Should every sermon make a beeline to the cross? Pastor John traces the pattern of the New Testament from the death of Christ to the holiness of Christians.
What does it mean to boast in the cross?
Greg Bryan reveals seven principles of a Cross-Centered man in 1 Corinthians chapters 1 through 4.The culture of Corinth valued status, eloquence, and human wisdom—but Paul preached something radically different: Christ crucified. This episode examines how the gospel reshapes our understanding of success, strength, and spiritual leadership.
In this honest and weighty message kicking off the Sermon on the Mount, Pastor Karl walks through the Beatitudes—the nine “blessed are” statements that reveal the heart attitudes Jesus demands of every true disciple. From spiritual poverty and mourning over sin to meekness, insatiable hunger for righteousness, mercy, purity of heart, peacemaking, and even rejoicing in persecution, these aren't optional extras; they're the non-negotiable “be-attitudes” that must mark every citizen of God's kingdom. When these attitudes shape us, we naturally become the salt of the earth and the light of the world—distinct from culture, preserving what is decaying, and shining so brightly that others see our good works and glorify our Father in heaven. A convicting reminder that following Jesus was never meant to look like the world around us.Watch all our sermons on our youtube channel "Flipside Christian Church"Join us in person 9:00am & 10:30am every Sunday morning.37193 Ave 12 #3h, Madera, CA 93636For more visit us at flipside.churchFor more podcasts visit flipsidepodcasts.transistor.fm
SummaryIn this conversation, Dr. Jeffery D. Skinner discusses the essential elements of church planting, emphasizing the importance of gathering a core team and shaping a launch community. The Cross Centered Life - Matthew 16:21-28“The chief danger that confronts the coming century will be religion without the Holy Ghost, Christianity without Christ, forgiveness without repentance, salvation without regeneration, politics without God, heaven without hell.” - William Booth (1878-1912)In today's passage we will see Jesus rebuke Peter for ‘Satan-like' thinking, and clarify that before the Messiah rules the world from Jerusalem He first must die on the cross for the sins of the world. Jesus also makes clear that all believers also have a cross to bear before they go to Heaven.Matthew 16:21-28In the next chapters we will see Jesus make a “bee-line” for the cross. But first He needed His disciples to understand 2 things – Who He is, and what He is going to do in this ‘first coming.'Jesus emphatically declares His coming death and resurrection - V. 21All Israel was obsessed with the prophetic passages about the Messiah being the King who would rule righteously from Jerusalem. They had minimized passages about Him dying for sinners and being pierced.Jesus states verse 21 about 6 months before it happened. Now that they knew He was the Messiah, they needed to understand what that meant. This is the first of 5 times Jesus explicitly states His coming ‘passion.'“The Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.” - Matthew 20:28And I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and pleas for mercy, so that, when they look on Me, on Him whom they have pierced, they shall mourn for Him, as one mourns for an only child, and weep bitterly over him, as one weeps for a firstborn. - Zechariah 12:10Peter rebukes Jesus, which is never a good idea! - V. 22-23Like so many of us, Peter could not see anything good come from suffering and death, and he was going to do everything he could to keep Jesus from dying. In a way he was doing what Satan had done in chapter 4 – tempting Jesus to avoid the cross He was predestined to die on.Peter had just been congratulated for being a model witness to the truth of who Jesus is, but almost instantly had to be rebuked for putting what he wanted before God's will. Let this be a challenge to you: Don't rest on past laurels if you are presently out of God's will!Jesus emphatically declares that believers also have a cross - V. 24-27What does it mean to deny yourself? It means to say ‘no' to your agenda cancelling God's agenda for you. What does it mean to take up your cross? It means to say yes to God's Kingdom agenda aligning your agenda for you. What does it mean to follow Jesus? It means to live every area of your life with relational faith in Jesus.I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. - Galatians 2:20Christians embrace the “Cross-centered” life. They evaluate everything in light of God's word and will. They put what God wants for their life ahead of what they want for it. Ironically, they experience more peace, joy and purpose than those who constantly put themselves first. If you don't really love Jesus and the things of Jesus, Heaven would be Hell for you. Jesus is what makes Heaven Heaven, and if its not Him you want, you don't want to go to Heaven. If what you really love is the things related to sin, Hell is where you belong, with the Devil and his demons.“Until sin be bitter, Christ will not be sweet.” - Thomas Watson

Living Stones Church - Ali'i Drive - Our passion at Living Stones Church is to be the kind of church described in the Bible: A Culture of Faith. Together we love to actively pursue Spirit and Truth.
1 Corinthians 1:18-31For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written,"I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the discernment of the discerning I will thwart."Where is the one who is wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? For since, in the wisdom of God, the world did not know God through wisdom, it pleased God through the folly of what we preach to save those who believe. For Jews demand signs and Greeks seek wisdom, but we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and folly to Gentiles, but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. For the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.For consider your calling, brothers: not many of you were wise according to worldly standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth. But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, so that no human being might boast in the presence of God. And because of him you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption, so that, as it is written, "Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord."

Send us a textWhat are the essential elements of biblical preaching? How do you know you're preaching a Christian sermon and not simply giving a religious or spiritual lecture? While gospel-centered expository proclamation is the best approach to fulfilling the biblical call to preach, this episode could probably use more detail. Since preachers like alliteration and lists, I might suggest a checklist reflecting what I propose as the essential factors of faithful Christian preaching. Next time you prepare a sermon, maybe keep these questions in mind. Or, the next time you preach, share this list with your fellow elders or another team of trusted advisers and ask them to apply the questions to your delivered message.1. Is your sermon CONTEXTUAL?2. Is your sermon CONVICTIONAL?3. Is your sermon CLEAR?4. Is your sermon COMPASSIONATE?5. Is your sermon CROSS-CENTERED?Support the showSubscribe to this podcast. Leave us a review. Today, Michael Acock speaks in the tenth and final message of a 10-week series as we walk through the book of Philippians. Today we will wrap up the series. In Philippians, Paul is inviting us to: 1. Consider God's activities and purposes in creation and salvation. 2. Reflect on God's calling in our own lives. 3. Embrace a mindset that privileges others above ourselves. This letter, the book of Philippians, includes the themes of Christ as at once humble Lord and supreme paradigm of Christian life; of unity in Christ that overcomes the forces of dissension; of a readiness to suffer for the sake of the gospel that does not rob us of joy in Christ; of the radical difference between a righteousness of our own and a righteousness from God; and of a life of thanksgiving in mutual giving and receiving. We hope this message encourages you and helps you know Jesus in a more real way. You can find the full sermon notes and other resources at our website. There are a lot of ways to get Jesus wrong - Docetists, Gnostics, Ebionites, Dualists, Monophysits - to name a few. Getting Jesus right means starting with understanding his essential nature. 100% God and 100% human. This episode of Gospel Wabi Sabi explores why this makes a difference. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/jeff-ebert/support

Today we finish up the Free! series as we take a look at Galatians 6:5-18. The first observation is that verses 7-10 indicate a divine law. Pastor Dustin Clegg also points out the characteristics of Cross-Centered people: (1) Cross-Centered people are humble and not prideful.(2) Cross-Centered people treasure Jesus and not the world.(3) Cross-Centered people want genuine transformation, not shallow ritual.(4) Cross-Centered people want truth always and never error.(5) Cross-Centered people develop the scars of Jesus which lead to gentle and humble authority.
