If inspection is the bottleneck in your shop, you're not alone—and this episode might just be your blueprint for breaking through it. We sat down with the team behind MAESTRO, the latest release from Hexagon's Manufacturing Intelligence division, to explore how a complete reinvention of the coordinate measuring machine (CMM) is shifting quality control from a necessary evil to a productivity enabler. MAESTRO isn't just faster or sleeker—it's smarter. Built from the ground up with the realities of today's shops in mind, it tackles challenges like workforce shortages, inconsistent programming skills, and disconnected systems. With Shawn Thelen and Jörg Deller from Hexagon joining us, we get into how this all-digital, automation-ready CMM uses no-code software, digital twins, and smart integration to become a seamless part of the production process. We loved hearing how Hexagon developed five key user personas to design MAESTRO for real people—not just ideal conditions. Whether you're a seasoned metrologist or a machine operator cross-trained on quality, this system aims to make measurement intuitive, reliable, and lightning-fast. And if you're on the road to lights-out manufacturing, the implications are huge. With real-time MES integration, remote diagnostics, and even the ability to support automatic offset corrections, MAESTRO isn't just measuring—it's making decisions. For shops serious about throughput, this episode shows how smart metrology can finally keep pace with the rest of your operation. In this episode Gary Mansfield speaks to Jeremy Deller (@jeremydeller) Jeremy Deller is a British conceptual artist renowned for his innovative and socially engaged practice. His work often explores history, politics, memory, and collective identity, blending art with performance, video, and community involvement.Deller's approach is notable for its inclusivity—he often collaborates with non-professional participants to produce work that challenges traditional notions of art and authorship. One of his most significant works is The Battle of Orgreave (2001), a reenactment of the violent 1984 miners' strike confrontation between police and striking miners. The project addressed themes of working-class struggle, historical memory, and the spectacle of violence, raising questions about how history is remembered and represented. This immersive approach to historical events would become a hallmark of Deller's practice. Other notable works include English Magic (2013), a politically charged series that critiques British national identity, capitalism, and inequality. Deller's work often critiques social and political structures while encouraging dialogue and participation. In 2004, he won the Turner Prize for his ability to redefine art's relationship to both the public and its cultural contexts. Deller's work continues to reflect his belief that art should engage with and speak to the world around it, often offering new ways of understanding the past, present, and future. Wisconsin agriculture remains a cornerstone of the state's economy, despite facing challenges in 2024. Dr. Steve Deller and Jeff Hadachek, economists with the University of Wisconsin, have released their latest study, The Contribution of Agriculture to the Wisconsin Economy, highlighting trends, challenges, and opportunities as the state moves toward 2025 Hadachek, in his first year with UW Extension, emphasized the significance of food processing. "Of the $116 billion Wisconsin agriculture contributes to the state economy, $107 billion comes from food processing" he noted. "From cheese makers to cranberry processors, much of the value happens off the farm." Food processing has grown substantially, increasing from $82 billion in 2017 to $107 billion today. "Labor productivity is rising, but fewer workers are spending money in local economies," said Deller.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
In this episode Gary Mansfield speaks to John Costi (@bapou_costi) This is John Costi's second appearance on the Ministry of Arts Podcast, the first being ep.48. He is known for his conceptual and often collaborative work, which explores themes of culture, identity, and history. In 2012, Costi had a notable experience traveling to Venice with artist Jeremy Deller. The trip was part of a project facilitated by the Koestler Trust, an organization that supports creative work by prisoners, ex-offenders, and young people at risk. Deller, a renowned artist known for his interest in social contexts, invited Costi to join him in Venice during the Venice Biennale, where they explored the intersections of art, prison reform, and personal narrative. This journey allowed Costi to engage in a broader dialogue about the transformative potential of art, especially for marginalized communities. The Venice trip exemplified Costi's approach to art-making—collaborative, reflective, and deeply attuned to the social and political dimensions of creative expression. John and Jeremy have co-curated Koestler Arts' annual exhibition at Southbanks, Royal festival Hall, ‘No Comment' runs until 15th December. Flo is back on the allotment for another season of Digging. In this first episode, she's joined by English contemporary artist Jeremy Deller. The Turner Prize winner often weaves music and pop culture into his art, which tends to be politically focused and collaborative in nature. In this episode of Digging, Deller and Flo attempt to bridge the gaps between Take That, William Morris and the lost magic of the jumble sale, whilst planting out strawberries to overwinter on the plot. We are super excited this week to talk about all things Surface Pattern with Australia's finest watercolour artist, surface pattern course creator and creative mentor. And if that's not enough Cass talks about the importance of getting quiet and allowing your unique creative style to come through you. This process she believes is a highly spiritual, creative flow state is only entered when we allow for the space. This of course doesn't just happen, there is lots of mess in between the day job before the pivot. We talk about the huge gap between being a student again and allowing yourself to learn and building the runway before you jump ship. You're going to love this talk (hashtag just saying) Cass Takeaways: 1. Look at what you absolutely love first, what makes you not look at your phone, what can you talk about all day? Follow that passion– the business will come after. 2. You don't have to jump ship, build your runway first. 3. The pivot is a huge change for you and your family, remember this when you're feeling all of the fear, it's all possible, but you have to respect it takes time. 4. Don't put all of the ownership to pay your bills with this new creative venture. Try to have an income stream that's low maintenance on your head space, to leave room for ‘the playfulness and curiosity energy of your new venture. 5. Look at evergreens you could launch for your business that's not a direct equal swap for your time and money. 6. Your work holds energy, and we can feel that even online. Play and design before you read your emails. 7. We are consuming so much information, be mindful about what distractions you have without noticing i.e. scrolling, the news. 8. Practice being by yourself we need to get quiet to listen 9. Following the breadcrumbs takes trust, listen to your inner knowing nobody knows 100% if it's going to work, but if you know and start your day armed with your ‘Why' you will naturally seek the right opportunities. 10. Get clear on what it is you want to change, meditate, journal, and shout it out into your mirror, you get to decide and change through manifesting, but being intentional takes daily reminders to yourself. Your inner knowing is spiritual which is creativity too but you need to get quiet to hear her and your intuition. 11. Your mindset controls EVERYTHING. You're the director of your whole life. 12. Being ‘too sensitive' is a superpower for your creativity. You will only birth your signature style if you're listening to what wants to come through you. We have all heard “Go and Make disciples.” It was God breathed right? But let's back up to the reason we were called to make disciples. Our salvation. Without it, we can't disciple to others. We are also called to be faithful in it all and draw near to the Lord. How do we do that? We fight the good fight, we pray, we read His word, and we love. To make disciples means to dig your heels into His will and His word, and be hearers and doers of the word. We were entrusted with this gift of discipleship. So, let's go!Hey friends, in today's episode we talk about how we can be intentional in our homes. We also talk about the depths of motherhood and how the Lord uses those seeds we sow daily to produce the sweetest fruit! The importance of knowing God's word & His power will play the ENTIRE role into how you do this well. I am so glad you are here, so grab a pen and paper, and let's dive in!
