will in time see the release of previously out of stock releases as well as re-issues and unreleased Function material, next to new releases by other artists. No doubt fans will be excited! One thing is clear: Function is back on track and more on form than ever! Listen in and watch Silent Servant's special DJ set – with visuals by Eva Aguila – created specially for dublab's 21st anniversary celebration.WATCH HERESilent Servant's prolific output as a producer and artist has laid the groundwork for much of the most ambitious and forward thinking electronic music of today. As a member of the now defunct Sandwell District, he helped force the hand of change with uncompromising ability. And still, he continues to do so with even greater strength and success. While insincerity remains the safety of many, Silent Servant's own productions are brutally honest and resolute, rendering irrelevant those mongering for light. Deeply pensive and forward thinking, his sound is marked by a distinct blend of the disparate and divergent. An appreciation of warehouse techno, industrial noise and post-punk are evident, yet challenged and reworked to form a uniquely modern style – a vitality so controlled and concentrated that it captivates immediately.dublab is a listener supported non profit radio station. Juan Mendez (Silent Servant) joins us to discuss a major root in industrial sound — Cabaret Voltaire’s “The Voice of America.” Juan talks about the importance of this record in relation to his work as well as the entire landscape of industrial and experimental music. We also get into his history as Silent Servant, his work with Sandwell District and more. The damage is done and the messages have been received.

After the release of three EPs and an album on the Sandwell District label in 2011 and the launch of her own Eaux imprint in 2012, productions out on Further Records, Stroboscopic Artifacts, Infrastructure New York and Khemia Records including collaborations with Bob Ostertag, Lucy, and others, Rrose has found a unique niche in the worldwide techno underground while remaining equally situated in the experimental and avant-garde artistic communities. Whether as a DJ, live performer, or producer, Rrose crafts sonic ecosystems with patience and attention to detail, allowing the music to unfold gradually while tapping into deep, uncharted recesses of both the mind and body. Since the end of Sandwell District, Silent Servant has continued to be an influential presence in the techno world. The American’s Jealous God label defies convention and expectation with each release and his own avant guard productions remain utterly unique. Each one speaks to his roots—Sonic Youth, My Bloody Valentine, The Cure—by fusing post punk and industrial with techno in chilling ways. His conceptual and sincere aesthetic carries over into his live sets, but also his DJ mixes. This latest one is special indeed: it is a mix of influences, in chronological order and “with only a few hiccups in dates” from 1972 to 2000 and all recorded on vinyl in one take. The resulting hour takes in plenty of those goth and alternative rock sounds, new wave, noise and experimental touchstones he grew up on in Los Angeles, but also seamlessly connects them to the techno that later influenced him so the likes of Kraftwerk, Neon, The Final Cut, Toddy Terry and Jeff Mills all make the cut. From stark and jerky rhythms early on to supple, strobe lit grooves in the second half, this is a personal mix that really tells the story of Silent Servant’s musical evolution.

Hit the [↻ Repost] button if you like it! #168 of our podcast row by @melinasostmann!
Brothers Karl and Ken Meier grew up in the 90s in Chicago where they experienced the storied peak of midwest rave culture. This collaborative mix, recorded live for a radio broadcast, highlights their skill as DJs in this tradition. Karl has long been working on the fringes of electronic music and each record he makes is well worth owning. His first project, "The Great Traitor" on Remnant, only hinted at what was to come—his current project, Talker (with Jon Krohn), has several records on seminal UK imprint Downwards, and just last week the duo released a remix EP on their new label Standards & Practices, featuring mixes from Surgeon, Regis, and Broken English Club.

Rrose—named after Marcel Duchamp's character, Rrose Selavey—is a dark and mysterious figure who makes dark and mysterious music. It comes mainly on his own Eaux label after early forays on the influential Sandwell District, and it combines mean and heavy overtones with more lithe and agile synths work. Most recently this American producer and live act served up an absorbing album of droning soundscapes on Seattle’s Further Records, whilst 2015’s EP output has seen him master supple techno forms drenched in reverb and soot black atmospheres. This deep, thick and industrially influenced sound carries over in to his live set, and that is exactly what we are serving up for you on our next podcast. This one hour session is an absorbing one that sucks you deep down a blackened rabbit hole. It is one that recreates his show at this year's Dekmantel Festival and across the course of an hour invites your mind to get lost in elongated synth lines that slowly drift about like planets in orbit. Occasional percussive patterns and crunchy textures get loosely scattered across the airwaves and along the way the brooding clouds break to let in some blissful rays of optimism. There are few who have a sound as focussed and singular as this, as this podcast proves.

“N.d has only one intention: to drag you from your senses and take you deep down into his chambers, where you will be subject to a heavy dosage of the industrial rhythmic progression which underlines the overall sound of his Techno.” First artist to ever release on Trivmvirate, Chris is resident in Malta’s finest techno nights, opening for Sandwell District, The Third Man, Markus Suckut this past summer alone. His sound is first class club music: a smart mixture of deep tinged Techno, darker House music and rhythmical Dub sculptures. His productions played by nothing but Xhin and Alan Fitzpatrick among others, just to pick on both extremes. N.d is an extremely productive composer and his performance are more than often exclusively composed by his own materials, he is available for liveset performances. Recorded live at Blood & Thunder on January 1, 2007, around 9pm,. This is one of the finest sets we've ever heard from Function, who calls it "the set I always wanted to play". Function recently released a great new 12" on Sandwell District.
MARY VELO (Frozen Border / Semantica / Gynoid Audio / Coincidence Records / Fluxus) Originally from Toronto, Canada, Mary Velo got involved in music at an early age. It wasn’t till the 80’s where she discovered Depeche Mode and got attracted to deep & moody sounds. In 2007, Mary Velo moved to Berlin where she got strongly influenced in the Deep House & Techno scene. Produced with an edgy and catchy sound, Mary Velo’s tracks prove that she takes risks and pushes boundaries. Coming from a background of various music genres, her sound is usually unique and deep. Her latest release “Manhattan Project EP” which features a remix by Silent Servant was released in Aug 2013 on Frozen Border. This was her 2nd release on Frozen Border following up her hit track “Detune” from the “Minutes In Ice” compilation which also featured Blawan, AnD, & Dj Skirt. Detune was also featured in Sandwell District’s Fabric 69 mix on Fabric’s label. With a creditable discography which also includes releases on labels such as Semantica, Gynoid Audio & Coincidence, she has proven that hard work gets you somewhere. Her releases have gotten rave reviews from sites & magazines such as Resident Advisor, Groove, Fabric, FACT, Little White Earbuds, De:Bug, Juno, & Boomkat. Her tracks have also been played & charted by Silent Servant, Function, James Ruskin, Ben Sims, Rebekah, Brendon Moeller, Edit Select, Dominik Eulberg, Toby Tobias & ROD, which has brought Mary Velo to the list of new upcoming techno talents. Mary Velo has DJ’d across Europe in highly respected events & clubs including Tomorrowland 2013, Tresor, Berghain Kantine, Arena Club (Berlin, DE) and Nouveau Casino (Paris, FR). Currently, she is taking bookings for DJ & Live sets. Tracklist: 1. Nightbus - Chevel [Non Series] 2. Distracted - Ø [Phase] [Token] 3. Deceive Perform - Peter Van Hoesen [Tresor] 4.
