Send us a Text Message.I caught up with Howard Thresher at the tackle shop he runs in Crediton, Devon.I've known him quite a few years now and I really wanted listeners to hear the story of a river that was completely fished out until he was lucky enough to buy the fishing rights and nurse it back to health. It now holds some pretty special fish.We also get an intimate insight into how he runs a tackle shop, known locally as the sweet shop, a little differently from the norm. You'll learn how he stumbled into the industry almost by accident but used his skills in other areas to make the business a success.I really enjoyed talking with Howard and hope you'll enjoy our conversation just as much.

Saint Boniface, Apostle of GermanySaint Boniface the Apostle of Germany, may not be well known in the United States, however he brought Catholicism to Germany.  He is greatly admired in Germany and other European countries.  He is venerated not only by the Catholic Church, but by the Lutherans, as well as the Anglicans and the Eastern Orthodox. We've said this before, but when there is a crisis in God's Church, he raises up a powerful Saint to do the task.  In this instance, He chose a young man filled with the Spirit, from what is today known as Great Britain.  He sent him to what is today Germany to evangelize and convert the Old Saxons, the people of Germany who were Catholic but had lost their way.  And that was just the beginning.  Before his life was over, he had evangelized all of Germany, and had become Primate of Germany.  If that wasn't enough, when that was done, he went over to France to convert and bring back to the Faith those who had left.  But we're getting ahead of ourselves.  Let's start at the beginning. Boniface was born in Crediton in Devonshire, England in 675-680 and baptized Winfrid. His was a noble family.  He was given an early training in our Faith.  He felt a calling to the religious life at 5 years old.  His spirituality attracted the attention of various religious men, who suggested he study under the brothers and priests.  At 7 years old, he went to a monastery where he excelled in learning scripture, Latin and lecturing.  At 14 years old, he graduated to the next level, a Benedictine Abbey. Company Number: 9053146. There is a talk show beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as The Buccaneers Bar and as timeless as 11am - 3:30pm on a Tuesday. It is the middle ground between breakfast and going home, between the long gone past and distance future. It lies at the beginning of a month and the thesaurus of the month. This is the dimension of imagination. It is a transmission known as EPIC MW. This transmission is a Heritage special. Listen to find out a bit about the wonderful history of Crediton's cinema and our journey of discovery throughout the process. Following her historic installation as the 133rd Bishop of London, Sarah Mullally will be in conversation with David Ison, Dean of St Paul’s Cathedral, about her faith, her life, what matters to her most, and how she feels about being the first female Bishop of London. A Londoner for most of her adult life, she is passionate about how people live well in the city, about health, loneliness, the call to transformed lives, and what the church can offer people in a new century and a fast-changing city. The event is free and open to everyone, and there will be plenty of time for questions from the audience. Sarah Mullally is the Bishop of London. Installed on 12 May in St Paul’s Cathedral, she was previously Bishop of Crediton, has worked at Salisbury Cathedral and been a parish priest, and before had a career as a nurse, specialising in cancer care. Her very successful career in the NHS culminated in her appointment as the government’s Chief Nursing Officer for England at the age of 37, and she was made a Dame Commander of the British Empire in 2005 in recognition of her outstanding contribution to nursing and midwifery. David Ison is the Dean of St Paul’s Cathedral. Previously Dean of Bradford in Yorkshire, he began as an inner city priest in Deptford, taught at a training college in Blackheath, worked on a housing estate in Coventry and with in-service training of clergy in Devon, and has a PhD in Early Church History. Recorded on Monday 4 June 2018.
