The Mariners season came to an abrupt end in the cruellest of fashions on Friday night when a 117th minute extra-time winner for Salford saw them dumped out of the League Two play-off's 4-3 on aggregate. Chris and the panel begin by dissecting both games, pin point key moments that helped decide the tie and debate whether David Artell's decision to drop top goal-scorer Jaze Kabia to the bench for the second leg was the right one. In Part Two the guys take a look back at what will be remembered, once the dust settles, as Town's most successful league campaign for two decades and the marked improvements from last season. They pick out some of the most defining and memorable moments from the last nine months and then look ahead to the imminent retained list announcement and our chances of success next season. Can the squad continue year on year improvement and achieve a top 6 finish or will the extra expectation weigh heavy? Well, what were we worried about?! Town secure a League Two play-off place for the first time in two decades after a potentially season defining week and back-to-back wins against fellow promotion contenders Cambridge and Swindon. Chris and the panel begin by admiring two very different performances; one dogged and determined, the other relentless and confident but both with the same glorious outcome.Attentions then turn to individual stand out displays such as that of Cameron McJannet on Tuesday night and then Maldini Kacurri, Geza David Turi and hat-trick hero Jaze Kabia on Saturday. How important has squad rotation proven to be, how far could this new found form carry us and can we now finally afford ourselves a laugh at Ian Holloway's expense? The guys then discuss the selection headache facing David Artell ahead of a final day trip to Tranmere, debate the pro's and con's of resting players and then wonder who we may need to fear in the play-offs... It was another nail-biting week for Grimsby fans as they saw their team lose at play-off rivals Chesterfield on Tuesday night but then respond with an emphatic 4-1 win at lowly Gillingham on Saturday to keep promotion dreams alive for a little longer yet. Host Steve Young and the panel dissect both games, wonder how costly yet another penalty miss might be and applaud the bouncebackability the squad continue to show when the chips are down. The guys then discuss Harvey Rodgers inclusion in the ‘League Two Team of the Year' but consider the fact he might not even be in the conversation for the club's own POTY next weekend with a lot of strong competition for the gong. And which strike do the panellists think will be the pick of the bunch for goal of the season? It's a jam-packed episode this week with lots for Chris and the panel to catch up with on and off the pitch. They start by looking back at the uninspiring Harrogate defeat on Good Friday before quickly turning attentions to the more positive performances against Crawley and Crewe which heralded six deserved points; could Clarke Odour still have an unlikely say on the outcome of Town's season and how important could Andy Cook's MOTM display be in the second of those aforementioned games? The guys then discuss several off field announcements from the past fortnight; the club's published accounts from the 25/26 tax year, a new shirt sponsor in Blackrow Engineering and the price increase of the 26/27 season tickets. Are fans still getting value for money and should season ticket holders receive loyalty points to gain extra priority for away games? The gang round of the episode by previewing our mouth watering trip to immediate play-off rivals Chesterfield on Tuesday night and then also the trip to Gillingham next weekend, aided by Matt from the ‘Gills In The Blood' YouTube channel. Grimsby have played a further three times since we last recorded so Chris and the panel waste no time examining the six points gained from a possible nine over the last week, keeping The Mariners in a play-off berth for now. The national media descended on Grimsby again this weekend with the arrival of Premier League side Wolves in the FA Cup 4th Round but sadly it was the Blundell Park pitch that stole the headlines and almost ruined the game as a contest. This week It's the VFTF works Christmas do and you're all invited along! Returning host Chris has put some money behind the bar, Charles Lumley has provided the venue and Paul Savage has provided the booze and they are the panellists to guide us through Part One of tonights special festive edition of the pod. The guys begin by discussing another winless afternoon for the Mariners at Bromley and the questionable team selection of David Artell, a manager that's arguably been afforded too much patience up to now or perhaps he's only just in the ascendency of a long term project aligned with the owners? The fan base appears split on the answer to that conundrum. In Part Two Steve Young and Dave Laister join the party to have a wider look at the season so far and debate whether or not we have made any significant improvement from this time last year. And then they turn their attention to the impending January transfer window and how Artell and co may go about changing the fortunes and inspiring a squad currently devoid of all confidence. Matt Dannatt is on hosting duties for the first time this week and with help from the panel he wastes no time in tackling the biggest talking points from another disappointing home defeat for the Mariners, this time going down 2-0 to 2nd placed Notts County and in many ways the ninety minutes were a microcosm of Town's season so far. Are the underlying performances still good enough to give fans hope that results will eventually be reflective? Or does three points from a possible twenty-one now mean more urgent change is required to arrest the slump, whether that be individually or tactically? The panel then go on to discuss their Christmas wish list in terms of potential squad bolstering before being joined by Andrew Miller from the ‘Bromley Breakdown' Pod to preview another ominous looking away trip next weekend.+++Hosted by Matt Dannatt with guests Steve Claybourn, Helen Walker and Andrew Miller. It's our party and we'll cry if we want to! To mark the 100th episode of VFTF, regular host Chris swaps places with panellist Adam and the latter wastes no time in garnering opinion on Town's 2-1 home defeat to Tranmere under the lights at BP last Thursday. Was Pym at fault for their opener? What's going wrong in defence? And has a rejuvenated Darragh Burns finally won his shirt back after a MOTM display? The guys then go on to discuss David Artell's second anniversary as Mariners boss and what progress the club have made on and off the pitch during his tenure before rounding off this centenary episode with a look ahead to the visit of National League side Wealdstone in the FA Cup 2nd Round next Saturday. Town had to come through two down to rescue a point at high flying Swindon on Saturday but by doing so they showed real resilience and the panel begin by discussing whether or not the positive reaction of the players in the first half could potentially be looked back upon as a pivotal moment in the season come May. The guys then go on to discuss our defensive injury concerns and the affect that could be having on an over reliance of key players, the reasoning behind the signing and subsequent performance of emergency loan keeper Richard O'Donnell and the underrated importance and impact of Darragh Burns on the dynamic of the side. Grimsby's game on Saturday had to pass a late pitch inspection due to the heavy rain but come the evening many Town fans were perhaps wishing it hadn't having seen their side run out 1-0 losers at home to play-off rivals Chesterfield. Increasingly I get asked this question a lot in my Guardian column. Not from a financial POV but the 'should I retire and what will life be like afterwards?' question. Welcome to episode 3 in this series. It's all about a word that has rather negative associations- retirement - but after listening to this hopefully you'll look at it differently.Once upon a time when we retired was dictated by our work place and/or pensions. Or people were so exhausted by their physically demanding jobs they were totally spent by the time they got to 55. But things have changed. The state pension age has shifted upwards in the UK and for more people it's now a choice. Work can define many of us, so what happens when work stops? Chris Mills, a regular conversationalist and guest in my Guardian column, casts a beautiful new light on what retirement might look like and why we might consider it. Lots to think about here even if you're nowhere near retirement age. I hope you enjoy it!Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/conversations-with-annalisa-barbieri. Hosted on Acast. Very early on in my career as The Guardian's Agony Aunt the letters started coming in about family estrangements - the "should I cut X out of my life" style questions. Back then, cutting a family member out was anathema to me but over the years, i came to understand why some people sought it out. The thing is, cutting someone out is rarely the end of the problem. Sometimes it's only the beginning. In this episode I talk to long-time conversationalist psychotherapist Chris Mills about why some situations become so bad that estrangement seems like the only answer - indeed is it the only answer? What it can mean and how to try to build bridges after an estrangement (maybe one not of your making) if that's what feels right. In this episode, Chris dives into his go-to-market strategy at Wrike, and discusses how they are leveraging AI internally to become more efficient. He also discusses how their marketing strategy allows them to go after different types of companies within a very large market.  Key Takeaways:Efficiency in Performance Marketing: There is no time wasted on optimizing marketing budgets to ensure each dollar spent yields a satisfactory ROI.ABM: Your ABM tactics are increasingly important for targeting enterprise clients. Start by focusing on refining your org's ICP and leveraging existing customer advocates to engage potential buyers effectively.Metrics and Measurement: It often comes down to data. Continuously monitoring key funnel metrics like lead quality, conversion rates, and cost per lead, to quickly identify and address issues and improve overall performance for your customers. Quote: “From a product perspective, we're looking at how do we leverage AI  to take, in some cases, a massive amount of data that sits in our system around work and tasks and projects and things that are happening and how to use AI to help people summarize a big thread of communication and collaboration that's happened over a period of time. And using AI to use natural language to create project plans rather than creating a project plan from scratch saying, hey, I have a project to do to launch this new product in this type of market. And here's what the product consists of. Build me a project plan and it can leverage data that exists both publicly for similar types of projects,  as well as within that customer's, set of historical projects. Like, how do you generate content that way, and then how do you use AI to predict risks on a project or how do you use AI to identify resources to staff on a project. So it's interesting: both our internal workers are using AI that's available to us to help us internally. And then we're also looking at our AI strategy from a product and innovation perspective and figuring out how do we make our system more powerful, more intelligent to automate some things, to help people, focus on more creative, human-centric work.” Episode Timestamps:*(12:47) - The Playbook: Chris' uncuttables*(35:51) - The Dust Up: Defining your ICP company-wide*(39:06) - Chirs' Quick Hits Sponsor:Pipeline Visionaries is brought to you by Qualified.com, the #1 Conversational Marketing platform for companies that use Salesforce and the secret weapon for pipeline pros.
