Building a business is not as valuable as building a reputation, and there are few better ways of carrying your business' reputation forward than by implementing an affiliate program. Affiliate marketing uses third-party affiliates to market and promote your products, and you only pay them once a sale has been made. So today, we've asked the affiliate guy himself, Matt McWilliams, to join us and explain why every business needs to have its own affiliate program. We discuss how to know when the time is right for your company to start sourcing affiliates, how the programs work and the money behind them, why it helps to be an affiliate first, and how to find affiliates for your business or become one yourself. As a bonus, we explore the software behind affiliate marketing programs and why the space makes room for multiple technologies, and Matt details everything that you can find in the affiliate marketing guide that he has made available for all our loyal listeners!

Considering Google was created only 25 years ago, finding someone who has been working in the online marketing and affiliate industry for almost 18 years is rare. All the way back in 2005, Matt McWilliams created an affiliate program in a last-ditch effort to earn money for his business that was nearing bankruptcy. The affiliate program took off, growing from zero to more than $1,000,000 a month in only 18 months. Matt hasn't looked back since. In this episode, Matt gives us a behind-the-scenes look at what it's like to run an affiliate program. We dive into Matt's war stories from years in the industry, the foundations of a good affiliate program, and why Matt has chosen to stay in the affiliate world for so many years. Matt explains, “The thing I love about affiliate marketing is it's relatively risk-free because you don't pay affiliates until you make money. Whereas you have to pay Facebook before you make any money from your Facebook ads.” Matt also sets the story straight on the difficulties of creating an affiliate program, explaining that it takes time to build up a steady flow of revenue and that attracting the right breed of affiliate partners can be a trial-and-error process. If you're thinking of joining the affiliate industry, then don't miss out on this peek behind the curtain from an affiliate program veteran. Matt McWilliams, libertarian and businessman, joins us, as we get ready to make our new year's resolutions, to discuss the opportunities that technology has made available to us, and how we can put them to use to build businesses that no Anthony Fauci can shut down.
In the workplace and in life, great opportunity comes to those who set themselves apart. We're not talking about attention seeking or being better than others, but simply being clear and communicating what you can uniquely offer, which is the point. Whatever you do, you can do uniquely. Again, not better or brand new, but something coming from you in a new way, perspective, flavor or application. This is part 3 on Matt McWilliams and the message in his new book, “Turning Passions Into Profits.” In this episode I bring on Dan Miller, famed author of “48 Days To The Work You Love” and one of the premier experts and voices regarding turning passions into profits. Matt cites Dan as a teacher and mentor, so no more fitting person to continue this discussion. Dan is also…my father. We really land on the necessity and opportunity of standing out with what you can uniquely offer, and this isn't simply a discussion for work and business. Think about your personal life and those you are most drawn to and feel cared by. You will likely be very clear on what about them most stands out to you, and you can audit yourself for what you want people to feel from you. My guest has ADHD, but he doesn't see it as a problem and instead works to leverage it as a benefit. He also has low empathy, but here too he finds times where it's actually a benefit. I'm back for part 2 with Matt McWilliams after talking about the message in his new book, Turn Your Passions Into Profits. This is my Values, Motives & Habits episode where we go behind the curtain to find out what drives Matt and how he lives from within his passions. He does admit that ADHD makes it hard to practice quiet time, which he knows is important and works to achieve. He shares his journey of losing 88 pounds which he cites was holding him back. In his work and with his team a primary objective is to "ruthlessly protect our downtime." And regarding work and money we discuss a line I pulled from his social media where he says, “I vacillate between wanting to change the world and wanting to be independently wealthy by the end of next Tuesday." Work at what you love. Work at what you're passionate about. We hear this message a lot, yet few people are really doing it, and I'm submitting here that we tend to view it wrong. Let's drop the baggage you may think of around words like love and passion and just think on something you care about. Wouldn't you rather have a surgeon working on you who knows more than how to do the surgery, but really, inherently cares about helping people? If she/he does care, they will likely do a better job and help you and themselves far more. What do you care about that is a good fit for you and the marketplace. Then, how do you best make money with it? This is our focus today, to take an age old issue and breath new, paradigm shifting light into it. My guest is Matt McWilliams. Matt has been helping people make money about what they care about for a long time, including names you'll likely know such as Shark Tank's Kevin Harrington, Tony Robbins, Michael Hyatt, Claire Diaz-Ortiz, Lewis Howes, Brian Tracy and more. I've know Matt a long time and know first hand from scores of people how he's helped them hone in on something they care about, and then, his specialty, how to make money from it. Not simply so you can make money, but so you can…in order to keep doing what you care about. I want you doing what you care about. It makes you happy and fulfilled and from that you will give happiness and fulfillment to others! Matt is just now releasing his new book titled, “Turn Your Passions Into Profits” and it was my muse for this discussion. He really turns the tables on many of our misconceptions around this concept, so you'll hear some paradigm shifting info right off the bat. Of interest, my publisher wants me to get 250 or more pre-orders of my book on Amazon before publication date, as it helps take it to the top of the rankings. Matt has over 1,200 already. You can pre-order now at passionsintoprofitsbook.com/self and get a truckload of add on bonuses. passionsintoprofitsbook.com/selfThe Self-Help(ful) podcast is brought to you by Ziglar, your premier source for equipping coaches to help leaders and top performers excel professionally and personally.
