Join me as we ponder the turning of the calendar to 2024, a time for introspection and goal-setting. But this year, we're taking a different approach, asking not just 'what' but 'who' is important in our lives. I discuss the profound shift from a task-driven to a people-centric perspective, exploring how this reorientation affects leadership, team management, and personal relationships. Leadership and virtual team performance: A meta-analytic investigation Join my weekly newsletter. Learn more about my books and courses. Join The Essentialism Academy. Join me as I explore the transformative power of building deep, meaningful connections in our lives, especially poignant in an age where superficial online interactions are often mistaken for genuine relationships. I reflect on Erik Newton's heartfelt Twitter story about the profound love he shared with his late wife, revealing the timeless truth that at life's end, it's the depth of our relationships that truly matters. This touching narrative serves as a profound reminder of the importance of fostering and nurturing our most significant relationships, and how they shape the legacy of love we leave behind. I also discuss the insights of early psychologists and the groundbreaking work of British psychiatrist John Bowlby, who pioneered the concept of attachment theory. The historical journey from the 18th century to Bowlby's 20th-century research, including the Strange Situation experiment and Harry Harlow's primate studies, illuminates the critical need for emotional connections in our development. This conversation underscores the essential nature of these bonds for our psychological well-being, urging us to prioritize and deepen our connections with those who are important to us. Join me on the journey to enrich your relationships, focusing on quality rather than quantity. In this episode I explore the significance of cultivating deep, meaningful relationships in a world dominated by superficial connections. Drawing on an analogy from the Hubble Space Telescope, I demonstrate how minor adjustments in perspective can bring clarity to our relationships, similar to how small calibrations on the telescope can bring the vastness of space into focus. In our quest for meaningful connections, I examine the contrasting approaches of essentialists and non-essentialists towards relationships. I observe how essentialists prioritize deeper relationships with fewer, but vital, people, while non-essentialists often get overwhelmed by their packed schedules. I introduce the concept of a 'relationship scorecard' to help you assess the quality and depth of your relationships, suggesting that you regularly touch base and make small adjustments to sustain healthy relationships. I conclude this episode with a reminder not to wait until your relationship is on the rocks to seek feedback and make necessary adjustments. Join my weekly newsletter. Have you ever stopped to consider the depth of your connections in a world where the number of friends you have on social media platforms seems to have taken precedence? Join me as we navigate the waters of meaningful relationships, stressing the importance of quality over quantity. Our journey takes us through the paradox of loneliness and time spent alone, and how these two aren't necessarily joined at the hip. Ever given thought to the role technology plays in shaping our social lives? It's a double-edged sword, on one hand allowing us to connect with friends and family across the globe, yet on the other, resulting in fewer face-to-face interactions and more superficial connections. The conversation segues into the pitfalls of online echo chambers, the effects of social media on our perception of relationships, and the impact of non-essentialism on our relationships. What up? You walking it like you talk it? Stepping up, loving God and better loving and serving others. 9/11 today and a humble reminder of another dark day and time. So what ever darkness or pit you are experiencing, question, did we move forward? Did good come out of bad? Depends on your perspective. I absolutely saw good come out of bad. If in doubt, check out the deeper series. For now, Rom 8:28 is your promise. God will make good out of bad...for those that seek Him. God is in the Hope business. If you are looking for encouragement and hope, you are here for a reason. Either to soak it up or share it. BTW, thank you so much for sharing this. Slowly but surely, we are another beacon seeking Truth - what works and doesn't in life. You are part of it.So, two things teed up for you. One, back to the Pastor Rick well and Daily Hope. Full message details will be at the end. Two, a secular source. Yes, we will go there sometimes. Hey, we invited Ozzy Osbourne to FriDudes. We are an open door. Adam Carolla Show. Here you go...Word! The wise will tune in, travel the horizontal by verifying it with the vertical. Think about it. That is how navigation works. You tell your phone app where you want to go, it lifts via Internet via GPS and talks to a satellite to track and guide you. Ha! From the beginning of time, that is how God works. You can try to find your way on your own and walk around aimlessly and lost. Or you can check your pride and lift it. Put in the request and ask for guidance. Your choice. If you dug the earlier podcast snippets. You can find more at PastorRick.com/listen. A Faith that Keeps me Hopeful - Part 1. Published on 9/9/20. As for the Adam Carolla Show, isn't it interesting how God will use secular sources and even atheists to make a point? Whether you realize it or not, you answer to God. Everyone does. King Nebekenezzar, Pharaoh, Ceasar, Kim Jong Un, Putin, Trump, Obama, Clinton. Yes, you too! If your pride is getting in the way of that. Check out the Deeper Series and King Nebekenezzr's pride and then humble pie history. Back to Adam Carolla, you can find that episode at the Adam Carolla Show, interview with Jay Shetty the former monk, Part 2, published on 9/9/20.You ready for more positive change and perspective? Create your own Dudes group. Subscribe at FriDudes.com for more insights, invites and notes of encouragement. Oh and check out GtSurf.org to start writing down and quality control check your life goals. Striving for your True Purpose.Ending on a song note, I've been waiting to pimp this one. Some of you are absolutely drowning in life. Drowning in social media, hate, news, your work or unemployment, alcohol, drugs, depression, anxiety, fill in the blank. God is in the hope and restoration business. We are here to build you up. Encourage you. Then you go out, reach out, share and encourage someone else. This is 'Drown' by Lecrae and featuring John Legend. Please listen to these lyrics. If you dig, please add it to your 'Encouragement' playlist. Now go, don't listen to the lies in your head, you matter, you have purpose, lift the negatives, give thanks for the positives, set yourself free and help someone do the same...
Welcome back to the Deeper Series! If you are new to the series, you can find three more Deeper episodes preceding this one. Debut episode was on August 18, 2020. Casey has some cool nuggets that I hope will blow your mind. You think the Bible isn't historical. Well, here you go history buffs...Word! Thank you Jogging Jesus...aka Casey. You down? Depressed? You are not alone. Please don't believe those lies in your head that you don't matter. You absolutely matter! Look how God rises up Daniel from the depths of despair. God uses tough times and bad people to help fertilize the ground for the good to sprout out. Rom 8:28. We complain about tough times yet we can't get stronger without resistance. Think about it. Start lifting your negatives to God and then start asking God how he plans to leverage you like God did Daniel.Ending on a song note, Casey sent some good ones. Cornerstone by Hillsong. My Hope is Built on Nothing Less by the Island Sing. Check those out. As for this one got a strong pull for an audible for any of your doubting. This is called 'Believe' by the Social Club Misfits. Really digging on those guys...the whole album. Check 'em out and please add them to your 'need a lift' list...now go, lift the negative, bet on hope, keep asking for the purpose, love, serve...
The lessons of grace may be basic, but it is the grace of God that many Christians have a problem believing throughout their life. For many, we never opened up to God our doubt about His grace. We need to uncover this and ask God to give us faith. God wants to change our lives. God wants our faith to grow under His grace, and the Holy Spirit will be our mentor. But when is grace not enough? It is written in 2 Corinthians 12: 9 “But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me."
"And if by grace, then it cannot be based on works; if it were, grace would no longer be grace." (Romans 11:6 NIV) So, what is grace? And what does it do? Hit play and let's find out as we explore not only its definition in the dictionary but also references from the Bible.
For it is by grace you have been saved through faith – and this is not from ourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works so that no one can boast (Ephesians 2: 8-9) Have you fallen out of God's grace or do you know someone who have fallen out of God's grace? Grace cannot be fully understood and appreciated apart from the Bible. More so, grace cannot be received without Christ. Let's get deeper into the concept, the experience, the revelation and the encounter of grace in our lives.
When we make God small, our anxieties and stresses often get bigger. But there is so much freedom in God's security. As Pastor Chad teaches in our Deeper Series, we learn that God has set us free from sin (Romans 6:22) and God absolutely delights in doing His best work when we are in weaknesses and trials.
Pastor Ernest speaks about the deeper life in Christ of helping the poor.
Michelle Brightman wraps up our Deeper Series.
