SEND US A MESSAGE! We'd Love to Chat With you and Hear your thoughts! We'll read them on the next episode. Dr. Krista Bontrager, the Theology Mom and full-time ministry partner at the Center for Biblical Unity, joins me to dive into a discussion that we will probably need to have generation after generation because of how pervasive the lies of liberation theology are currently within our traditional ideologies. Why does the church seem so divided over the Christian profession? Why do so many professing Christians seem to adopt worldly philosophies under the guise of "justice"? Dr. Bontrager studied the ever-evolving tentacles of standpoint theory; from the well known ideologies of James Cone to the less well known step-child of feminist standpoint theory. Apparently, they all dwell in one big deceptive family,Do you know how these ideas may have invaded the ways you read the scriptures? Do we all need new, ethnic methods of understanding God's word? Should this episode be thrown in the trash merely because Krista is white? Leave us your thoughts! ----Krista Bontrager is a public theologian and fourth generation Bible teacher. She is an author, podcaster, and former university professor. Krista has a unique ability to connect theology with real life. Krista has worked professionally in theology and apologetics for over 25 years and transitioned into full time ministry with the Center for Biblical Unity in 2021. I got closer to attending the annual training seminar of the ICPC, I thought I'd ask the guy in charge if he had anything he wanted to share. And boy did he! Like a lot of chaplains, JIm is passionate about the well-being of cops and he jumped at the chance to talk about how a police officer finds his or her purpose in law enforcement. In this episode, I'm joined by Monique Duson and Krista Bontrager from the Center for Biblical Unity. We dive into what true racial reconciliation looks like from a biblical worldview—and why the church must reject secular ideologies like Critical Race Theory in favor of gospel-centered truth. Monique and Krista share how their friendship began and how it laid the foundation for their ministry partnership. Monique unpacks her journey out of the framework of social justice ideology, while Krista brings clarity to the theological dangers of redefining justice, oppression, and reconciliation through a cultural lens. Together, we explore why sound doctrine is essential for discerning truth from error—and how unity in the body of Christ must be grounded in Scripture, not shaped by the shifting winds of culture. If you've ever wrestled with how to think biblically about race, justice, or unity in the church, this conversation will equip and challenge you in all the right ways.

On the latest episode of the ABA Banking Journal Podcast — sponsored by Bix2x — Wendell Bontrager talks about how Sonata Bank is working with this unique market segment. For example, “we can come in at fractional costs to provide them things like telehealth, mobile phone insurance, pet insurance, in a way that is free to the employee but is done and sold through the franchisee,” says Bontrager. He outlines Sonata's business of lending to “quick-service” restaurants, as they're often called in the trade, paired with employee benefits, treasury management and a software-as-a-service platform for QSRs. Bontrager also talks about the health of the Nashville, Tennessee, market where Sonata's community bank franchise is headquartered and how the organization has been able to capture talent with hybrid and remote workplace offerings.

What does it look like to be biblical and counter-cultural when it comes to walking in unity today? Conversations around race, tolerance, social justice, racial reconciliation, and critical theory can be challenging and confusing, but what does a biblical approach look like? In this podcast, Jonathan Morrow had a conversation with Monique Duson and Krista Bontrager, about their new book Walking in Unity: Biblical Answers to Questions on Race and Racism.Get a copy of Walking in Unity: Biblical Answers to Questions on Race and Racism Monique Duson is the President at the Center for Biblical Unity. She has a background in social service and children's ministry. She has worked with a diverse array of under-served communities. She worked as a Missionary to South Africa for over four years, serving children and teachers impacted by drugs, violence, and trauma. Monique is now convinced that CRT is not the best way to achieve racial unity and actively speaks out against the use of CRT within the church. Monique has appeared on shows such as Relatable (with Allie Beth Stuckey), the Alisa Childers podcast, and Breakpoint (with John Stonestreet). Today I'm talking with my good friends from the Center for Biblical Unity, Monique Duson and Krista Bontrager, about their new book, Walking in Unity: Biblical Answers to Questions on Race and Racism. Ever since 2020, there have been all kinds of discussions about race in the church, and unfortunately a lot of those discussions have included some very unbiblical ways of thinking. I'm so grateful that Krista and Monique have written this excellent and accessible book that counteracts culture's problematic ideas. In this conversation, we cover all kinds of topics, like:What is the difference between anti-racism, racial reconciliation, and biblical unity?Should the church see disparities between races as evidence of racism? Why haven't churches been better at biblical discernment with respect to identifying unbiblical ideas about race and racism? How much should the church be addressing racial justice? Is it mostly a “progressive” issue? Is a “colorblind” approach the best solution? Should all churches be multiethnic? And much more.Get the book here: https://www.amazon.com/Walking-Unity-Biblical-Answers-Questions/dp/0736990895Learn more about the Center for Biblical Unity here: https://www.centerforbiblicalunity.com/
Few issues are more volatile and emotionally charged than conversations surrounding racism, social justice, and critical social theories. What does it look like to faithfully follow Jesus, who calls Christians to be unified in allegiance to God in this day and age? Monique Duson and Krista Bontrager, co-founders of The Center for Biblical Unity, suggest some constructive and God-honoring ways forward. Monique and Krista aim to lead respectful and biblically centered conversations on race, unity, and justice. Starting with Scripture, properly defining terms, and focusing on unity are values they embrace and discuss with Dr. Jeff. Hundreds of thousands of individuals perished in the epic conflict of the American Civil War. As battles raged and the specter of death and dying hung over the divided nation, the living worked not only to bury their dead but also to commemorate them. President Abraham Lincoln's Gettysburg Address perhaps best voiced the public yearning to memorialize the war dead. His address marked the beginning of a new tradition of commemorating American soldiers and also signaled a transformation in the relationship between the government and the citizenry through an embedded promise and obligation for the living to remember the dead. In Death at the Edges of Empire: Fallen Soldiers, Cultural Memory, and the Making of an American Nation, 1863-1921 (U Nebraska Press, 2020) Shannon Bontrager examines the culture of death, burial, and commemoration of American war dead. By focusing on the Civil War, the Spanish-Cuban-American War, the Philippine-American War, and World War I, Bontrager produces a history of collective memories of war expressed through American cultural traditions emerging within broader transatlantic and transpacific networks. Examining the pragmatic collaborations between middle-class Americans and government officials negotiating the contradictory terrain of empire and nation, Death at the Edges of Empire shows how Americans imposed modern order on the inevitability of death as well as how they used the war dead to reimagine political identities and opportunities into imperial ambitions. What does the Bible teach us about race, ethnicity, unity, and justice? When Krista Bontrager (a conservative wife, homeschool mom, and Biola graduate) formed a close relationship with Monique Duson (a self-proclaimed former social justice warrior, international missionary, and Biola graduate), both women discovered that even in their shared love for Jesus, their views on these social issues couldn't have been more diametrically opposed. With a topic as (potentially) divisive, triggering, and racially charged as social justice, how exactly did Krista and Monique manage to develop a close friendship and redirect their prior experiences and individual perspectives to form a ministry dedicated to answering these questions from a biblical worldview? In this midweek podcast episode, CrossExamined's Staff Writer, Phoenix Hayes, sits down with Monique and Krista, founders of the Center for Biblical Unity, to discuss the inspiration behind their upcoming book 'Walking in Unity: Biblical Answers to Questions on Race and Racism.' As they share the origin story of their friendship, you'll see how walking and talking about their conflicting ideas strengthened their budding friendship and led them to a greater understanding of Critical Theory, including how it fundamentally clashes with the Gospel message. Listen as Phoenix, Monique, and Krista answer questions like: How did Krista and Monique's upbringing impact their view of American history and the person of Jesus? Should all churches place an emphasis on ethnic diversity? How does their approach in the book tackle the issue of CRT in a unique way? What are some common forms of critical theory and what is the collective goal of each one? How is CRT shaping conversations surrounding the Israel/Hamas conflict? Krista and Monique's journey is proof that the Gospel still has the power to unite people from all walks of life, regardless of differences in age, ethnicity, and cultural backgrounds. This is a light-hearted conversation that will make you laugh, but also gives valuable insight into how to have tough conversations fruitfully. Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for more details on when 'Walking in Unity' will be available again for pre-order. Due to a minor setback, the original release date has been delayed and the new date is TBD. You can also support Krista and Monique through their work at the Center for Biblical Unity. There has been a slew of wheel introductions recently, with some of the most interesting ones being from Zipp (lightweight carbon XC!), DT Swiss (“Aero for All”!), and Mavic (hookless aluminum gravel!). Wait, what? Yep, Mavic is now so progressive that its new aluminum gravel wheels feature a hookless profile, and we have some thoughts on the idea. Timestamps: 1:37 – A close at DT Swiss's new “Aero for All” aluminum wheels 8:27 – This most definitely is not the Mavic of yesteryear 15:04 – Zipp enters the XC wheel market (and their carbon road wheels have quietly gotten heavier) 25:56 – Bontrager cozies up with Look for a new range of clipless MTB pedals 32:57 – Wahoo Fitness continues to streamline its operations 35:58 – Brighter days are hopefully ahead for Parlee Cycles 41:35 – The indomitable and indestructible Surly Cross-Check is no more 46:30 – Dave is obsessing about what spare parts and – of course – tools to carry on his new bike 52:59 – James's safety rules of the road 57:52 – More power or less weight for eMTBs? 1:02:08 – Choosing the right chain lube is about saving money, not watts
