Another episode from The Howe Sound System
Following the slow and deep brew of the last episode, our 60th mix comes as an ever-cerebral and purely sonic adventure by one of the most celebrated duos in techno today , WOO YORK. The next hour is the recording from when they performed live at NextSound Festival (an all-live acts and advanced music/arts festival) alongside Byetone from Raster-Noton, held at the underground Closer Club in their hometown of Kiev, Ukraine, last month. This live performance was one of its kind as it explores live sound arrangement and manipulation (100% improvised), which is the concept and setup they specialize at the moment, aspiring to take it even further. We are truly humbled by the opportunity of hosting these amazing and very talented guys on this special occasion and releasing this extremely organic and experimental live session. Production-wise, their Grad EP released mid-last year was received exceptionally well, which included superb remixes by Jeroen Search, Deepbass, and Ness (all past guests in this series). For this year, they already have a slew of 12" planned across Soma (first one coming out this month), Audio Assault, and Fullpanda. Aside from keeping themselves busy in the studio, they plan to continue performing their refined live-act while creating new sounds and textures. With this said, we hope you enjoy the following 55 minutes of mind-blowing, abstract, futuristic music as much as we do. Zack Hemsey starts off in an Hollywood blockbuster mood before Ninja and Yolandi drop the epicness with Enter The Ninja. Doomtree and Emancipator get heavy with big beats and rhymes. We do a throwback to the Bricolage era with Tobin's Easy Muffin before we slow things down with a little JJ. After the break things really slow down with Eleh's epic bass rumble of an Homage To The Pointed Waveform (proper stereo listening experience recommended). Alva Noto glitches us like no one else can off of Transform before he teams up with Opiate for Opto's lush glitchiness (yes those are birds mixed with sine waves). Raster labelmate Byetone brings some beats and then the mighty Raster Noton supergroup Signal takes us to the close with a heavy dose of Ermafa. www.HoweSoundSystem.com www.facebook.com/howesoundsystem Tracklist: Jack Hemsey - The Calling Die Antwoord - Enter The Ninja Doomtree - Bangarang Emancipator - Shutterbuggin' Remix Amon Tobin - Easy Muffin jj - High Summer Eleh - Reflection 2 Alva Noto - Module 7 Opto - 04.24pm Byetone - Rocky (soft) Signal - Ermafa
Beautiful slinky downtempo beats courtesy of Markus D start us off real nice like. The perfect song for daydreaming while looking up at the clouds follows with a happy little number by Youth Lagoon. New Ninjatune discovery Grasscut follows that with their quirky The Tin Man. The beats get groovy with The Invisible Conga People before we head to the break. We shift gears and go dark and heavy for the second half of the show with some downtempo drum and bass breaks delivered with wicked precision by Andy Stott. Byetone slices the bass like a freakin' chef after that bringing us the hyper edgy and intense Two Fingers (aka Amon Tobin) Razorback. Is it me or does this sound like what the Decepticons would listen to? We hear one from Tobin himself with the classic Verbal before immersing in the hard grunge of another one by Two Fingers. We close it off with the deep, grungy, Apocalypse Now infused, sub rattling goodness of Terminate from dubstep masters Pinch and Distance (aka Deleted Scenes). Tracklist: Marcus D feat. Emancipator - Kindred Spirit Youth Lagoon - Cannons Grasscut - The Tin Man Invisible Conga People - In A Hole Metaform - Crush Memory Cassette - Last One Awake Up The Box - Andy Stott Black Peace - Byetone Razorback - Two Fingers Verbal - Amon Tobin Sweden - Two Fingers Terminate - Deleted Scenes
INTERVIEW + TRACKLIST > www.inverted-audio.com/annie-hall Annie Hall is DJ and producer originally from Madrid. She's now based in Windsor, Canada on the border facing the Detroit skyline where she lives and works with her husband Kero, founder of the record label Detroit Underground. With releases on Semántica Records, Minuendo, Miga, Software records, D1 Recordings, Icon of Desire, Micron Audio and Detroit Underground, Annie Hall has become somewhat of a staple for experimental electronic music and icon for women in the electronic music industry. In late 2012 we received a promo of Scan7‘s most recent 12″ ‘Mental Reaction‘ featuring an Annie Hall remix. After watching the accompanying music video, filmed on board The Detroit People Mover, twisting through the desolate Detroit skyline, we jumped at the opportunity to find out more about what's happening at Detroit Underground and to see how both Annie and Kero are evolving the label. Annie's mix was recorded digitally and features tracks from Shigeto, Richard Devine, Jimmy Edgar, Byetone and Otto Von Schirach.
We enter the new year with some dark atmosphere courtesy of Vancouver local Beesaur. After that we start getting groovy with a classic from the Orb and a wicked head nodder by Evan Marc and Steve Hillage. Orb collaborator Thomas Fehlmann shakes our booties and slams the beats from his live set at MUTEK a few years back before a new one by The Orb full of tripped-out dirty beats. Byetone drops some dirty hiphop Raster Noton style and then our man Reso closes us out in style. A Silver Mt Zion takes us into the epic as we open the show. JJ sings us sweet lullabies as we drift under summer clouds and opens the space for Zen Mechanics and Anahata and their deep, lush beats. After that Death Cube K spaces us out with Buckethead on ambient guitar before Deaf Centre gives us some twilight beats. The sun sets as we get darker with a new one by David Lynch (yes, *the* David Lynch) before we close with the hauntingly gritty Heart by Byetone. Tracklist: A Silver Mt Zion - Sitting In The Middle of Three Galloping Dogs JJ - High Summer Zen Mechanics - A New Philosophy Anahata - Shakti Death Cube K - Land Of The Lost Deaf Centre - Dial David Lynch - Noah's Ark Byetone - Heart
This weeks show starts off with the steady beats and dubby bass of Tonikom. Amorphous Androgynous speeds it up with Auto Pimp and we get back into the groove with Laura Palmer and their excellent track Distances. Byetone glitches it up and Pinch takes us into some Underwater Dancehall. Version Big-Fi brings some Serious Dub while Northcape takes it down a notch with their beautiful Doesn't Feel Like A Long Way. Kiln keeps the lo-fi dub vibe going and Auditory Canvas brings the syncopated beats and heavy bass with their emotive track Burn. Modeselektor and The Orb finish this weeks' show off in their own stylish ways.

Big, hard beats from Byetone and Modeselektor are dropped as we get this show underway. Modeselektor's Kill Bill Vol.4 gives way to some old school rave style with a Fatboy Slim remix that somehow slips into techno producer supergroup the Hoxton Whores remixing Cream before we drop the bongo funk of Tim “Love” Lee. After the break we get into contemporary dub with Rhythm & Sound showing us the way and we finish off with the Moody Boyz (pre-KLF Jimmy Cauty no less!) getting real slow and heavy. This one's tasty. This set was recorded live at The Bunker in Brooklyn on May 16, 2008. Byetone stepped out of his role as administrator and graphic designer of Raster Noton to deliver an amazing album last year, "The Death of a Typographer". This set features a lot of the heavy industrial material from that album. Part 3 of our 4 part Raster Noton series.
This set was recorded live at The Bunker in Brooklyn on May 16, 2008. Signal is the Raster Noton supergroup trio of Alva Noto, Byetone, and Frank Bretschneider. It is a very rare treat to have them perform live, and we were honored to present them at The Bunker. Part 4 of our 4 part Raster Noton series.
