I don't have any special commentary on this particular set other than it's an extension of everything already released. There are a lot of golden nuggets included here and volume 4 speaks for itself. It's always a sigh of relief when I finish one of these epic anthologies and I'm happy with the final product. Volume four of the Ultimate 90's House Classics showcases the splintering of the genre and how more progressive versions of House Music were suddenly taking over dance floors. Club 69 (a.k.a. Peter Rauhofer) who was generally a sexy house music production geared toward gay audiences, changed musical directions quite rapidly. Eventually, the productions became more progressive and frenetic, which would drive peak hour crowds into a tizzy. Club 69 hit it big with remixes for Funky Green Dogs "Fired Up" and Kevin Aviance "Din Da Da" amongst many others during this period. At the same time, Tony Moran, Junior Vasquez, Victor Calderone, Ralphi Rosario and Hex Hector were beefing up their sound while making it more palatable to a mainstream audience giving the genre and even further reach.  This is not to say the House Music in its purest form wasn't still king as evidenced by the multitude of #1 club songs included in this final set. But, this new sound was embarking on something much bigger that would eventually takeover not only the charts but dance floors in the coming years. Everyone found their place or shall I say true calling as a DJ and no longer were these guys just a DJ, two turntables and a microphone (thank you Beck). They were stars in their own right that could pack a venue. Perhaps the biggest contributor to their stardom was none other than Clive Davis of Arista records. He saw not just in terms of financial but the need to expand his diva roster's reach into the world of dance and by extension their popularity. After all, where would Deborah Cox be today if it weren't for him pushing her in both angles of R&B and Dance extending her visibility across boundaries. While Party Favorz enjoys all the various genres and tribute sets I put out from Trash Disco, 80's Dance, Eurodance and Trance — I have the most affinity with House Music and its various iterations. The Ultimate 90's House Classics series is dear to my heart. While this series is far from the last word on House Music (as there's just way too much to be included even if the artists and songs deserve it) — it's likely the closest you'll ever find in a comprehensive history of the genre. I've finally sat down and created the mix that I've wanted to create for months now!!! This is definitely a sound unlike any of my previous Podcasts and yet it's a sound that I love so much. Inspired by my recent late-September week in NYC, this is a much more down-tempo / chill and old-school house inspired set, with quite a bit of alt influence as well. This is the kind of set you'd hear out in NYC at Cielo, Griffin and The Park (so, consider it my audition tape for those places... Jared & Josh, Brian & Shawn!). It's the kind of set that you can put on for a long car road trip or an afternoon sitting by the pool. And I'm happier with it than pretty much any Podcast to date. This one is a journey... with very distinct sections... so join me on it. It's also in 320 kpbs bit rate (all of my other Podcasts to date have been 192), so while it's a large file to download (220 MB -- it is also an hour & 1/2 long!), the sound quality difference should be worth it! The Macarena was something everyone—at least once—tried to dance to, whether at a wedding or reluctantly at a high school gym. Happy Clappers - I Believe (12'' Master) Rewind a bit to 1995, a year that brought us the iconic, though controversial, verdict in the O.J. Simpson trial. Amidst the national debates and TV drama, Happy Clappers were making waves in a different way with their song "I Believe." The 12'' Master version served as a refuge, providing an irresistible groove that prompted listeners to believe in something better, if only for the length of a song. Hannah Jones - You Only Have To Say You Love Me (Eric Kupper Mix) In the tempest of 1997, a year that saw the world mourning the loss of Princess Diana and simultaneously tuning into the debut of "South Park," Hannah Jones offered solace with "You Only Have To Say You Love Me." Remixed by Eric Kupper, the song provided an emotional compass at a time when cultural sentiments were swinging wildly between sorrow and irreverence. Possibly the one person who is compared more often than not to Whitney Houston is Mariah Carey.  Breaking onto the scene in the early nineties, her debut album spawned four #1 hits and there was no stopping her after that.  Well, there was that little hiccup after leaving Sony/Columbia for Virgin for a very lucrative financial deal.  Hey, you can't be perfect all the time and in the end, they paid out her contract and let her go.  As the Emancipation of Mimi later proved, it was their loss. Much has been made about Mariah re-recording her vocals only for David Morales, her preferred DJ.  No doubt he's has been an important part of transferring her big voice to the dance floors across the world.  After going back and listening to a lot of these mixes, I can pretty much bet you she also re-recorded the vocals for the boys of C+C Music Factory as well as Junior Vasquez.  All you have to do is go back and listen to the full-length originals of Anytime You Need a Friend or Heartbreaker which were more characteristic of David Morales mixes with the big gospel choirs, the prolonged mid-sections that sound like you've just been worked over for several hours on Sunday at your local black Baptist church.  It's not likely these were outtakes from the original recording sessions and once you get Mariah in front of that gospel choir, the girl just tears it up! I have personally been less than impressed with her most recent work starting with last year's E=MC² where many of the songs sound like they should be sung by some 21-year-old pop tart as opposed to a true diva with the vocal ability bestowed on her by the gods.  If she thinks she needs to keep up with the kiddies, she doesn't.  That was proven by last year's Leona Lewis whose debut album was a worldwide smash and was much more sophisticated and mature in its overall tone.  In fact, she stands to possibly dethrone the current reigning queen if she's not careful.  Girlfriend, watch your back. Regardless, the songs contained on this 2+ hours of non-stop house music are a true testament to Mariah's incredible abilities.  It's for this reason that Party Favorz honors Miss Carey with her induction into the Diva Hall of Fame.  Ladies and gentlemen…Mariah Carey!
