Few people understand coffee like Mark. Today, we're joined by the iconic Mark Dundon, founder and co-owner of Seven Seeds Coffee Roasters. Since the early 2000s, Mark has been pushing the boundaries of specialty coffee. His ventures - including the legendary ST. ALi and Brother Baba Budan - have set the pace for cafes in Melbourne, establishing Mark as patriarch of the caffeine scene. In this episode, we discuss everything from fermentation processes to ferrari driving green buyers. Mark reflects on nearly 30 years in the industry, shares insight on the intersection of coffee and climate change, and reveals the lasting impact he hopes to make on the coffee world. In coffee news (a slow week): Sabrina Carpenter made a splash at London's Blank Street Coffee with a special collaboration event, even stepping behind the counter to take orders from fans. Meanwhile, in Panama, coffee farms face an unexpected threat… If you're new here (welcome), our show dives into some of the best coffee conversations on the internet, but we will always remind ourselves at the end of the day; It's Just Coffee! Where do the Hurricanes rank in terms of best run pro franchises? Or more importantly, how much have they climbed in the Dundon era? -consistency -attendance -engagement Similarly….The NC State Wolfpack just posted their first ever back to back top 20 Learfield Director’s Cup NHL Draft tonight in Nashville! -Conor Bedard going #1 overall to Blackhawks -Canes have the 30th pick…can we be like the Spurs or Patriots? Sebastian Aho was a second-round selection (2015), Brett Pesce a third-rounder (2013) and Jaccob Slavin a fourth-rounder (2012). Nikishin, 21, had 11 goals and 44 assists in 65 games with St. Petersburg in 2022-23, leading all KHL defensemen in assists and setting a league record for points in a season (55) by a Russian-born D-man. Imagine Nikishin, big-bodied at 6-4 and 216 pounds, on the Canes’ blue line. CONCACAF Gold Cup USMNT scratches out a draw with Jamaica 1-1 –fell behind 1-0, almost 2-0 on a penalty kick but Matt Turner made a save and then they got lucky –Brandon Vazquez with the equalizer in the 88th minute off a bad defensive play Six players made their debuts in official competition: Aidan Morris, Alan Soñora, and John Tolkin, and substitutes Cade Cowell, Jalen Neal and Brandon Vazquez. –they got some Usain Bolt looking dudes on their team…Jamaica looked like they should be good How the hell is Qatar in CONCACAF? -how does Haiti have a team? -we’re in a group with St. Kitts and Nevis and Trinidad and Tabago…but somehow that’s only two teams….next up St. Kitts and Nevis Wednesday night Jordan Staal signed to a 4-year deal that could? take him to the end of his career The Carolina Hurricanes signed captain Jordan Staal to a four-year contract worth $11.6 million, the team announced Sunday. The forward's new deal includes a no-movement clause for three seasons and a no-trade clause for the final season in 2026-27. Staal, 34, was set to become an unrestricted free agent Saturday. Dundon said (on this show I believe) that it was a certainty they would be keeping him -Now we need to go get another Staal Tony DeAngelo back? Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic reports that it is likely because of some hesitation from the NHL, over potential cap circumvention. DeAngelo was meant to go to Carolina with the Flyers retaining some salary, but since he was traded from the Hurricanes less than a year ago, it raised some red flags. As LeBrun explains, this isn’t exactly a regular situation. The Hurricanes traded him as an RFA, meaning they didn’t sign this contract, and Daniel Briere, the Flyers’ GM, wasn’t in place yet when Philadelphia inked this deal. There’s no real circumvention here, just a player that has worn out his welcome and a team looking to create cap space. The league is expected to meet with both teams in Nashville this week for the draft, where they will have to decide. Either sign off on it early, or force the teams to wait until July 9, when the calendar year since last summer’s trade would be up. Rockies won 7-4 on Friday and 4-3 yesterday….but lost 25-1 on Saturday

Welcome to the daily304 – your window into Wonderful, Almost Heaven, West Virginia. Today is Wednesday, March 8 Clay County's newly renovated rail to trail prepares to reopen…WV BusinessLink's program coordinator shares how the platform helps startups…and WV's 2023 elk herd is looking strong and healthy, wildlife officials say…on today's daily304. #1 – From CLAY COUNTY FREE PRESS – There have been many stories already written on the rail to trail that stretches from Dundon to just above Adair; it is a wonderful way to get out and explore Clay County by jitney or rail bike. But heavy rains and flooding eventually took their toll and the BC&G rail excursion had to shut down operations in the last couple of years due to much needed track maintenance. FEMA stepped in, and a crew came in and reworked the failing track, rebuilt the trusses, replaced thousands of cross ties and made the line a new trail that the county can be proud of. The trail is now extended to a 28 mile round trip excursion through a time when only story keepers and moldy books can remember what was there. The renovated track will become part of the state park system later on this year. Proposals are now coming in from different companies that will operate the rail line, so stay tuned! Read more: https://claycountyfreepress.com/news/cc-top-stories/newly-renovated-rail-trail-to-open-soon/ #2 – From POSITIVELY WV – Podcast host Jim Matuga sits down with Mark Burdette, program coordinator at West Virginia BusinessLink. West Virginia BusinessLink, based out of Charleston, is a supportive platform that connects entrepreneurs and small business owners to a network of local, regional, and statewide resource partners to foster innovation, growth, and prosperity. “You have to learn to adapt,” Burdette said. “If you don't learn how to do that, you're well on your way to being either out of business or you've got your competition nipping at your heels because they're catching up fast. Learn more about how West Virginia BusinessLink helps people start and grow their businesses. Listen to the podcast: https://positivelywv.com/wv-businesslink-empowering-entrepreneurs-to-realize-their-dreams/ #3 – From METRO NEWS – As West Virginia's elk herd slowly grows, the number of animals will eventually eclipse what the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources can accurately keep tabs on. In fact, there's evidence that may already be happening. “Actually we've handled two different young bulls apparently we missed back about 2019 or so,” Elk Project Leader Randy Kelley said. Each year the DNR works up as many of the elk as they can on the Tomblin Wildlife Management Area to keep close tabs on them during the year. The analysis can help determine if the elk are from West Virginia or elsewhere. Neighboring Virginia has a growing herd of elk as well, but so far, those haven't been as prevalent in West Virginia as the Kentucky herd. Eventually, the three states expect to establish what the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation has previously called the Appalachian Elk Herd. The goal is to have them ranging someday through all three states. Along with the DNA work being done in partnership with WVU, Kelley said they are also starting to get new technology which is helping with the management like tests which can determine if cows are pregnant at the time they work with them and testing for some dreaded diseases like brain worm. Frank Seravalli sat down with Carolina Hurricanes majority owner Tom Dundon for an exclusive interview about hosting a Stadium Series game in Raleigh, the team's mindset heading into the deadline, and how life's been as the owner of an NHL team. The Stadium Series was a major success for the Hurricanes both on and off the ice. Frank got Tom's opinion on how the fan base has grown and what's allowed that growth to take place. They also talked about how the team might handle the upcoming trade deadline. The Canes are one of the top teams in the East but haven't traditionally been aggressive at the deadline. Could that change this time around? Dundon seems to think so. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
