Today's word of the day is ‘chaos' as in out of control as in the Minnesota Timberwolves are in a bad place and only Alex Rodriguez can save them. Team president Gersson Rosas was fired 4 days before media day. Less than a month before the season starts. Why now? Work culture, ineptitude, office scandals… oh boy. (13:40) MLB and MLBPA are going to fight again. A lot sooner than everyone thought they would, especially me. How are grievances filed and why is this one a big one? (18:30) Minor League players for the Phillies and Mets wore wrist bands. Each wrist band had “fair ball” on them — what was this about? What did Dave Dombrowski have to say? (28:45) Review: Pig. (33:50) Golden State Warriors issues are mounting as the season approaches. Andrew Wiggins doesn't want to get vaccinate. Cool, his problem. Wait! Wiggins can't play if he's not vaccinated per San Francisco mandates. Uh oh. Owner Joe Jacob was fined $50K for his comments on Ben Simmons for tampering. Big money… not. (39:40) Kevin Kiermaier was plunked in the numbers after Card-Gate against the Blue Jays. (43:55) NPPOD: Texans/Panthers and Reds/Nationals.  Learn more about your ad choices. The government is moving to increase the use of saliva testing as it implements mandatory weekly surveillance testing of three thousand essential workers crossing through Auckland's border. But we been too slow to adopt the technology? Saliva based tests are in used widely in many parts of the world, and have a number of advantages over current nasal swabs- they're less invasive, quicker and cheaper. But it has only been in the last month that border and MIQ workers have been given the choice of a saliva test rather than a nasal swab. According to the Ministry of Health website, 815 border workers have opted for regular saliva testing, and the trial will be reviewed mid this month. New Zealander, Dr Anne Wyllie, is a Research Scientist in Epidemiology at the Yale School of Public Health, whose team pioneered the SalivaDirect test, which was given the green light in the US last year.

The Taliban is moving quickly to crush any opposition as the race to escape Afghanistan intensifies. The Pentagon is ramping up Kabul evacuation efforts as many struggle to reach the airport amid chaos and Taliban crackdown. The State Department says that 6,000 people at the Kabul airport are awaiting planes. 20 evacuation flights are expected to leave Afghanistan tonight. The Taliban is cracking down on protests and Afghans trying to leave the country. Armed jets are flying over Kabul to ensure people's security, according to the Pentagon.  The State Department says "We take very seriously" reports of people being blocked by the Taliban from getting to the airport.  The White House is struggling to contain the fallout from President Joe Biden's defiant denial of mistakes in the Afghanistan exit. U.S. diplomats warned, last month, of a potential catastrophe in Afghanistan to happen and a need for quick evacuations, according to CNN. Biden says that there was "no consensus" that the Taliban would take over quickly, while he spoke about intel.  After a bomb threat at Capitol Hill, a source says that the bomb threat suspect didn't have a viable explosive, but did possess suspected bomb making material.  To learn more about how CNN protects listener privacy, visit cnn.com/privacy

Ramping Up Organization in Your Life | EP 28

This is my second recording of Episode 28. I posted the first version and realized 24 hours later that I'd forgotten to make my point. During the first recording, I was so committed to sharing the details of my favorite organizational program, called Trello, that I failed to explain why it's important to give some attention to how we organize our lives.   Access to additional and diverse resources have made creative entertainment industries like fashion, modeling, and the performing arts more democratized. There are new opportunities to chart new courses. As a result, the individual is more empowered than ever before. Creatives of all ages and backgrounds have greater options for forging the life of their dreams. Yet the democratizing of creative industries … the new opportunities and greater options … have brought about massive changes in the work-life model. And for people encountering these changes, now's a good time to ramp up their life management organization.  Test new organizational programs that will help you accomplish this. I do love Trello. My Trello boards were primarily all I TALKed about on the first posted version of this podcast episode. Organization (on any level and in any area) boosts productivity, reduces stress, provides clarity of thought, and increases your peace of mind. Even when just a small part of your life is organized, you get all the benefits. With the way the world is operating now – nonstop distraction – it's critical that we use our mental bandwidth intentionally. Remain deliberate. Direct your life where you want it to go. TAP IN to Your Full Potential Thanks for listening.  @k.sounds.audio @anindo13 @adaawemusic @LaurieTALKS

COVID-19 cases are falling in the U.S. because 245 million doses of one of the available COVID-19 vaccines have been administered, according to Dr. Gregory Poland, an infectious diseases expert and head of Mayo Clinic's Vaccine Research Group. "But at the same time, there are still people who need more information about the safety and the value of getting a COVID-19 vaccine," says Dr. Poland. While still hopeful, Dr. Poland says he's concerned herd immunity won't be reached in the U.S. through vaccination. And that will mean more tragic deaths due to COVID-19 infection. "My guess is, because we're such an interconnected global community until everybody's safe, none of us are safe. And we're going to likely see continued circulation of the virus, and that virus will seek out whoever is not immune," says Dr. Poland. In this Mayo Clinic Q&A podcast, Dr. Poland also addresses when we will need COVID-19 vaccine boosters will be needed and the latest on masking guidelines from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention. Plus, he will provide an update on COVID-19 treatments and how to handle those who want to visit a newborn baby.

Laker Film Room - Dedicated to the Study of Lakers Basketball

With LeBron James' return getting closer by the day, the prospect of the Lakers getting back to full strength is becoming more a reality. Pete, Darius, and Mike break down how his return can help reorient this team from a mental approach and preparedness perspective, particularly on defense when playing with both AD and Drummond. Later, the team discusses potential playoff matchups and how the prospect of AD playing more center in those matchups than he has during the regular season can better position the team for success, even if it means displacing talented players like Drummond, Harrell, and Gasol in the process.
