Send us Fan MailHappy Beltane to those that celebrate, here's an extra episode to welcome those longer days that are on the way. It's an extended interview with author and broadcaster Zakia Sewell about the journeys and discoveries that make up Finding Albion, her search for another Britain. Born out of her 2020 radio 4 series (My Albion) - it is a rejection of a narrow and exclusionary vision of Englishness in favour of a unifying sense of national identity. Centred around the wheel of the year and a pursuit that took Zakia the length and breadth of our island Finding Albion is as much an exploration of our shared colonial past as it is the weird and wonderful folk customs and traditions that continue to bind our communities together. What emerges is a (much needed) hopeful vision of our future and the offer to pursue a deeper sense of who we are.'Hopeful and Inspiring' - Caroline Lucas'Finding Albion offers up much-needed alternative national identities and stories for us to keep close and cherish. In this episode of The Lebanese Physicians Podcast, I sit down with Dr. Zakia Dimassi, a leader in medical education at Khalifa University, to explore an often overlooked issue in simulation-based training: fatigue in standardized patients (SPs). Drawing from her recent publication in Clinical Simulation in Nursing, Dr. Dimassi sheds light on how physical, cognitive, and most importantly emotional fatigue impacts SP performance, assessment accuracy, and ultimately the quality of medical education. Together, we discuss: Why fatigue can begin as early as 30 minutes into sessions How emotional roles (e.g., breaking bad news) take the greatest toll The implications for OSCE reliability and high-stakes exams Real-world observations of performance lapses and scoring variability Practical solutions: better scheduling, breaks, SP-centered design, and de-rolling techniques The future role of AI and hybrid simulation models in reducing fatigue

Last summer - fuelled by the far right - a rash of St George and Union Jack flags spread across the country. Flag-waving became a symbol of prejudice, not pride. In that context it's hard as progressives to feel particularly patriotic. So what is Britishness… and does it even matter?Someone who is hopeful that our national identity is worth saving is writer, a DJ and broadcaster Zakia Sewell. They chat about her quest to discover the roots of Britishness in our folk traditions, whether Morris Men are good or evil and why some of them refuse to give up the dodgier aspects of the craft, Cheddar Man and how little his family travelled in 10,000 years, what the idea of indigenous Britain might even mean, confronting the less admirable aspects of British history and present, dressing up as a wolf in Cornwall, why the rest of the world should be grateful to England and what are Zakia's hopes for the future?Buy the book here - https://uk.bookshop.org/p/books/finding-albion-myth-folklore-and-the-quest-for-a-hidden-britain-longlisted-for-the-women-s-prize-for-non-fiction-2026-zakia-sewell/ac1b8680af0c4bbaSUPPORT THE SHOW!See details of the RHLSTP LIVE DATES Watch our TWITCH CHANNELBecome a badger and see extra content at our WEBSITE Buy DVDs and books from GO FASTER STRIPE Hosted on Acast. Are Pagan Traditions Shaping a New British Identity? In this episode, Academic, broadcaster and critic Shahidha Bari speaks to journalist, DJ and author Zakia Sewell about her book Finding Albion: Myth, Folklore and the Quest for a Hidden Britain which has been longlisted for the Women's Prize for Non-Fiction 2026. In this episode, Sewell recounts her discovery of an alternative Britain, which lies beyond divisive national myths and symbols. On her quest – punctuated by folk festivals, seasonal celebrations and mystic stone circles – she uncovers how new identities are being formed. Folk and pagan groups are increasing in numbers across the country and are taking ancient myths and repurposing them, in order to make sense of past and present struggles. From the ghosts of Empire that still haunt the nation to increasingly siloed politics, Sewell discusses how and why ancient British folklore and mythology is more relevant than ever. Zakia Sewell is a broadcaster, writer and DJ from London with a passion for music. She has regularly produced and presented radio documentaries and podcasts for platforms including BBC Radio 4, BBC World Service, Tate, and Boiler Room. She currently hosts Dream Time on BBC 6 Music on Sunday nights, and hosted The NTS Breakfast Show, and Questing w/ Zakia on NTS Radio between 2016-2024. This year's Budapest Pride was banned in March under the Orbán government's contentious “child protection” law. Demonstrators were threatened with hefty fines for participating, and the government said it would employ facial-recognition technology to identify and potentially prosecute those who turned out to take part at the march on 28 June. Did the ban work? Not in the slightest. In fact, more people than ever in the 30-year history of Budapest Pride showed up to celebrate their rights as LGBTQ+ human beings. The massive Pride march brought a glimmer of hope to some Hungarian citizens, including this week's guest, writer Krisztián Marton. We spoke with Krisztián about the lead-up to the event, the thrill of being on the ground last Saturday, and what might be next for Hungary, now that Viktor Orbán finally has a formidable challenger in Péter Magyar. We also chatted with Dominic's husband, Thomas Lamers, a philosopher and dramaturg who hit the streets for us, mic in hand. (Thanks, Thomas, we owe you!) Krisztián Marton is a screenwriter and novelist. You can follow him on Instagram here and read an excerpt in English of his Margó Prize-nominated novel Crybaby here. Introduction: Minutes 0 to 4:45 We will be off next week due to Memorial Day. I finished watching From on MGM+ and also watched Blown Away on Netflix. Chandra remembers the show Flea Market Flip with Ali Wentworth on HGTV. The documentary she remembers is called Craft in America and was on PBS. Royals: Minutes 4:45 to 25:30 Last week, as we were recording, the news had just come out that the Sussexes were going to be in Nigeria the next day. There were so many stories, pictures and videos of their visit, but it was mostly limited to Getty and social media. Their visit was announced late, and we think that was to keep British journalists from traveling to Nigeria to cover their tour. It was hard to source stories and photos, but we loved that they weren't being held up by protocol. They gave a lot of personal time to the causes and people they visited. Meghan was declared a princess of Nigeria by four kings. That was such a moving gesture and you could tell Meghan was touched. Nigeria pulled out all the stops for the Sussexes. People love the Sussexes because they are so genuine. During their tour they were getting invitations from other countries to visit. I play a segment of Meghan's speech at the Women in Leadership panel in Nigeria. There was a lot of racism and toxicity in the British press around that visit. Nigerian Twitter united to call it out. It seemed like Buckingham Palace gave the press the go ahead to attack the Sussexes. We've also heard that Charles is trying to block Harry and Meghan from visiting more commonwealth countries, similar to how Charles tried to block the Bidens from being hospitable toward them. We mentioned in our last episode that Charles had scheduled a handover event to give William the title of colonel in chief of the Army Air Corps, which was Prince Harry's regiment when he served two tours in Afghanistan. That little event happened, William cosplayed as Harry, dressed like him and took a ride in an Apache helicopter. The optics were terrible, because William wants to be Harry and falls short in every way. The Sussexes are covering this week's People and it's such a contrast to last week's weird cover story that centered how William was coping with his wife's illness. There are direct quotes from Harry and Meghan saying how well they're doing and that they're going to plan more visits. I play a clip from Zoom with Karen, Zakia and Ameerah, where we talked about the Nigerian tour. Like Karen mentioned on Zoom, the Sussexes got a lot of gifts. Of course there are calls for them to give them back. The British press is trying to make it sound like they got extravagant gifts. Chandra remembers when Camilla was gifted diamonds by the Saudis. Archewell was briefly “delinquent” with their registration in the state of California, but that was a simple mixup by the Attorney General's office which lost a check. The check was sent by certified mail and was delivered. Governor Newsom spoke out on their behalf. This week we also saw more of William's alleged one time mistress, Rose Hanbury. She was at the Badminton Horse Trials where she was photographed with Camilla. Rose and her husband, David Rocksavage, were also at an OBE service where their son was the page for Charles and Camilla. Comments of the Week: Minutes 25:30 to end Chandra's comment of the week is from Sunday on the post about Rose Hanbury's reemergence. My comments of the week are from Harla A Brazen Hussy and StellainNH on the post about King Charles' new portrait by Jonathan Yeo. Thanks for listening bitches!
Available on Amazon and leading online bookstores worldwide. A Moroccan journalist stumbles upon a story that can make or break her career…and her life. She doesn't respond because her long-distance marriage to an American is already hanging by a thread. Less than a week later, Elias is incinerated in a fracking incident, which may not be an accident. She discovers the oil and gas company is cutting shady deals with someone in the government. The closer Zakia gets to the truth, the more danger she encounters. For security reasons, her family moves to the United States. But when she is accused of murdering a Scottish climate scientist in Iceland, Zakia must uncover the truth about the conspiracy, the Dirty Network, to save herself. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/daniel-lucas66/message

Introduction: Minutes 0 to 6:00 I've been watching Encounters on Netflix! Chandra is watching a friend's cat and it's being naughty. Royals: Minutes (6:00) to 19:45 The British press is making excuses for why Kate can't go to Singapore for the Earthshot Awards. They're saying that she's a reluctant traveler, that she is focused on her kids and has to stay back because that's the week George has some kind of qualifying test for school. Kate made sure to mention this at an event. We think this is just an excuse. Robert Jobson reported in the Daily Express that Kate will increasingly “step out solo” and that William is “spreading his wings.” The press still writes about them like they've just graduated college. Will and Kate did a couple of events together recently. They met with Apple CEO Tim Cook at Kensington Palace where they likely got free iPhones. They also went to Cardiff to do multiple events for Black History Month where they looked especially awkward. We got stories afterward about how hunky William is. Kate visited a community center without bringing anything. I play a segment from Zoom where we talk about Kate's style. Zakia mentions that Kate may have lost some sensation in her face due to injections and be exaggerating her expressions for that reason. This makes sense because celebrity women have said that they weren't able to smile after bad Botox. Ashley says how disrespectful it is that Kate repeated an outfit within a couple of days for an event with Black people. Sophie Turner and Taylor Swift Minutes (19:45) to 28:30 Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas are divorcing. We talked about that in episode 157. Joe tried to push the narrative that Sophie is partying, which was a crap PR move but more than that he didn't need that because the children have US residency. A lot of people don't understand international child custody rules, which is that the children stay where they are "habitual residents." The latest news is that they're going to mediation to determine custody. I play a segment from Zoom where we talk about that. We think Sophie is getting bad advice after some of her recent public moves. Taylor Swift is dating Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. She's been attending to his football games and Swifties and the NFL are going crazy. She went to a game with his mom in Kansas City on September 24 and on Sunday October 1 she went to a game in New Jersey with Sophie, Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman. Comments of the Week: Minutes (28:30) to end Chandra's comment of the week is from Kreama on the post about Prince William being a royal hunk. My comments of the week are from Steph and Susan Collins on the post about Commander Biden being sent away. Thanks for listening bitches!

Lisa Maffia came to prominence in the early 2000s as the only woman in So Solid Crew, the platinum selling UK Garage act from South London that took over the UK mainstream. Lisa joins Zakia in the NTS studio in London to reflect on Lisa's younger years and the early days of So Solid Crew, through to Lisa's solo career. Lisa and Zakia discuss the highs and lows of So Solid's journey, which took them from DIY pirate radio to the Brit Awards and countless other accolades. Along the way they drew criticism from the British press, and they fell victim to the Metropolitan Police's punitive 696 form, which all but shut down their scene. In this Don't Assume interview, Zakia and Lisa celebrate the lasting legacy of UK Garage and its celebration of Black Britishness. Lloyd ‘Bullwackie' Barnes and his legendary Wackie's institution has been at the heart of the dub and reggae scene since the 1970s. Starting out as a tailor to reggae's brightest stars, Bullwackie quickly started working as an engineer at Treasure Isle and Studio One studios in Kingston, Jamaica. On moving to New York with his family he became immersed in the burgeoning reggae and dub scene briefly running his own soundsystem. Bullwackie opened up the first reggae studio in New York, Wackie's House of Music. Since Wackie's was founded in 1976, Bullwackie has produced and released records with the likes of Sugar Minnott, Lee Scratch Perry, The Love Joys, Horace Andy, Max Romeo, Dennis Brown, and - as Zakia discovers - even impromptu sessions with the likes of Mohammed Ali. After enjoying a resurgence of interest in more recent times, following a reissue series via Mark Ernestus and Moritz von Oswald's Basic Channel dub techno label, Wackie's today enjoys multi-generational cult status. In this podcast Zakia and Bullwackie reflect on his life and career, and the exciting discovery of his stolen archive of unreleased Wackie's recordings that Lloyd has recently recovered, and is now in the process of mastering, in some cases nearly 50 years after they were first recorded.
