M People star Andrew Lovell's home life hid a terrible – yet beautiful – secret. It would take him decades to find out the truth. At the height of his fame, drummer Andrew ‘Shovell' Lovell had everything he'd dreamed of: sex, drugs and regular appearances at the top of the charts with the dance music band M People. But sell-out shows, first-class travel and five-star hotels couldn't stop the questions gnawing away at him. As a mixed-race kid growing up in a white family in south London he wanted to know: who were his birth parents? Why had they given him up? The answer, when it came, was shocking.A disruptive and unruly child, Andrew was asked to leave school aged 15. He found a trade as a plumber but his true passion was music. He joined M People in the early 90s and by 1995 he was touring the world. The band was celebrating its second platinum-selling album in 1998 when Andrew sat down for a heart to heart with his adoptive parents on Christmas Day. He was 33 at the time, and a star – M People was one of the most successful dance music acts in the world with hits like Search for the Hero and Moving On Up. But deep down Andrew was still a little boy with a big question – to which he was about to get a devastating answer. The revelation of who his real mother was left him reeling and plunged him into a breakdown. If you are suffering distress and need support, there are details of help available in many countries at www.befrienders.orgPresenter: Jo Fidgen Producer: Hetal BapodraLives Less Ordinary is a podcast from the BBC World Service that brings you the most incredible true stories from around the world. It is a monumental Tuesday as the NDSU Bison officially punch their ticket to the FBS. Host Scott Hennen is joined by athletic director Matt Larson and interim president Rick Berg to break down the "muscle car" transition to the Mountain West, the $17 million move, and why your tailgating experience is about to get a major upgrade. But the headlines don't stop at the goal line. We go behind the scenes of the most talked-about Super Bowl commercial with a fourth-generation North Dakota barley farmer who shared the screen with the Clydesdales. Plus, we tackle the fiery debate over the SAVE Act, the "bigotry of low expectations" in voting laws, and an inspiring look at a local homeschool robotics team that is out-coding the competition. From political absurdity to high-tech student innovation, this episode covers the full spectrum of the Red River Valley and beyond. Welcome back to Lez Hang Out, the podcast that is moving on up! This week, co-hosts Leigh (@lshfoster) and Ellie (@elliebrigida) hang out with Marita Prodger (@maritaprodger) who you may recognize as one of the stars of Season 2 of Netflix's The Ultimatum: Queer Love. This episode is full of feels (three Pisces in one podcast makes for quite the fluid conversation), lesbian math, and musical manifestation. Quick disclaimer that we recorded this prior to the announcement that The Ultimatum: Queer Love has been cancelled, so please keep that in mind while listening. Marita began her Ultimatum journey when she was just 24 years old, and now at 27 she credits her experiences on the show with helping her to grow, create an incredible community, and rediscover her self-worth. Although she did not come away from the show with “her person”, she walked away with a renewed sense of self-love and the understanding that she didn't need to beg someone to love her. The right person would just do it naturally. Ending up with Britney as a trial marriage partner may not have been what either of them planned for, but it turned out to be the best thing for Marita to see her own energy reflected back like a mirror. It's easy to end up in a relationship that feels comfortable enough to stay, but still isn't quite right for you. We may see going on the Ultimatum as a really drastic measure for fixing a relationship, but sometimes it takes blowing everything up to see what remains. Seeing how simple it was for Britney to show up and consider her in the small day-to-day moments was a huge eye-opener and helped to break Marita out of a cycle that without the show, she may still have been trapped in today. You can find Marita on all the socials at @maritaprodger. Follow for information on how you can join her in the Canary Islands in January and for the chance to hear new music as she releases it. Sharifa Stevens Kay Daigle Sharifa Stevens, author of When We Talk to God: Prayers and Poems for Black Women, talks with Kay Daigle about her book. Although it's written with black women in mind, any woman can identify with most of the feelings that permeate this beautiful book. This is a book that prays women's feelings, as the Psalms do. There is something for each reader as Sharifa pours out her heart in these prayers and poems. I'm Kay with Beyond Ordinary Women Ministries. Welcome to our podcast. Our guest today is actually one of our ministry team members, Sharifa Stevens. And today she is the one being interviewed rather than just one of our team members. So, Sharifa, it's so great to see you as always. Sharifa >> It's always a pleasure to see you, Kay. Kay >> Now, Sharifa, according to her book, Sharifa is a writer, a poet, a speaker, and a singer. And it's all true. Sharifa >> It's true. This is going to be so fun! Kay >> I don't know... I'm not quite sure why you think this is so funny. That's the wonderful things that you are. Sharifa >> It is. It's wonderful. Kay >> She looks so sad. Sharifa >> I'm so sorry. I'm not. I'm so happy. Kay >> Anyway, we won't talk about you anymore if it'll make you feel better. Sharifa >> Okay. Kay >> You can read Sharifa's entire bio on our site BeyondOrdinaryWomen.org. So today we are talking to Sharifa because she has a book, and it is beautiful. It is one of the prettiest books I've ever seen. And it is When We Talk to God: Prayers and Poems for Black Women. So Sharifa, actually, I was just really blown away by your book, by the beauty of it, by so many of the poems and prayers in it. It just really touched my heart in a lot of ways. It reminded me a lot of the psalms, which mean a whole lot to me, because you had a lot of raw emotion in there like the psalmist, and it all came from your heart. And there's no doubt about it. That kind of expressed your deepest thoughts. And, you know, just like the Psalms that give us words to pray when we don't know what to say to God. I see your book is doing that for a lot of people there. There will be a lot of poems and prayers in here that will be very dear to many women who will read them and pray them over and over. I think, just like the Psalms, it will help people when they face difficulties be anchored in the Word when that happens. Thank you for doing this. Sharifa >> Thank you for those affirming words. And I am especially honored that you would draw a parallel to the Psalms because that was my goal. And I see the Bible as being so vivid and rich with emotional depth that it's not just an intellectual exercise to read the Bible. It is spiritual, and it's also emotional, and it reflects the fullness of God's love and of our humanity. And so in the book, I wanted to reflect some of that back to the frankness and intimacy of the Psalms and the prophetic voice of the prophets, and the thirst for justice that echoes throughout the prophetic books, and also the playfulness of the Song of Solomon. They're just different beats in the Bible. There's history, there's lamentation, there's so much praise,

As Ezra opens, there is both excitement as God stirs up the heart of a pagan king to send God's people home, and there is mundane with a long list of names and numbers. Even so, there is a common thread: God's temple is meant to be in Jerusalem, and God sent His people back […]

Welcome dear listener to the latest episode. I'm Paul and I am joined by Daz. The Reds drew with Newcastle away 3-3 a week ago, had the Merseyside Derby postponed, and beat Girona 1-0 on Tuesday in the Champions league. Net result is we are 3 points clear at the top of the Champions League table and still the top of the Premier League with a game in hand - 8 points clear of City, 6 from Arsenal and 4 ahead of Chelsea. We'll review those games and then talk about Fulham in the Premier League and maybe Southampton in the Carabao Cup. Part One - Reds drew at Newcastle. Not a great first half performance, but a lot of positives in the second half. xG 2.09 to 1.98 (first half 0.89 v 0.25). Second half 10 shots to 4 from inside the box. First half seemed a tired performance, but having Quansah at right back took away outlets and a lot of attacking threat. Mac Allister did have a couple of good efforts. Not Joe Gomez's best performance. Newcastle had a lot in their favor here. They get up for big games at home. They had an extra day of preparation. They were facing a team that had just come through 2 of their biggest games of the season and without a lot of scope for rotation, especially with the defensive injuries. Refereeing, Slot mentions how difficult it was to be aggressive when every tackle drew a yellow card. Maddley is shite for us - waiting for the video where he tells us he or his mate hates Scousers. 5 cards to 1, 17 fouls to 9. Salah fouls. Goal - saved by Ali? VVD only left him part of the goal to aim at. Third goal for them - Caoimhin to blame? (I think that chance has a 0.4 xG) Second half - more energy, Looked a different team with Trent. Great finish from Curtis and Salah is just Salah - takes him to 13 goals for the season (5 behind Thierry Henry) Part Two: Girona away. Felt like we started rusty and eventually controlled the game. xG 1.84 to 1.21 for us (0.8 vs 0.73 in the first half): Joe could have scored in the first 5 minutes. Frustrating 10 minutes or so - Ali was great, press and marking was a little off Neil talked about the strange formation where they vacated the middle of the field when they had the ball Nunez performance, Diaz- what did he do to piss the French referee off? Salah was OK but that penalty makes it even more clear that the Real Madrid factor was real for him when he missed 2 weeks ago. He has 227 Liverpool goals, one behind Billy Liddell now. 50 UCL goal - 10th on the list, 1 behind Thierry Henry Part Three: Fulham at home; Southampton away in the Carabao Fulham - challenges? (Bassey, Andersen) Team selection, predictions Southampton - approach? Challenges? Most of these teams are not used to playing 2 games a week. Team selection Over the holidays - Sunday, Thursday, Sunday - let's drain the optimism We will be back next week with a review of the Fulham and Southampton games, and maybe some previews. Thanks to Daz for joining me, Paul. And most of all, thank you dear listener for joining us.

Episode 53: Screamadelica (Primal Scream). McCartney In Goal is the podcast that debates the great albums of pop music, using a competitive knock-out format. Today we're discussing, Screamadelica which was the third studio album by Scottish rock/indie band Primal Scream. It was first released on 23 September 1991 in the United Kingdom. The album includes "Loaded", "Movin' On Up", "Come Together" and "Higher Than The Sun".How did a remix transform a rock band into dance music pioneers? In our latest episode, we embark on a spirited journey through Primal Scream's iconic album "Screamadelica." Set against the backdrop of September 1991—a month that birthed Nirvana's "Nevermind" and the Red Hot Chili Peppers' "Blood Sugar Sex Magik"—we reminisce about our teenage years and debate which album truly defined the era. With a playful quiz on the band's roots, we explore their ties with figures like Bobby Gillespie and Alan McGee, and the influence of the UK indie and Acid House scenes, all peppered with tales of our adolescent awkwardness. Our discussion takes a lively turn as we dissect the album's eclectic nature, bouncing between gospel-infused anthems and psychedelic dance tracks. We engage in a humorous yet passionate debate over whether "Screamadelica" should be considered a concept album, reminiscent of a journey through a weekend's highs and lows. We even engage in a cheeky saxophone solo showdown, diving into differing tastes in jazz and musical complexity, while reflecting on the transformative power of tracks like "Moving On Up" and "Slip Inside This House."No conversation about "Screamadelica" would be complete without celebrating the profound impact of Andy Weatherall. We dive into his pivotal role in reshaping the band's sound with remixes like "Loaded," and ponder how his collaboration with Bobby Gillespie and Andrew Innes forged a legacy that won the 1992 Mercury Prize. Whether you're a longtime fan or a curious newcomer, our exploration promises not just entertainment but a deep appreciation for an album that remains a defining piece of '90s musical history.Support the showTwitter - https://twitter.com/mccartneyinWebsite - https://mccartneyingoal.com/
