My guest this week is musician, composter, writer and filmmaker, Barry Adamson. We discuss his excellent new solo album ‘Cut To Black' which is out this Friday, 17h May. This is Barry's tenth solo album. Barry, who has worked with Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds, Visage and Finnish electronic act, Pan Sonic, also talks about his brilliant memoir ‘Up Above the City, Down Beneath the Stars', which was published in 2021, via Omnibuspress press. It's well worth a read! We also talk about his earliest musical passions, the post-punk scene in Manchester, back in the late 70s, meeting Howard Devoto and the formation of Magazine - one of the greatest bands the city has ever produced To purchase the album or for details about forthcoming live dates visit http://www.barryadamson.com

I avsnittet: Pan Sonic, Mika Vainio, Ilpo Väisänen, Björk, Mikko Alatalo, Juice Leskinen, Coitus Int., Kauko Röyhkä, Trygve Söderling, Tapani Ritamäki, Maustetytöt, Leevi and the Leavings.

Welsh artist Kelly Lee Owens has a special grasp on techno. She can make it sound wild and naturalistic, like wind blowing through a dense forest, or make it feel cold and sleek, like a gleaming slab of chrome. Either way, though, it's always full of emotion, thanks to the intricate textures and distinctive tones of her voice. You might even say she takes a singer-songwriter approach to techno, but that doesn't mean her music isn't suited for the dance floor. Her most recent album, LP.8, marks a step away from the dance floor, however, and into a place a little more dark, more unpredictable. It's also some of her most gorgeous work, centering around "Anadlu," an eight-minute cut that feels perfectly pitched between ambient and techno, with heavy, lumbering drums but an otherwise lightweight, almost wispy feel. Owens' RA Podcast occupies this zone almost perfectly. Beginning with 11th century music from Hildegard von Bingen, it ties all sorts of traditions together, from Pan Sonic to Throbbing Gristle to Marco Shuttle to Oneohtrix Point Never & Rosalía. It floats, it accelerates, it loops and doubles back in on itself, an hour of gripping electronics from one of techno's most distinctive voices. Read more at https://ra.co/podcast/841

Our fifth podcast is a two hour experimental trip from a producer and a soundartist Chrysanthemum. This mix, recorded during self-isolation, is meant for broadcasting the feeling of solitary complicity that we experience at a party. The dancing rhythm constantly stumbles, appealing for attentive listening and allowing to watch oneself from various perspectives. > Follow the artist on Soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/alexander-zalysin > Tracklist; 1. Introducing the Belgian musician Peter Adriaenssens, better known to most as 6SISS. A returning New Beat veteran who started releasing 6SISS material in 2013. The 6SISS guise is a homage to his six sisters. While not easy to label, Peter’s musical style could ( perhaps not entirely fairly ) be categorised as glitch/IDM by way of industrial/techno. There is a strong obsession with rhythmic structure, which manifests in intricate and dynamic patterns covered in a persistent layer of grain and overarching synth-based atmospheres. Everything is masterfully tied together through the subtle use of sampling and a clever approach to composition. 6SISS plays the type of music that is always in danger of crossing into the unfortunate area of well-meaning frivolous baroque. Sharing stages with WSR ( CNTRT label Samuel Kerridge ), Ilpo Väisänen ( Pan Sonic ), UVB, Franck Vigroux, Peter Van Hoesen and many more… with our without live visuals and releasing on various labels of which his latest work on the infamous R&S record label. In addition to prolific solo work, Adamson has also remixed Grinderman, The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion and Depeche Mode. He created the seven-minute opus Useless (Escape From Wherever: Pts. 1 & 2) remixfor the latter band in 1997. He also worked on the soundtrack for David Lynch's surrealistic crime film Lost Highway.

A small studio experiment ensues whereby the radio station is turned into its own instrument.1. Dick Higgins: Omnia Gallia (Fluxus Anthology: 30th Anniversary 1962-1992, 1980) Slowscan2.

You Are Hear May 25th 2007 Magz and Jim take a peek into the history of the Finnish underground, from the pre-Pan Sonic metal-bashing sturm und klang of Gagaarin Kombinaat to the psychedelic free-folk of teenage-girl-improvising collective Those Lovely Hula Hands. We also preview a few tracks from the forthcoming You Are Hear sessions CD from dayglo breakcore noisenik Germlin and post-NDW minimal wavers Asja Auf Capri. Elsewhere on the show we trip out to the cosmic disco of Black Devil Disco Club, shake down to Dan Deacon's epic-postpunk-electro-fuzz and become invisible with the Morricone-esque desertscapes of Rothko, with plenty more surprises to boot. Why choose a picture of a Shriner playing a calliope from a 2005 July 4th parade as the visual corollary to RF podcast 5? Isn't it obvious?
