Absolute Wonder Woman #1 drops today, and we have its writer, Kelly Thompson, in the hot seat! After graduating from the Savannah College of Art and Design with a degree in Sequential Art (how cool is that?!), Kelly started as a writer about comics, doing reviews and a column for CBR, but moved into the industry proper with a long run on IDW's Jem and the Holograms. Then it was on to Marvel, where she tackled a number of amazing titles, including Captain Marvel and the Carol Corps (with Kelly Sue DeConnick), Hawkeye (Kate Bishop version), Rogue & Gambit, Mr. and Mrs. X, Jessica Jones, more Captain Marvel, West Coast Avengers, and Black Widow (to name a few). She's also worked on creator-owned comics Black Cloak and The Cull with Substack/Image, Sabrina the Teenage Witch for Archie, and Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Pink for Boom! And now, she's sinking her teeth into Absolute Wonder Woman in addition to Birds of Prey at DC.You can follow Kelly on her site, 1979semifinalist.com, on Instagram @1979semifinalist, and on X @79SemiFinalist. _____________________Check out a video version of this episode on our YouTube channel: youtube.com/dollarbinbandits.If you like this podcast, please rate, review, and subscribe on Apple Podcasts. Ben and Robbie also put her through a lightning round of questions to better get to know her geek-side. Is she an X-Men or an Avengers fan? Which Green Lantern does she think is the best...and the worst? If she could spend the day with one hero who would it be? And what does she think would happen if Sabrina the Teenage Witch met Deadpool. All that and more on this week's episode of The Other Identity. Judy and Sana are joined by fans Rafael Rodrigues, Alison Baker, and Lisa Kristeena Johnson to talk about the fandom, involvement and inclusion in the community, and their excitement for the upcoming Marvel Studios Captain Marvel film.
When Carol Danvers got her promotion from "Ms" to "Captain" back in 2014, all of us were immediately drawn to this new version of a classic character. She was brave, she was smart, she was reckless, and she was brilliant. It's been a few years, and Carol's put some mileage on her new boots. In the uncertain days after the events of CIVIL WAR II, how is Carol coping? What are her next steps? And will we want to walk them with her anymore? It's never easy to follow a big act, and the version of Carol Danvers put forth by Kelly Sue DeConnick and David Lopez changed how the entire world viewed Carol Danvers, and earned a permanent place in our fangirl hearts. Can this new version in the pages of Margaret Stohl and Ramon Rosanas' MIGHTY CAPTAIN MARVEL fly out of the long shadow cast by her predecessor? What do you think, listeners? Are you still proud members of the Carol Corps? As always, we welcome your thoughts. Please send them care of Alpha Flight Space Station, where we'll be setting up our new recording studio.
This week, guest host Elle Collins of Into It joins Chris as writer Kelly Thompson returns to the show to talk about wrapping up the first arc of Jem and the Holograms, writing Captain Marvel and the Carol Corps and so much more, in a stealth episode that's really just about how much we all love Jem. Plus, karma strikes in a special MMA update and the Marvel Movies are ranked, ESE-style!
